“I have travelled the world for 25 years in search of trouble,” admits Dr David Nott in his recent autobiography, War Doctor: Surgery on the Front Line. “It is a kind of addiction, a pull I find hard to resist.” This pull has seen him use his surgical skills to help those in need by taking unpaid, month-long breaks from his “day job” as an NHS surgeon in the UK every year to work in conflict zones and disaster areas.
He first worked in Sarajevo in 1993 as a volunteer with the French charity Médecins Sans Froatières. The hospital be worked in had so many holes in its walls caused by bombing and sniper(狙击手) fire that it was called the “Swiss Cheese Hospital”. It was his first insight into the terrifying reality of treating patients in a war zone. The hospital suffered power cuts during operations and he and his team were regularly shot at.
But Nott found this exhilarating(令人激动的). “Going to Sarajevo, almost getting killed, I had never felt so wonderful. I really felt as though somebody bad injected me with something. I felt fantastic. I think to skirt death—and then to realize how close you are to death and that you survived it is exciting. And that’s the experience I’ve had many times over.”
This attitude may seem reckless (鲁莽的), but it means that Nott has saved lives in desperate situations. In Gaza in 2014, he decided not to abandon a young girl in the middle of surgery despite being told that the hospital was about to be bombed. He carried on, no bombs fell and the girl survived. He has kept a photograph of them taken together three days later. In Yemen, he operated on the wife of a bomb-maker who had accidentally blown up his own house. Nott found a detonator (雷管) buried in her leg and bad to carefully dispose of it before continuing the operation.
24、What does the underlined word “It” in paragraph 1 refer to?
    A. Travelling the world.
    B. Working as a surgeon in a war zone.
    C. Performing surgeries on his patients.
    D. Taking month-long breaks from his day job.
25、When was the book War Doctor: Surgery on the Front Line, probably published?
    A.In 1993. B.In 2014. C.In 2018. D.In 2021.
26、What makes the experience thrilling according to Nott?
    A. The feeling of narrowly escaping death.
    B. The thought of saving lives.
    C. The improvement of his surgery skills.
    D. The difficulty of working in desperate situations.
27、Which of the following words can best describe Dr. David Nott?
A.Modest and courageous. B.Generous and strict.
C.Careless and aggressive. D.Adventurous and selfless.
    C
According to the Solar Energy Industry Association, the number of solar panels installed(安装) has grown rapidly in the past decade, and it has to grow even faster to meet climate goals. But all of that growth will take up a lot of space, and though more and more people accept the concept of solar energy, few like large solar panels to be installed near them.
Solar developers want to put up panels as quickly and cheaply as possible, so they haven't given much thought to what they put under them. Often, they'll end up filling the area with small stones and using chemicals to control weeds. The result is that many communities, especially in farming regions, see solar farms as destroyers of the soil.
“Solar projects need to be good neighbors,” says Jordan Macknick, the head of the Innovative Site Preparation and Impact Reductions on the Environment(InSPIRE) project. “They need to be protectors of the land and contribute to the agricultural economy.” InSPIRE is investigating practical approaches to “low-impact” solar development, which focuses on establishing and operating solar farms in a way that is kinder to the land. One of the easiest low-impact solar strategies is providing habitat for pollinators(传粉昆虫).
Habitat loss, pesticide use, and climate change have caused dramatic declines in pollinator populations over the past couple of decades, which has damaged the U.S. agricultural economy. Over 28 states have passed laws related to pollinator habitat protection and pesticide use. Conservation organizations put out pollinator-friendliness guidelines for home gardens, businesses, schools, cities—and now there are guidelines for solar farms.
Over the past few years, many solar farm developers have transformed the space under their solar panels into a shelter for various kinds of pollinators, resulting in soil improvement and carbon reduction. “These pollinator-friendly solar farms can have a valuable impact on everything that's going on in the landscape,” says Macknick.
28、What do solar developers often ignore?
A.The decline in the demand for solar energy.
B.The negative impact of installing solar panels.
C.The rising labor cost of building solar farms.
D.The most recent advances in solar technology.
29、What does InSPIRE aim to do?
A.Improve the productivity of local farms.
B.Invent new methods for controlling weeds.
    C.Make solar projects environmentally friendly.
D.Promote the use of solar energy in rural areas.
30、What is the purpose of the laws mentioned in paragraph 4?
    A. To conserve pollinators. B. To restrict solar development.
    C. To diversify the economy. D. To ensure the supply of energy.
31、Which of the following is the best title for the text?
    A. Pollinators: To Leave or to Stay B. Solar Energy: Hope for the Future
    C. Inspire: A Leader in Agriculture D. Solar Farms: A New Development
    D
Seagrass meadows (海草床) are wonder plants growing beneath the sea. They feed and shelter sea life and are masterful at storing carbon. Thanks to the assistance of tiger sharks, a huge seagrass meadow in the Bahamas Banks was recently discovered, offering the world a tool to fight climate change.
Seagrass has usually been detected by Earth-orbiting satellites that identify darker patches in the blue water. In this study, tiger sharks were selected as research tools due to their close relation with seagrass ecosystems. They spend 70% of their time in seagrass meadows. The team equipped eight tiger sharks with satellite tags, seven sharks with camera tags, and used a 360-degree camera on a shark for the first time ever.
The data researchers collected was astonishing. The world’s largest seagrass ecosystem, measuring at least 66,900 square kilometers, has been discovered. This reflects a 41% increase from previous estimates of global seagrass. Seagrass can capture(捕获) huge quantities of carbon by photosynthesis and stores it on the seafloor. In terms of climate change, this is excellent news; seagrass is 35 times faster at removing carbon than tropical rainforests. When referred to global seagrass carbon stock estimates, the study indicates that seagrass in the Bahamas may contain 19.2% to 26.3% of all the carbon stored in seagrass meadows on Earth.
Yet seagrass meadows are rapidly disappearing, with over 92% of meadows in the UK gone, according to the World Wildlife Fund. Scientists are collecting seeds and trying to grow new seagrass meadows through restoration (修复) projects. This new discovery offers optimism and proves the importance of the ocean for healing.
The sharks led us to the seagrass ecosystem in the Bahamas, which we now know is likely the most significant blue carbon sink on the planet. What this discovery shows us is that ocean exploration and research are essential for a healthy future. The untapped potential of the ocean is limitless. These meadows can be protected and can be replicated, offering hope for climate change around the globe.
32、Why were tiger sharks chosen as research tools?
    A. They are more flexible than other sea animals.
    B. They can quickly adjust themselves to the deep sea.
    C. They can be easily equipped with experimental devices.
    D. They have a strong connection with seagrass ecosystems.
33、What are the numbers in paragraph 3 mainly about?
    A. The reduction of global seagrass meadows.
    B. The impact of climate change on sea life.
    C. The rapid increase in the amount of carbon on Earth.
    D. The potential value of the world’s largest seagrass ecosystem.
34、What are scientists doing to protect seagrass?
    A. Planting more seagrass meadows.
    B. Developing new technology to collect seeds.
    C. Mapping the distribution of seagrass meadows.
    D. Encouraging people to join in restoration projects.
35、Which could be the best title for the text?
    A. The New Way of Removing Carbon
    B. The Significance of Ocean Exploration
    C. A New Discovery: World’s Largest Seagrass Meadow
    D. Tiger Sharks: Scientists’ Essential Helper to Study Climate

Miss Lee was an English teacher in an international school. She had many years of over-seas teaching experience. She had a weekly English music broadcast where she played different English songs. She found it a very good way to benefit her students in English study. What's more, it did improve the relationship between her and her students.
In order to carry it forward, Miss Lee tried to get her students to recommend English songs to her for the broadcast. The students were very enthusiastic about it, and they were actively involved in it. They tried their best to find good English songs for her. The activity was becoming more and more popular among students and teachers. The time for English song recommendation became the moment everyone was looking forward to.
When broadcasting, she usually announced who recommended the song and then played it during lunch time. Of course, if a song was chosen to be played, the person who recommended it also felt very proud.
Miss Lee tried to give every student a chance to share themselves through their music, including one disagreeable student, Chris. He chose to sit in the back of the classroom alone and constantly couldn't concentrate on study. Most of the other teachers and students found it difficult to communicate with him. However, Miss Lee knew that he just needed a friend, or at least someone he could connect with.
One day, Miss Lee called him into her office and said, "Chris, please think of a song you like that has some beautiful English words, and I'll play it on the broadcast for you." Chris agreed happily because he felt being valued.
Chris eventually recommended a song. Miss Lee couldn't like the song too much. She put it in on the broadcast as scheduled and made sure to announce Chris's name, so everyone knew that he recommended such a great song. As the song rang, Chris cheered loudly, "It's my song." Then he sang along with it, and he sang amazingly well. From then on, Miss Lee would ask Chris to lead the other classmates to sing an English song before class. She exactly felt him warming up to her.
    注意:
    1.续写词数应为150左右;
    2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Playing the song Chris recommended completely changed his life.

Around 90% of the people attending the festival are Germans providing a perfect chance to practise speaking the language.
    22、答案:A
由Exit Festival, Serbia中的the festival began as a way to show people's dissatisfaction with the government. These days it's less political... 故选A项。
The most enjoyable part of the weekend is the ceilidh(traditional Scottish dance and party) which is always a lively event. It doesn't even matter if you're a beginner because the band teaches you each dance.可知,周末最令人愉快的部分是ceilidh(传统苏格兰舞蹈和派对),它总是非常活跃。
根据文章第一段“It is a kind of addiction, a pull I find hard to resist.(这是一种上瘾,一种我无法抗拒的诱惑)”和第一段最后一句“This pull has seen him use his surgical skills to help those in need by taking unpaid, month-long breaks from his ‘day job’ as an NHS surgeon in the UK every year to work in conflict zones and disaster areas.(在这种诱惑下,他利用自己的外科技能帮助那些需要帮助的人,他每年都会从他作为英国NHS外科医生的“日常工作”中抽出长达一个月的无薪假期,前往冲突地区和灾区工作)”可知,It指代的就是pull,一种诱惑,最后一句解释了这种诱惑就是他利用自己的外科技能在战争地区工作。
根据文章第一段第一句“I have travelled the world for 25 years in search of trouble,” admits Dr David Nott in his recent autobiography, War Doctor: Surgery on the Front Line.(大卫·诺特医生在他最近的自传《战医:前线的外科手术》中承认:我周游世界25年来一直在寻找麻烦)”和第二段“He first worked in Sarajevo in 1993 as a volunteer with the French charity Médecins Sans Froatières.(他第一次在萨拉热窝工作是在1993年,当时他是法国慈善机构无国界医生组织的志愿者)”可知,这本书记录的是大卫医生在前线的做外科手术的事情,他1993第一次参加这种工作,书中又说他周游世界已经25年了,所以1993+25=2018。
    26、答案:A
根据文章第三段“I think to skirt death—and then to realize how close you are to death and that you survived it is exciting. And that’s the experience I’ve had many times over.(我认为避免死亡—然后意识到你离死亡有多近,并且你活了下来一是令人兴奋的。这就是我多次经历过的事情)可知,大卫医生认为这种死里逃生的感觉是令人兴奋的。题干中的“thrilling”和文中的“exciting”是同义替换。故选A。
根据文章第三段“I think to skirt death—and then to realize how close you are to death and that you survived it is exciting. And that's the experience I've had many times over.(我认为避免死亡—然后意识到你离死亡有多近,并且你活了下来—是令人兴奋的。这就是我多次经历过的事情)”可推知,大卫医生是富有冒险精神的;根据文章最后一段“In Gaza in 2014, he decided not to abandon a young girl in the middle of surgery despite being told that the hospital was about to be bombed. He carried on, no bombs fell and the girl survived.(2014年,在加沙,尽管被告知医院即将被炸毁,他还是决定不抛弃正在接受手术的一个年轻女孩。他继续进行手术,没有炸弹落下,女孩也活了下来)”和“In Yemen, he operated on the wife of a bomb-maker who had accidentally blown up his own house. Nott found a detonator(雷管) buried in her leg and bad to carefully dispose of it before continuing the operation.(在也门,他为一名炸弹制造者的妻子做手术,他意外炸毁了自己的房子。诺特发现一枚雷管埋在她的腿里,在继续手术之前,他必须小心处理)”可推知,大卫医生是无私的。故选D。
    28、答案:B
解析:推理判断题。根据第二段中的Often, they'll end up filling the area with small stones and using chemicals to control weeds. The result is that many communities, especially in farming regions, see solar farms as destroyers of the soil.(通常,他们最终会用小石子填满该地区,并使用化学物质来控制杂草。
InSPIRE is investigating practical approaches to “low-impact” solar development, which focuses on establishing and operating solar farms in a way that is kinder to the land.(InSPIRE正在研究"低影响“太阳能开发的实用方法,其重点是以对土地更友好的方式建立和运营太阳能农场。)可知,InSPIRE采用友好的方式建立和运营太阳能农场,所以InSPIRE的目标是使太阳能农场更加环保。故选C。
    30、答案:A
Over 28 states have passed laws related to pollinator habitat protection and pesticide use.(超过28个州通过了与传粉动物栖息地保护和农药使用相关的法律。) 故选A。
Over the past few years, many solar farm developers have transformed the space under their solar panels into a shelter for various kinds of pollinators, resulting in soil improvement and carbon reduction.(在过去几年中,许多太阳能农场开发商将太阳能电池板下的空间改造成各种传粉者的庇护所,从而改善了土壤并减少了碳排放。)
根据第二段“In this study, tiger sharks were selected as research tools due to their highly consistent associations with seagrass ecosystems.(在这项研究中,虎鲨被选为研究工具,因为它们与海草生态系统的联系非常一致)”可知,虎鲨被选为研究工具的原因是它们与海草生态系统有着密切的联系,故选D项。

The world's largest seagrass ecosystem, measuring at least 66,900 square kilometers, has been discovered(研究人员收集的数据令人震惊。世界上最大的海草生态系统已被发现,面积至少为66900平方公里)”以及“When referred to global seagrass carbon stock estimates, the study indicates that seagrass in the Bahamas may contain 19.2% to 26.3% of all the carbon stored in seagrass meadows on Earth.(当提到全球海草碳储量估计时,该研究表明,巴哈马的海草可能含有地球上海草草甸中所有碳储量的19.2%至26.3%)”可知,第三段提到的数字是关于世界上最大的海草生态系统的潜在价值,故选D项。
    34、答案:A
根据倒数第二段第二句“Scientists are collecting seeds and trying to grow new seagrass meadows through restoration projects.(科学家们正在收集种子,并试图通过恢复项目种植新的海草草地)”可知,科学家们打算种植更多的海草草地以保护海草,故选A项。
根据文章第一段“Thanks to the assistance of tiger sharks, a huge seagrass meadow in the Bahamas Banks was recently discovered, offering the world a tool to fight climate change.(在虎鲨的帮助下,最近在巴哈马群岛发现了一片巨大的海草草地,为世界提供了应对气候变化的工具)”、第三段第一句“The data researchers collected was astonishing. The world's largest seagrass ecosystem, measuring at least 66,900 square kilometers, has been discovered.(研究人员收集的数据令人震惊。世界上最大的海草生态系统已经被发现,面积至少为66900平方公里)”以及最后一段“What this discovery shows us is that ocean exploration and research are essential for a healthy future.(这一发现向我们表明,海洋探索和研究对健康的未来至关重要)”可知,本文主要介绍了一项发现:世界上最大的海草生态系统,故选C项。
Why have adults decided to start coloring again
They take on full-time jobs that often demand more than 40 hours a week, equally as part–time jobs, family responsibilities表示“他们从事的全职工作通常每周需要40小时以上,还有与之同等重要的兼职工作、家庭责任”,可知表示“成年人过着忙碌、劳累的生活”的选项A符合前后的语境,busy, tiring lives是关键词。故选:A。
A trend among adults is to seek out childhood experiences A brand new coloring book with bright markers, crayons, and colored pencils provide endless possibilities表示“一本带有明亮记号笔、蜡笔和彩色铅笔的全新着色书提供了无限的可能性”,可知表示“也许没有什么比一本彩色书更能代表童年了”的选项E符合前后的语境。
Adults are constantly staring at screens: Desktops, laptops, tablets, phones, TVS, etc. Turn them off and leave them in another room表示“把它们关掉,放在另一个房间里”,可知表示“这就是放下科技产品”的选项C符合本段的主题,the technology是关键词。
Of course, to truly realize the benefit of stepping away from the devices for a period of time, you can't constantly be checking them while you color表示“当然,要想真正认识到在一段时间内远离这些设备的好处,你不能一边给它们上色一边不停地查看它们(代指手机之类)”,可知表示“成人彩绘书提供了一个很好的出口,以逃避所有的屏幕”的选项G符合前后的语境,stepping away from和escape from是关联词。
1-5.DDADB; 6-10.CABAC; 11-15.DDCBB
1. wearing2. is believed3. an4. particularly5. agreement6. on7. which8. consists9. used10. to keep
    Dear John,
I learned about your trouble from the website and I’m sorry that you are having such a hard time at the moment. I’m writing to offer some solutions for your concern.
From my point of view, it’s very common for students to feel under pressure before exams. They are so thirsty for academic knowledge and psychological development. For me, sometimes the pressure was so unbearable that anger would arise, affecting my health and the moods of people around me. Being angry only led to bad scores, as my mind wasn’t clear.
However, this can be controlled if you take useful measures. First of all, turn to teachers for help. They will not only solve your academic problems but also offer their guidance on your personal issues. What’s more, remember to save some time for leisure. Why not schedule regular sports activities to refresh your mind after an intensive study session? Last but not least, keep a positive attitude towards all the obstacles in life so you can have a better chance to succeed.
I hope you will find these suggestions practical. Looking forward to your reply.
    Yours,
    Li Hua
