The pulse clips into the pants behind the left knee and contains a 370 mAh battery to ensure you don’t run out of power during your practice.
The Wearable X uses Bluetooth Low Energy to connect to your smartphone. To activate the pulse, double tap the surface of the pants until you see a blinking white light.
Our new app lets you choose between different exercises according to your preferences on your phone. The audio instructions are paired with gentle vibrations to give you clues where to focus and let you know if you have made it into the pose at the end of each pose. Once you have set your vibrations strength, you can place the phone next to your yoga mat during your session.
To wash, either put on hand wash or a gentle cycle after removing the pulse. The Wearable X allows tumble dry (甩干). Make sure it is dry before clipping the pulse back on.

Hilary Smith belonged to a good family. But by the age of twenty, he had spent all the money the good old family had. He then had some trouble with the bank and was put in prison. He escaped from the prison and ran to Australia without delay.
Hilary did not like Australia and Australia did not like Hilary. What he could do seemed to be one of two things: die or work. Then he remembered that he was not alone in the world. He had an aunt.
She was his father’s only sister, but his father used to say she brought no glory to the family. Hilary, of course, tried to discover what she had done. It seemed that she had failed to marry a nobleman. Instead, she had chosen a husband who was connected with “trade’’. Of course as soon as she became “Mrs. Parks’’, her brother considered her dead. Later on, Mr. Parks died and left her a lot of money; but that did not bring her back to life in her brother’s opinion.
Hilary discovered his aunt’s address. Fortunately she remained faithful and honest to him even after she fell ill. So Hilary’s star shone again, and soon he moved into her house and lived as comfortably as a sailor who had just reached harbor. He had only about six pence in his pocket.
One thing was soon clear: his aunt was seriously ill, and nothing could cure her illness. Hilary was very worried. Fate had found a home for him, and was now going to throw him out of it. There was only one thing that could save him: her will.
“Will? ’’ she said, “yes, I have made one. That was when I was a girl and had not much money. I left all my money to some religious people. ’’
“Didn’t you make another will when you were married? ’’ Hilary asked.
His aunt shook her head. “No, ’’ she said in a low voice, ’’There was no need. When I finally had a lot of money, I found I had no relations. ’’
On the next day he went to the public library and examined a book of law. It told him what he already believed. When a woman is married, an earlier will loses its value. A new will must be made. If no new will is made, the money goes to the nearest relation. Hilary knew that he was his aunt’s only relation. His future was safe.
After a few months had passed, Hilary’s problems became serious. He badly needed money. He had expensive tastes, and owed a lot of money to shopkeepers. They trusted him because his aunt was rich, but the debt was terrible.
Unfortunately his aunt did not want to discuss money matters at all. In the end they had a quarrel about the small amount of ten pounds. Hilary was not very angry. He began to wonder about a new problem. Was it kind to want his aunt to live any longer? Was it not better for her to die now? While he was considering what to do, his aunt told him that she was going to send for her lawyer. So she was going to make a new will, Hilary thought. She might leave all her money to someone else. Soon he reached a clear decision. He must do a great kindness to the poor old woman.
One night when the old servant who had been nursing his aunt went off, he doubled the amount of some medicine. The total amount was too great and it could just put her to sleep forever.
“Thank you,’’ his aunt took the glass from his hand with a grateful look.’’ I want, more than anything, to sleep, and never to wake up again. Is that what you wish, Hilary? Don’t blame me if I have some doubts about what you intended to do. Sick people get these ideas, you know. One thing I ought to explain to you. Mr. Parks never married me. He already had a wife and couldn’t marry again. That made your foolish father very angry with me...Well, if I am alive tomorrow, I shall make another will in your favor. If I die tonight, you’ll get nothing...No, Hilary, don’t try to take the glass away. If you do that, I shall know and I don’t want to know. Good night, Hilary.’’
Then, very carefully, she raised the glass to her mouth and drank.

There’s a child-like joy that comes with ordering something online — whether it be clothes or kitchen facilities. We sit refreshing the postal service to see when our items will arrive, and we become overly excited, hopeful and anxious.
Ryan Howes, a clinical psychologist from Pasadena, California, has interpreted this phenomenon as “anticipatory pleasure”. “A lot of people believe that placing that order and waiting for it does feel good. This is why people look forward to dinner reservations, hair appointments and yes, receiving packages,” he says.
But it’s not the purchase itself that brings about this happiness. Experts say there’s something about the anticipation of waiting that is exciting for those in need of change in their lives. “It can be helpful to anticipate good things in the future,’’says Ryan Howes. “Waiting for a parcel can serve as a temporary distraction (分心) from the dullness of your life because it gives you something new to wake up to and get excited about.”
However, anticipatory pleasure isn’t always a good thing. While waiting, many are worried about their items arriving on time, appearing broken, or simply not living up to expectations. Even when our package finally arrives, you’ll find that initial excitement has probably waned. Howes cautions that comfort shopping is only a temporary fix. It’s just a distraction from bigger problems, but it hasn’t done anything to change the bigger problems. It only helps you escape from them temporarily.
“Many people often seek external solutions, such as luxury purchases or alcohol, as a way of feeling better quickly. However, a healthier long-term curing mechanism is to look inward and appreciate your life with gratitude. Real pleasure comes from taking action rather than wait passively.” Howes says.
So the next time you feel the urge to order and track something online, chew over it.
28. What’s the purpose of paragraph 1?
A. To inform a trend. B. To issue a warning.
C. To describe a phenomenon. D. To state an opinion.
29. What does the underlined word “waned” in paragraph 4 probably mean?
A. Strengthened. B. Emerged.
C. Returned. D. Faded.
30. What’s Howes’s attitude to anticipatory pleasure?
A. Doubtful. B. Supportive.
C. Objective. D. Unclear.
31. What is Howes’s suggestion to readers?
A. Shopping online at will. B. Pursuing inner satisfaction actively.
C. Escaping from life occasionally. D. Seeking external stimulation.

Runners who encounter visual and auditory (听觉) distractions (分心) may be more likely to suffer leg injuries, according to a research by the Association of Academic Physiatrists in Las Vegas. Runners often seek distractions from the task at hand. Whether it is music, texting, daydreaming, taking in the sights, or propping a book up on the treadmill (跑步机), more often than not a distraction is welcome. But, researchers from the University of Florida have recently discovered that those distractions may lead to injury.
Daniel Herman, PhD, assistant professor at University of Florida, and his team conducted a research on the effect of visual and auditory distractions on 14 runners to determine what effect, if any, these distractions would have on things such as heart rate, how much a runner breathes per minute, how much oxygen is consumed by the body, the speed in which runners apply force to their bodies, and the force the ground applies to the runners’ bodies when they come in contact with it.
The runners were all injury free at the time of the study and ran 31 miles each week. Dr. Herman’s team had each participant run on a treadmill three separate times. The first time was without any distractions. The second time added a visual distraction, during which the runners concentrated on a screen displaying different letters in different colors with the runners having to note when a specific letter-color combination appeared. The third time added an auditory distraction similar to the visual distraction, with the runners having to note when a particular word was spoken by a particular voice.
When compared to running without distractions, the participants had faster application of force to their left and right legs, called loading rate, with auditory and visual distractions. They also experienced an increased amount of force from the ground on both legs, called ground reaction force, with auditory distractions. Finally, the runners tended to breathe heavier and have higher heart rates with visual and auditory distractions than without any distractions at all.
“Running in environments with different distractions may unfavorably affect running performance and injury risk,” explains Dr. Herman. “Sometimes these things cannot be avoided, but you may be able to minimize potentially cumulative (累积) effects. For example, when running a new route in a chaotic environment such as during a destination marathon, you may want to skip listening to something which may require more attention—like a new song playlist.”
Dr. Herman’s team will continue to investigate the potential relationship between distracted running and leg injuries, and any effect this relationship has on different training techniques that use auditory or visual cues.
32. Paragraph 2 tells us the research ________.
A. questions B. process C. results D. reflection
33. Based on the research, runners with auditory distractions tended to ________.
A. breathe heavier and have lower heart rates
B. gain a faster speed with slower loading rates
C. apply more force with less oxygen consumption
D. get an increased amount of ground reaction force
34. What can we infer from the passage?
A. Running with distractions becomes uncommon nowadays.
B. Listening to a new song while running guarantees performance.
C. Runners are advised to minimize distractions in a destination marathon.
D. Runners are more likely to get injured in an environment without distractions.
35. What is probably the next task for Dr. Herman’s team?
A. What determines training techniques.
B. What effective ways can cure leg injuries.
C. Why runners use auditory and visual cues.
D. How distractions should be used in training.
第二节 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
As university doors opened in September for a new year, an estimated six million people across the world took to the streets for climate action. The power of this youth-led campaign reflected the urgency for action on the environment. So what now? 36 Here are some ideas about how you can be sustainable as a student.
What you put on your plate matters: nearly a quarter of all greenhouse gases come from agriculture, and most of those are from meat and dairy. Meat and dairy consumption results in excessive land use, industrial emissions, methane, water use and deforestation. 37 A meat-free diet has been recommended as the single-biggest way an individual can reduce their effect on the planet.
Forget fast fashion: keeping your clothes for as long as possible has much more than just monetary value. In the UK, clothing has the fourth-largest environmental effect after housing, transport and food. 38
For some freshers, this will be your first time living alone, which means doing your own washing, cooking and cleaning. 39 Wash your clothes at a lower temperature, and choose a bamboo toothbrush or more eco-friendly sanitary (卫生) products. When shopping, see if there’s a zero-waste shop nearby, where all products are free from plastic packaging.
40 But campaigning is important too. University campuses can be the perfect place for this. If you don’t know where and how to start, see if there are any societies at your university like Student Climate Network.
A. So recycle your clothes or mend them.
B. Meat consumption delays industrial development.
C. And clothing has a bigger impact on environment than food.
D. Cutting out meat is an easy way to reduce your carbon footprint.
E. Individual actions matter, as they provide an alternative to how we can live.
F. There are simple ways you can change your habits to live more sustainably.
G. For freshers starting a new chapter at university, deciding how to live your life is vital.

7-year-old Tommy Wilkinson’s childish desires got the best of him. He envied his best friend Eric over his new fancy bicycle. One day, Tommy gathered the courage to demand the bicycle. His parents refused him. But his dad, Peter Wilkinson, made a suggestion: “You can get the bike if you save up for it.” Without a second thought, Tommy decided to set aside money from his allowance (零花钱) every day to raise the amount he needed: $600. Every day, the little boy made sure he placed some money into his piggy bank.
After almost two years, the day finally arrived. “Finally!” Tommy joyfully shouted as he dropped the piggy bank to the floor. Inside was $830! More than the $600 he was aiming for! Instantly, the excited boy asked his dad to take him to the bike store.
On their way to the store, Tommy accompanied his dad to the supermarket to buy some groceries. They were lining up at the checkout when Tommy noticed an old woman with a little girl in a wheelchair. The old lady dropped her groceries on the road. She looked helpless, and since she was holding the little girl’s wheelchair, she couldn’t pick them up.
Tommy quickly approached the woman. “Hey, let me help you. Where is your car?” he asked the woman whose name was Barbara. The woman told him that they lived across the street and didn’t have a car. “I’ll carry them for you,” Tommy said. On the way, the woman’s granddaughter, Chloe, told Tommy their story. It turned out Chloe injured her leg in a car crash, and her parents died in it. Barbara had to sell her car to pay for Chloe’s surgery and wheelchair. Their story moved Tommy.
After arriving at Barbara’s house, Tommy made an unbelievable offer. “I’ll get you a car!” he shouted with joy. “Not a new one, though. My dad sells used cars and I’ll get you one!” Tommy’s offer really shocked Barbara. “But I don’t think I can afford a car now,” she said.

Dear friends,
The topic of my speech today is “Keep optimistic in our life”.
As we all know, life is full of ups and downs. When we encounter difficulties in life, we notice that some of us choose to bury their heads in the sand. Instead, we should take an optimistic attitude toward life.
When one is optimistic about life, he always holds the belief that he will make it at last. When I entered the key school, I found I had great difficulty in my study and was left behind by many students. So frustrated was I that I didn’t have confidence any more. Luckily, it was at this very moment that my teacher encouraged me to put aside anxiety and approach problems with optimism. Later on, I made steady progress. To me, life is full of sunshine again.
Just as a proverb says, “Life is a mirror. If you smile at life, life often smiles at you.” Only when we learn to keep positive and optimistic, can we have more power to pursue our dreams.
Thanks for listening!

“Don’t worry! My dad will help you get one. I promise!” Tommy said firmly. The boy immediately rushed back to talk to his dad about it. “Well, it’s hard to buy a car if she has no money,” Peter said. Tommy felt disheartened because he had promised Barbara he would get her a car. Then Peter came up with another suggestion. “Maybe I can help her with a monthly payment plan, so she won’t have to pay the whole amount at once. But still, it won’t be easy for her.” Without hesitation, Tommy said, “I can help her with my$830!”
Peter was surprised that Tommy would offer to give all his savings to help Barbara. “Are you sure?” Peter asked. “Yes! She needs a car more than I need a bike, Dad.” Tommy said. Peter was deeply touched by his son’s kindness and agreed. Soon, he helped Barbara get a used car. Tommy was truly happy, and he stopped complaining about the things he didn’t have. Instead, he felt grateful for the good health and love he was blessed with. He realized that the goodness around him was priceless and that money was nothing compared to it.

W: Yes. I don’t think there is anything else I need to ask.
Text 10
W: I was a 20-year-old student, preparing to be a real nurse in a hospital. ⑰⑳Chris was an 8-year-old boy who excelled in every sport he played. One day he explored a construction site, climbed a ladder, and fell, which got him a broken arm that later had to be cut off. So I provided Chris’s physical care. Several weeks later, I said that he’d do his bath by himself. He said, “How can I do anything with just one hand?” I said, “Sure you can do it, Chris. At least you have your right hand.” He turned his face away and muttered, “I’m left-handed. At least I used to be. How could I have taken right-handedness for granted?” ⑲The next morning, I said, “You’re left-handed and I’m right-handed. I’ll put my right hand behind my back. Every time I ask you to do something with your right hand, I will do it first, with my left hand.” He glared at me, “I need to brush my teeth.” I managed to take the top off the toothpaste, and then placed his toothbrush on his table. ⑱The harder I struggled, the more interested he became. After almost ten minutes, and a lot of wasted toothpaste, I succeeded. Finally Chris was willing to learn to take care of himself.
⑳Then 30 years have passed since our time together. I’ve encountered ups and downs, but I’m always encouraged by the experience with Chris.
