For years I have had no idea what I have been doing with my life. I was a 30-year-old lawyer in New York. But being a lawyer is never my dream or goal in life. I honestly wanted to be a writer. I have a good imagination and would write amazing stories in my mind. But I always knew that being a writer was never possible for me because it was a better financial decision to stay a lawyer.
Recently, I couldn’t fall asleep at my usual time of 10 p.m. and when I did fall asleep I had the same dream over and over again. The dream starts with my trying to go for a swim in the ocean and searching for something, but then in the dream I start to drown and have no control over my body. Then a light shines through the water and when I look up all I can see is myself in a bright white room writing a novel. Then I hear a voice say repeatedly, “Now it is time to try something new!”
It wasn’t just a dream;it was my opportunity to make something good out of my life. That afternoon, I quit my job at the law firm and I couldn’t have been any happier. My life started at 30, and since that point I haven’t stopped enjoying life. I started to write and have been on the best-seller list for the last two months. Things have definitely turned around.
Change is a good thing; it gives us an opportunity to take a chance. So my two favorite words I live by and so should you are “change” and “chance”.

26.The underlined part in the third paragraph probably means the author .
A.regretted having quit his job as a lawyer
B.was unhappy after giving up his job as a lawyer
C.was upset because he had to give up his job as a lawyer
D.was pretty happy after he quit his job as a lawyer
27.What’s the best title of the text?

Before the end of the year, employees at Ubiquitous Energy, a company in Redwood City, Calif, will gather in a window-lined conference room to stare toward the future. That’s because their new glass windows will offer more than an amazing view of the North California landscape. They will also be able to power the company’s lights, computers and air conditioners.
Several years in the making, Ubiquitous’ energy-producing glass is a remarkable technological achievement. Its power lies in the layers of organic polymers (聚合物) between sheets of glass. As light enters the window, the flow of electrons between the polymer layers creates an electric current, which is then collected by tiny wires in the glass.
“It’s sort of like a transparent computer display run in reverse (反过来),” says Veeral Hardev, director of business development at Ubiquitous Energy. “Instead of electricity being shuttled to different points in a display to light them up, light is producing electricity to be shuttled out of different points in the window.”
Right now the windows produce about a third as much electricity from a given amount of sunlight as the typical solar cells used in roof panels (板).These windows, about half as transparent as ordinary glass, don’t work as well as transparent ones. Hardev says the company is likely to improve the transparency significantly. As for the lower output of electricity, he notes that windows can cover a much greater surface area than a roof, so numerous windows will produce a surprisingly larger amount of electricity than the production from a rooftop full of higher-efficiency solar panels. “You could do both.” says Hardev. “But you’ll get more from the windows. The biggest challenge, he adds, is increasing the windows from less than two square feet currently to about 50 square feet.”
28.What makes the new glass windows special?
A.They can offer an amazing view. B.They are controlled by computers.
C.They can power the conference room. D.They can help stare toward the future.
29.What is Hardev trying to explain in Paragraph 3?
A.The source of light.
B.The significance of different points.
C.The similarity of computer and glass.
D.The working principle of energy-producing glass.
30.What can affect power production according to the passage?
A.The transparency of the glass. B.The quality of the rooftop.
C.The height of the solar panels. D.The thickness of the glass.
31.Which of the following is the best title for the passage?
A.Windows: A New Challenge of Technology
B.Windows: No Longer Just for Letting in the Light
C.Power: A Pressing Problem in the Near Future
D.Power: Not Enough from Rooftop Solar Panels

Chocolate could soon be a thing of the past after scientists’ warning that the cacao (可可) plant, from which chocolate is made, could be extinct within 32 years.
Over half of the world’s chocolate comes from just two countries in West Africa — Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana — where the temperature, rain, and humidity (湿度) provide the perfect conditions for cacao to grow. But rising temperatures over the next three decades caused by climate change are expected to result in a loss of water from the ground, which scientists say could upset this balance.
According to the related data, a temperature rise of just 2.1℃ could put an end to the chocolate industry worldwide by 2050. Farmers in the region are already considering moving cacao production areas thousands of feet uphill into mountainous areas — many of which are currently preserved for wildlife. But this move could destroy the ecosystems that are already under threat from illegal farming and deforestation.
One of the problems, according to Doug Hawkins, is that cacao farming methods have not changed for hundreds of years. “Unlike other tree crops that have benefited from the development of modern, high yielding strains and crop management techniques to realize their genetic potential, more than 90% of the global cacao crop is produced by small farms with unimproved planting materials,” he said. “It means that we could be facing a chocolate decrease of 100,000 tons a year in the next few years.”
Now scientists at the University of California, Berkeley have cooperated with American candy company Mars to keep chocolate on the menu. Using the controversial gene-editing technology known as CRISPR they are trying to develop a type of cacao plant capable of surviving in dryer, warmer climates. If the team’s work on the cacao plant is successful, it could remove the need for farmers in West Africa to relocate to higher ground, and perhaps even allow cacao to be grown elsewhere in the world.
32.What do we know about chocolate from the text?
A.Chocolate will disappear from the menu 30 years later.
B.Chocolate is mainly produced by African countries.
C.Chocolate will not be produced by 2050 because of climate change.
D.A new type of chocolate will be produced with the help of CRISPR.
33.What is the reason for the probable extinction of the cacao plant?
A.The damaged ecosystems.
B.Water shortage caused by climate change.
C.The threat from illegal farming and deforestation.
D.The changeable farming method.
34.What is the writer’s attitude to the application of CRISPR to develop a new type of cacao plant?
A.Ambiguous. B.Unconcerned. C.Supportive. D.Negative.
35.Where does the passage probably come from?
A.A poster. B.A leaflet. C.An advertisement. D.A magazine.

Bobby was getting cold sitting out in his backyard in the snow. Bobby didn’t wear boots; or rather, he didn’t own any. The thin sneakers he wore had a few holes in them and they did a poor job of keeping out the cold.
Bobby had been in his backyard for about an hour already. Try as he might, he could not come up with an idea for his mother’s Christmas gift. He shook his head as he thought, “This is useless. Even if I do come up with an idea, I don’t have any money for a gift.”
Wiping tears from his eyes, Bobby started walking down to the street where the shops were. It wasn’t easy being six without a father, especially when he needed a man to talk to.
Bobby walked from shop to shop, looking into each decorated window. Everything seemed so beautiful but so out of reach. It was starting to get dark and Bobby reluctantly turned to walk home when suddenly his eyes caught the glimmer (微光) of the setting sun’s rays reflecting on something on the roadside. He reached down and discovered a shiny dime
Never before has anyone felt as wealthy as Bobby did at that moment. As he held his newly- found treasure, warmth spread throughout his entire body and he walked into the first store. His excitement quickly turned cold when salesperson after salesperson told him that he could not buy anything with only a dime.
He saw a flower shop and went inside to wait in line. When the shop owner asked if he could help him, Bobby presented the dime and asked if he could buy one flower for his mother’s Christmas gift. The shop owner looked at Bobby and his ten-cent offering. Then he put his hand on Bobby’s shoulder, saying, “You just wait here and I’ll see what I can do for you.”
The sound of the door closing as the last customer left pulled Bobby back to reality. All alone in the shop, Bobby began to feel alone and afraid.

What Can We Do for the Environment in Our School
Hello, everyone.
Recently, I find that there are some problems in our school. For example, more and more students don't care about the environment so they throw plastic bags everywhere. It is convenient for them to put rubbish in the garbage bin. But they don't do as they should do. What's worse, they always trample on the lawn loosely and carelessly.
We should create a healthy, harmonious, stimulating environment, so that the students in the good environment are influenced by the environment. On the other hand, we should help establish correct world outlook on life and values, so that everyone can volunteer to protect the environment.
I call on students to jointly protect the environment.
Thank you for your listening.
Paragraph 1:
Eventually the shop owner came out and moved to the counter. There, before Bobby's eyes, lay twelve red roses, with leaves of green and tiny white flowers all tied together with a big silver tape. Bobby's heart sank as the owner placed them gently into a long white box. "That will be ten cents, young man." the shop owner said, reaching out his hand for the dime. Slowly, Bobby moved his hand to give the man his dime. Could this be true? He wondered.
Paragraph 2:
With the bunch of beautiful roses in his hands, Bobby backed off and then turned and ran. Within minutes, he was at home, still breathless. “Look, Mother, what have I got for you?” Bobby called out in the backyard. Mother came out from inside the house. She could hardly believe her eyes upon seeing the beautiful flowers in front of her. “Merry Christmas!” Bobby said and began to tell her everything he had experienced in the flower shop. Tearfully, Mother hugged her son in her arms. Standing in the bitter cold air, they somehow didn't feel cold at all.

根据Camp Rockmont部分中“Camp Rockmont is a Christian summer camp for boys, aged 6-16, in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina.(罗克蒙特夏令营是一个针对6到16岁男孩的基督教夏令营,位于北卡罗来纳州的蓝岭山脉)”可知,该活动是一个宗教夏令营。故选C。
根据第一段中“Your children are precious so we offer the highest quality of camps that will meet each child’s interests in challenging and exciting camp activities.(您的孩子是宝贵的,所以我们提供最高质量的营地,将满足每个孩子的兴趣,具有挑战性和令人兴奋的营地活动)”可推知,本文的目标读者为家长。故选D。
根据第一段中“All the camps feature outdoor recreation and adventure, which make sure the activities are fun, engaging and meaningful.(所有营地都设有户外娱乐和冒险活动,确保活动有趣、吸引人且有意义)”可知,共同点是每个营地都为营员提供冒险活动。故选A。

根据第一段中“But I always knew that being a writer was never possible for me because it was a better financial decision to stay a lawyer.(但我一直知道,成为一名作家对我来说是永远不可能的,因为从经济角度来说,继续做律师是一个更好的决定)”可知,律师比作家挣得多。故选C。
根据第二段中“Recently, I couldn’t fall asleep at my usual time of 10 p.m. and when I did fall asleep I had the same dream over and over again. The dream starts with my trying to go for a swim in the ocean and searching for something, but then in the dream I start to drown and have no control over my body. Then a light shines through the water and when I look up all I can see is myself in a bright white room writing a novel. Then I hear a voice say repeatedly, “Now it is time to try something new!”(最近,我无法在晚上10点的正常时间入睡,当我睡着时,我一遍又一遍地做着同样的梦。梦开始时,我试图在海里游泳,寻找什么东西,但在梦里,我开始溺水,无法控制我的身体。然后,一束光透过水面照了进来,当我抬起头时,我只能看到自己在明亮的白色房间里写小说。然后我听到一个声音反复说:“现在是时候尝试一些新东西了!”)”可知,第二段主要通过梦境讲述作者成为作家的强烈愿望。故选B。
26.推理判断题。根据画线部分后面的“My life started at 30, and since that point I haven’t stopped enjoying life.(我的人生始于30岁,从那时起,我就没有停止过享受生活)”可知,作者辞去律师的工作后非常高兴。故选D。
根据最后一段“Change is a good thing; it gives us an opportunity to take a chance. So my two favorite words I live by and so should you are “change” and “chance”.(改变是一件好事;这给了我们一个冒险的机会。

They will also be able to power the company’s lights, computers and air conditioners.
根据第三段中的“It’s sort of like a transparent computer display run in reverse (反过来),” says Veeral Hardev, director of business development at Ubiquitous Energy. “Instead of electricity being shuttled to different points in a display to light them up, light is producing electricity to be shuttled out of different points in the window. ”可知,“这有点像一台反向运行的透明电脑显示器,”Ubiquitous Energy的业务开发主管维洛拉•哈德夫表示。他说:“不是把电传送到显示器的不同点来点亮它们,而是把产生的电从窗口的不同点传送出去。”由此可知,哈德夫在第三段中想要解释的是产生电能的新玻璃窗的工作原理。故选D。
30.推理判断题。根据第四段中的These windows, about half as transparent as ordinary glass, don’t work as well as transparent ones. Hardev says the company is likely to improve the transparency significantly. 故选A。
Windows: No Longer Just for Letting in the Light(窗户:不再只是为了让光线进来)符合文章内容,可以作为最佳标题。

根据第二段“Over half of the world’s chocolate comes from just two countries in West Africa — Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana — where the temperature, rain, and humidity (湿度) provide the perfect conditions for cacao to grow.(世界上一半的巧克力来自西非的两个国家——科特迪瓦和加纳,那里的温度、雨水和湿度为可可种植提供了完美的条件)”可知,世界上一半以上的巧克力来自西非的科特迪瓦和加纳这两个国家,因此巧克力主要由非洲国家生产。故选B。
根据第二段“But rising temperatures over the next three decades caused by climate change are expected to result in a loss of water from the ground, which scientists say could upset this balance.(但是由气候变化引起的未来30年的气温上升,预计将导致地下水的流失,科学家说,这可能打破这种平衡)”可知,未来30年,预计气候变化造成的气温上升将导致地面失水,这可能会破坏可可树生长环境的平衡。再结合第三段“According to the related data, a temperature rise of just 2.1℃ could spell an end for the chocolate industry worldwide by 2050.(根据相关数据,温度上升2.1摄氏度可能意味着到2050年全球巧克力工业的终结)”可知,可可树灭绝的原因很可能是气候变化引起的缺水。故选B。
根据文章最后一句“If the team’s work on the cacao plant is successful, it could remove the need for farmers in West Africa to relocate to higher ground, and perhaps even allow cacao to be grown elsewhere in the world.(如果研究小组在可可树上的工作成功的话,西非的农民就不需要搬迁到更高的地方,甚至可以在世界其他地方种植可可树)”可知,如果该项目取得成功,西非农民就不用搬迁到高地了,甚至可能允许可可树在世界其他地方种植。
根据第一段“Chocolate could soon be a thing of the past after scientists’ warning that the cacao (可可) plant, from which chocolate is made, could be extinct within 32 years.(巧克力可能很快就会成为过去,因为科学家警告说,制造巧克力的可可植物,可能在32年内灭绝)”可知,本文主要讲述科学家对制造巧克力的可可植物的未来发展的预测,所以本文与科学研究和环境有关。

36.根据上文“Plastic has been found virtually in everything these days. Your food is packaged in it. Your car, phone and computer are made from it.(如今,塑料几乎无处不在。你的食物是用它包装的。你的汽车、手机和电脑都是用它制造的)”本段意在说明塑料在日常生活中随处可见,并举出了食品包装等例子。据此可判断空处应该与前几句是并列或递进关系,也是说塑料的存在形式,F项提到一种塑料的形式,即口香糖,符合文意,故F选项“你甚至可以每天以嚼口香糖的形式嚼塑料”符合语境,故选F。
37.根据后文内容“One of the easiest ways to keep plastic out of the landfill is to refuse plastic straws. Simply inform your waiter or waitress that you don’t need one, and be sure to state this clearly when ordering at a drive-through. Can’t stand giving up the convenience of plastic straws?(让塑料远离垃圾填埋场最简单的方法之一就是拒绝使用塑料吸管。简单地告诉你的服务员你不需要,并确保在点餐时清楚地说明这一点。拒绝不了吸管带来的便利?)” 可知,此处为该段的小标题。由全段内容可知,这里讲的是塑料吸管(plastic straws)的问题。故A选项“对塑料吸管说不”符合语境,故选A。
38.根据上文“Can’t stand giving up the convenience of plastic straws?(拒绝不了吸管带来的便利?)”以及后文“Restaurant workers will be less likely to bring you a plastic one if they see that you’ve brought your own.(如果餐厅工作人员看到你带了自己的(吸管),他们就不太可能会给你一根塑料吸管)”可知,本句是建议读者自己带可重复使用的吸管,故G选项“购买可重复使用的不锈钢或玻璃吸管”符合语境,故选G。
39.根据小标题“Use reusable bags(使用能重复使用的袋子)”以及上文“However, you should avoid those bags made from nylon or polyester (聚酯纤维).(然而,不要使用尼龙或聚酯纤维材质的袋子)”可知,本句要讲提倡使用的袋子材质,故B选项“选择棉质的”符合语境,故选B。
