    (2021·江苏苏州·苏州市苏州高新区第一中学校考二模)
In the film Forrest Gump, there’s a famous saying: “Life is like a box of chocolate; you never know what you’re gonna get.” It’s the same with blind boxes.
Each of these small, sealed (密封的) boxes contains one of many toys in a series. The buyer doesn’t know which one they’ve gotten until they open the package. In recent years it becomes big business in China.
During the Double 11 shopping day, Pop Mart, a leading blind box company in China, sold 55,000 Labubu dolls on Tmall in just 9 seconds, according to a Tmall report.
One reason for their popularity is the appealing (诱人的) appearance inside the boxes. They’re like small cartoon characters. They can be placed anywhere in your home as a decoration. But another, perhaps more important reason people like them is the fun of being surprised.
“The most interesting thing about blind boxes is the gap between what you expect and what you get,” said wen Xi, a blind box collector from Beijing.
Last year, over 200,000 Chinese customers spent more than 20,000 yuan collecting blind boxes. Most of them were Generation Z, or those born after 1995, according to a report by Tmall.
1.What can you get from a blind box?
A.The toy printed on the box. B.A cartoon character you choose.
C.One of the toys in a series. D.A decoration just for your house.

B.People enjoy the surprise before opening the box.
C.Blind box collectors has made a great influence.
D.These boxes are really a good choice as presents.

(2021·江苏苏州·苏州市苏州高新区第一中学校考二模)Studying at a girls’ school, we seldom see boys. But in September, we got a chance to dance and talk with boys.
In the morning, all of the girls discussed this activity. But when the boys came, we stopped at once. After a welcome speech, the first activity took place: find a boy partner and learn five things about each other.
At first, the situation was so strange that nobody moved. Gradually, some people started talking.
“Would you like to be my partner?” the boy next to me said.
    “Sure,” I replied.
We stood together and asked each other questions like “What’s your name?” after we took the first step, the rest was easier.
To my surprise, we had a lot of interests in common. We both like British singer Ed Sheeran. Also, English is our favorite subject.
The most exciting part was dancing. The teacher taught boys and girls separately (分别地), we all smiled and studied hard. The lesson didn’t last long, as we had to practice with our partners.
To be honest, it was my first time to hold a boy’s hands. I made many mistakes even with the simplest steps, but my partner never blamed me.
My hands got sweaty (出汗), my partner said, “Don’t be nervous. I will lead you.” his palms were big and warm, I began to calm down and enjoy dancing.
At the dance, we built good relationships with the boys and our teachers encouraged to do so. I really like this type of activity.

(2021·江苏苏州·苏州市苏州高新区第一中学校考二模)For the past 50 years, spanking has been used to punish children less and less. But what about yelling (喊叫)? Almost everyone still yells at children from time to time, even those parents who know it’s useless. Shouting is probably the most unwise behavior of parenting today.
In people who often yell, their children often feel stressed. A published in the Journal of Child Development showed that yelling at children has results similar to body punishment. Yelling will only make your child feel that you are out of control. It makes you look weak.
But most parents, myself included, find it really hard to spend the day without yelling. The latest research on shouting asks parents two questions: What should I do? How can I give up this habit?
Don’t yell at him every night just because the child throws his shoes around, but ask him in the morning if he can leave the shoes in place when he goes home. Make sure you go home and put your shoes away. If your child puts his shoes in place, even if they can put them near where they should be put, tell him that this is good, then hug him.
ABC Praise is a very effective way. You must be happy, so you must put a silly smile on your face and even raise your hand to wave. Next you have to say what you praise with a very happy and pleasant voice. The third step is to touch the child and give him some words of praise. It makes children notice the praise that comes with correct behavior. That’s the point.
If children behave better, then we won’t yell. If we don’t yell, children will behave better. Let your child do what you want and don’t do what you don’t want through the day. Praise is effective. And punishment is not.
6.What may happen if parents often shout at their children?
A.They will be more stressed. B.They will be better at study.
C.They will behave better. D.They will get more praise.
7.Which of the following is a suitable way to correct children’s behavior?
A.Forbid children having dinner when they come home with a B on the paper.
B.Tell children to turn off the light while leaving a room in a gentle voice.
C.Punish children seriously only once if they forget to tidy up their toys.
D.Always shout at children when they don’t clean the mud from shoes.
8.What is the best title for the passage?
    A.Yelling Lead to Higher Depression.
B.Stop Yelling and Try ABC Praise more.
    C.Good Behavior Comes with praise.
D.The More Yelling, the more Progress.

At the age of 18, Zhengyi began to focus on her study and taught herself with the two subjects.

(2021·江苏苏州·苏州市景范中学校校考二模)Very often, when we see young people sitting there, looking at the screen of a mobile phone and smiling, we may think nothing is wrong. But when we come to the question “how much time do they actually spend on media (传播媒介)daily?”, the answer is surprising: young people spend about nine hours every day using media, and this only includes media used for enjoyment.
Today’s young people seem to have become crazy multitaskers. They often use media when doing other activities. Some watch TV when doing homework, some text (发短信), and some others listen to music. But what do young people think of this? A research showed that two thirds of them believed watching TV or texting had no influence on their schoolwork. Half of them thought using social media made no difference. However, researches have given a different answer: “media multitaskers” did worse in tests.
Scientists did a research among more than 400 students. It shows that those who text a lot have more trouble sleeping and do worse in their study. In another research, students who didn’t text during a lesson took down a lot more notes than those who were texting. A similar research also found that students who texted when doing schoolwork had lower overall (总体的)grades.
According to a research, if a kid uses social media a lot, especially at night, he or she will sleep worse and feel more nervous and depressed (消沉的). On the one hand, young people stay up late to check messages and information. They may also be woken up by messages they receive. On the other hand, even the light from a screen could influence their sleep. Some other researches also show that children who use media at night go to bed later, get fewer hours of sleep each week, and become sleepy more easily during the daytime.
18.The answer to the question in Paragraph l is surprising because young people ________.

20.From the passage we can learn that a kid will probably ________ if he or she uses social media a lot at night.
A.become more worried B.get more excited C.take fewer notes in class D.sleep much better

It is said that Chinese tea was discovered by King Shen Nong. People say that he lived 5,000 years ago. One summer day, while he was visiting a faraway part of his country, he felt very thirsty. The servants began to make water hot enough to turn into gas for him to drink. Dried leaves from a near plant fell into the water. The king drank some, and found it could make him feel less tired. Also as a scientist, Shen Nong was interested in the new drink. And so, tea was created in 2737 BC.

(2021·江苏苏州·校考二模)Sometimes our body does things we don't ask it to do. Sneezing(打喷嚏),coughing, blinking(眨眼睛)and even yawning(打哈欠)are examples of involuntary movements or reflex actions(反射动作). What makes our body do these things?
These involuntary actions are a response(反应)to a stimulus(刺激). When we do these things, our body is trying to protect itself. If an irritant(刺激物)such as pollen(花粉)from plants gets into our nose or nasal passages(鼻腔通道),our body sneezes to get it out. If we breathe in dust, our body coughs to remove it from our lungs(肺)or windpipe. We blink in order to keep our eyes clean and moist(湿润)and to prevent dust and other things from staying on them. A yawn is our body's way of making us put more oxygen into our bloodstream.
. These involuntary movements happen because our brain is giving out signals. There is a system of nerves(神经)called the central nervous system, that covers our entire body: from the brain, down the spinal cord(脊髓)inside our spinal column (the bones that do down our back,to the tips of our fingers and toes. When our body parts sense certain things, like a mosquito蚊子)bite, a message is sent to our brain. Then the brain sends a message back to itch(发痒).
Without these reflex actions, we would not live very long.
34.What is the passage mainly about?
A.We would not live long without movements. B.Why our body does involuntary movements.
C.We sneeze to get out an irritant such as pollen. D.How our brain is giving out signals to our nerves.
35.If dust comes into our eyes, we will________ to protect our body.
    A.cough B.sneeze C.blink D.yawn
36.Which of the following sentences can be put at the beginning of Paragraph 3?
A.What tells our body to take care of us the way it does?
B.Don't you think it is interesting for our body to do so?
C.What can we do when involuntary movements happen?
D.How can we avoid stimulus to protect our own body?

(2021·江苏苏州·苏州市振华中学校校考二模)When Charles Dickens was a small boy, he was sent by his parents to work in a boot-blacking factory. His parents had other children and many debts(债务)to pay. Charles’s father was put into prison for his debts. The boy tried to raise enough money to get him out but was unsuccessful. At last, the whole family went to live with Charles’s father in his room in the Marsalsea prison. This was a common practice and, while the prisoner could not leave the grounds, the families could go in and out freely until the gate was locked at night. Almost every book he wrote has a prison and some prisoners in it.
He had been born in 1812 and had stayed busy at one kind of work or another from the time he was six years of age. He died of a sudden stroke in 1870. (2021·江苏苏州·苏州市振华中学校校考二模)Many people know that rubbish is a big problem on the planet Earth. What many people don’t know is that junk(垃圾)has become a problem in outer space too.
According to BBC News, there are more than 22, 000 pieces of space junk floating around the earth. And these are just the things that we can see from the surface of the earth by telescopes (望远镜). There are also millions of smaller pieces of junk that we can’t see.
Objects, like bits of old space rockets(火箭)or satellites(卫星), move around the planet at very high speed so fast that even a very small piece can break important satellites or become dangerous to astronauts. If the tiniest piece of junk crashed into a spaceship, it could damage (损害)the space tool.
To make things worse, when two objects in space crash, they break into many smaller pieces. For example, when a U.S. satellite hit an old Russian rocket in 2009, it broke into more than 2,000 pieces, increasing the amount of space junk.
To reduce additional (额外的)space junk, countries have agreed that all new space tools can only stay in space for 25 years at most. Each tool must be built to fall safely into the earth’s atmosphere (大气层)after that time. In the upper parts of the atmosphere, it will burn up.
Many scientists also suggest different ways to clean up space junk. In England, scientists are testing a special net that can be sent into space junk. The net catches the junk and then pulls it into the earth's atmosphere to burn up. The Germans are building robots that can collect pieces of space junk and bring them back to Earth to be safely dealt with.
“The problem is becoming more challenging because we’re sending more objects into space to help people use their mobile phones and computers,” says Marco Castronuovo, an Italian space researcher.
“The time to act is now. The longer we leave the problem, the bigger it will become,” he says.
46.The underlined word “these” in Paragraph 2 refers to ________.
    A.telescopes B.problems
C.pieces of space junk D.BBC news reports
47.The space junk is considered a problem because ________.
A.it burns up after it re-enters the atmosphere
B.it often stops the view of telescopes on Earth
C.it could force new space tools to travel at lower speed
D.it may crash into other space tools causing damage or death
48.We can infer from the passage that ________.
A.a safe space tool can stay in space for ever
B.rubbish as well as space junk used to be a big problem
C.scientists have no trouble solving the problem of space junk
D.more efforts require to be made to keep outer space safe and clean

(2021·江苏苏州·校考二模)Two years ago, I went to Taiwan, along with my family. Taiwan, China’s biggest island, lies in southeastern China. It’s separated from the Chinese mainland by the Taiwan Strait.
On the trip, we visited the beautiful Sun Moon Lake. ① Standing in a cable car (缆车), I looked down at the amazing views below. It looked as if it had been made by a great master. ② The clear water and beautiful forests made me feel as if I were in heaven (天堂). ③ Many famous works were on show there. When I was walking along the hall, the unpleasant history of our country passed through my mind. ④As the Chinese saying goes: “Falling behind will suffer (遭受) beating.” I realized the great importance of self-improvement.
Taiwan is rich in nature. There are not only lovely animals, but also delicious fruits, such as pineapples, wax apples, and many more. I ate much fruit every day during my stay there.
As for the local people, they were very friendly. Take my personal experience as a real example: I bought a T-shirt as a gift for my father without telling him. But the size wasn’t suitable. I didn’t know what to do. I called the mall hopelessly. To my surprise, the salesman listened to me patiently and told me that he could help me to change the size and send it back to our hotel as long as I could return the other one to him. His warm voice is still in my mind.
