Step1: Warming up | T guides Ss to learn some English idioms on animals in order to make students interested in learning English. | Ss fill in the blanks according to the hints of the pictures on the right. | ||||||
Step2: Learning and pracising | T shows a paragraph about these idioms on the screen, and asks Ss to fill in the blanks after thinking for a while. | Ss work in groups and complete the blanks after grasping the main idea of the paragraph by themselves. | ||||||
Step3: Brainstorming | T asks Ss to think about other English idioms related to animals and make up a dialogue in a proper context. | Ss try to list as many idioms as possible, and then they design and describe a realistic situation in which these idioms can be used. | ||||||
Step4: Listening for the main idea | T plays the audio for the first time, and asks Ss to get a grip of the main topic of the television debate. | Ss listen to the recording and manage to select the central topic. | ||||||
Step5: Listening for details | T plays the audio for the second time, and asks Ss to complete the mind-map. Then T guides Ss to focus on the specific expressions to agree with others or persuade other people. | Ss write down some key information on different opinions and make the mind map more complete. Then Ss work in groups and find out the expressions that were mentioned repeatedly. | ||||||
Step6: Group production | T leads Ss to sum up the specific way to express agreement and disagreement in English, and then asks them to hold a debate. | Ss work in pairs and prepare for a debate on the preference for raising animals as pets. Then eight pairs present the debate to the whole class. | ||||||
Homework | Ss work in pairs and hold another debate around any topic close to animals or their daily life. | |||||||
