Most people can’t live to 100. Those who do live so long can hardly walk, let alone take part in any activities. A few people, however, take part in dangerous activities even though they are more than 100 years old — they keep going and going! There is a great grandmother who likes challenging herself although she is 101 years old this year.
Mary Hardison believes that people should always be cheerful and more importantly, take on all kinds of adventures while they physically still can. So, instead of celebrating her 101st birthday with a boring party, she decided to go paragliding(滑翔跳伞)— an idea she got from her 75-year-old son who recently took it up as a hobby.
So on her birthday, cheered on by her big family, she tied herself up together with expert instructor Kevin Hintze, and jumped down fearlessly from the sky near her home in Ogden, Utah. And, it was not just a simple jump either. According to Kevin Hintze, the grandmother encouraged him to turn around, as they made their way down.
This is not the first time that Mary has done something “wild” and “crazy”. For her 90th birthday she rode all the adult rides at Disneyland. And, she is not done yet — for her 102nd birthday she hopes to go down the 3,000 feet Alpine Slide at Utah’s Park City Mountain Resort!
Not surprisingly, this great action has made Mary Hardison very famous and also earned her a place in the Guinness World Records where she broke a 2007 record set by a 100-year-old British woman. What an amazing lady!

    24. What do we know about Mary Hardison?
    A. She took up paragliding as her hobby at 75.
    B. She is the oldest woman in the Guinness Records.
    C. She was recorded in the Guinness World in 2007.
    D. She likes challenging herself regradless of age.
    25. From whom did Mary get the idea of going paragliding?
    A. A 100-year-old British woman B. Her 75-year-old son
    C. Her grandson D. Kevin Hintze
    26. How does the author feel about Mary’s action?
    A. Amazed B. Supportive C. Doubtful D. Worried
    27. The text is likely to appear in ________.
    A. a news report B. an advertisement C. a novel D. a science report

    C
The common cold is the world’s most widespread illness, which is probably why there are more misunderstandings about it than any of the other illnesses.
The most widespread mistake of all is that colds are caused by cold. They are not. They are caused by viruses passing on from person to person. You catch a cold by coming into contact, directly or indirectly, with someone who already has one. If cold causes colds, it would be reasonable to expect the Eskimos(爱斯基摩人) to suffer from them forever. But they do not. And in isolated North Pole regions explorers have reported being free from colds until coming into contact again with infected (感染的) people from the outside world by way of packages and mail dropped from airplanes.
At the Common Cold Research Unit in England, volunteers took part in experiments. After taking hot baths, they put on bathing suits, allowed themselves to be doused (浸入) with cold water, and then stood about dripping wet in drafty (通风的) rooms. Some wore wet socks all day while others exercised in the rain until close to exhaustion. Not one of the volunteers came down with a cold unless a cold virus was actually dropped in his nose.
If, then, cold and wet have nothing to do with catching colds, why are they more frequent in the winter? One explanation offered by scientists is that people tend to stay together indoors more in cold weather than at other times, and this makes it easier for cold viruses to be passed on.
No one has yet found a cure for the cold. There are drugs and pain suppressors such as aspirin, but all they do is to ease the symptoms.

    28. What do the Eskimos show?
A.Colds are truly full of myths.
B.Colds are more severe than other illnesses.
C.The idea that cold leads to colds is not true.
D.The Eskimos are stronger in fighting against viruses.

    29. What did the experiments mentioned in Paragraph 3 prove?
A.Being doused with cold water harms one’s body.
B.Taking hot baths made the volunteers easily tired.
C.It was viruses not cold that made people catch colds.
D.People like to exercise in the rain got colds more quickly
    30. According to the passage, why are colds commonly seen in winter?
A.Viruses can go into people’s warm bodies more easily in winter.
    B. Staying together indoors makes viruses easily spread.
    C. People are usually weak because of the extreme cold in winter.
D.There is great difference between indoor and outdoor temperature.
31.What does the passage mainly discuss?
    A. The myths about cold treatment.
    B. The experiments on common colds.
    C. The continued spread of common colds.
    D. The reason and the way people catch colds.

    D
During their childhood and teenage years, some young people may feel too shy or uncomfortable to interact(互动) with others of their age. Others may simply become too social in the use of technology to try outdoor interactions.
According to Auburn University professors, the experience of interacting with people of their own age is very important for young people. To encourage interaction in your community(社区), arrange a youth social activity. Such activities are a good way to encourage friendship and social development. You can arrange a bike tour through the local community, stopping along the way to interact with other young people and locals. A group hiking trip is another way to keep young people physically active and sociable. Arrange a day's hike through a forested park. Have them each bring some food to share and stop for a picnic along the way.
Technological development has made many children give up books and social activities in favor of television, computer and video games. Organize a youth weekly reading group to reinforce the value of reading and interacting with others. Organize a list of discussion topics and choose a day each week for group discussion.
Although many youth social events are aimed at entertainment(娱乐), it is also important to teach the value of community service.Arrange a trip to a local nursing home and have the young people spend a day socializing with the elderly. Or organize community clean-up and have them work to remove all the rubbish in the areas. Besides, teaching the value of giving back, these activities will allow young people to socialize with one another as well as with other members of the community.

32.How does the author develop the second paragraph?
A.By giving examples. B. By providing results.
C.By listing some facts. D. By explaining reasons.
33.What does the underlined word "'reinforce" in paragraph 3 probably mean?
    A. Compare. B. Explore. C. Strengthen. D. Appreciate.
34.Why does the author suggest a trip to a local nursing home?
A·To teach young people to value the present happy life.
B.To encourage young people to show respect for the old.
C.To make young people know more about the elders' life.
D.To show young people the value of community service.
    35. What is the text mainly about?
A.Some common problems of young people.
B.Some ways to teach the value of giving back.
C.Some methods to improve teenagers' relationship.
D.Some suggestions to help youth interact with each other.
