My name is Chelsea Chowderhead.A chowder is a kind of soup.I was laughed at because of my last name as soon as I started school. So when my family moved to South Carolina,I asked my dad if I could change my name.
“You shouldn’t change who you are.Let people get to know you first and your name later. When you meet someone new,ask them a good question, something you’re really interested in.Once people start talking about themselves, they don’t judge(评价) you.”
Two days later I headed to my new school for the first day of class. At lunch,I noticed that there were twin brothers who were talking to each other.I remembered my dad’s advice,so I decided to try.
I noticed that their lunch boxes were identical.“What’s it like being a twin?” I asked.
They looked surprised. Then one said,“No one has ever asked us that!”
“Most of the time it’s good,” the other said.“When you’re a twin you always have someone to talk to and have lunch with.”
In no time we were laughing and talking. Then one of the brothers said,“I’m Nicholas, and this is my brother,Nathaniel. What’s your name?”
I took a deep breath and said,“I’m Chelsea Chowderhead.”
“Chowder? Like the soup?” asked Nathaniel.
“Yes,” I replied,looking down.
“Hey,cool!Do you want to come over after school and play basketball with us?” Nathaniel asked.I nodded.
And that is how I became friends with the twin brothers.

Some educators told us that more years of school could help students get higher scores on intelligence tests. That was a finding of a study of teenage males in some countries. Now,another research shows that physical activity may help students do better in their classes.
The research comes as educators in some countries are reducing time for activities like physical education. They are using the time instead for academic(学术的) subjects like math and reading. The studies appeared between 2008 and 2014.They included more than 55,000 children, aged 6 to 18.
Amika Singh:“According to the results of our study,we can conclude that being physically active is beneficial to academic performance. There are, first, physiological explanations, like more blood flow, and so more oxygen to the brain.Being physically active means there are more hormones(荷尔蒙) produced like endorphins(内啡肽).And endorphins make your stress level lower and your mood improved, which means you also perform better.”
Also, students taking part in organized sports learn rules and how to follow them. This could improve their classroom behavior and help them keep their mind on their work.
The study leaves some questions unanswered, however.Ms Stash says it is not possible to say whether the amount or kind of activity affected the level of academic improvement. This is because of differences among the studies.
The researchers said they found only two highquality studies. They needed more highquality studies to confirm(证实) their findings. They also pointed out that “results for other parts of the world may be quite different”.
Still, the general finding was that physically active kids are more likely to do better in school.Ms Singh says schools should consider that finding before they cut physical education programs. Her paper on “Physical Activity and Performance at School” is published in the Archives of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine.

If you go into the forest with friends, stay with them always. If you don’t,you may get lost.If you really get lost, this is what you should do.Sit down and stay where you are.Don’t try to find your friends—let them find you by staying in one place.
There is another way to help your friends or other nearby people to find you.Give them a signal by shouting or whistling(吹口哨) three times.Stop.Then shout or whistle three times.Any signal given three times is a call for help.
Keep up the shouting or whistling always three times together. When people hear you, they will know that you are not just making noise for fun. They will let you know that they have heard your signal. They will give you two shouts or two whistles or two gunshots. When someone gives a signal,it is an answer to a call for help.
If you don’t think that you will get help before night comes, try to make a little house—cover up the holes with branches(树枝) with lots of leaves.Make yourself a soft bed with leaves and grass.
What should you do if you get hungry or need drinking water? You will have to leave your little branch house to look for a river.Don’t just walk away.Pick off small branches and drop them as you walk so that you can find your way back.

Saturday Sep.7,2019 Sunny
Now,my high school life has been on for a week.High school life gave me the feeling that there was very much free time. Many need ourselves to make use of the free time to arrange them.
Firstly,I make a plan every day,and follow it strictly. Before going to bed at night,I will check whether I have finished it.If not,I’ll give myself a little punishment, such as playing less computer games on the weekend.Secondly,I’ll prepare the second day course after finishing my homework.
In a word,I will often summarize my learning to find problems a period later. And if I do it well,I will reward myself.
I think I will adapt myself to the high school life as soon as possible.

阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
A friend of mine whose name was John Smith had a bad memory, which made him famous. He was so forgetful that he sometimes forgot what he was talking about in the middle of a sentence. His wife had to constantly remind him about his meetings, his classes—even his meals!Once he forgot he had eaten breakfast twice,at home and at school. His wife liked to remind her neighbors,“If John didn’t have his head tied on,he would forget that too!” Since Smith was a professor at a wellknown university, his forgetfulness was often an embarrassment to him.It wasn’t that he was not clever,as some critical people tended to say,but just very very absentminded.
One hot summer day, professor Smith decided to take his children to a seaside town about a threehour train ride away.To make the trip more interesting for his young children,he kept the name of the town a secret. However,by the time they arrived at the station,Smith forgot the name of the town he was planning to visit.Luckily,a friend of his happened to be in the station. He offered to take care of the children while Smith hurried back home to find out where he was going.
The professor’s wife was surprised to see him again so soon.
“Oh,my dear,I forget the name of the town.”
“What? You forget the name? Maybe one day you will forget my name! Now I’ll write the name of that town on a piece of paper, and you put it in your pocket and please, please don’t forget where you put it.”
Satisfied that she had solved the problem, she sent her husband off again.Ten minutes later she was astonished to see him outside the house for the third time.

Paragraph 1:
“What is the matter now?” asked his wife.
Paragraph 2:
Hearing the cry,out rushed their neighbors, trying to find out what had happened.
参考范文
“What is the matter now?” asked his wife.“I just can’t remember why I come back and where I am supposed to be going on such a hot summer day,”replied the professor. However, the real reason was that he forgot where he had left his children.Sensing something wrong,Mrs Smith didn’t believe his words, because whenever he told a lie,he would usually blink his eyes quickly.“Tell me the truth,” ordered his wife.“As you told me,I didn’t forget where I put the name of that town, but I forget the station where I left our children!” whispered the professor, his voice trembling.“What a bad memory!” shouted his wife.
Hearing the cry,out rushed their neighbors, trying to find out what had happened.A fight between the couple was about to start when the professor’s cell phone began to ring. His friend, whose patience had worn thin, phoned to complain. The professor apologized, got into his car and drove away, leaving behind a bunch of people outside the house.Being afraid that he would make matters worse again,Mrs Smith decided to follow him,who then called a taxi.By the time she caught up with her husband, their children had been already back home safe and sound.
