M: But putting dogs into a school? Aren’t they going to mess up the school?
W: Don’t worry. All the dogs are assessed and trained properly. There are now 40 dogs working with children aged from 6 to 18.

But the hardest part for me is that I got an injury, an injury which may take me out for years. For a period of time, as a young athlete, I didn’t know what to do. I lost focus. But now, I’m back on the track. I really want to be there at the Olympics and do what I did before. Do much, much greater. I don’t care about the gold, I don’t care about the silver. (2021·全国乙卷)I have worked as a keeper at the National Zoo, Paris for 11 years. Spot and Stripe are the first tiger cubs that have ever been born here. Globally, a third of Sumatran cubs in zoos don't make it to adulthood, so I decided to give them round-the-clock care at home.
I've got two children—the younger one, Kynan, was extremely happy about the tigers arriving - but all of us really looked forward to being part of their lives and watching them grow. I wasn't worried about bringing them into my home with my wife and kids. These were cubs. They weighed about 2.5 kg and were so small that there was absolutely no risk.
As they grew more mobile, we let them move freely around the house during the day, but when we were asleep we had to contain them in a large room, otherwise they'd get up to mischief. We'd come down in the morning to find they'd turned the room upside down, and left it looking like a zoo.
Things quickly got very intense due to the huge amount of energy required to look after them. There were some tough times and I just felt extremely tired. I was grateful that my family was there to help. We had to have a bit of a production line going, making up “tiger milk”, washing baby bottles, and cleaning the floors.
When Spot and Stripe were four months old, they were learning how to open doors and jump fences, and we knew it really was time for them to go. It was hard for us to finally part with them. For the first few days, Kynan was always a bit disappointed that the cubs weren't there.
I'm not sad about it. I'm hands-on with them every day at the zoo, and I do look back very fondly on the time that we had them.
24.Why did the author bring the tiger cubs home?
A.To ensure their survival. B.To observe their differences.
C.To teach them life skills. D.To let them play with his kids.
25.What do the underlined words “get up to mischief” mean in paragraph 3?
A.Behave badly. B.Lose their way. C.Sleep soundly. D.Miss their mom.
26.What did the author think of raising the tiger cubs at home?
A.Boring. B.Tiring. C.Costly. D.Risky.
27.Why did the author decide to send Spot and Stripe back to the zoo?
A.They frightened the children. B.They became difficult to contain.
C.They annoyed the neighbours. D.They started fighting each other.
【答案】24.A 25.A 26.B 27.B
根据第一段中“Globally, a third of Sumatran cubs in zoos don't make it to adulthood, so I decided to give them round-the-clock care at home. 故选A。
根据画线词上文“As they grew more mobile, we let them move freely around the house during the day, but when we were asleep we had to contain them in a large room, otherwise they'd ”(随着它们的活动越来越多,我们白天让它们在房子里自由活动,但当我们睡觉时,我们必须把它们关在一个大房间里,否则它们会)以及后文“We'd come down in the morning to find they'd turned the room upside down, and left it looking like a zoo.”(我们早上下楼时发现他们把房间弄得乱七八糟,让它看起来像个动物园。) 故选A。
根据倒数第三段中“Things quickly got very intense due to the huge amount of energy required to look after them. There were some tough times and I just felt extremely tired.(由于需要大量的精力来照顾它们,事情很快变得非常紧张。
根据倒数第二段中“When Spot and Stripe were four months old, they were learning how to open doors and jump fences, and we knew it really was time for them to go.(当Spot和Stripe四个月大的时候,他们正在学习如何开门和跳栅栏,我们知道是时候让他们离开了)”可知,作者决定把Spot 和Stripe送回动物园是因为他们变得难以控制。故选B。
C
(2020·全国·高考真题)We are the products of evolution, and not just evolution that occurred billions of years ago. As scientists look deeper into our genes (基因), they are finding examples of human evolution in just the past few thousand years. People in Ethiopian highlands have adapted to living at high altitudes. Cattle -raising people in East Africa and northern Europe have gained a mutation (突变) that helps them digest milk as adults.
On Thursday in an article published in Cell, a team of researchers reported a new kind of adaptation - not to air or to food, but to the ocean. A group of sea-dwelling people in Southeast Asia have evolved into better divers. The Bajau, as these people are known, number in the hundreds of thousands in Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines. They have traditionally lived on houseboats; in recent times, they’ve also built houses on stilts (支柱) in coastal waters. “They are simply a stranger to the land,” said Redney C.Jubilado, a University of Hawaii researcher who studies the Bajau.
Dr. Jubilado first met the Bajau while growing up on Samal Island in the Philippines. They made a living as divers, spearfishing or harvesting shellfish. “We were so amazed that they could stay underwater much longer than us local islanders,” Dr. Jubilado said. “I could see them actually walking under the sea.”
In2015, Melissa Ilardo, then a graduate student in genetics at the University of Copenhagen, heard about the Bajau. She wondered if centuries of diving could have led to the evolution of physical characteristics that made the task easier for them. “it seemed like the perfect chance for natural selection to act on a population,” said Dr. Ilardo. She also said there were likely a number of other genes that help the Bajau dive.
28.What does the author want to tell us by the examples in paragraph 1?
A.Environmental adaptation of cattle raisers. B.New knowledge of human evolution.
C.Recent findings of human origin. D.Significance of food selection.
29.Where do the Bajau build their houses?
A.In valleys. B.Near rivers. C.On the beach. D.Off the coast.
30.Why was the young Jubilado astonished at the Bajau?
A.They could walk on stilts all day. B.They had a superb way of fishing.
C.They could stay long underwater. D.They lived on both land and water.
31.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Bodies Remodeled for a Life at Sea B.Highlanders’ Survival Skills
C.Basic Methods of Genetic Research D.The World’s Best Divers
【答案】28.B 29.D 30.C 31.A
根据第一段的we are the products of evolution, and not just evolution that occurred billions of years ago. As scientists look deeper into our genes, they are finding examples of human evolution in just the past few thousand years.(我们是进化的产物,而且不仅仅是数十亿年前的产物。 B. New knowledge of human evolution.(人类进化的新知识)符合以上说法,故选B项。
The Bajau, as these people are known, number in hundreds of thousands in Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines. They have traditionally live on houseboats; in recent times, they've also built houses on stilts in coastal waters.(这些人被称为Bajau,在印度尼西亚、马来西亚和菲律宾有数十万人。 D. Off the coast.(沿海)符合以上说法,故选D项。
根据第三段的we were so amazed that they could stay underwater much longer than us local islanders.(我们很惊讶,他们在水下待的时间比我们当地的岛民要长的多)可知,让Jubilado感到吃惊的是Bajau人能在水下待更长的时间。C. They could stay long underwater.
On Thursday in an article published in Cell, a team of researchers reported a new kind of adaption-not to air or to food, but to the ocean.(周四,在《细胞》杂志上发表的一篇文章中,一群研究人员报道了一种新的适应——不是空气也不是食物,而是海洋)可知,本文主要讲述了一种新的进化,即长期生活在海边,靠海为生的生活方式,让Bajau人的身体进化成更适应海洋生活。A. Bodies Remodeled for a Life at Sea.(身体为适应海洋生活而重塑)可以作为本文标题,故选A项。

(2022·全国·高考真题)Sometime in the early 1960s, a significant thing happened in Sydney, Australia. The city discovered its harbor. Then, one after another, Sydney discovered lots of things that were just sort of there — broad parks, superb beaches, and a culturally diverse population. But it is the harbor that makes the city.
Andrew Reynolds, a cheerful fellow in his early 30s, pilots Sydney ferryboats for a living. I spent the whole morning shuttling back and forth across the harbor. After our third run Andrew shut down the engine, and we went our separate ways — he for a lunch break, I to explore the city.
“I’ll miss these old boats,” he said as we parted.
“How do you mean?” I asked.
“Oh, they’re replacing them with catamarans. Catamarans are faster, but they’re not so elegant, and they’re not fun to pilot. But that’s progress, I guess.”
Everywhere in Sydney these days, change and progress are the watchwords (口号), and traditions are increasingly rare. Shirley Fitzgerald, the city’s official historian, told me that in its rush to modernity in the 1970s, Sydney swept aside much of its past, including many of its finest buildings. “Sydney is confused about itself,” she said. “We can’t seem to make up our minds whether we want a modern city or a traditional one. It’s a conflict that we aren’t getting any better at resolving (解决).”
On the other hand, being young and old at the same time has its attractions. I considered this when I met a thoughtful young businessman named Anthony. “Many people say that we lack culture in this country,” he told me. “What people forget is that the Italians, when they came to Australia, brought 2000 years of their culture, the Greeks some 3000 years, and the Chinese more still. We’ve got a foundation built on ancient cultures but with a drive and dynamism of a young country. It’s a pretty hard combination to beat.”
He is right, but I can’t help wishing they would keep those old ferries.
32.What is the first paragraph mainly about?
A.Sydney’s striking architecture. B.The cultural diversity of Sydney.
C.The key to Sydney’s development. D.Sydney’s tourist attractions in the 1960s.
33.What can we learn about Andrew Reynolds?
A.He goes to work by boat. B.He looks forward to a new life.
C.He pilots catamarans well. D.He is attached to the old ferries.
34.What does Shirley Fitzgerald think of Sydney?
A.It is losing its traditions. B.It should speed up its progress.
C.It should expand its population. D.It is becoming more international.
35.Which statement will the author probably agree with?
A.A city can be young and old at the same time.
B.A city built on ancient cultures is more dynamic.
C.Modernity is usually achieved at the cost of elegance.
D.Compromise should be made between the local and the foreign.
【答案】32.C 33.D 34.A 35.A

故填or。
故填which/that。
故填are called。
Most of it is stored away or used for research. 故填is。
故填for。

Last week our teacher asked us to fill in a questionnaire. One of the questions are:Who will you go in times of trouble? Here are the results. Many students say they will talk to their friend or classmates because they’re of the same age and can understand each other. Some will turn out to their parents or teachers for help. Only a little choose to deal with the problems on our own. Their answers also show that they dislike talk to others. They kept very much to themselves. In my opinion, where in trouble, we should seek help from those we trust mostly.
1.are→is
2.go后加to
3.friend→friends
5.little→few
6.our→their
7.talk→talking
8.kept→keep
9.where→when/whenever
10.mostly→most
故are改为is。
短语go to sb.“求助于某人”,相当于短语turn to sb. for help。故在go后加to。
固定短语turn to sb. for help,意为“向某人求助”,所以此处删除介词out。
结合上文“Many students”以及“Some will turn out to their parents or teachers for help.” 故little改为few。
故our改为their。
主句为“we should seek help from those we trust mostly”,从句表示的含义为无论什么时候我们有麻烦或者当我们有麻烦时,所以应用when/whenever引导时间状语从句。故where改为when/whenever。
故mostly改为most。
