Many of us have the attitude that “we will put the information out there, and if they don’t get it, they are to blame.”Several years ago, I had a student named Jeremy in 12th - grade English, in which British literature was taught. I struggled to find ways to make the content interesting. Jeremy didn’t care. Though Jeremy was classified as. gifted, he slept in class every day. I began to get really frustrated. I even began to dislike him. High school teachers sometimes develop a hands-off attitude. I thought, “OK, Jeremy, if you want to fail my class, fine. I’ve tried everything.” As time went on, I ignored Jeremy. I didn’t ask him questions, or even make eye contact with him. By accident, I found that Jeremy was capable of much more. One day, I went to the broadcasting classroom to edit a video. On this day, several students were working on an assignment. Then I heard a voice I recognized. I looked up and saw Jeremy was teaching his classmates energetically how to film. My first thought was that Jeremy must have a twin! Suddenly he realized I was sitting in the corner. Our eyes met. “Mrs. Duff?” he asked with surprise. “You know how to edit video?”“Yes. I had no idea you were a videographer!” At this, he smiled with pride and explained the project his group was working on. It was clear he had earned his classmates’ respect. And it was suddenly clear to me that I had not really made an effort to know Jeremy at all. What happened next was amazing. In class, Jeremy stayed awake and completed his work. He passed my class with a B.What happened? When Jeremy encountered me outside English class, it changed his perspective of me. He realized I wasn’t just some odd lady trying to force him to learn British poetry. Equally important, my perspective about him changed. He wasn’t just the kid who slept in my class. I’m not proud that I didn’t make a better effort to know Jeremy before the encounter in the broadcast room. I told myself I had tried everything, but I had not stepped outside of my little English world at all.24.What’s the purpose of paragraph 1?A.To draw readers’ interest. B.To introduce the author’s idea.C.To remind teachers of teaching traps. D.To ask students to shift learning focus.25.What did the author do when Jeremy showed lasting boredom in her class?A.She blamed herself. B.She gave up on him.C.She kept on persuading him. D.She made teaching more interesting.26.How did the author feel when she saw Jeremy as a videographer?A.Proud. B.Relaxed.C.Regretful. D.Rewarded.27.What does the author intend to tell us?A.Why to build a common perspective.B.How to transform a student’s negative behavior.C.Teachers should reach students in individual ways.D.Students will eventually connect with their teachers.CYou’ve heard an old Chinese saying before: Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. You may even be nodding your head in agreement right now. However, we can have a different understanding about it.When a person is starving, that’s not the time to fill their head with knowledge but to first give the person a fish-eradicating their hunger-and only then teach them to fish. Far too often, people ignore this common sense first step. They see someone who is struggling, and they rush to offer wisdom. “Let me tell you what I’d do in your position,” a well-meaning individual might offer. But few of us understand the anxiety, confusion and uncertainty that come with overwhelming need. People meeting with personal disasters don’t have the ability to think straight. Their nerves may be shot. Their confidence may be non-existent. Can you imagine what it would be like to be in that person’s situation?Rushing to offer a struggling person long-term advice is a waste of time. Instead, it makes far more sense to help them regain their emotional balance. Once their ears, heart and mind open, you’ll have an opportunity to teach a new skill. But how do we know whether a person needs a fish before a fishing lesson? Two things: One is the ability to pay attention. We need to know whether the other person is open and receptive, or looking at the world through narrowed eyes? You can’t just take their words but have to look at how the person acts and what they don’t say. The other is empathy (共情).The more successful you are, the harder it is to imagine what it must be like to be the opposite. Try to create a safe environment for emotional acceptance before the fishing lesson.28.What is the function of the first paragraph?A.To illustrate a concept. B.To bring in a new viewpoint.C.To introduce the background. D.To put up an example.29.What does the underlined word “eradicating” mean in paragraph 2?A.Getting rid of. B.Paying attention to.C.Making up for. D.Putting up with.30.What should we do first for those in disasters?A.Get them to think straight. B.Enhance their confidence.C.Satisfy their primary needs. D.Teach them a new skill.31.Which does the author probably agree with according to the last paragraph?A.Live and learn. B.Never teach a fish to swim.C.Put yourself in others’ shoes. D.Don’t teach old dogs new tricks.DIn a new study, Iowa Psychologist Ed Wasserman gave the pigeons complex categorization tests that high-level thinking would not aid in solving. Instead, the pigeons, by trial and error, eventually were able to memorize enough situations in the test. This basic process of making associations — considered a lower-level thinking technique — is the same between the test-taking pigeons and the latest AI advances. The researchers sought to figure out two types of learning: one declarative learning, is based on exercising reason according to a set of rules or strategies — a so-called higher level of learning owned mostly by people. The other, associative learning, centers on recognizing and making connections between objects or patterns, such as “sky-blue” and “water-wet. ”Wasserman’s team designed a difficult test to find out whether the pigeons use declarative or associative learning. Each test pigeon was shown a stimulus (刺激)and had to decide, by pecking (啄) a button on the right or on the left, to which category that stimulus belonged. What made the test so demanding was that no rules or logic would help finish the task. They have to memorize the individual stimuli or regions from where the stimuli occur. Over hundreds of tests, the four test pigeons eventually upped their score from 50% to an average of 68% right.“The pigeons are like AI masters” Wasserman says. “Both of them employ associative learning, and yet that base-level thinking is what allowed the pigeons to ultimately score successfully.” If people were to take the same test, they’d score poorly and would probably give up because they rely so heavily on rules or strategies. Those rules would get in the way of learning. The pigeon doesn’t have that high-level thinking process. But it doesn’t get in the way of their learning. In fact, in some ways it facilitates it.“People are stunned by AI doing amazing things using a learning algorithm (算法) much like the pigeon,” Wasserman says, “yet when people talk about associative learning in humans and animals, it is discounted as inflexible and uncomplicated. ”32.Which of the following is a typical example of associative learning ?A.Tom refuses to put hands on hot stoves after burns.B.Dolphins detect obstacles using sound waves.C.Chimpanzees use physical gesture strategies.D.Emily figures out math problems with logic.33.How did the pigeons improve their performance in the test?A.By pecking the stimuli.B.By finding rule or logic.C.By competing with each other.D.By making numerous attempts.34.What can we infer from the last paragraph?A.AI and man use the same learning pattern.B.Associative learning is underestimated.C.People think highly of declarative learning.D.Pigeons finish tasks with AI algorithms.35.Which can be a suitable title of the text?A.Pigeon’s Peck Can Mirror High TechB.AI Contributes to a New Learning PatternC.AI Can Enrich Human Learning ExperienceD.Pigeon’s Learning Largely Extends High Tech第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。Your Brain Was Made For WalkingIf a president, a legendary philosopher, and one of the bestselling authors of all time credited the same secret for their success, would you try to follow it too? Telling stories around a crowded table at holiday dinners, the smell of roasting vegetables, the sensation (感受) of heat coming from the kitchen, all picture a familiar feeling of love and comfort. My favourite memory of all is of my grandparents making and baking bread together. To this day, I have never tasted bread that is as delicious as theirs. No other loaf has ever been made with that kind of powerful, unconditional love. When our son Brian, one of seventh graders, began to refuse usual communication with me, I felt desperate. How I missed those lovely old days when he couldn’t wait to tell me his stories in kindergarten the moment I arrived home without getting changed! And there were also times when he brought loads of storybooks to me and demanded to be told all the stories before going to bed. But I didn’t know since when everything changed. There was hardly any sharing about his daily school life with friends or any trouble about his schoolwork. Most of the time, his bedroom door was closed. The cold silence between us seemed to warn me that love between us began to fade. At that time, like most mothers, I couldn’t focus on work and couldn’t sleep well. Why did things go off track so much? Was it because my work took away most of my energy that family love was taken for granted? Was it because my only precious spare time went too much to my two-year-old baby daughter that Brian’s need for my company was ignored? The more I reflected, the more I felt myself to blame and it was my responsibility to find a way out. One day, as my eyes landed onto the bread on the kitchen table, I was reminded of those sweet childhood memories, “Could food help us make a change?” I wondered. 注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。With an uneasy feeling, I decided to try. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________More than that, one weekend evening, Brian offered to help me in the kitchen. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
