Why are children so much more creative than adults? How does that creativity get crushed? What other great ideas do children have that are ignored?
Children have the benefit of not knowing what is not possible. For them everything is reasonable. What's more, young children get praise and encouragement from their parents and teachers for almost any work they do particularly for imaginative stories or weird pieces of art. They have heard tales of magic and they see around them technology doing all sorts of amazing things. Every problem can be solved for them. Adults on the other hand, are only too well versed in what they cannot achieve and what cannot be done. They are surrounded by rules, regulations, and laws. They have experienced failures and shame. At some stage, they have worked for a difficult boss who was not interested in their ideas--just in getting the job done on time.
If we want to be truly creative, we need to think like children again. We need to imagine a perfect solution and then ask“Why not?”. The daughter of Edwin Land asked this question when he told her that she could not see the photo he had taken straight away. Her persistence led him to invent the Polaroid camera. In similar fashion 11-year-old Richie Stachowski asked, “Why can’t we speak to each other underwater?” He invented an underwater speaking device. They show the need of having a childlike mind.
Of course, every invention or innovation has to exist a world of limitations. But if we start by imagining an ideal solution and then work back to overcome or accommodate limitations then we will have a better chance of success than if we start with all the obstacles in a clear view.
Be creative and try thinking just like a child. You did it all the time once, so now do it again.

①Many people may throw away the nuts after eating fruits, but inheritors of nut carving have instead collected them and turned them into artworks.
②“One nut, from 0.8 to 6 centimeters, can be made into fan pendants, earrings, buttons, seals, etc.” said Tan Wanhai, 48, an inheritor of Weifang nut carving.
③Weifang nut carving can date back to the Qing Dynasty. During that time, retired imperial craftsman Wang Dayan spread the skill to the local people in Shandong province. Craftsmen back then often used peach nuts to show off their artistic skills. Due to the high level of carving skills required and its rich artistic content which show many different elements, Weifang nut carving was listed as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2008.
④Tan has studied the art of nut carving for the past 25 years and has created many nut carvings along the way. Yet, the 48-year-old craftsman also said that the journey of bringing this kind of masterpiece to life is not always so easy. “Unlike some nuts like olive nuts which have a flat surface, each peach nut has its own special texture like human fingerprints,” Tan said, adding that craftsmen have to study each peach nut to carefully plan out their artwork.
⑤Craftsmen also need to have a lot of knowledge when it comes to carving nuts. According to Tan, they have to master skills in painting, seal carving and calligraphy from many traditional cultures. “In order to show traditional stories or legends from ancient times, I need to read many books to enrich myself.”
⑥It is this kind of devotion that Tan and others have that allows the heritage of Weifang nut carving to thrive in an era when many traditional skills are gradually disappearing.“In recent years, Weifang nut carving artworks have been increasingly welcomed by people in China thanks to their inventive design and creative ideas,” Tan said. This popularity, in turn, has also attracted many people to learn the skill of nut carving and even become inheritors to pass down the skill to future generations.

①fans ②seals ③buttons ④ earrings ⑤nuts
A. ②③④ B. ①②③ C. ②③⑤ D. ①④⑤

28. Why is nut carving not easy for craftsmen according to Tan Wanhai?

B. Because they need to be good at telling stories.
C. Because they need to master different kinds of skills.
D. Because they need to have knowledge about modern culture.

Have you watched the recent TV Three-Body? Changed by Liu Cixin’s science book The Three-Body Problem, the show is very popular with people. One of the most exciting part must be Operation Guzheng.
In order to find the important information on a huge ship, people plan to cut the ship into pieces. They set up many thin strings(线) across the river, which are made by high technology. Looking like Guzheng, the strings quietly cut the steel ship into pieces as if the ship was soft tofu!
Is it possible to cut ships with thin strings in real life? In fact, strings are very good at cutting. For example, the egg cutting machine uses thin strings to cut eggs into pieces. A kite line can easily hurt people if it gets circle around their necks. This is because the thin strings have a very small contact area, leading to a high intensity of pressure (压强) when they cut things.
In the program, the strings are as thin as human hair. To cut the ship, the pressure needs to be 200 MPa. How strong is that pressure? Imagine an elephant standing on a string! In real life, scientists won’t be able to make such thin strings that wouldn’t easily break, at least for years to come. The cutting will also create lots of heat. We don’t have the things to bear (忍耐) that high temperature while it’s also thin enough to cut through. It’s still far away from the technology in the program.
31. What is the purpose of Operation Guzheng in the program?
A. To find a huge ship. B. To cut the ship into pieces.
C. To get important information. D. To turn the ship into soft tofu.
32. What does “steel” in Paragraph 2 mean in English?
A. hard B. huge C. soft D. smooth
33. How does the writer tell us “strings are very good at cutting”?
A. By telling stories. B. By giving examples.
C. By showing numbers. D. By explaining rules.
349. What does the underlined sentence in Paragraph 4 want to tell us?
A. Making thin strings is easy. B. People break strings with machines.
C. Cutting things must use strings. D. People need strong pressure to cut ships.
35. Which part of the newspaper may this passage be taken from?
