On the morning of November 6, I went to work as a volunteer (志愿者) guide along with some of my schoolmates. I had never volunteered at an art museum before.
Our group was sent to the show called “Time-Space Post Office”. This show was made up of many letters from the visitors who had attended it before. The letters were about people’s understanding of the arts or their wishes.
Soon, we welcomed a group of visitors. I was afraid to speak to them. Instead, I just stood by. But slowly, I became less nervous. I tried to speak to an old man, “Hello, I am a volunteer guide for the show. You are now looking at Mr. Ding Yi’s ‘Time-Space Post Office’. I’d like to introduce this show to you,” “Here, we can see many letters written by our old visitors,” I continued. “In fact, everybody can become a part of this show. You, too, can write about the future—your thoughts, dreams and hopes.” The old man smiled at me and said, “Thank you, boy! You just did a wonderful job!” After hearing those words, I was so proud.

Mind maps are a great way of showing a picture of information that you need to learn. You can use mind maps for all kinds of learning. They work very well for vocabulary when you are learning a new language. |
Draw a circle in the middle of the page and write the vocabulary subject in the middle. For example:transport |
Brainstorm some word groups for transport and think of headings for each one. For example:•sea transport •land transport •air transport For each one, draw a short line from the centre circle outwards. Add another circle and write the new group word in the middle. |
Look at each group and try to add more groups. For example, in “land transport” there are two sub-groups:•road •rail Draw two more lines, add two more circles and write the two new headings inside them. |
When you can’t make any new groups, add a line for each word you know. Write the words along the lines or, if you have space, write them inside more circles. |
As you learn new vocabulary, add it to the mind map. |
To make the mind maps even better, use colours to show important ideas or parts of the map. |

Suppose that you have some free time to kill. There is an enjoyable short video to watch and an interesting 1,000-word article to read. You can only choose one of the two. Which one will you pick?
Perhaps the video will be your choice. Over the past few years, watching videos online has become a part of many people’s daily lives. The number of people patiently reading long articles, meanwhile, has been cut down. Some people fear that video will one day replace (代替) text. But in my opinion, this isn’t going to happen.
Videos can in fact help us learn new information more quickly. However, can they help us fully learn about the ancient world? Many historical stories were recorded using only texts. Only through the reading of these texts can we truly and fully learn about what happened during the ancient world and the knowledge people had got.
Short videos are a type of “instant culture”. They come into and leave our minds like flying cars. Oftentimes, we can’t help but look for the second video immediately after we’ve finished watching one. But can we always remember and understand the contents (内容) of these videos? When we read a long article patiently, we often pay close attention to the contents. What’s more, texts allow us to use our imagination, while videos don’t.
In a word, video might change the way people learn about the world and the way they make themselves happy, but texts will never be replaced. Texts are like immortal (不朽的) stars which shine from the past to the future.
31.What is the writer trying to do in the passage?
A.To give advice. B.To ask for help. C.To show ideas. D.To express feelings.
32.How can people fully learn about the ancient world according to the writer?
A.By reading texts. B.By using imagination.
C.By watching videos D.By talking with old people.
33.What may the underlined word “instant” mean?
A.Slow. B.Quick. C.Small. D.Big.
34.Why does the writer think people will choose to watch a short video?
①The 1,000-word article is not interesting at all.
②Fewer people can patiently read long articles now.
③Watching videos online takes up people’s daily lives.
④Some people fear that video will one day replace text.
A.①② B.①③ C.②③ D.②④
35.What’s the main idea of the passage?
A.Texts will never be replaced. B.Texts take long time to understand.
C.Videos are enjoyable and popular. D.Videos are the best to kill free time.

One can’t discuss Chinese music without mentioning the Chinese seven-string zither (七弦琴), also known as the guqin, one of the four arts—along with go (围棋), calligraphy (书法) and painting. It first appeared over 3, 000 years ago.
At first, the guqin had only five strings, standing for the five elements(元素) of metal, wood, water, fire and earth. Later, in the Zhou Dynasty, King Wen of Zhou added a sixth string for his son. King Wu of Zhou added a seventh string to the guqin to encourage his army to fight with the Shang.
The environment that people played the guqin was important. In general, it was practiced in quiet environment and never for public show. Ancient artists enjoyed performing by a river in the mountains. The sound of the guqin mixed with the echoes(回音) from the mountains, until the musician found himself at one with nature. Playing it in snow was also an enjoyable activity for ancient artists, who believed the instrument was the best of its kind in the world. A night with moonlight was considered perfect for playing the guqin. Wang Wei, a very talented man of the Tang Dynasty, liked playing it in a bamboo forest on nights with moonlight most.
The guqin is a valuable treasure in Chinese culture. So the guqin and its music was added to the list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity(人类非物质文化遗产) in 2003.

Do you usually do some exercise? In my opinion, exercise is important for both our health and study. First, exercise keeps us fit. It makes our heart and body strong. It also gives us more energy. Second, exercise does good to our study. It makes us relaxed and brings us an active mind. I ride my bike to school in the morning and run for 20 minutes in the evening. On weekends, I often play football with my friends. I get enough exercise every day. Try to find your ways to get exercise. Remember to take a short exercise when you get tired after a long time study. Exercise is really good for everyone. Let’s keep exercising every day!
