    (Text 1)
W: Brad, we’ve been here in the cafe for nearly two hours. I need my book now! No more waiting!
M: Let’s wait for Tim a little longer. He’ll be here with your book any minute now.
W: You told me that an hour ago. It’s already noon!
    (Text 2)
W: Why did you buy this T-shirt? I don’t think the color lovely. Is it back in style again this year?
M: Well, it’s got this picture on it. It’s cool.
    (Text 3)
W: Hi, Mike. How are you?
M: Well, a little bored. It’s raining here. I wanted to go out for a walk today, but now I’m just sitting here writing e-mails.
    (Text 4)
    W: I can’t believe it!
    M: What’s the matter?
W: Do you remember John Barnes from our college? He’s got a new job. Isn’t it surprising?
    M: Well, I don’t care.
    (Text 5)
M: Hi, Miss! Wait a moment please!
W: Excuse me. Are you talking to me?
M: Yeah, here’s your card. It fell out of your pocket just now.
W: Oh, yes, thank you very much.
    (Text 6)
W: Welcome! What can I do for you?
M: Um, I’m looking for a new mobile phone. There is something wrong with my current phone and it always shuts down automatically.
W: What kind of phone do you prefer, a touch-screen one or a traditional keypad one?
M: I haven’t used a touch-screen one before. I want to try something new. So I’d like to choose a touch screen one.
W: What about this one? It is specially designed for the elderly. It’s got Wi-Fi and GPS. And you can also download all kinds of apps. The price is reasonable. Its original price is 150 dollars and I can give you a 20% discount.
M: That sounds good. I’ll take it.
    (Text 7)
    W: Good news! I accepted a part-time position at Hal’s Department Store.
M: But what about that great offer from the computer company — with the great salary?
W: Other things are more important to me than money. If I had taken a full-time job, I wouldn’t have had time to tutor the kids in the evenings.
M: But that’s volunteer work. They don’t pay you!
W: I don’t need any more money. I do it because I really love it.
M: Wow! I can’t believe you gave up a job with such a great salary.
    (Text 8)
W: It’s Michael’s twenty-fifth birthday next week. I’d like to invite him to a restaurant he hasn’t been to yet. Could you recommend anywhere?
M: Actually, yes. There is a great Bulgarian restaurant near where I live.
W: Bulgarian? I don’t think I’ve ever tried Bulgarian food.
M: Well, it’s really good. It’s a bit like Greek food — lots of vegetables, olive oil, very good cheese. There is also a fantastic salad, which is made of fresh vegetables with a very special kind of cheese.
W: That sounds lovely, but Michael likes meat as well.
M: Oh, they do serve meat too, very good roast meat and fish and for dessert they’ve got cakes that are a bit like Turkish ones.
    W: I like Turkish ones!
M: But that’s sweet and rich in fat. I can feel myself putting on weight already.
    (Text 9)
W: What can I do for you, sir?
M: I’d like to exchange some money.
    W: Okay.
M: I’m doing two trips. I’m doing a trip to Spain which is for my holiday and then I’m going to America for business. So could I have four hundred pounds for each currency?
W: Yeah. If you’re going to America, you need to take U.S. dollars.
    M: Right.
W: For four hundred pounds, I can give you about five hundred dollars. And if you are going to Spain, obviously you need to take euros, for which I can give you four hundred and forty euros.
    M: That sounds good.
W: Well, we have two hundreds, hundreds, fifties and twenties. And I recommend you to take some small bills, so you can spend them in Spain very easily.
    M: Okay, that’s fine.
W: What about U.S. dollars? Do you want the same bills as well for that?
M: A mixture would be fine.
W: We can give you some twenties, tens and even coins …
M: Maybe two one-hundred dollar bills would be great.
    (Text 10)
W: My musical inspiration is the English singer, Leona Lewis. One reason I admire her is that she’s got a great voice. She also inspires me because she is so determined and ambitious.
Leona was born in London in 1985. She dreamed of a career in music from an early age. She wrote her first song at the age of twelve and made her first recording when she was only fifteen years old. In 2006, she became the first female winner of the British talent show, The X-Factor and she made her first album, Spirit.
Probably her greatest achievement was when she sang at the Olympic closing ceremony in Beijing in 2008 in front of a TV audience of three billion people.
Another reason I admire her is that she is not only a talented and successful singer, she is also a very brave person. She always speaks her mind on important issues such as cancer awareness and vegetarianism.
To sum up, Leona Lewis is my musical inspiration and an inspiration to all young people because she has already achieved so many great things in her career. She has sold millions of albums; she has won many music awards and she has appeared with artists like Take That and Mariah Carey.

A four-year-old boy discovers that compassion (同情) for the 1ess fortunate can produce amazing results. Our hero’ s origin story started this past February. Austin and his father, TJ Perine, went to the Firehouse Ministries, a local shelter that provides housing, food, and other services for homeless men. As they drove by the redbrick building, they saw a group of 25 homeless men standing on the street corner. “Dad, they look sad,” Austin said. “Can we take them some food and make them smile?”
That day, Austin used his allowance to buy each man a Burger King sandwich and handed the food out himself. Seeing what their presence meant to the men at the ministry, Austin and TJ returned the next week. Austin again dipped into his piggy bank to buy sandwiches, which he banded out along with his new catchphrase, “Don’t forget to show love?”
After he returned every week for five weeks, word of Austin’s acts of kindness spread through social media and national news outlets. Burger King jumped aboard, agreeing to donate $1,000 a month for an entire year toward the cause. Soon, churches and shelters across the country began inviting Austin to come distribute food in other poverty-prone areas. Whereas before Austin and TJ could feed 25 to 50 people at a time, now, thanks to corporate and community support, they can feed 800 to 2,000 people at once.
Austin’s passion has now become his family’s calling. His mother Audrey established the Show Love Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to fighting homelessness. She now serves as president, and TJ left his job to oversee public relations for the foundation full time. He’s in talks with the city of Birmingham to secure the redbrick building where it all started—Firehouse Ministries is moving- -as the site of their own shelter, which will offer medical and mental care as preventive steps against homelessness.
As for Austin, he continues to give out food, smiles, and his inspirational message of love. “It makes me feel like I’m saving the day.”
    24. What did Austin do with his pocket money?
    A. Travel across the country. B. Build a shelter for the poor.
    C. Improve the life of his family. D. Buy some food for the homeless.
    25. Why did the author mention Burger King in paragraph 3?
    A. To make an advertisement for it. B. To show the effect of Austin’s act.
    C. To praise its kindness and support. D. To seek its help for the less fortunate.
    26. What can we learn about the Show Love Foundation?
    A. It is highly profitable. B. It was set up by Austin.
    C. It will provide health care. D. It’s funded by the government.

Professors at the University of California San Diego have developed microrobots, which can be a potential treatment for life-threatening cases of bacterial pneumonia, a serious disease affecting lungs and making breathing difficult. In mice, the microrobots safely removed pneumonia-causing bacteria in the lungs and resulted in 100% survival while untreated mice all died within three days after infection.
The microrobots are made of algae (藻类) cells whose surfaces are covered with substances that are filled with antibiotics (抗生素). The algae provides movement, which allows the microrobots to swim around and make antibiotics go directly to more bacteria in the lungs, helping absorb bacteria and clear them of infected cells. This give the microrobots the ability to reduce bacterial infection, which in turn makes them more effective at fighting lung infection.
The work is a joint effort by engineering professors Joseph and Zhang Liangfang. Together, they have pioneered the development of tiny drug-delivering robots that can be safely used in live animals to treat bacterial infections in the stomach and blood. Treating bacterial lung infection is the latest in their line of work.
“In the traditional treatment, sometimes only a very small number of antibiotics will get into the lungs. That’s why many current antibiotic treatments for pneumonia don’t work as well as needed,” said Victor Nizet, a co-worker of Joseph and Zhang “Based on these mouse data, we see that the microrobots could potentially improve the use of antibiotics to kill bacteria and save more patients’ lives.”
The work is still at the proof-of-concept stage. The team plans to do more basic research to understand exactly how the microrobots interact with the immune system Next steps also include studies to confirm the effectiveness of the microrobot treatment before testing it in larger animals and eventually, in humans. “We’re pushing the boundary further in the field of targeted drug delivery,” said Zhang.
    28. How do microrobots work?
    A. By doing targeted drug delivery.
    B. By interacting with antibiotic-filled matter.
    C. By producing algae cells in lungs.
    D. By separating harmful cells from healthy ones.
    29. What is Victor Nizet’s attitude towards the invention?
    A. Doubtful. B. Subjective. C. Cautious. D. Favorable.
    30. What does the team expect of the microrobots?
    A. They’ll inspire a new line of research.
    B. They’ll help strengthen the immune system.
    C. They’ll have a wider range of application.
    D. They’ll be a further proof of their concept.
    31. What is the text mainly about?
    A. A scientific invention treating deadly cancers.
    B. Tiny swimming robots helping treat pneumonia.
    C. A major breakthrough made in antibiotic research.
    D. Microrobots employed in the engineering field.

A 29. D 30. C 31. B

根据第二段“The microrobots are made of algae (藻类) cells whose surfaces are covered with substances that are filled with antibiotics (抗生素). The algae provides movement, which allows the microrobots to swim around and make antibiotics go directly to more bacteria in the lungs, helping absorb bacteria and clear them of infected cells. (微型机器人是由藻类细胞制成的,藻类细胞的表面覆盖着充满抗生素的物质。藻类提供运动,使微型机器人可以四处游动,使抗生素直接作用于肺部的更多细菌,帮助吸收细菌并清除受感染的细胞。)”以及最后一段““We’re pushing the boundary further in the field of targeted drug delivery,” said Zhang.”(“我们正在进一步推动靶向药物递送领域的边界,”张说。) 故选A。
根据第四段““In the traditional treatment, sometimes only a very small number of antibiotics will get into the lungs. That’s why many current antibiotic treatments for pneumonia don’t work as well as needed,” said Victor Nizet, a co-worker of Joseph and Zhang “Based on these mouse data, we see that the microrobots could potentially improve the use of antibiotics to kill bacteria and save more patients’ lives.”(“在传统治疗中,有时只有非常少量的抗生素会进入肺部。这就是为什么目前许多抗生素治疗肺炎的效果不如预期,”约瑟夫和张的同事维克多•尼泽特说,“基于这些小鼠身上的数据,我们看到微型机器人有可能改善抗生素的使用,杀死细菌,挽救更多病人的生命。”)”可推断,他对微型机器人持肯定的态度。故选D。
    30. 推理判断题。根据最后一段“The work is still at the proof-of-concept stage. The team plans to do more basic research to understand exactly how the microrobots interact with the immune system (免疫系统). Next steps also include studies to confirm the effectiveness of the microrobot treatment before testing it in larger animals and eventually, in humans. “We’re pushing the boundary further in the field of targeted drug delivery,” said Zhang. (这项工作仍处于概念验证阶段。该团队计划进行更多的基础研究,以确切了解微型机器人如何与免疫系统相互作用。下一步的研究还包括确认微型机器人治疗的有效性,然后在更大的动物身上进行测试,最终在人类身上进行测试。“我们正在进一步推动靶向药物递送领域的边界,”张说。)”可知,该团队希望微型机器人能有更广泛的用途。故选C。
    31. 主旨大意题。根据第一段“Professors at the University of California San Diego have developed microrobots, which can be a potential treatment for life-threatening cases of bacterial pneumonia, a serious disease affecting lungs and making breathing difficult.

Most stars are invisible against the overhead glare from city lights. At best, there is only a bit of the Milky Way to see: the combined radiance of a hundred billion stars dims (暗淡) to near-nothingness by bright streetlamps and storefronts.
This is light pollution-human-generated light cast up into the heavens-causing the sky itself to glow and washing out the stars. Astronomers have known for years the situation is bad for observing stars, but it also has real and negative effects on the well-being of many living things-plants, animals and even human beings. More than 80 percent of humanity is affected by light pollution, their view of the skies being stolen away.
All this extra light at night has a large effect on the life under it. Researchers have shown that it has negative impacts on many animals and plants; light pollution disturbs the great migrations of birds, the delicate blossoming of flowers, and even the courtship (求偶) of fireflies, etc. It affects humans as well, possibly causing insomnia (失眠) among many other health problems.
So what can we do about our brightening skies? There is a lot already happening. Groups like the International Dark Sky Association, or IDA, advocate not for more lighting but for more intelligent lighting; smarter street lights that concentrate their light downward is one example. Because these lights offer more efficient light, they save energy, too, eventually paying for themselves. The IDA offers advice on how to contact local authorities to fix better equipment and create ordinances to lower pollution. Many cities in the United States and other countries are certified Dark Sky Communities (DSC), ones that have shown “exceptional devotion to the preservation of the night sky” by discouraging wasteful lighting practices.
Many people don’t even know that they-and their children-are losing this cosmic (宇宙的) experience just over their heads. We need the dark night sky, and it’s up to all of us to make sure it’s still there every time the sun goes down.
    32. How does the author organise Paragraph 3?
    A. By listing figures. B. By giving examples.
    C. By following the order of time. D. By analyzing cause and effect.
    33. What does the underlined word “ordinances” in Paragraph 4 probably mean?
    A. Surveys. B. Jobs. C. Wonders. D. Regulations.
    34. What is stressed in the last paragraph?
    A. The importance of the dark night sky.
    B. The urgency of having cosmic experience.
    C. The necessity of solving the problem of light pollution.
    D. Our children’s responsibility to fight light pollution.
    35. What’s the best title for the text?
    A. Light Pollution Is Dimming Our View of the Sky
    B. IDA Is Advocating Much Smarter Street Lights
    C. DSC Has Shown Devotion to Preserving the Night Sky
    D. The Applications of Intelligent Lighting Are Worldwide
B 33. D 34. C 35. A
根据文章第三段“All this extra light at night has a large effect on the life under it.
根据文章最后一段“Many people don’t even know that they-and their children-are losing this cosmic(宇宙的)experience just over their heads. We need the dark night sky, and it’s up to all of us to make sure it’s still there every time the sun goes down. (许多人甚至不知道他们和他们的孩子正在失去头顶上的这种宇宙体验。我们需要漆黑的夜空,我们所有人都有责任确保每次太阳下山时它仍然在那里。)”可知,最后一段强调解决光污染问题的必要性。故选C。
    35. 主旨大意题。阅读全文以及文章第一段“Most stars are invisible against the overhead glare from city lights. At best, there is only a bit of the Milky Way to see: the combined radiance of a hundred billion stars dims(暗淡)to near-nothingness by bright streetlamps and storefronts. (大多数星星在城市灯光的照耀下是看不见的。往好了说,我们只能看到银河系的一小部分:在明亮的路灯和店面的映衬下,1000亿颗恒星的光芒加在一起,变得几乎为零。)”可知,本文主要讲述了由于强光的照射,大都数恒星我们都看不见了。由此可知,A项:Light Pollution Is Dimming Our View of the Sky 故选A。
How to Leave Your Comfort Zone
The comfort zone is a behavioral state within which a person uses a limited set of behaviors to deliver a steady level of performance, causing their progress to cease. But life is full of opportunities to step outside the comfort zone. Here are some ways one might try to do so.
Do everyday things differently. In everyday life, there are plenty of opportunities to challenge yourself. Turn off your smartphone and television while having dinner, decide what to wear more quickly, or just slow down to take in the surroundings on a walk. 36
Try a new diet. Many people want to improve their diets and stop relying on “comfort foods”. 37 Shifting to a healthier diet can be as challenging as it is rewarding, with self-trust growing as you hit milestone goals along the way.
38 Many people are longing for this goal. For some, it can mean running their first 5K. But for others, it might be completing a marathon. Aiming higher with exercise is representative of leaving the comfort zone and a great way to get the ball rolling.
Get creative. Creativity—anything from writing a poem to building a business—usually involves an element of risk. 39 Therefore, failing and accompanying learning are expected outcomes. Exercising creativity is a good way to train yourself to have a growth mindset and let go of a need for perfection from the outset.
Challenge your beliefs. It’s easy to get stuck in our ways, but this can lead to self-satisfaction—a feature of being in the comfort zone. 40 While this can be uncomfortable, it enables growth and insight by challenging deep-rooted beliefs. This might take several forms, such as reading varied book genres, diversifying who you talk to, and visiting new places.
    A. Take workouts to the next level.
    B. Motivate yourself with a new sport.
    C. Doing so often means trying something new.
    D. Creative efforts are about stepping into the unknown.
    E. Therefore, we need to explore alternative perspectives.
    F. These changes break you out of old, comfortable routines.
    G. Benefits of leaving the comfort zone won’t happen overnight.
F 37. C 38. A 39. D 40. E
和前文“In everyday life, there are plenty of opportunities to challenge yourself. Turn off your smartphone and television while having dinner, decide what to wear more quickly, or just slow down to take in the surroundings on a walk. (在日常生活中,有很多机会挑战自己。吃饭时关掉智能手机和电视,更快地决定穿什么,或者在散步时放慢速度,欣赏一下周围的环境。)”列举的一系列不同于往常的惯例做法,推断出此处应该说做了这些事情会对走出舒适区有什么帮助,即让你打破固有的、舒适的惯例。所以选择项F“These changes break you out of old, comfortable routines.(这些改变会让你从旧的、舒适的日常生活中解脱出来。)”
    37. 根据空前“Many people want to improve their diets and stop relying on “comfort foods”. (许多人想改善他们的饮食,不再依赖“安慰食物”。)”可知,要改善饮食和停止依赖舒适区食物,此处应该说“要这么做,就意味着要尝试新的东西”,即空之后的“shifting to a healthier diet(转向更健康的饮食)”,所以选择项C“Doing so often means trying something new. (这样做通常意味着尝试新事物。)”符合上下文语境。故选C。
    38. 根据此空的位置,并结合上下几个段落,空处应该是一个小标题,能概括本段的主要内容,从A、B中选择。根据后文“Aiming higher with exercise is representative of leaving the comfort zone and a great way to get the ball rolling.(以更高的目标进行锻炼是离开舒适区的代表,也是让球滚动的好方法。)” A“Take workouts to the next level. (让锻炼更上一层楼。)”符合上下文语境。故选A。
再根据空后的连词“therefore”推断出本空和后一句“Therefore, failing and accompanying learning are expected outcomes.(因此,失败和随之而来的学习是预期的结果。)” D“Creative efforts are about stepping into the unknown. (创造性的努力是迈向未知的领域。)”符合上下文语境。故选D。
    40. 结合本段中心“Challenge your beliefs(挑战你的信念)”和空前的一句“It’s easy to get stuck in our ways, but this can lead to self-satisfaction—a feature of being in the comfort zone.( 我们很容易陷入困境,但这可能会导致自我满足——这是在舒适区的一个特征。)可知,一成不变是很容易的,但是这会导致自我满足”,所以要“探索其他的视角”,而且解释了后一句“this”指代的内容,所以选择项E“Therefore, we need to explore alternative perspectives.

根据句中的“so far(迄今为止)”可知,谓语动词使用现在完成时,主语“Liu and his partner”为复数意义,故填have created。
修饰 painting process作定语应该使用形容词性物主代词,they的形容词性物主代词是their,指代前文的“Liu and his partner”。故填their。
根据横线左边的“five days to complete a simple wall painting”和横线右边的“seven to ten days to finish a complex one”可知,二者为并列关系,故填and。

When I arrived home from school, night was falling. A call came from the public: a bird of unknown species was being attacked by a group of noisy children in his front garden. He scared them off and grabbed their victim. I immediately called for my classmate Jack to the spot.
We were standing in front of a stranger’s house in an unfamiliar street, rescue box in hand. My head full of instructions to follow. “The bird would be our first test as a volunteer wildlife rescuer!” Jack said excitedly. We had completed the two-day intensive training course the previous month and learned the basic skills of rescuing animals in various situations.
But we were anxious, too. After all, it was the first time for us to rescue a bird. Would I be able to transfer the bird neatly into my rescue box? Many worries flashed in my mind. Sensing my unease about the act ahead, Jack said, “These things are pretty easy to deal with!”
I was wondering what kind of bird it was when a kind-looking man appeared and led us inside to see our very first patient. I lifted the edge of the shoe box very slightly to see an angry-looking bird standing to attention on very thin and long legs, together with a slice of banana and a small dish of water. He didn’t know its true name but the folks called the creature Red Fan. “It’s eaten some banana,” said the man proudly. The poor soul seemed rather nervous, so l decided not to grab it by hand but just transfer the whole shoe box into my rescue box.
Back home, we could only see some minor injuries in the left wing, but there was no blood on its feathers. Jack managed to treat the injuries with some iodophor We assessed its condition to find out if it was appropriate to release the bird the next day. How could we help it spend the night peacefully? We hadn’t seen this species of bird before, let alone its habits.
    注意:
    1. 续写词数要求应为150左右;
    2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
“Why not do a search on the Internet?” suggested Jack.
    _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The next day, we were glad to see the bird was well enough.
    _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One possible version:
“Why not do a search on the Internet?” suggested Jack. We acted quickly and surfed the Internet to figure out the relevant information about the bird, such as its species and habits. Following the given advice, we put some cotton at the bottom of the box to keep it warm and placed it near the fireplace. In order to recover its energy, we gave it some food and water. The bird looked a bit more comfortable, and soon it fell asleep. Having ensured the bird was in good condition, we felt relieved.
The next day, we were glad to see the bird was well enough. It was singing and bouncing around in the rescue box. Obviously, it had regained its energy! Realizing it was fully ready for freedom, we took the box outside, placed the bird in my palm and petted it softly with mixed feelings. I held the bird up and let it go. The bird was circling above us as if to express gratitude. Jack and I looked at each other with a broad smile, feeling that we were qualified volunteer wildlife rescuers now.
