IKEA, known around the world as a provider of furniture and other home goods, is taking steps to protect the environment. Ry 2030 IKEA plans to be a circular(循环的)business-one whose products can all be reused or recycled rather than thrown away. To achieve this goal, the company is redesigning all of its products. How can it design products that will last longer and be easier to fix and that people can recycle when they are finished with them?

IKEA wants people to be able to repair its products rather than throw them away when something goes wrong. So the company is standardizing the parts. This means if a part needs to be replaced, it will be easy to find. This makes it possible for customers to repair their own furniture.

IKEA is also trying to make its products easier to take apart and transport, so the furniture is less likely to break when being moved or changing hands.

Sometimes people replace their furniture not because there is something wrong with it, but

because their needs have changed. So IKEA is also trying to help people keep furniture for a longer time by making some pieces easy to be expanded(拓展) or reduced in size when family members and guests come and go.

But even with all these efforts, it is possible that some products will finally no longer be usable. At that point, some pieces of the products can be reused and be made into something new.And IKEA is designing better its products to make these easier.

The company is also working to reduce waste in other areas, such as food waste from restaurants inside its stores.

I had truly believed I would get the part of Shirley. My long, dark hair was much more similar to the character described in the novel than Jodie's traditional good looks. And this was a musical play-Shirley had to sing and that was another reason I should have got the part.

Rehearsals(排练) went on for eight weeks over the hottest part of the summer. At first, I  wanted Jodie to fail, but as time went by I bad to agree that she certainly had a better memory than I did, which made me realize that looks aren't everything, even in the theatre.

That summer was more enjoyable than I'd expected it to be. Our director, Matthew, made the rehearsals fun, telling us stories about his time as an actor. All the actors got on well-after rehearsal, we'd take a walk together in the park, and I started having a good time.

I was at home when the call came It was the night before the play and I was doing my hair in my room. I ran downstairs and picked up the phone, my heart racing. Why was Jodie's dad calling me? Jodie always called my phone. Perhaps something had had happened! Mr. Parsons told. Jodie had fallen off her bike on the way home She was going to be fine but there was something wrong with her shoulder.

The thoughts were racing round my head. The play was opening tomorrow night and Jodie... supposed to be playing the lead! Would the play he called off? Could someone else take the part? Poor Jodie! How was she feeling? Suddenly, I realized that Mr. Parsons was still talking "What was that, Mr. Parsons?" I asked.

"Jodie wants you to play Shirley," he repeated. "Me? W-w-why m-m-me?" I asked. "She said you knew the part," he replied.

So, that's how I came to play Shirley. I must have picked up the lines during rehearsals. I knew them without realizing. Everyone clapped(鼓掌) as we took our final bow, but I'm sure Jodie would have been a better Shirley than me.
