As a child, he was serious and sensitive. He loved to draw, and his work showed talent, but no one encouraged him to become an artist. Instead, his father thought he should take a job—something like a carpenter. As a young adult, he wandered from job to job with little success and very little money, becoming more depressed with each failure. In March 1880, however, just before his 27th birthday, something changed inside van Gogh. He realized he was meant to be a painter, and he began to study art in Brussels, receiving money from his brother Theo, which helped him to live.
In 1886, van Gogh moved to Paris, hoping to learn more about color techniques being used by Impressionist (印象派的) artists there. Instead of grays and browns, his work began to use blue and red, and then yellow and orange. Soon he began to see life differently: Go slow. Stop thinking. Look around. You'll see something beautiful if you open yourself. These were the principles that guide his art. With his innovative (创新的) use of colors, van Gogh wanted to show his viewers how to better appreciate a flower, the night sky, or a person's face.
Today, people around the world immediately recognize Starry Nights and Sunflowers—both painted in bold, intense(浓重的) colors—as the work of Vincent van Gogh. Probably no other artist, at any time in any culture, has achieved such popularity(普及,受欢迎). His Portrait (肖像画)of Dr. Gachet sold in 1990 reached more than $80 million, breaking the world record for art pieces. Many of his other works have also sold for millions. Of course, people are buying great art when they purchase his paintings. But they are also buying a piece of his story, which like his work, will live on forever.4. C. the new record for art pieces D. van Gogh's popularity7. What's the author's purpose in writing the text?A. To introduce a great artist.     B. To promote artistic principles.
    C. To encourage studies on art.  D. To emphasize the value of art.                                     CEmergencies (紧急情况)can happen anytime,so being prepared for a home first-aid kit is important for your family. Having a proper one in your home is an easy but necessary part of good emergency preparation. Pick a Good Container. (容器) One good choice is a large translucent plastic container, which makes it easy to see the materials inside. Lunch boxes are also another good choice. Basically,if it’s big enough, portable(便携式的),and at least somewhat water resistant(防水的),it can make a good container. Regardless of your container choice,it should be easy to recognize,so write “FIRST AID” (急救)on it with a marker. Make Your Kit Safely Accessible. When your child is crying about a“boo-boo”on her knee, you don’t want your home kit buried on the back of a closet or lost because it’s not being returned to the same spot after each use. Teach Your Family about the Kit. For younger children who shouldn’t use the items in the kit, teach them where it’s located,so they could show a visitor, relative or babysitter.(保姆) For older children and adults, instruct them on how to use the items in it. Use a first-aid instruction booklet, like those available from the American Red Cross for guidance and place a booklet in the kit for reference. Keep Your Kit Up-to-date. No one wants to fetch a first-aid kit and find the bandage box empty or the pain relievers expired(过期). Keep track of supply amounts and expiration dates regularly. Create a Checklist in the Kit. Record every item on a sheet of paper and keep it in the kit. Besides, record the amounts of the items and expiration dates next to the listed items on the checklist that you include in your kit. In this way, anyone who wants to reach the kit can immediately know what it includes and doesn’t include. Also, they can be clear whether the items can be used. 8. Which is close to the meaning of the underlined word “translucent”?A. Wide.        B. Advanced.         C. Clear.              D. Strong. 9. What should the young children be told about the home first-aid kit?A. How to use the items.                        B. What it contains. C. Where to place it.                     D. When to fetch it. 10. Why should the home first-aid kit be examined regularly?A. To make it clean and tidy.                    B. To make sure it’s available. C. To be familiar with the items.                D. To learn to deal with emergencies. 11. What makes it easy to find the items in the kit?A. A first-aid marker.   B. A checklist.          C. A guide.   D. A booklet. DRight now, social media is flooded with photos of people with their celery(芹菜) juice. They say that the green drink cured them of headaches, skin conditions, and cleared poisons in their bodies, and left them with a feeling of pure joy.
Celery is suddenly in the spotlight.(聚光灯) It's got a respectable amount of vitamin C and B, and has a little bit of fiber. It's full of water and refreshing. I've no doubt that celery juice helps people feel more fresh and juicy in the morning. And I know from personal experience that a green drink is a nice, light way to start the day.
But the magic statements(言论) about celery juice leave me more than a little doubt. If celery juice did, indeed, wash viruses(病毒) out of the body and cure headaches, wouldn't the world be free of headache medicine? And the medical explanations surrounding celery juice's powers just don't make sense—for instance, that drinking celery juice increases bile(胆汁) or that it "restores your central nervous system". Huh?
There are also drawbacks(缺点) of juicing in general. It's quicker to drink juice than it is to eat fruits and vegetables, so it may feel less satisfying than eating whole food. You also lose the fiber when juicing. Celery juice is made by putting the stalks(茎秆) through a juicer or processing them in a regular fruit mixer and straining the mixture through cheesecloth or a nut-milk bag, leaving all the fiber behind. It's stated that removing the fiber from celery makes the healing powers stronger, but unlike celery juice, fiber is actually proven to be good for you. The benefits range from keeping you regular to lowering blood pressure. To get these fiber benefits, throw a stalk of celery into your favorite fruit drink, so you're getting the whole vegetable, not just the juice.
My two cents: If you want to try celery juice, there aren't drawbacks beyond the cost and the taste. But don't set your expectations for healing too high.12. According to the author, celery juice ______.A. is only a kind of green drink
    B. has great practical values in use
    C. can cure people of some diseases
    D. contains less fiber than other fruit juice13. What is the author's purpose of writing the text?A. To show the value of celery.
    B. To promote a new kind of drink.
    C. To persuade people to drink green drink.
    D. To show his opinion on drinking celery juice.14. What can be a suitable title for this passage?A. Is It Right to Be a Vegetarian?
    B. Is Celery Juice a Magic Cure?
    C. Is Social Media Telling the Truth?
    D. Is Celery Juice Better than Celery?15. What is the authors attitude to the celery juices healing function?A. supportive        B. indifferent        C. Ambiguous(模糊不清的)       D. aganist  第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。Feeling unconfident is something many guys struggle with. But some bad eating habits of teens are really serious and need to be changed. It is said that students have difficulty in concentrating in class if they dont have breakfast, causing bad results in their school performances. So its important to make a reasonable life plan and obey it. For some teenagers, eating too much fast food is a habit that they cant get rid of. Containing too much sugar and fat, fast food contributes to various diseases. Its advised to quit consuming fast food frequently. Besides, most of the teenagers prefer meat to fresh vegetables and fruits so that their bodies lack vital nutrients. Therefore, it matters that we keep a balanced diet, which helps build our bodies. In general, how our bodies develop depends on what and how we eat. So its time to form a healthy eating habit.
