When I turned twelve,I worked in summer at my father's small brick cleaning business.I remember the harsh acid smell of the cleaning solution, the dim bulb light reflecting the busy figures and the scraping sound of stiff iron brushes against rough brick. It was tempting to have your job just finished. But anybody who worked for Thomas Kahoon had to meet his standards, and that included me.If I messed up,he made me stay late until I got it right. My father wasn't being mean.He demanded the exact same of himself.Every brick he cleaned on the house stood out like a red jewel in a white setting. It was his signature.
In 1970,when I was twenty,I was to get married.I moved out of my parent's modest place into a housing project.Drugs and gang violence were just beginning to damage the projects. Some of my friends went to jail. Some were killed. My wife Verllen, was 18,and nobody gave our marriage a chance. But we believed in each other. And our faith made us strong.

Face book has published its mind-reading wrist device and an augmented reality (增强现实) keyboard with future hardware products. The company's Facebook Reality Labs division showed off the technologies on a virtual call with members of the media.Executives from the division talked about the technologies while videos of the projects were played for audience.
The wrist device is capable of reading neurological (神经系统的) signals sent from aw's brain down to his or her hand.It could read these signals to get a sense of what a user wants to do and copy the action in a virtual or augmented reality environment. "You actually have more of your brain dedicated to controlling your wrist than any other part of your body." said TR Reardon, director of research science at Facebook Reality Labs.
The Facebook researchers demonstrated "force" actions where a user could use his or her fingers in real life to hold and control virtual,far-away objects in augmented reality. The name of the action is a reference to Star Wars where certain characters can use "force" to control and move people or objects that are far away from them.
Additionally, the company demonstrated electromyography wristbands (机电腕带) that users could wear to type on any surface as though they were typing on a physical keyboard.Although there is no keyboard, the wristbands would register the intention of a user's finger stroke (挥笔动作) and note down the letters and words. .
Facebook's development of these technologies comes as the company prepares to release its first smart glasses this year. That device will be Ray-Ban glasses.Unlike smartphones, which rely on touchscreens, there is no current obvious input mechanism for smart glasses.

My heart pounded as I stared at the screen.I re-read the message from my friend,Noelle.Someone had upset her by sharing her personal news,a recent development Noelle had shared with only a few close friends, including me.She didn't know who let the word out,but she was hurt and disappointed.
I felt so guilty.I knew how the news had got out because I had been the one to tell someone else.Honestly,I hadn't realized she meant to keep it so close to home, but at the same time I'd known it wasn't a good idea when I started to tell it to someone else.
Did she really not know it was me?It would have been easy to come clean and apologize if her note was an accusation. But it read as though it had been copied and pasted to several people. So I chose the coward's way out.
"I'm so sorry that happened to you," I typed. "How awful that your confidence was broken."
I hoped that would do.Her reply came back within seconds: "Thank you."
Surely, that would be good enough.I didn't take responsibility for my actions, but I'd sympathized with her pain.It would be okay for me to remain anonymous (不公开姓名的) as long as I was sorry, wouldn't it?
But,deep down,I knew I'd been the one to break faith and hurt her.I was ashamed, not only of my original action, but because I'd put wrong upon wrong by covering it up.
I felt miserable at church on Sunday.I tried to avoid communication.Watching others take part while I sat in silence was a painful experience-one I never wanted to repeat.
Later, the speaker in the church challenged us to examine ourselves and see if anything stood in the way to being the best of ourselves, and if so,we should not to let it stop us and we needed to clear it away.
