I mean this quite literally. We had just completed a four-day hike in Maine that concluded by climbing Mount Katahdin. At its highest peak, Mount Katahdin has an extremely dramatic, mile-long ridge(山脊) known as the Knife Edge. It's scary and quite dangerous: The mountain has claimed at least 17 lives. We knew we had to be careful, but surprisingly, the danger was part of the attraction. Lucian and I were both longing for a bit of risk.    We proceeded along the ridge and Lucian moved with such agility and balance. Then suddenly, right in the center of the Knife Edge, we encountered a group of bushes. And that's when a killer bee stung(蜇伤) Lucian. Lucian was pale-faced, and he told me very calmly: "Dad, this is serious. I could die." If this were a novel, the perfectly timed disaster, and my son's calm yet serious remark would be cut by some clever editor. But this was not a novel. It was real life.    "What's your favorite video game?" I asked my son. He shot me a confused look. I pressed him, asking him again. Unwillingly, he began answering my question—or more accurately, he began asking me why I talked about video games at a moment like this. By the time he finished, a minute had passed. He showed no signs of having an allergic(过敏) reaction. I pointed this out to him. Another minute passed. And then, unexpectedly, we realized, he was totally fine.    When we returned home, Lucian and I both recounted our adventure—to my wife, his brother, and all the grandparents—until it quickly became a family tale. And it occurred to me that on some level, Lucian and I are both fond of exploring courageously. And this is how we found ourselves at the top of Mount Katahdin, crossing over the Knife Edge.4What did the author and his son do in Maine?A. They conducted research on the Knife Edge.B. They took a long and dangerous walk.C. They risked rescuing the trapped climbers.D. They participated in a climbing contest.5What happened to Lucian in the center of the Knife Edge?A. He lost his balance. B. His head got hit severely.C. He was attacked by a killer bee. D. His strength was used up.6How did the author's son react to the question about video games?A. He thought it inappropriate. B. He failed to answer it.C. He cared little about it. D. He spoke highly of it.7Which of the following can best describe the author's experience with his son?A. Easy and liberating. B. Hair-raising but fictional.C. Near-death and discouraging. D. Challenging but significant.    It never hurts to put something aside for a rainy day. And not just money can be put in a bank. Blood from donors is routinely banked, too. But three researchers at Harvard Medical School propose going further. They suggest people consider banking deposits of their faeces(粪便), although it still needs more scientific evidence to prove its safety.    Yang-Yu Liu, Shanlin Ke and Scott Weiss describe their proposal in Trends in Molecular Medicine. Modern life, they observe, is not kind to gut bacteria(肠道细菌). Terrible eating habits; frequent use of antibiotics; diet-changing travel; lack of sleep; even simply living longer; these all affect the complex intestines' ecosystems(肠道生态). That contributes to a range of illnesses, including Clostridioides difficile infections, irritable-bowel syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bowel disease, type 2 diabetes, asthma, cardiovascular problems and colorectal cancer.    One approach to dealing with some of these has been faecal transplantation. This take shealthy people's faeces and put them into the guts of suffering individuals. It is 80-90% successful at treating C. difficile infections, though only between a quarter and a half of those with IBS gain benefits. At least as interesting are animal studies that put the gut microbes of thin animals in those that are obese. This often causes the recipients(接受者)to lose weight, though it has not yet been tried in people.    Faecal transplanting is still in its early days. But faeces banks similar to blood bank snow exist in America, Britain, China, France and the Netherlands. As with blood transplants, donations from these need to be matched to a given recipient, otherwise a bad reaction, such as a new infection, may result. But unlike blood-group-matching, faecal matching still lacks scientific evidence.    Hence researchers suggest that people, when young and healthy, bank their own faeces for future use. They propose establishing facilities where faeces samples will be stored without going bad. Then, if a depositor(储户) needs it in later life, he or she can withdraw part of the account, and make the best of it.8According to the text, which does not influence the intestines' ecosystems?A. Banking faeces.  B. Old age. C. Less sleep. D. Overseas trips.9About faecal transplants, which of the following statements is true?A. Of the participants with IBS, only 80-90% recover.B. Gut microbes will help overweight ones lose weight.C. Only five countries have faecal banks now.D. Faecal transplants have been put into wide use.10What might be talked about in the paragraph that follows?A. Faucal transplants' difference from other transplants.B. The risks faucal transplants might bring about.C. Further researches into human immune systems.D. Successful application in treating difficile infections.11What's the writer's purpose of writing the passage?A. To urge people to donate faeces. B. To entertain the readers.C. To present a research process. D. To present a scientific proposal.    One nozzle moves back and forth piping red goo(粘稠物) into a rectangle. Another follows adding white layers of a similar substance. The nozzles are labelled "muscle" and "fat". A third, marked "blood", works alongside them. They are part of a machine, developed by an Israeli startup, which can print a steak made entirely of plant-based ingredients.    This method may seem like something out of science fiction, but what it produces has along history. For hundreds of years humans have sought alternatives to animal milks and meats because they were rare and expensive.    During the Tang Dynasty, cheese was increasingly brought from Europe and India to China. Little dairy milk was available so the Chinese used the same method as Western cheese makers but substituted(替代) soya milk for cows' milk to create their own "bean cheese": tofu. During the late 19th century this gained, if not popularity, at least a certain acceptance in the West.    But in America the expansion of the railways, commercial refrigeration and developed farming made meat cheaper and more readily available from the 1880s. In 1896 John Kellogg, breakfast revolutionary, started to sell "Nuttose". Three years later he followed that with "Protose", made by mixing peanuts and wheat. Both were marketed as the "perfect substitute for flesh food". Kellogg's meat substitutes didn't catch on, perhaps be-cause canned, room-temperature, nut-flavored mixture are not appealing enough. Today others are proving more popular. Over 1, 000 different plant-based meat products are available in America according to data from Instacart. Between 2019 and 2020 total sales of plant-based food in America increased by 27%, to $7bn.    Plant-based food sales are expected to rise even further in part because of concerns about the environmental impact of the world's diet. The global food system currently accounts for 21-37% of human emissions.    Some people in the rich world are reducing their meat consumption. Nearly 30% of Americans reported eating less meat, according to a recent survey from YouGov. Eating less meat rather than avoiding it will likely drive demand for meat-free products more than strict veganism(索食主义),especially if companies succeed in producing steaks and pork chops in labs, without any involvement from animals.12What is the first paragraph intended to do?A. Describe a printing machine. B. Show how the machines work.C. Lead the readers to the topic. D. Present the color of the food.13What does the underlined word "that" in the fourth paragraph refer to?A. Nuttose. B.Peanuts. C.Wheat. D.Flesh food.14Which of the following can be inferred from the text?A. Strict veganism will better promote meat-free products.B. Meats' low price led to their greater availability in America.C. Some firms have produced artificial steaks and pork chops.D. Tofu was a cheese-inspired plant-based food in China.15Which can be a suitable title for the text?A. How Plant-based Meats Are MadeB. A Brief Introduction of Plant-based MeatsC. The Environmental Influence of Meat ConsumptionD. The Relationship between Tofu and Cheese二、七选五16Does speaking on the phone make you nervous?    Speaking with people on the phone is becoming rare these days. Many people prefer to use email or messaging apps when they need to communicate with someone. Sometimes, though, making a phone call is unavoidable. This simple act can actually be an unpleasant experience for some people. _____ If this sounds familiar to you, you might be one of them who suffer from telephobia—the fear of speaking on the phone.    Telephobia is a form of social anxiety, although people who feel perfectly comfortable in social situations may also experience telephobia. When speaking face to face, we give off lots of facial cues that help each other follow the conversation. _____ Very often the idea of speaking on the phone makes some people so frightened that they will freeze up or lose control of the conversation. However, there are things that they can do to ease this fear.    One thing that those with telephobia can do before making a call is smile. _____ It won't get rid of the anxiety altogether, but it will take the edge off it. Similarly, imagining how the call will go before you make it can also help things go more smoothly. _____ That will make you feel less nervous and may help you predict any possible problems.    _____ Well, you don't always have to pick up the phone. There's nothing wrong with calling the person back later when you feel more comfortable. So the next time your phone starts ringing, remember speaking on the phone doesn't have to make you nervous. The important thing is to be aware of your fear and take steps to deal with it.A. This is not the case over the phone.B. Their hearts may race at the very thought.C. What are the basic rules of making phone calls?D. Just run through a positive conversation in your head.E. What should you do when you're faced with receiving a call?F. The tiles(瓷砖)and sink were shining like new ones. The kids' room was next to be cleaned. The woman looked into the room and saw a small house made of sheets and blankets. The son and daughter were busy playing Indians, so she decided not to bother them. She would clean the hall first and leave the kids' room for later. Finally, the hall was shining as well. The mother asked the kids if they still needed the small house. They said no and ran to the hall.     After a while, the tired mother passing by the hall was shocked by what she saw. No signs of an hour of cleaning were left. Toys were thrown away here and there, a pile of dirt was under the flower and the entire floor was covered with Lego bricks. The mother didn't even have the strength to scold the children. She sat in an armchair and whispered that housecleaning never ended.    Looking away from the TV, the daughter looked around the room, and without understanding what her mother was talking about, she said, "Of course. If it takes that long for you to clean each room, the house will never be clean."     It shocked the mother again. She dropped the mop(拖把) on the pile of Lego bricks. "Is it because I'm so slow that it's messy in the house?" she asked. "Is it my fault and am I the main reason?" The woman tried to make the children understand who the main source of the mess was. But the children turned to her, nodded their heads and continued watching TV.    The tired mother went back to her bedroom and lay down on the bed. She wanted to cry. She didn't know how long she was on the bed until the children came running to her. They said they were hungry and wanted to eat.注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;2.请按如下格式在相应位置作答。    "I am a bit slow. Would you like to cook on your own?" the mother said quietly._____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________    They had realized that one person was not enough to complete all the housework without the help of others._____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

With the College Entrance Examination approaching, everyone is trying to beat the clock to prepare for it. But I am confronted with some difficulties in study. So I am writing to ask you for a favor.    To begin with, I have trouble falling asleep at night, though exhausted very much, which makes me always absent-minded in class. Furthermore, for a senior three student, finishing a whole test paper on time is still a big challenge. I am not sure what I should do now.    I'd appreciate it if it is possible for you to give me some guidance with these problems.Yours,Li Hua34答案:    "I am a bit slow. Would you like to cook on your own?" the mother said quietly. "Of course," the two children answered and ran excitedly toward the kitchen. Then the mother heard the noise of pots hitting and the fridge door shutting, and that something fell and poured. She knew that she would have to spend hours cleaning up the kitchen, but she patiently stayed in the bedroom. After about half an hour, the children came back to her.    They climbed onto the bed and hugged the mother from both sides. They said they loved her very much. They had realized that one person was not enough to complete all the housework without the help of others. They said they were quite hungry, and that they would now cleanup the hall by themselves, and expected their mother to cook delicious food for them. The woman couldn't help smiling, kissed them on the top of their heads, got up from the bed and went to the kitchen. The routine at home continued. But the mother realized that love was not just taking care of the children, but also teaching them how to be considerate and independent.
