Lesson1 From page to screen
Interpretation of Teaching Design

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. My name is Yin Guoqian . I’m from Liaxia County Middle School. It’s my great honor and pleasure to be here sharing my lesson with you about how to teach reading. In reading process, I will focus on students’ long-term development and enable them to use proper reading skills and strategies. In other words, students are guided to read efficiently and independently.
I have been ready to begin this representation with five parts. Analysis of the teaching material, the teaching aims, the important and difficult points, the studying methods, and the teaching procedure.
Part 1 Teaching Material
The content of my lesson is from new Beijing University edition optional compulsory two.
1、From the content of the text,this is the first lesson in this unit,which tells us the author’s attitude towards adapted films..Its content belongs to the context of human and society theme -literature and art.
2、From the language of the text,the length of this article is relatively long,the full text including 498 words.In addition to some new words( e.g.visualise,spring etc.),there are some movie vocabulary(e.g. adaption,cast, screenwriter,critic etc.).
There are also some complex phrases or sentences structures that students need to understand :highly regarded books,previously unfilmable ,this is where It think many film adaptions fall down
3、From the structure of the text,It is a critical article,using the “total-sub-total”structure.According to the characteristics of the text,students are guided to acquire new knowledge,sort out text content,summarize and integrate information through various reading strategies,such as perdition,skimming,detailed reading and generalization.In the process of reading,guide the students to guess the meaning of words from the context and use them.
“.”The meaning of the paper’s theme is to show that happiness lies in the view of wealth,letting money become the ornament of life tools.Only learn to see light money,happiness can stay around us.
By studying of this module, we’ll enable students to know more about the author’s attitude towards adapted films.
As we all know, reading belongs to the input during the process of the language learning. The input has great effect on output, such as speaking and writing. Therefore, this lesson is in the important position of this module. If our Ss can master it well, it will be helpful for them to learn the rest of this unit.
Part 2 Teaching Aims
According to the new standard curriculum and the syllabus, and after studying the teaching material, the teaching aims are the followings:
1、Language skills objects:
(1)Students can use the key words and phrases correctly;
(2)Students can focus on language:It
2、learning ability :
(1)Students can use the key words,phrases,sentences which we have learned to complete the questions correctly.
(2)Students can use the language and vocabulary they have learned to retell the author’s attitude towards adapted films。
3、Culture awareness:
Students can comprehend the process from page to screen;Teacher guides students to deeper understand author’s attitude towards adapted films.
Part 3 the Important and Difficult Points
Based on the requirement of the syllabus.
The important points are those new words and useful phrases that I have mentioned in this session. The difficult points are How to guide students to use the language and vocabulary they have learned to retell the text and how to guide students to better understand the author’s attitude towards adapted films.The important points are how to comprehend the author hold a negative attitude towards adapted films and how to use the key words,phrases,sentences which we have learned to complete the questions correctly.
Part 4 Teaching Methods
As is known to us all, a good teaching method requires that the teacher should help Ss develop good sense of the English language. For achieving these teaching aims, (after the analysis of the teaching material and teaching aims,) I decide to choose guided reading and task-based teaching as the main teaching approaches with the help of PPT and computer as well
Part 5 Teaching Procedures
Step-1 Check the preview & Lead-in
Activate and share(一):Have you ever watched a film that is adapted from a book?Which one do you think is better,the original book or the film made from it?Why?
Purpose of my design:锻炼学生英文表达能力,同时也激发同学们热情和参与课堂的积极性。
Step-2 Read and explore
一.Extensive reading:
1.What does the title “From page to screen”mean?What is the writer’s attitudes towards it?
2.Why do audiences always have the feeling of “the film is not like the book”?
3.What factors should be taken into consideration when adapting books into films?
二.Intensive reading:
Read the whole article again.Complete the diagram on page 53,focusing on the source materials for adapted films and the main challenges faced by film-makers.
Purpose of my design:通过泛读有助于学生对文章接下来要谈论的问题有大致了解,进而把握整篇文章。精读过程中设置一些题目,会让学生更有针对性地阅读,题目比较容易,降低阅读难度,给学生成功感,增强学生学习兴趣。
Step-3 Think and share
Discuss:
What is the author’s opinion at the end about adapted films? Highlight the evidence in the article. Do you agree with the author’s point of view? Why or why not?
Purpose of my design:通过讨论,能够让学生对文章有更深人的了解,锻炼学生对文章内层含义理解,养成良好的阅读习惯,提高阅读技能。
Step-4 Summary
Complete the sentences using the correct form of the words and phrases below.
Purpose of my design:在理解文章的基础上完成单句填空,帮助学生更好地掌握词汇并梳理文章结构。
Step-5 Homework
1.Read and recite proficiently the related new expressions we have learnt in this passage.(A,B,C)
2.Complete a short passage about a film/TV series you have watched that is adapted from a book(A,B)
3.Complete the exercises 8,9,10 on page 54-55.(A,B,C)
Purpose of my design: Homework is so important and necessary for to master the knowledge they learned after class. It will check whether the Ss achieve the teaching aims.
