表示过去发生的动作或状态，表示过去习惯或经常发生的动作。
① I gt up at six this mrning.今早我六点起床。(表示过去发生的动作或状态）② We visited the factry last week.上周我们参观了那个工厂。(表示过去发生的动作或状态）③ When I was yung, I ften played ping-png after schl.我小时候经常放学后打乒乓球。(这里表示过去习惯或经常发生的动作）
一般过去时常与表示过去的时间状语连用。

一般过去时动词要用过去式。
He cleaned his rm yesterday.他昨天打扫了房间。(这里的cleaned是clean的过去式)
动词过去式的规则变化。
①在动词后面加-ed。如：wrk→wrked②以辅音字母加y结尾的动词，变y为i再加-ed。如：carry→carried study→studied③以e结尾，直接加-d。如：live→lived④以重读闭音节结尾且末尾只有一个辅音字母的动词，双写该辅音字母，再加-ed。如：stp→stpped plan→planned
动词过去式的不规则变化。
如： see- sawg-wenthave-had 等
