My English teacher said I did well in reading and writing, but I was poor in listening. So I asked him for help. He gave me some suggestions to improve my listening skills. Firstly, before listening, I need to relax. I shouldn’t get nervous or excited. Secondly, listen carefully to the first sentence. The first sentence tells a lot about the whole passage. Thirdly, when you’re listening, try to do some thinking. This way you may understand the passage better. Fourthly, listen just the key words. Finally, don’t think about one or two words for too long. You may hear some words that you don’t know, but don’t spend too much time on them, or you’ll miss more. I hope I can get good grades in the English test next Friday.

The beaver(河狸)is mainly found in North America. It is about three and a half feet long, including the tail, which is a foot in length.
Beavers build themselves the most lovely huts to live in, and quite often a great number of these huts are placed close together, like the buildings in a town. They always build their huts on the banks of rivers or lakes, as they swim much more easily than they walk, and prefer moving about in the water.
When they build on the bank of a running stream, they make a dam(堤坝)across the stream for the purpose of keeping the water at the height they wish. These dams are usually made of mud(泥), stones and the branches of trees. They are sometimes six or seven hundred feet in length and are built so well that they look more like the work of man than of little animals.
Their huts are made of the same material as the dams and are round in shape. They start building their houses late in the summer but do not get them finished before the early frost(霜冻). ______ makes their huts tighter and stronger, so they keep working when it’s freezing.
A long time ago, heavers were hunted for their fur. A hunter once saw five young beavers playing. They were jumping on the branches of a tree that lay near a beaver dam and pushing one another off into the water. He moved forward very slowly and was about to fire at the little animals. But their funny tricks reminded him so much of his little children at home that he thought it would be inhuman to kill them. So the gentleman left them quietly.

When you were at school, were you ever told to stop daydreaming and concentrate? It was easy for your mind to wander if you weren’t interested in what you were learning or if you had better things to think about. Staying focused can still be a challenge in adult life, but understanding how to do it, and knowing what is distracting you can help. Scientists have looked at what makes us delay and found a number of ways to help us stay in the zone.
One of the most obvious things is eliminating (排除) noise. Research by Science Focus magazine found silence is best for concentration, or a gentle background hum and coffee shop noise is great! I also found turning off notifications on your phone, or switching it off altogether, removes a major distraction and helps us focus on the task at hand.
Another possible cure for a short attention span is brain training. Scientists are increasingly interested in our ability to buckle down (全力以赴) and have looked at what we can change inside our head to make us concentrate. An Attention Researcher has found that making a task more visually demanding takes up more processing power and leaves the brain nothing left to process distractions. So, keeping your mind busy might be the answer.
There are more practical tips to keeping your mind focused. These include making a timetable of the tasks you have to do, finding a workspace where you’re not tempted to do other things, or chewing some gum! It’s possible the movement in your mouth occupies parts of the brain that might otherwise get distracted.
56.What can not help us focus on the task at hand?
A.Silence. B.A gentle background hum and coffee shop noise.
C.Turning on notifications on your phone. D.Switching your phone off.
57.What does the underlined word “distracting” probably mean?
A.Interest. B.Trouble. C.Excite. D.Surprise.
58.How many tips does the writer give to keeping focused?
A.Three. B.Four. C.Five. D.Six.
59.Which is TRUE according to the passage?
A.Knowing what is distracting you can’t help.
B.Staying focused isn’t a challenge in adult life.
C.Keeping our mind busy might make us concentrate.
D.The movement in your mouth makes you get distracted.
60.What is the best title for the text?
A.The researches about keeping focused. B.How to stay focused.
C.The benefits of keeping focused. D.Why people should stay focused.
根据“Staying focused can still be a challenge in adult life, but understanding how to do it, and knowing what is distracting you can help.”
根据“One of the most obvious things is eliminating (排除) noise.” “Another possible cure for a short attention span is brain training.”及“These include making a timetable of the tasks you have to do, finding a workspace where you’re not tempted to do other things, or chewing some gum!”
根据“An Attention Researcher has found that making a task more visually demanding takes up more processing power and leaves the brain nothing left to process distractions. So, keeping your mind busy might be the answer.”

a number of “许多”,后加名词way的复数,故填ways。

I will never forget the tenth summer of childhood with my grandfather in western Norway at the mountain farm where my mother was born. As a boy, I always thought people simply bought whatever they needed. Whether grandfather knew this, I don’t know. One day he said, “Come, I have something for you.”
I followed him to a workroom. “You should have a toy boat. You can sail it at Storvassdal.” He said. Great, I thought, looking around for the boat. But there was none.
Grandfather pointed to a block of wood. “The boat is in there,” he said. Then he handed me some tools and showed me how to use them properly. “It’ll be a fine boat, and you’ll make it with your own hands,” he said, “No one can give you what you do for yourself.” The words rang in my head as I worked. Finally I finished the boat. It wasn’t much to look at, but I was proud. Then I sailed it at Storvassdal.
We had to return to America. “You can not bring that boat home with you,” my mother said. We already had too much baggage. Feeling sad, I hid my boat under a big rock at Storvassdal.
I said good-bye to grandfather, not knowing I would never see him again.
In 1964, I went to Storvassdal with my parents and my wife and children. To my surprise, for 34 years my treasure stayed here, waiting for my return. I felt we three were together again although my grandfather had died 22 years before.
I carved “1930” and “1964” on its side and put it back.
I returned to the lake in 1968,1971,1977 and 1988. Each time I had the boat and carved the year, my grandfather seemed near.
My last trip to Storvassdal was in 1991. I brought my granddaughters: Catherine, 13; Claire, 12. I hoped they would understand the importance of the little boat and its simple message. At Storvassdal, Claire said softly,“Grandpa, someday I’ll come back.” She added, “And I’ll bring my children.”
71.What is Storvassdal?

72.Why couldn’t the writer take the boat to America when he left his grandfather?

74.根据“In 1964, I went to Storvassdal with my parents and my wife and children. ”,“I returned to the lake in 1968,1971,1977 and 1988. ”和“My last trip to Storvassdal was in 1991. ”可知作者在爷爷离世后一共六次回到Storvassdal,故填Six times.
