    【答案】15.D    16.C    17.D
Some people have very good memories, and can easily learn quite long poems by heart. There are other people who can only remember things when they have said them over and over. The famous English writer Charles Dickens said that he could walk down any long street in London and then tell you the name of every shop he had passed. Many of the great men of the world have had wonderful memories.
A good memory is a great help in learning a language. Everybody learns his own language by remembering what he hears when he is a small child, and some children seem to learn two languages almost as easily as one. In school it is not so easy to learn a second language because the pupils have so little time for it, and they are busy with other subjects as well.
A man's mind is rather like a camera, but it takes photos not only of what we see but also of what we feel, hear, smell and taste. When we take a real photo with a camera there is much to do before the photo is finished and ready to show to our friends. In the same way there is much work to be done before we can keep a picture forever in our minds. Memory is the diary that we all carry about with us.

A.Some people think motor homes are cheap.
B.Big families can put more things in motor homes.
C.They enable a family to have a happier holiday together.
D.They can take people to another city when people are free.
    【答案】18.C    19.D    20.C
Americans with small families own a small car or a large one. If both parents are working, they usually have two cars. When the family is large, one of the cars is sold and they will buy a van.
A small car can hold four persons and a large car can hold six persons but it is very crowded. A van holds seven persons easily, so a family with three children could ask their grandparents to go on a holiday travel. They could all travel together.
Mr. Hagen and his wife had a third child last year. This made them sell a second car and buy a van. The sixth and seventh seats are used to put other things, for a family of five must carry many suitcases when they travel. When they arrive at their grandparents' home, the suitcases are brought into the two seats and the van can then carry the grandparents.
Americans call vans motor homes. A motor home is always used for holidays. When a family are traveling to the mountains or to the seaside, they can live in their motor home for a few days or to the seaside, they can live in their motor home for a few days or weeks. All the members of a big family can enjoy a happier life when they are traveling together. That is why motor homes have become very popular. In America there are many parks for motor homes.

But the American actress has also made a name for herself in the activism(社会活动) world by getting ___34___ in number of charitable projects. While she has been seen as a key figure in raising global attention to gender equality(性别平等) lately, her activist nature dates back to her elementary school days.
One day more than two decades ago, Markle was watching a TV program at school when a dish-washing liquid commercial appeared on the screen. What attracted her attention was its tagline(品牌宣言): “Women all over America are fighting greasy(油腻的) pots and pans.” Two boys from her class said, “Yeah, that’s where women belong – in the kitchen.” Markle felt so shocked and angry at their response that she ___35___ to herself, “It just isn’t right and something needs to be done.”
After getting home, the young Markle decided to make ___36___ to the manufacturer P&G Meanwhile, she wrote to three ___37___ women, including former U.S. first lady Hillary Clinton. To Markle’s surprise, she received letters of encouragement from all three women, and a camera crew even came to her house in Los Angeles to cover the story.
The campaigning didn’t just encourage discussion and change on a local level either. Roughly a month later, P&G changed the commercial for their dish-washing liquid from “women all over America” to “people all over America.” It was at that moment that Markle realized the importance of her actions. By the age of 11, she had created her small level of ___38___ by standing up for gender equality.
Looking back on her experience of somehow accidentally becoming a women’s ___39___ activist, Markle reminded girls, “It isn’t enough to simply talk about equality. One must believe in it. Part B语篇理解(共15分。根据短文内容,从各题的四个选项中选择一个最恰当的答案。)
    (A)
I’ve been writing now for 34 years. It all started when I was just 18 years old.
As a boy growing up, I probably read hundreds of books. I read mysteries, science fiction, thrillers, and just about any other type of book I could find. I had a thirst for knowledge that never seemed to disappear, no matter how many books I read over the years. Then suddenly, I found that I too had ideas of my own that I wanted to write and share. I wanted to share things that were full of goodness, love, joy, and happiness. I tried to ignore my desire at first, but as any writer will tell you, once ideas awaken inside of you, they don’t leave you alone until you write them down. I didn’t have a computer, or even a typewriter, but I grabbed a pen and a notebook and wrote down everything that was burning inside of me.
When I was finally done, I didn’t know how to share my work with the world. There was no internet back then, no smartphones, and no social media. However, I sought out (找到) the editor of my local newspaper and asked if he would like to print what I’d written. He was a good man, full of both wisdom and kindness. He not only printed my first story but agreed to publish anything else I was willing to write.
After that, of course, nothing could stop me. I continued to write new articles each week, which were published in different local papers and later on the internet. Years later, I even self-published two collections of my stories in book form.
Through my writing, I slowly became a better person. Writing allowed me to discover the goodness and light that exist in us all. I also found that we are all writers, whether we put pen to paper or not.
With every choice we make, with every thought we think, and with every action we take, we are writing our own life story.
51.Why did the author start writing?
A.He wanted to try writing thrillers.
B.He wanted to express his own ideas.
C.He thought it would be easy after reading so much.
D.He wanted to inspire others with his reading experience.
52.What can we know about the author’s writing career?
    A.It was lucky but short.
    B.It was busy and lonely.
C.He like writing but he gave it up.
D.He pushed forward with his writing.
53.After publishing his works, the author________.
    A.felt writing had improved him
B.encouraged others to put pen to paper
C.often thought about the choices he made
D.used social media to spread his influence
54.What can we know from the last paragraph?
A.We will think twice before writing and action.
B.We will make wise choice by writing articles.
C.We will become a better person by writing.
D.We are all the authors of our own lives.

    (C)
Dan Buettner, the author of Thrive: Finding Happiness the Blue Zone Way, set out to find the happiest places on earth, and he thinks he’s discovered four competitors on four different continents.
    Singapore
With one of the highest population densities (密度) in the world and residents known for being workaholics, it’s hard to imagine the city-state of Singapore having one of the happiest populations on earth. And yet in a recent survey, 95% of them said they were either very happy or quite happy. They give their city high marks for cleanliness and safety. Subways are unfailingly arrive on time, and police are seen as helpful and good at their jobs.
    Arhus, Denmark
The residents of Arhus cheerfully part with 68% of their income in taxes, knowing that in return they will be guaranteed free healthcare, free daycare, and a topnotch education for their children. A robust city of 300,000 with a lively cultural scene and a diverse number of religions represented, the sense of community and equality (the range in incomes is narrow), as well as easy access to the nearby sea and surrounding countryside, make Arhus seem more like a small town. “We believe that a rich person is not necessarily the one with a lot of money.”
    San Luis Obispo, CA
According to a 2008 Gallup-Healthways study, people who live in San Luis Obispo are more likely than residents of other U.S. cities to smile and experience joy and are less likely to experience pain or depression. Some 64,000 of the 260,000 people volunteer at over 11,000 non-profit organizations. Business signs are unremarkable by law, fewer than 11% of residents smoke—the lowest rate in the U.S. , and the city’s plaza draws lots of people for free concerts on summer Fridays.
    Monterrey, Mexico
Unlike San Luis Obispans, the people of Monterrey don’t enjoy high household incomes or access to good healthcare. Instead, there’s a profound sense of gratitude for the new political freedom enjoyed since the oppressive Institutional Revolutionary Party lost power in 2000. Another reason Monterrey residents may be so happy is their faith in God and family. “We laugh at sickness, poverty and even death,” says Basanez. “We even have a holiday to celebrate death. November 2, the Day of the Dead, is one of the biggest holidays of the year.”
61.Which is the best title of this passage?
A.The Introduction of the Book Finding Happiness the Blue Zone Way.
B.The Four Happiest Cities on Earth.
C.The Four Best Cities on Earth.
D.The Four Most Developed Cities on Earth.
62.Which is the most important reason why people in Singapore feel quite happy?
A.The city is very clean and safe.
B.The city has highest population densities in the world.
    C.Subways always arrive on time.
D.People are friendly to each other.
63.The following statements are true according to the passage EXCEPT ________
A.The residents of Arhus can enjoy free healthcare, free daycare, and a topnotch education for their children.
B.The residents of Arhus can go to the seaside very easily.
C.The residents of Arhus think money is very important.
D.There are a various number of religions in Arhus.
64.The factors of people in San Luis Obispo, CA feeling happy included ________.
    a. People who live in San Luis Obispo experience more joy than sadness.
    b. Many people join the non-profit organizations
    c. People can see many business signs
    d. No people smoke in San Luis Obispo, CA
    e. People can go to the concert for free on summer Fridays
    A.abcd B.ab C.abe D.abcde
65.What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A.People in Monterrey, Mexico are not happy because they can’t enjoy high incomes or good healthcare.
B.People in Monterrey, Mexico don’t like Institutional Revolutionary Party.
C.Monterrey residents are happy because of their faith in God and family.
D.November 2, the Day of the Dead, is one of the biggest holidays of the year.

    【答案】61.B    62.A    63.C    64.C    65.B
通读全文,结合第一段内容“Dan Buettner, the author of Thrive: Finding Happiness the Blue Zone Way, set out to find the happiest places on earth, and he thinks he’s discovered four competitors on four different continents.”(《走!
根据“Singapore”部分关键句“And yet in a recent survey, 95% of them said they were either very happy or quite happy. They give their city high marks for cleanliness and safety.”(然而,在最近的一项调查中,95%的人表示他们要么非常幸福,要么很幸福。 故选A项。
根据“Arhus, Denmark”部分关键句“We believe that a rich person is not necessarily the one with a lot of money.”(我们认为,一个富有的人不一定是一个有很多钱的人。)
根据“San Luis Obispo, CA”部分关键句“According to a 2008 Gallup-Healthways study, people who live in San Luis Obispo are more likely than residents of other U.S. cities to smile and experience joy and are less likely to experience pain or depression.”(根据2008年盖洛普年度幸福指数的一项研究,居住在圣路易斯-奥比斯波的人比其他美国城市的居民更有可能微笑和体验快乐,也不太可能经历痛苦或抑郁。) 可知,许多人加入非营利组织,与“b”描述一致;根据“Business signs are unremarkable by law, fewer than 11% of residents smoke—the lowest rate in the U.S. , and the city’s plaza draws lots of people for free concerts on summer Fridays.”(根据法律,商业标志并不显眼,只有不到11%的居民吸烟——吸烟率是美国最低的,而且这个城市的广场吸引了很多人参加夏季星期五举行的免费音乐会。)
根据“Monterrey, Mexico”部分关键句“Instead, there’s a profound sense of gratitude for the new political freedom enjoyed since the oppressive Institutional Revolutionary Party lost power in 2000.”(相反,人们对压迫性的革命制度党在2000年失去政权后所享有的新的政治自由深表感激。)

Mr. Black was spending his holiday in Africa. One day he watched some elephants passing by. Each of them was tied to his front legs only by a small rope. To his great surprise, these large strong animals could easily run away, but they did not.
So Mr. Black asked the owner why not a single elephant made an attempt to break free. The owner said, ''When the elephants were very young, the same size ropes were used to tie them, and at that time the ropes were strong enough to hold them. Now they have grown big and strong, but they believe that the ropes still hold them and it is impossible to escape, so they never try to get away. ''
Sometimes people act like these elephants. They often give up after the first failures. In fact, the failures are part of learning. If we want to succeed, we should never give up, but try and try again.

To his great surprise, these large strong animals could easily run away, but they did not. Surprised. /He felt surprised.
Now they have grown big and strong, but they believe that the ropes still hold them and it is impossible to escape, so they never try to get away. They believe that it is impossible to escape.
If we want to succeed, we should never give up, but try and try again. We should never give up, but try and try again.

How to live a meaningful life
Life is a gift to all of us. Everyone will have a different life in the future. What should we do to live a meaningful life?
First of all, we must be responsible and helpful. We can look after our parents when they are busy working. And we should also help other people when they are in trouble.
Besides, we should be hard-working and warm-hearted. As a student, we must study hard to learn more knowledge about different kinds of subjects. Also, we must be friendly to others and be polite to our teachers and parents.
What’s more, in order to live a meaningful life, we should also be healthy and active. It’s a good idea to do exercise every day and take part in different activities after school. Always remember to smile at life.
At last, to make the life meaningful and colorful in the future we had better try to develop more interests and learn more new skills.
We’ll be happy to have such a colourful and meaningful life. So we should try our best to make it possible to have a better life.
