ONLINE REVIEW: ◆◆◆◆◇ All-natural, sizes are strange By a Mom of five Nov. 14, 2023 As a mom of five, with two still in diapers, I wasn’t sure about this brand. I had already been using another brand for years, but after I used a free sample of these, I decided to switch. I love that these diapers use all-natural materials on the inside where the diaper touches my baby’s delicate skin. The only complaint I have is that the diapers are small compared to other brands. But, they still kept my baby dry, and there were no leaks (漏)! |
RESPONSE: Thank you for your review. I’m glad that the diapers are working for your baby and you. We designed these diapers because we think babies deserve the best. We’ve tested them vigorously so that you can rest easy, knowing that your baby is comfortable, and that you won’t have a mess to take care of since our diapers don’t leak. We aren’t sure why you think the diapers are small but if you’ll let us call you, we’d like to hear more so we can fix anything that doesn’t meet our customers’ standards. David R. Mann, Pipers Company |

It was a bright spring morning in Rochester, New York, neighborhood. Three young men, their hearts full of excitement, were preparing for a road trip across the United States. It would be the adventure (冒险) of a lifetime. I was one of those young men. For my friends and me, going on a cross-country exploration was at the top of our bucket lists!
A bucket list simply lists things you want to see, try or accomplish (完成) within your lifetime. But it’s not something simple like learning to ride a bike or passing a math test. You need to dream big! This may not sound practical, but it’s a good mental exercise and a lot of fun. Making a bucket list can push you to do something extraordinary (超乎寻常的)!
Making a bucket list can also help you know about your values. People live busy lives, so it’s easy to get tangled up (纠缠) in life’s daily routines. But taking time to think carefully aout what you really want from life can help you get a fresh perspective (视角).
If you’re ready to start making your own bucket list, you first need to decide what to put on it. You could make a list of outlandish (稀奇古怪) things you’d like to do, such as doing an underwater photo shoot as a mermaid. If you love adventure, your list might include learning to sail a sailboat. If you love animals, you could put a trip to Tokyo to visit an owl cafe on your list.
If you can’t think of anything to put on your list, then learn something new! My interest in visiting Chile came from reading an article in a magazine. The universe interests me, and I want to learn more about it! Now it’s your turn. What strikes your fancy? Not until you dream BIG can you discover what you are capable of (有能力做).
6. The first thing in the writer’s buket list is ______.
A. to have a cross-country road trip
B. to learn to ride a bike
C. to pass a math test
7. The writer says “You need to dream big!” in Para 2. He means ______.
A. the bucket to put your dream should not be too small
B. you need to list as many things you want to do as possible
C. the things you need to list are extraordinary not simple
8. From ______, we can know why we need to make a bucket list.
A. Para 1 and Para2 B. Para 2 and Para3 C. Para 3 and Para 4
9. According to the writer, “______” might be the outlandish thing.
A. visiting an owl café in Tokyo
B. reading an article in a magazine
C. making a bucket list
10. From the last paragraph, the writer tells us ______.
A. a good place to learn something new
B. a way to find things you want to do
C. the step to achieve your dream
阅读C篇,掌握其大意,然后根据短文内容将下面方框内的五个选项还原到文中,使短文意思通顺、结构完整。(每小题1分)

Words! Words! Words! So many words! We use them to communicate feelings and ideas. 11 And how do they end up in a dictionary? The answer is through extensive reading of published materials by dictionary researchers.
For example, the editors of Merriam-Webster Dictionary spend an hour or two every day reading. What do they read? 12 They are on the lookout for new words, new usages (使用) and differences in spellings. They also look at which words are being used the most. And they pay attention to the way they are being used. Context (语境) is also noted for further clues about the form and use of a word.
The Oxford English Dictionary’s (OED) Reading Programme uses paid and volunteer readers to help. These people give quotations (引文), explaining their usages. 13
Recently, the OED has added many new English words from electronic files, the pandemic (大流行病) and pop culture. In 1999, “K-pop” surfaced in Billboard Magazine and 14
From Merriam-Webster we have 455 recently added words including “dad bod ”— 15 Also added was “digital nomad,” meaning someone who does their job over the internet from anywhere. So many words. And there are more on the way!
A. in 2016 was added to the OED. B. a typical middle-aged dad’s body shape. C. They read online articles, books, magazines and newspapers. D. But where do those words come from? E. The history of a word’s usage and current usage is also pointed out. |

Discovery in The Foja
In 2008, a group of scientists went to the Foja Mountains in New Guinea. “The mountains are unique. There are no roads, no people—and almost no human impact (影响),” one group member said. In just a few weeks, the international team found at least 12 different new species (物种). These species live only in the Foja Mountains. Here are a few of the animals they discovered.
Biologist Kristofer Helgen found this tiny tree mouse, which travels from one tree to another. “It uses them almost like a highway in the forest. It hardly ever goes down and touches the ground,” he says.
The blossom bat (花蝙蝠) is a bat with a really long tongue. It uses it to drink nectar from flowers. It’s “kind of like the hummingbird of the bat world,” says Helgen.
The scientists also found a frog, which they called the Pinocchio frog because of its long nose. They were very lucky—they caught one in the camp kitchen. During the whole trip, this was the only one they saw.
The group found many amazing things. However, there are still many more mysteries waiting for the next team of explorers.
16. There is nothing in the Foja Mountains according to a scientist. ______
17. The team of scientists found four new kinds of animals. ______
18. The underlined word “them” in Para. 2 refers to trees. ______
19. The blossom bat uses its long nose to drink nectar from flowers. ______
20. The scientists only found one Pinocchio frog in their trip. ______
