A thirsty crow (乌鸦) comes across (偶然遇到) a bottle of water, but the water level is out of its reach. The bird then drops some stones into it and gets the water.
“It’s just a story,” you may think. But new research has found that crows’ brains may sometimes be better than those of 6-year-old children.
In a recent experiment, American scientist Corina Logan and her team caught six crows to test them. The crows and children had to choose between two sets of tubes (试管). They had to drop stones in and get water.
With the red set, when they dropped a stone into a wide tube, the water level raised in a connected narrow tube. The blue set of tubes, however, had no connection between them.
Children aged 7 to 10 were able to learn the rule. Children aged 4-6, however, failed. Five of the six crows failed the test. But Kitty, a 6-month-old crow, passed it. She put most of the stones into the red tubes.
So, could a bird be more clever than a kindergartner? Don’t be too quick to say no.

The traditional Chinese calendar divides the year into 24 solar terms. In China, the 24 solar terms were created thousands of years ago to guide agricultural (农业的) production. But solar term culture is still useful today to guide people’s lives through cultural activities.
Great Heat, the 12th solar term of year, began this year on July 22 and ended on August 6. During Great Heat, most parts of China enter the hottest season of the year. Here is something you should know about Great Heat.
Great Heat is a season of harvesting (收割). During this time, the sunshine, high temperatures, and heavy rainfall are good for the plants. But many natural disasters also happen. So, it’s important to harvest and plant in time.
Sending the Great Heat ship is a tradition in Taizhou. The ship is full of all kinds of meat. More than 50 fishermen take turns carrying the ship as they walk through the streets. The ship will finally be pulled out of the port and burned at sea. People believe that is a symbol of good harvests and health.
Great Heat is a season with most crickets (蝶蜂) in the countryside. Cricket fighting is a popular game for some people in China during this period. The custom dates back over 1,000 years ago.
People in different places enjoy different food. For example, in southern Shandong, people would like to drink mutton soup. Grass jelly is very popular in Guangdong because there is a saying “Eating grass jelly in Great Heat will make you stay young”.

You visit a park one day and someone nearly crashes into you while riding their bike. You feel like you’ve experienced this particular(特定的)event before. Has this happened to you? This strange feeling is actually quite common. In psychology(心理学), it is known as “Déjà vu(似曾相识的感觉).”
How can we explain this phenomenon(现象)? Scientists have tried to use virtual reality technology to reproduce it. In one study, scientists used the video game The Sims to study déjà vu. For example, they replaced the bushes in the game’s virtual garden with trash cans. When players looked at the garden, they experienced a sense of Déjà vu.
Scientists think deja vu might be explained as a simple failure of memory. We see something that looks similar to something we’ve seen before, but our brains fail to find the exact memory. However, the brain still recognizes the similarity, leaving us with a sense of familiarity (熟悉感).
Epilepsy (癫痫),a brain disease that can cause seizures (突然发作), is believed to be an extreme example of Déjà vu.People with epilepsy often experience unusual feelings similar to Déjà vu.
Should we be worried when we experience deja vu? As long as it doesn’t affect your daily life, researchers think there is no need to worry. In fact, some scientists believe that it may be helpful. They believe Déjà vu might be caused by the brain rearranging(重新组织) misplaced memories. This could show that our memories are working well.
This theory also explains why younger people are more likely to experience it, as their brains are still growing.
61. “Déjà vu” refers to ______.
A.a common feeling of strangeness
B.a sense of familiarity in a new situation
C.a phenomenon that happens during sleep
D.a phenomenon that happens more than once

B.It happens when our memories fail.
C.It shows that our brains are in good shape.
