An owl(猫头鹰)named Flaco escaped New York's Central Park Zoo last week after his cage was broken. This set off a bird-hunt of police officers and park rangers(护林员). Zoo officials worried that Flaco, who had been kept in his zoo cage for 13 years, may have lost the survival abilities he needed in the wild. They placed some of his favorite treats in the open air to attempt to trap him.
Flaco was not fooled. Instead, he was sighted flying over 5th Avenue, and Central Park's skating rink. A number of New Yorkers stamped into Central Park to try to catch a glimpse of Flaco, taking photos with excitement.
But this week, zoo officials announced they accepted that Flaco remained in Central Park because he had been seen bringing up bones and fur from the park's abundant community of rats."He has been very successful at hunting and consuming the abundant rats in the park." zoo officials told the New York Post."And that's amazing. He's hunting on his own. He's flying better. Flaco really seems to be enjoying himself out there."
There is a caution attached to this story of an owl who is making it on his own in the city that never sleeps. Owls are nocturnal. They go around searching for food at night. They sleep during the day, or try to, like lots of people who work the overnight shift. Yet some New Yorkers who don't know proper bird-watching behavior reportedly see Flaco sleep in a tree during the day, and begin to shout at him. It interrupts his sleep. Flaco can't try to say "shh, shh" with the traditional New York reply. After all, a bird can't give someone the bird.
24.Why were zoo officials concerned about Flaco's ability to survive?
A. Because his favourite food was too little.
B.Because he might be attacked by police.
C.Because his cage was severely damaged.
D.Because he was kept in his cage for long.
25.What can we infer about Flaco from the third paragraph?
A. He has adapted to the wild.B.He has found his previous home.
C. He still faces great challenges.D. He dislikes the rats in the park.
26.What does the underlined word "nocturnal" in paragraph 4 mean?
A.Scary-looking.B. Shy and quiet.
C. Active at night.D. Badly-behaved.
27.Which word best describes the author's attitude to the interruption to Flaco's sleep?
A.Cautious. B. Favorable.
C. Ambiguous. D. Disapproving.

Students at Eindhoven University of Technology didn't just want to build a car that wouldn't pollute the air; they wanted to create one that could actually clean it up.
The college team has just exhibited a battery-powered car that absorbs CO₂. Their car, called the Zem, is equipped with a special filter(过滤器)that cleans up the CO₂ produced by other cars on the road.
The Zem was born out of a challenge to build a completely carbon-neutral vehicle. Its body panels(金属板)were 3D printed to reduce waste and minimize the production of CO₂. Recycled plastics were also used throughout the outside and inside. The car's power train, which consists of small battery packs and a 22-kWh motor, also makes use of regenerative braking to increase efficiency.
The real difference maker, though, is the vehicle's special CO₂ filter. The Zem purifies(净化)the air through the special filter while driving, capturing the CO₂ and storing it. It is able to absorb two kg of CO₂ for 20,000 miles a year, meaning ten cars could store as much carbon dioxide as an average tree—a significant amount when considering the world's billion cars are currently one of its leading sources of emissions.
Even if the technology isn't adopted, the team hope that their car can inspire automakers to start making cleaner vehicles."We want to encourage the industry by showing what is already possible,"the leader of the team said."If 35 students can design, develop and build an almost carbon-neutral car in a year, then there are also opportunities and possibilities for the industry."
The Zem is the second zero-emission vehicle we've seen come out of the Eindhoven University of Technology. Last year, another team of students created the Stella Vita, a solar-powered vehicle that could travel up to 450 miles a day. We can't wait to see what the school's students come up with next.
28.Why can the Zem absorb CO₂?
A. It is battery-powered. B. It has a special filter.
C. It is created by using 3D printing. D. It has reusable body panels.
29.What do we know about the building of the Zem?
A. It is time-consuming. B. It is financially secure.
C. It is physically demanding. D.It is environmentally-friendly.
30.What can be inferred about the Zem from the fourth paragraph?
A. It can capture the CO₂ and dispose it. B. It is able to absorb CO₂ as much as a tree.
C. It has a huge potential to reduce pollution. D. It can run 20,000 miles on a single charge.
31.What does the author expect the students to do?
A.Invest in research. B. Inspire confidence.
C. Innovate further. D. Introduce technology.

When my Aunt Nicki visits me in London, we avoid musical theater and the cinema. Aunt Nickiis hard of hearing. Although there are many enhanced listening devices available to help her, such as a closed captioning(配字幕的)screen that sits in a cup holder, she tells me they don't work well enough.
When I recently tried on the new"smart caption glasses"at the Royal National Theatre, I had her on my mind. The theater is testing a pilot program for the technology and plans to make the glasses available for all of its performances next year. When you look through them, closed captions scroll(滚动)across the bottom. A handheld keypad is attached to the glasses through cable(电缆线)to allow each user to customize the color, size and position of the closed captions. Changing the positioning of the text is key for user comfort.
The biggest challenge is finding the sweet spot of balancing the captions in the foreground with the theater performance in the background. The lines of the play are fed into speech software, which follows the performance and adjusts the captions accordingly."If a performer jumps a few lines, the system will react," said Jonathan Suffolk, the technical director for the Royal National Theatre."It will take a second or two but the system will react and it will recognize where it is."
Richard France—who works for a group called Deafinitely Theatre, which creates performances for both the deaf and hearing communities—has worked with many different technologies but calls the smart glasses a potential game changer."This new technology allows the deaf and hard of hearing to have complete access,"he said."It's really amazing how far we've advanced and how it has positively affected the quality of life for people who are deaf and hard of hearing."
So perhaps the next time Aunt Nicki comes to London, we'll be able to catch a show together.
32.Why does the author mention Aunt Nicki in paragraph 1?
A. To present his opinion. B.To introduce the topic.
C. To provide an example. D.To give the background.
33.How do users control the closed captions on smart glasses?
A.By using a handheld keypad. B.By turning on the hidden text.
C.By scrolling across the bottom. D.By sending speech recognition.
34.What can we infer about the speech system according to Jonathan Suffolk?
A. It fails to find the balance point. B. It sometimes misses a few lines.
C.It responds to performers quickly. D.It refuses to change captions on the screen.
35.Which can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Smart Glasses: A Game Changer
B. Smart Glasses:A Symbol of Hope
C. Smart Glasses:A Solution to Blindness
D. Smart Glasses: A Revolution to Theatre

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。My mother's gift
A dandelion(蒲公英)in my dictionary always reminds me of my lunchtimes with my mother. When I was in the third grade, I was picked to be the princess in the school play, and for weeks my mother had painstakingly(费力地)practised my lines with me. But no matter how easily I delivered them at home, as soon as I stepped onstage, every word disappeared from my head. Finally,my teacher took me aside. She explained that she had written a narrator's part to the play, and asked me to switch roles.
I didn't tell my mother what had happened when I went home for lunch that day. But she sensed my unease, and instead of suggesting we practice my lines, she asked if I wanted to walk in the yard.
It was a lovely spring day and the rose leaves were turning green. We could see yellow dandelions popping through the grass in bunches, as if a painter had touched our landscape with a little bit of gold.
I watched my mother casually bend down by one of the dandelions."I think I'm going to dig up all these weeds," she said, suddenly pulling a flower up by its roots."From now on, we'll have only roses in this garden."
“But I like dandelions,"I protested."All flowers are beautiful—even dandelions.”My mother looked at me seriously."Yes, every flower gives pleasure in its own way, doesn't it?" she asked thoughtfully. I nodded, pleased that I had won her over."And that is true of people too," she added."Not everyone can be a princess, but there is no shame in that."
Relieved that she had guessed my pain, I started to cry as I told her what had happened." But you will be a beautiful narrator," she said, reminding me of how much I loved to read stories aloud to her."The narrator's part is as important as the part of a princess."
Over the next few weeks, with her constant encouragement, I learned to take pride in the role.Lunchtimes were spent reading over my lines and talking about what I would wear.

1.续写词数应为150左右;

Dear Bob.
Thanks for your letter. You do lots of sports at school in Canada. I'd love to play ice hockey with you one day.
We also have a variety of sports at our school. We've got a martial arts master and our class go to a martial arts class every Tuesday. We also play table tennis, basketball and football. Besides, there are lots of after-school sports clubs in our school, such as badminton clubs, gymnastics clubs, volleyball clubs and so on. What interests me most is swimming. I go to a swimming club after school on Sunday. I think swimming is great fun and it can help me become stronger, improve sleep quality and reduce stress.

读后续写
Backstage on the night of the performance, I felt nervous. I feared that I couldn't remember my lines on stage. Then a few minutes before the play, my teacher came over to me."Your mother asked me to give this to you," she said, handing me a dandelion. Its edges were already beginning to curl and it hung loosely from its stem. But just looking at it, knowing my mother was out there and thinking of our lunchtime talk made me proud.
After the play, I took home the flower I had placed in the pocket. When I showed it to my mother, she hugged me tightly and said,"I know you can make it." She held it gently and pressed it between two sheets of paper in a dictionary, smiling as she did it that we were perhaps the only people who would press such a sorry-looking weed. This dandelion often reminds of our lunchtimes together. I learned that love, first and foremost, means being there for the little things.
