You must heard of Three Gorges Dam (三峡大坝) of China. However, have you heard about the Aswan Dam of Egypt?

What else can you associate (联想) the pictures with?

What do you think the text is about?

The Egyptian government wanted to build a new dam across the Nile but the proposal led to protests.

2. Why did the Egyptian government want to attempt the building of the dam?

They wanted to control floods and bring electricity and water to more farmers in the area to help economic development.

Water from the dam would likely damage a number of temples and destroy cultural relics. They protest for the reason of the protection of cultural sites.
