From that moment on, “the very last thing I ever thought about doing was taking a typing course,” she recalls. The show business thing worked out, of course. In her career, Mary won many awards. Only recently, when she began to write Growing Up Again, did she regret ignoring her mom, “I don’t know how to use a computer,” she admits.Unlike her 1995 autobiography, after all, her second book is less about life as an award-winning actress and more about living with diabetes (糖尿病). All the money from the book is intended for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), an organization she serves as international chairman. “I felt there was a need for a book like this,” she says. “I didn’t want to lecture, but I wanted other diabetics to know that things get better when we’re self-controlled and do our part in managing the disease.”But she hasn’t always practiced what she teaches. In her book, she describes that awful day, almost 40 years ago, when she received two pieces of life-changing news. First, she had lost the baby she was carrying, and second, tests showed that she had diabetes. In a childlike act, she left the hospital and treated herself to a box of doughnuts (甜甜圈). Years would pass before she realized she had to grow up-again-and take control of her diabetes, not let it control her. Only then did she kick her three-pack-a-day cigarette habit, overcome her addiction to alcohol, and begin to follow a balanced diet.Although her disease has affected her eyesight and forced her to the sidelines of the dance floor, she refuses to fall into self-pity. “Everybody on earth can ask, ‘why me?’ about something or other,” she insists. “It doesn’t do any good. No one is immune (免疫的) to heartache, pain, and disappointments. Sometimes we can make things better by helping others. I’ve come to realize the importance of that as I’ve grown up this second time. I want to speak out and be as helpful as I can be. ”4Why did Mary feel regretful?AShe didn’t complete her high school. BShe didn’t follow her mother’s advice.CShe didn’t take care of her mother. DShe didn’t achieve her ambition.5What can we know about Mary before 1995?AShe had two books published. BShe knew how to use a computer.CShe supported the JDRF by writing. DShe received many career awards.6What is Mary's second book Growing Up Again mainly about?AHer remembrance of her mother. BHer successful show business.CHer living with diabetes. DHer service for an organization.7What can we know from the last paragraph?AMary wants to help others as much as possible.BMary determines to go back to the dance floor.CMary has recovered from her disease.DMary feels pity for herself.C(新鲜科技类-说明文)You’ve probably already heard about AI-powered cameras that can recognize people just by analyzing their facial features, but what if there was a way for artificial intelligence to figure out what you look like just by the sound of your voice and without comparing your voice to a database? That’s exactly what a team of scientists at MIT has been working on, and the results of their work are impressive. While their neural network, named Speech2Face, can’t yet figure out the exact facial features of a human just by their voice, it certainly gets plenty of details right.Speech2Face is trained in the training data, which is a collection of educational videos from YouTube. “Our model is designed to reveal statistical connections that exist between facial features and voices of speakers in the training data,” the creators of Speech2Face said. However, the data does not represent equally the entire world population. Therefore, the model- -as is the case with any machine learning model- is affected by this uneven distribution of data. You can tell a lot about a person from the way they speak alone. For example, you can most likely tell if someone is male or female, or if they are young or old, but Speech2Face goes beyond that. It can determine fairly accurately the shape of someone’ s nose, cheekbones or jaw from their voice alone, because the way the nose and other bones in our faces are structured determines the way we sound. The racial characteristic is also one of the things Speech2Face can figure out with accuracy from listening to someone’s voice for just a few milliseconds, as people who come from the same groups tend to have similar qualities or features. The AI takes a variety of factors into account, and it sometimes produces impressive results, but it’s still a work in progress.8How does Speech2Face recognize a human’s facial features?ABy the shape of their nose. BBy the sound of their voice.CBy the expression on their face. DBy the results of data comparison.9What can we learn about Speech2Face according to the passage?AIt can tell a person’s personality by his voice.BIt can determine where a person comes from.CIt can tell the size of a person by his voice.DIt can reconstruct an image of a person’s face.10What is the correct structure of the text?A BC D12What will the text probably mention about Speech2Face fallowing the last paragraph?AIts market future. BIts features.CIts limitations. DIts applications.D(议论文)There are too many fat people in America, so many Americans are fighting against overweight. But the strange thing is that the French, who consume rich food, continue to stay thin. Now a research by Cornell University suggests how life style and decisions about eating may affect weight. Researchers concluded that the French tend to stop eating when they feel full. However, Americans tend to stop when their plates are empty or their favorite TV show is over.According to Dr. Joseph Mercola, a health expert, the French see eating as an important part of their life style. They enjoy food and therefore spend a fairly long time at the table, while Americans see eating as something to be squeezed between the other daily activities. Mercola believes Americans lose the ability to sense when they are actually full. So they keep eating long after the French would have stopped. In addition, he points out that Americans drive to huge supermarkets to buy canned and frozen foods for the week. The French, instead tend to shop daily, walking to small shops and farmers’ markets where they have a choice of fresh fruits, vegetables, and eggs as well as high-quality meats for each meal. After a visit to the United States, Mireille Guiliano, author of French Women Don’t Get Fat, decided to write about the importance of knowing when to stop rather than suggesting how to avoid food. Today she continues to stay slim and rarely goes to the gym.In spite of all these differences, evidence shows that recent life style changes may be affecting French eating habits. Today the rate of obesity(肥胖)among adults is only 6%. However, as American fast food gains acceptance and the young reject older traditions, the obesity rate among French children has reached 17%-and is growing.11Americans struggle with watching their weight mainly because     .Athey prefer to consume rich food.Bthey only buy food in huge supermarkets.Cthey desire to be as slim as TV stars.Dthey fail to stop eating even if they are full.12What can we learn from Dr. Joseph Mercola in paragraph 2?AFrenchmen place too much importance on eating.BFrenchmen have a smaller appetite for food.CAmericans like to buy food in big supermarkets.DAmericans have no interest for fruits and vegetables.13How does the author present his ideas in the text?ABy giving examples.BBy providing explanations.CBy making comparison.DBy listing figures.14What does the text focus on?AAmericans and Frenchmen.BLifestyle and obesity.CDiet and personalities.DFast food and overweight. 参考答案BCB BDCA BDBC DCCB
