Cameroon(喀麦隆)is experimenting with Africa's first mobile system to send a bean signal (信号) over a wireless network. The system will give much needed medical aid to heart patients in poor areas. Arthur Zang invented the device called the Cardiopad(触屏医疗平板电脑). He was just 24 years old when he invented it. The Cardiopad allows heart examinations to be performed. The results of the tests are sent wirelessly to experts in other parts of the country who can understand them.
Simplice Momo is a 55-year-old heart patient in a poor area of the country. He says the device saves his time and money. Itis too costly and difficult for him to see a heart expert in the city.
Cameroon has a population of about 22 million. But it only has 40 heart surgeons . Most are in the cities of Douala or Yaounde. Sometimes the heart experts needed can only be found outside the country. Now the device allows doctors to send patients'medical information to experts in Europe.
Arthur Zang started the Cardiopad project five years ago. Then, the young computer engineer needed more training and $45. 000 to make the device. His family did not have the money.
Bankers would not give him loans (贷款) . So he shared his idea on social media. The president of Cameroon, Paul Biya, provided him with the money for the project. Mr. Zang also received free online training from an engineering school in India.

We have to accept the truth: Sometimes, we just want to shout out loud.
For example, we all have days like this: our dog has made a mess on the floor we just cleaned, or our friend called to tell us he or she couldn’t come at the last minute when we had cooked dinner for him or her. We might be really angry but we tried to bear things like those. According to ancient Chinese wisdom (至理名言), we should shout in a loud voice instead of keeping quiet. In fact, it’s good for our health.
“Chinese people have passed on the practice from ancient times to now as a part of traditional medicine,” said Mrs. Li, a 60-year-old woman from Hangzhou. “My parents taught me to do this. It’s a part of our folk culture.”
Mrs. Li is a member of a group of people who love shouting. Each morning, she and some of her friends climb to the top of a hill and let out loud shouts before starting their daily exercise. They believe that shouting is good exercise for their lungs (肺) and it brings them a lot of fun.
“Sometimes I shout out and others shout back,” said Mrs. Gu, another shouting lover. “It makes you happy. You laugh and then you feel very comfortable.”
Dr. Peter Calafiura, an American doctor, agrees that shouting can have a positive (积极的) influence on people’s health.

Small talk like “What do you have there? Ice cream?” or “The weather today is beautiful, isn’t it?” is meaningless and a waste of time, according to some people. But scientists believe that it is actually more useful than it may appear to be.
One example comes when you are on a train or a plane. The thought of talking to the stranger sitting beside you can be scary and silly, because you know the conversation is sure to be embarrassing (尴尬). But a study by the University of Chicago in the US found that people who talk to strangers enjoy a better ride than those who sit in silence or keep playing with their phones.
In the study, researchers asked people at Chicago train stations to start conversations with other travellers. Most of them refused to do so at first because they didn’t expect to get a friendly answer. But the result is the opposite—most strangers were not only willing to be talked to, but also pleasant to talk to. “Human beings are social animals,” Nicholas Epley, one of the lead researchers said. “Other people are people, too. And it turns out that they’d like to get to know you.”
Apart from making you happy, small talk with strangers can also help you feel connected to your surroundings. Some studies found that when people are often smiled at, made eyes contact with and spoken to at coffee shops, there is a better chance that they will have a stronger sense of belonging instead of feeling like they are being ignored and left out.
And if you are already comfortable enough to make small talk with strangers, you should try to develop it into something “bigger”. A study showed that having a deep and meaningful conversation gives you even more happiness than small talk. But deep conversation can start with small talk, can’t they? So the first step is to start talking, no matter how casual the topic is. And who knows, maybe an opening line as simple as “I like your hat” could lead to a serious conversation in which you learn something new from a stranger.
46.What do we know from the result of the study by the University of Chicago?
A.All people are polite to strangers.
B.People naturally want to know about others.
C.People are afraid of being talked to.
D.People like to show their good side to strangers.
47.What does the underline word “ignored” in Paragraph 4 probably mean in Chinese?
    A.欣赏 B.鼓励 C.吸引 D.忽视
48.Which paragraph talks about the advantages small talk gives people?
    A.Paragraph 1. B.Paragraph 3.
    C.Paragraph 4. D.Paragraph 5.
49.How can people get more happiness from small talk?
    A.By starting with casual topics.
    B.By choosing pleasant surroundings.
C.By making the small talk into a deep conversation.
D.By talking to more strangers at the same time.
50.What does the text mainly tell us?
A.Small talk can be very useful.
    B.Different opinions about small talk.
C.How to start a small conversation in our daily life.
D.The difference between small talk and deep conversations.

The opening ceremony of the 2022 Winter Olympics was held in Beijing on Friday night, February 4th. Social media users described it with these words: amazing, flashing and shining.
The main stage of the ceremony in the National Stadium, commonly known as the Bird’s Nest, is designed to be like a huge Chinese character “Zhong”, covering almost the whole stage. In fact, it is the world’s largest ground LED screen. The screen, with a size of 10,552 square meters, was actually made up of about 42,000 small LED units. The huge ground screen, together with a 10-meter-high vertical (竖的) screen, allowed the audience to have a wonderful experience.
To build such a big ground LED screen wasn’t an easy task. As the main stage, on which all performances and the Parade of Nations (入场式) took place, it had to be strong, water-proof (不透水) and able to support heavy weights. What was more challenging, as the stadium is open-air, the ground screen had to be able to support the winter freezing temperature, as well as weather like rain and snow. To solve all the challenges, technicians built a special protective covering for it.
With the help of AI, 5G, AR and naked-eye 3D technologies from the company CALA, which once offered them to the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics opening ceremony, the ceremony presented many amazing moments. The most unforgettable moment is when the Olympic Rings were “carved (雕刻) out” of a 3D shaped like a block of ice on the screen. Another great point is that children sang and danced across the stage, when stars appeared on the screen under their feet.
Thanks to the screens, creative ideas and high technologies, the two-hour ceremony only needed around 3,000 excellent performers, compared with 15,000 during the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics opening ceremony. It greatly meets the theme of energy saving.
Thomas Bach, the president of IOC believed that the 2022 Olympic Winter Games would be “in safe hands” when Beijing won the right to host the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in 2015. The amazing ceremony showed the world that China has kept its promise of hosting a fantastic event with strong determination (决心) and confidence.
    51.The main stage is ________.
A.the largest vertical LED screen B.similar to “Zhong” in Chinese
C.covering the edge of the stadium D.about 10,552 meters in height
52.Technicians built a special protective covering for the ground screen because ________.
A.it had to be able to support the freezing temperature, rain and snow
B.it had to be allowed the audience to have a wonderful experience.
C.it was designed to be like a huge Chinese character “Zhong”
D.it was actually made up of about 42,000 small LED units
53.The underlined word “them” refers to ________.
A.the technologies the ceremony used B.the moments the ceremony presented
C.the screens that were served for the kids D.the rings that were “carved out” of the ice
54.What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A.Excellent performers played quite an important role in energy saving.
B.Bach promised the Games would be safe when Beijing made the right.
C.China made a great effort to achieve a victory of the opening ceremony.
D.The ceremony was such a creative one that more performers attended it.
55.What’s the main idea of the passage?
A.The high technology opens up a new field in China.
B.The LED screen brings a big surprise for the world.
C.The opening ceremony is a difficult task for Olympics.
D.The 2022 Winter Olympics presents amazing memories.

Have you ever wondered if you see the same colors as other people? Most people know what blue is when they see it. They see the color and call it “blue” because they were taught the word and connected it with what they saw. But how do you know what you see as blue isn’t someone else’s red?
The ability to see colors depends on receptors (感受器) in our eyes. Light waves hit these receptors which will send information to the brain. The brain then deals with the information to make sure which color light the eyes are receiving. Some people’s receptors are more developed than others. People with weaker receptors usually have color blindness. That the receptor can’t translate the light waves correctly means some people cannot tell different shades of a color.
In the past, most scientists argued that everyone saw colors in the same way. However, research was done on monkeys, in which they were injected (注射) with a virus to influence their receptors. This made them understand more about colors than usual and brought an interesting discovery. Normally, monkeys can only see blue and green, but the virus allowed monkeys to see red. Their brains were made to be able to understand new colors, which might mean the brains are not instinctive (本能的) to understand which color is which. This shows that our brains may get used to new information depending on what they receive during the development. Color could be a very personal experience to everyone.
So, the next time you talk about your favorite color, just remember if yours is blue and your friend says red, you might actually be thinking about the same color. What if everyone in the world has the same favorite color, but just calls it different names.
46.Which is TRUE about people who have color blindness from paragraph 2?
A.They cannot see light at all. B.They have developed receptors.
C.They can’t tell colors correctly. D.They can’t see any colors.
47.What does the underlined word “them” refer to in paragraph 3?
    A.Scientists B.Receptors C.Monkeys D.Brains

A.Monkeys can only see two colors at any time.
B.Our brains can understand colors instinctively.
C.Everyone has the same experience about a color.
D.The same color might be given different names.
49.What’s the passage mainly about ?
A.It tells people that different colors have different names.
B.People call a color blue because that’s how they were taught.
C.It mainly explains why people see the same color differently.
D.One’s favorite color is different from that of another one’s.

For a long time being, happy was considered something that just happened, and there was nothing special about it. Now we know that getting along with other people is something that we can work at. It is possible to act in such a way that other people will like us better. One way is being unselfish, not wanting everything from our friends. Another way is to look for good points, not bad ones in other people. It is surprising how successful this treasure (珍宝) hunt can be.
You don’t have to be spineless (没有骨气的) in order to be popular. In fact, you will be liked and respected if you are not afraid to stand up for your rights. But do it politely and pleasantly. Being friendly and polite to your group, to other people and to strangers and especially to those who do not look important or do not interest you is one way to develop a good character.
You can not expect to be perfect, and you must learn not to be unhappy when you make mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes, and no one is to be blamed (责备) unless he refuses to learn from them. Many young people become discouraged when they know in themselves qualities that they do not like-selfishness, laziness, and other unpleasant qualities. Just remember that we all have some of these faults and have to fight against them.
At the same time, it is important to remember that, while you are probably no worse than others, the best way to be happy is to think yourself above other people. When something is wrong, it is good sense to try to make it right. Perhaps you don’t like a teacher or a classmate. Try to see why and look at yourself, too, to be sure that you are not doing anything to make that person dislikes you. Some day, things may turn out all right and then you will have to learn to get along the best with situation, without thinking too much about it. Worrying never helps in a situation you can’t change.
