Meeting people from another culture can be difficult. From the beginning, people may send the wrong signal, or they may pay no attention to signals from another person who is trying to develop a relationship.
Different cultures emphasise the importance of relationship building to a greater or lesser degree. For example, business in some countries is not possible until there is a relationship of trust. Even with people at work,it is necessary to spend a lot of time in“small talk”, usually over a glass of tea, before they do any job. In many European countries—like the UK or France—people find it easier to build up a lasting working relationship at restaurants or cafes rather than at the office.
Talk and silence may also be different in some cultures. I once made a speech in Thailand. I had expected my speech to be a success and start a lively discussion; instead there was an uncomfortable silence. The people present just stared at me and smiled. After getting to know their ways better, I realised that they thought I was talking too much. In my own culture, we express meaning mainly through words, but people there sometimes feel too many words are unnecessary.
Even within Northern Europe, cultural differences can cause serious problems. Certainly, English and German cultures share similar values; however, Germans prefer to get down to business more quickly. We think that they are rude. In fact, this is just because one culture starts discussions and makes decisions more quickly.
People from different parts of the world have different values, and sometimes these values are quite against each other. However, if we can understand them better, a multicultural environment will offer a better chance to us to understand and learn from each other.

If you saw a digital image of yourself running on a virtual treadmill (跑步机), would you feel like going to the gym? Probably so, according to a Stanford study showing that personalized avatars can motivate people to exercise and eat right.
Moreover, you are more likely to follow the behavior of an avatar in real life if it looks like you, said Jesse Fox, a researcher at the Stanford Virtual Human Interaction Lab. In her study, she used digital photographs of participants to create personalized avatar bodies.
In Fox’s first test, some participants saw their avatar running on a treadmill. Others saw themselves hanging out in the virtual room or saw a running avatar they didn’t know.
Fox contacted participants a day after the study and found that the people who saw their own avatar running were more likely to exercise (after they left the lab) than the people who saw someone else running or saw themselves just hanging out in the virtual room. In fact, those who watched themselves running were motivated to exercise, usually, a full hour more than the others. They ran, played soccer or worked out at the gym.
“They had imitated their avatar’s behavior,” Fox said.
In another test, some participants ran in place while watching their avatars become thinner, other participants stood still and watched their avatars become heavier, and others saw an unfamiliar avatar either slim (变苗条) or fatten.
“If they saw a person they didn’t know, they weren’t motivated to exercise. But if they saw themselves, they exercised more,” Fox said. “Personalized avatars could be used to motivate healthy behavior. For example, someone on a long-term weight loss schedule could pull out his or her smartphone and track progress by watching the avatar body slim down onscreen.”
5.What did Jesse Fox do for her study?
A.She let participants choose avatars according to their body shape.
B.She created personalized digital images for participants.
C.She took different photos to record participants’ changes.
D.She learned about participants’ behavior before her study.

    A.Stopped. B.Copied. C.Changed. D.Controlled.
7.What can we learn from Jesse Fox’s words in the last paragraph?
A.People’s own avatars motivate them more than unfamiliar ones.
B.Avatars can help people develop long-term healthy habits.
C.The research on personalized avatars needs further study.
D.Watching avatars can help people lose weight quickly.
8.What is the best title for the text?
A.How to improve avatar technology in smartphones
B.How to make a good connection with our avatars
C.Can avatars influence our personal relationships?
D.Can avatars change the way we think and act?

Can you remember the first time you learned to ride a bike or drive a car? Learning these skills changed your life forever and opened up new horizons (眼界;范围). Learning about computers can be like learning how to ride a bike or drive a car. Once you have invested the time to master the skills, you will never go back to the old days. The new technology is simply too convenient and too powerful.
Technological developments through the years have enabled us to do more with less effort. We have continuously looked for better ways of doing things. Each invention and new development has allowed us to extend our capabilities. Today we see one of the most dramatic technologies ever developed the computer. It extends the capabilities of our minds.
Computers have saved organizations millions of dollars. Furthermore, these same computer systems have opened up new opportunities that would have gone undiscovered or neglected. The computer may multiply what we can do, and the return on investment is high. The growth of computer usage is surprising. On the other hand, the computer can do serious damage. Invasion of privacy (侵犯隐私), fraud (欺诈), and computer-related mistakes are just a few shocking examples.
The computer is like a double-edged sword. It has the ability to cut us free from some activities, but it can also cut deep into profits, personal privacy, and our society in general. How it is used is not a function of technology. It is strictly a function of how people decide to use or misuse this new technology. The choice is yours, and only through a knowledge of computer systems will you be able to avoid the dangers while enjoying the many, many benefits of the computer age.
9.The writer thinks learning about computers is like learning how to ride a bike or drive a car because _______.
    A.it is simple and practical
B.it needs a lot of practice
C.it leads people to new life experiences
D.it takes much time to master the skills
10.According to the passage, computers bring people the following benefits except _______.

Hundreds of little robots are rolling around colleges and cities in the United States, Britain and elsewhere. The robots, about 50 centimeters tall, are bringing food like pizza to hungry students.
The Starship robots were being tested in limited numbers before the pandemic started. But pandemic-related worker shortages and a desire for contactless delivery have expanded their use. “We saw demand for robot usage just go through the ceiling,” said Alastair. He is the head of Starship Technologies, whose robots recently made their 2 millionth delivery. “I think demand was always there, but it was brought forward by the pandemic effect.”
The Starship robots use cameras, sensors and GPS to move around and even cross streets on their own at the speed of 8 kilometers per hour. Operators keep watch on several robots at a time but they say they rarely need to stop or move them around a barrier. When a robot arrives, people enter a code from their phones to open the robot and get their food.
There are some limitations for now. The Starship robots have to be recharged regularly. They are slow and cannot travel far. They cannot leave food at the door. And big cities like New York and London are not welcoming them.
Maloney is the vice president at Domino’s Pizza. His company is testing robots from Nuro, a California-based company. The Nuro robots are about 1.8 meters tall and can travel at a top speed of 40 kilometers on streets, not sidewalks. Maloney said Nuro delivery costs more than using human drivers for now. But as the technology gets more popular, the costs will go down.
Witcher is a technology expert with Forrester. He said it is easy to get excited about robots. But they will need to prove to companies they are better than human delivery drivers. It is “the right time and place for companies considering robots to test them and learn from them and do their own evaluation.”

    C.They should be recharged frequently.
D.They travel at a speed of 18 km per hour.
14.What does Maloney think of Nuro delivery?
A.It is cheap. B.It is promising.
    C.It isn’t fast enough. D.It isn’t worth testing.
15.Which statement will Witcher probably agree with?
A.Robots should be tested and evaluated.
B.Robots should be applied in villages soon.
C.Robots should be put into massive production.
D.Robots are less popular because of the pandemic.

For Jeannie, a mother of three living in New York City, kindness starts first thing in the morning. Though she doesn’t work until the afternoon, she gets up around 5 a.m. to spend some quality family time around the kitchen table before seeing her daughter off to school.
Jeannie makes a point to add kindness to every aspect of her life, from being a community member to parenting to her job. “I want to be a living example not just to my kids, but to anyone I come across,” she says. “I don’t wait to be kind. I just go forward.”
Growing up, Jeannie’s mother taught her the golden rule: treat others the way you want to be treated. Today, she has conveyed similar values to her own children. “And when we go grocery shopping, we always buy some extra food that we can offer to anyone we see who might be hungry.” she says.
Kindness comes in handy in Jeannie’s place of work, too. “I deal with various attitudes every single day,” she laughs. “I’m the one residents call when they need help. It’s important that they know that I’m there to listen and that I’m going to take care of them as quickly as possible.”
Not only does Jeannie’s family inspire her to be kind, but her community does, too. “I see little acts of kindness that continue to grow,” Jeannie explains. “Watching someone offer their seat to an elderly person or someone with a disability, or help someone else carry a stroller or shopping cart up the stairs - that’s how I grew up. Making the best of any and every situation, especially for others.”
16.Why does Jeannie get up as early as 5 a.m.?

The first person to live to 150 may already have been born, according to scientists. Worldwide life expectancy has more than doubled in the last 200 years and recent research shows it yet to reach a peak. So, what will life look like living to see your great-great-grandchildren and beyond?
Longevity (长寿) is one of the modern world’s great successes and science is beginning to find evidence that our genes have a lot to do with whether we will live a longer life. Researchers at Harvard Medical School in the US are convinced they have found a so-called “longevity gene” and are testing whether the addition of this gene to mice extends their lives. The long-term aim is to find a way of controlling the gene to add an extra decade or two to human life with gene therapy.
But, what other factors can you adopt now to extend your life? Firstly, exercise regularly. Just 30 minutes of gentle exercise three times a week can add years to our life expectancy. Secondly, a little of what you like does you good! Scientists believe that having small amounts of things we would normally classify as harmful might be good for us, such as chocolate, coffee or sunbathing! Thirdly, where you live can influence your life. So try to live somewhere peaceful and quiet where you get on with your neighbours.
Other factors include eating a healthy diet high in fruit, vegetables, fibre and Omega-3 oils, and keeping an active mind. A sense of community can help too, keeping in touch with family and friends.
So, living to 150 might be a realistic expectation for teenagers today thanks to future scientific advances. There is a certain amount of destiny with the genes you are born with but also you can help yourself by ensuring you stay fit and healthy for longer.
20.What do researchers at Harvard focus on?
    A.Diet. B.Mind. C.Gene. D.Exercise.

22.What is the author’s attitude towards living to 150?
    A.Unclear. B.Optimistic. C.Indifferent. D.Pessimistic.
23.Which can be a suitable title of the text?
A.How to Live to 150 B.Genes Decide Lifetime

When one door closes to Li, another one opens. Born with severe hearing loss, Li has found her way to communicate with the world—through painting. Moreover, painting led Li to meet her husband Hu at the Changsha Vocational and Technical School. Losing his hearing due to medication when he was 1 year old, Hu is also an art-lover.
Before learning to paint in primary school, Li always felt lonely in a silent world. She knew she was different from her peers because she could not hear. But a painting class opened for her a door to creativity and away of expression.
Graduating from college in 2005, Li got a job as a typist at a public institute in Zhuzhou, Hunan. It was a decent job in the eyes of her father, but Li was not happy because she could not communicate with other colleagues and the lonely feeling from childhood came back.
In 2016, Li quit the job and joined her husband’s company, which specializes in 3D wall and ground paintings, to be a wall painter. All the five painters there are hearing-impaired. “I know how difficult it is for hearing impaired people to find a job. So I want to help those who are passionate about painting to pursue their dreams,” said Hu, adding that the company is more like a family.

It’s easy to think festivals are just about drinking and dancing, but festivals are also representatives of what a certain way of life thinks, the way they express themselves. I’ve been to over 60 festivals in 22 different countries, and I still want to experience more. One of the main reasons I enjoy going to international festivals so much is the fact that they are a microcosm of what they represent. Festivals are an opportunity to see as much as possible in a weekend into worlds so different, or even familiar, of my own.
Festivals are a fascinating insight into a group of individuals with a common understanding and the world they are living in. This is also one of the reasons I enjoy international festivals.
I ticked off a huge bucket list festival in Lake of Stars Festival in Malawi a few years ago. I was unwell and not my usual party self, but, it gave me the opportunity instead to sit and listen to the local poets. Through their poetry they enlightened me to some of the issues of the day—calling out their “fat government” and covering everything from housing, to relationships, to the nominal (名义上的) opportunities.
The importance of celebrating festivals abroad isn’t just to gather with your “tribe”. What I learned in a few poems at Lake of Stars Festival were fascinating insights into modern social issues and the Malawi of the present, which I would have had to dig deep to find out. And I probably wouldn’t have bothered to, to be honest.
Even if only for a weekend, what I learned there from the poets and artists gave me a better understanding of what life was like in Malawi.
You never know what you’re going to learn when you visit a new festival. That’s all part of the fun and expectation.
Comedy makes current social issues fun, music makes them melodic (有旋律的), while poetry makes them considered and heartfelt. Festivals bring you them all.
34.What does the underlined word “microcosm” in Paragraph 1 probably mean?
    A.Different views. B.Mixed reaction.
    C.Small world. D.Rare opportunity.
35.Why does the author like experiencing worldwide festivals?
A.He likes having fun with others.
B.He can learn about the world.
C.He expects to get job opportunities there.
D.He enjoys tasting a variety of drinks and food.
36.What does the author think of Lake of Stars Festival?
    A.Instructive. B.Informal. C.Usual. D.Boring.
37.What is stressed in the text?
    A.The author’s wishes B.The greatness of poets.
C.The differences between festivals D.The significance of festivals.

Japanese archaeologists (考古学家) have uncovered al 7.5-foot-long irons sword and a bronze mirror from an ancient tomb near the city of Nara. Researchers found both artifacts while unearthing a l,600-year-old site called Tomio Maruyama.
The weapon, known as a dako sword, is so large that it was likely never used for self-defense, serving instead as a means of protection against evil after death. Like other dako swords unearthed in the country, this one looks like a snake. Due to the artifact’s size, the researchers initially thought they had found multiple swords lined up next to each other.
Experts said the mirror, which is shaped like a shield (盾), was also likely used to shun evil spirits. It measures 25 inches by 12 inches and weighs more than 12 pounds, making it the largest of its kind discovered in Japan, too.
The finds offer new insights into the Kofun period, which lasted from around the year 250 AD to 538 AD and is named for the distinctive tomb mounds, constructed to bury members of the ruling class. Kosaku Okabayashi, the deputy director for Nara prefecture’s Archaeological Institute of Kashihara, said, “These discoveries indicate that the technology of the Kofun period is beyond what had been imagined, and they are masterpieces in metalwork from that period.”
Japan is home to an estimated 160,000 burial mounds from the Kofun period, though the Tomio Maruyama kofun is particularly large. Measuring 350 feet in diameter and up to 32 feet tall, it dates back to the late fourth century.
Archaeologists think it has some connection to an influential person who supported the rulers of the day, the imperial Yamato family. Based on the presence of the two artifacts, the dead person may have been involved in military and ritualistic matters. So far, the researchers have discovered a coffin but no human remains in the burial chamber.
38.How did researchers find an irons sword and a bronze mirror?
    A.By exploring an old tomb.
    B.By asking experienced local villagers.
C.By searching for much information online.
    D.By carefully studying historical materials.
39.What do we know about the iron sword?
A.It is in a very small size.
B.It looks like a sharp shield.
C.It was mainly used for self-defense.
D.It might be used to drive the evil away.
40.What does the underlined word “shun” in paragraph 3mean?
    A.Schedule. B.Design. C.Avoid. D.Express.
41.What is Kosaku Okabayashi’s attitude towards the two discoveries in paragraph 4?
    A.Negative. B.Appreciative. C.Unclear. D.Indifferent.

Have you ever thought that your dog can tell whether you look content or angry? Dogs may be able to distinguish (区别) between happy and angry human faces, according to the new research.
The researchers trained a group of 11 dogs to distinguish between images of the same person making either a happy or an angry face. During the training stage, each dog was shown only the upper half or the lower half of the person’s face. The researchers then tested the dogs’ ability to distinguish between human facial expressions by showing them the other half of the person’s face or images totally different from the ones used in training. The researchers found that the dogs were able to pick the angry or happy face by touching a picture of it with their noses more often than one would expect by random chance.
The research showed the animals had worked out how to apply what they learned about human faces during training to new faces in the testing stage. “We can rule out that the dogs only follow a simple cue (提示), like the sight of teeth, to judge the pictures,” said study author Corsin Muller. “Instead, our results suggest that the dogs realized that a smiling mouth means the same thing as smiling eyes, and the same rule applies to an angry mouth having the same meaning as angry eyes.”
“With our research, we think we can now confidently conclude that at least some dogs can distinguish human facial expressions,” Muller told Live Science. At this point, it is not clear why dogs seem to be equipped with the ability to recognize different facial expressions in humans. “To us, the most likely explanation appears to be that the basis lies in their living with humans, which gives them a lot of exposure to human facial expressions, and this exposure has provided them with many chances to learn to distinguish between them. But we still have much to do to prove it,” Muller said.
49.How does the author lead in the topic of the text?
    A.By giving a warning. B.By showing a saying.
    C.By making a comparison. D.By asking a question.
50.What were the dogs made to do in the research?
A.Touch their own noses. B.Receive physical training.
C.Recognize different faces. D.Show their own facial expressions.
51.What can we learn about the dogs from the research?
    A.They showed some judgement.
B.They only focused on human teeth.
    C.They couldn’t apply what they’ve learned.
D.They couldn’t distinguish between the pictures.
52.What did Muller say about the research finding?
A.It was very clear. B.It was meaningless.
C.It bothered humans too much. D.It needed to be further confirmed.

In China, most sleep or bedtime procrastinators (拖延者) are workers on the soul-sapping and horribly common 9-9-6 schedule (9am-9pm, six days a week) who, despite being exhausted, use their late-night, post-work hours to claw back some sense of self, even when they know they should be sleeping.
My situation — two small children plus full-time job — is embarrassingly far from their experience, and yet many of us in the west find ourselves doing the same things. The revenge bit — which might be better translated as “retaliatory” — is that we are avenging ourselves against our busy lives, either by staying up too late or by not going to sleep once in bed, often because we’re on our screens.
Dr. Lindsay Browning, sleep specialist and author of a new book, Navigating Sleeplessness, agrees “I am seeing many more clients who describe staying up later because they need alone time.” In China, it’s young people working brutal hours, but in Europe, studies suggest it’s also parents and students. But sleep procrastination can affect anyone who struggles with stress, extended working hours or inadequate downtime, which, in pandemic times, puts many more of us at risk.
Earlier this year, Caroline Newte Hardie set up Peace+Riot, a family-friendly cafe-bar in south London, specifically to give knackered parents more support. But long hours working on a new business have exacerbated her revenge procrastination habit. “If I finish working at midnight, I need an hour, as I’m wired, even though I’m tired. Before I had kids I never needed time to myself, but now I need at least an hour to catch my breath, especially if I’ve spent the day in problem-solving mode. If I went straight to bed, my life would be just work-childcare-work-childcare.”
One downside is that sleep vacancy has been shown to make us more likely to procrastinate the next day. “But lack of sleep increases impulsivity, which increases your likelihood of sleep procrastination. It’s almost a self-fulfilling prophecy that the less sleep that we get, the more impulsive we become and the more vulnerable we are to sleep procrastination.” “The consequences of sleep deprivation are endless,” says Dr. Chris Winter, neurologist, sleep specialist and author of The Rested Child and The Sleep Solution. “Cognitive decline, cardiovascular disease, stroke, obesity, diabetes, and numerous short-term performance issues — mood, concentration, memory, attention, decision-making — are all affected.” As Walker puts it: “The shorter your sleep, the shorter your lifespan.”
53.What will Caroline probably do if she finishes working at midnight?
A.Go out to catch her breath.
    B.Go on solving problems unsettled.
C.Spend some time on her children.
D.Spend some time on her own blog.

About five weeks ago, I noticed the skin of our pet lizard was growing dusty. It worried me. I reported the strange surface on the skin of the lizard to my husband and children the next morning. Seconds later, our lizard emerged from its tank with its old skin flowing behind it.
I didn’t think about it much until a morning last week when I knocked my favorite teapot off the table. It burst into hundreds of pieces. As I swept up the mess, I wondered why we had been breaking so many things over the months.
The destruction started three months ago. It was my husband’s birthday. He had just lost his job. The uncertainty was starting to wear on us, so I wanted to do something special.
“Let’s make a cake for Dad!” I cried.
My kids screamed with joy. We baked, iced and sprinkled for most of the day. Candles on the cake! Balloons on the walls! Flowers on the table!
Two hours before my husband came back home from another job interview, my daughter climbed up to grab a glass vase from a high shelf. It fell and crashed beside the cake. Tiny pieces of glass were everywhere. She sobbed loudly as I threw the cake away. My husband had banana pudding for his birthday.
Three days ago, the light in our living room suddenly went out. After several frustrating hours of unsuccessful attempts to fix it, my husband suggested watching the Michael Jordan documentary series The Last Dance.
The poignancy of Jordan retiring from his beloved basketball to play baseball and what had pushed him to make such a tough decision took me by surprise. As I watched him take off his basketball uniform and replace it with a baseball uniform, I saw him leaving behind the layer that no longer served him, just as our lizard had. Neither of them chose the moment that had transformed them. But they had to live with who they were after everything was different. Just like us. I realized that we have to learn to leave the past behind.
Humans do not shed skin as easily as other animals. The beginning of change is upsetting. The process is tiring. Damage changes us before we are ready. I see our lizard, raw and nearly new.
Jordan said that no matter how it ends, it starts with hope. With our tender, hopeful skin, that is where we begin.

Citigroup is making progress toward shrinking its gender pay gap. But it still has some work to do. Globally, the bank’s female employees earned 27% less than men did, according to a new report from the company. That’s a slight improvement over the 29% gender pay gap Citigroup reported for 2018.
This year’s analysis also found that the median income for minority workers in the US was 6% less than the median income for non-minorities, down from 7% last year.
These “raw gap” numbers are not adjusted for seniority (年资), job title or location, Citigroup said. The company began releasing numbers on gender pay in recent years amid pressure from investors. “The pay gap reflects a need to increase representation of women and US minorities in senior and higher-paying roles,” wrote Sara Wechter, Citigroup’s head of human resources, in a blog post.
When adjusted in terms of job titles, seniority and location, women at Citigroup earned 1% less than their male counterparts, according to the report.
Citigroup said that following a review of its global pay, it made pay adjustments as part of this year’s compensation cycle according to the blog post.
The company also said it has committed to increasing representation at the assistant vice president through managing director levels to at least 40% for women globally and 8% for black employees in the US by the end of 2021.
“Continuing to reduce our raw pay gap requires that we make progress on our representation goals,” Wechter wrote.
Across the US, female full-time, year-round workers were paid 82 cents for every dollar earned by a man, which is a gender pay gap of 18%, according to the Institute for Women’s Policy Research. And that may be underestimating the pay gap because when looking at pay over a 15-year period, women made just half of what men earned.
According to the IWPR, at the current rate of change it will take 40 years for women to achieve pay parity (对等). For women of color, it would take even longer.
A reporting rule put into place in the UK in 2018 requires companies with more than 250 employees to report data on gender pay disparities. Advocates for equal pay in the US are asking for similar disclosure requirements because research has shown that company disclosure leads to closing pay gaps.
61.The underlined phrase “raw gap” is closest in meaning to______.
    A.new space B.unrealistic difference
    C.original difference D.potential space
62.According to Sara Wechter, the pay gap requires ______.

C.that people should only shrink gender pay gap
D.the increase of representation of women and US minorities in senior and higher-paying roles
63.What can we learn from the passage?
A.Citigroup has finished shrinking its gender pay gap so far.
B.If the wage is adjusted in terms of job titles, seniority and location, women at Citigroup will earn more than men there.

No young person makes the decision to be a soldier lightly. As much as we support our children, we also have some fears. I remember so well when our son Jimmy decided to be a soldier after college. His father and I were so scared of what his decision might cost him. Sharing the news of his decision turned out to be a little bit scaring as well. We’d assumed that those around us, family, friends and community would join us in supporting him and honoring the decision he was willing to make. Most people we told respond positively.
But I also heard what my friends said like: “I’m so sorry. You must be disappointed with him.” and “Couldn’t you change his mind?” The hardest one came from the mother of our son’s high school friend. One day she asked if she could talk to me. “I hope you understand, but I’ve forbidden my son to have anything to do with yours,” she said. “I just can’t risk that my son Simon will see the decision your son has made as a possible choice for his life.”
These responses were upsetting to me, and I did my best to protect my son from them. But one night he shared that he had also heard similar comments. I asked him how he felt about that. He faced me with his answer. “These responses didn’t bother me. I know that not everyone can get what I’m doing. But there is something that I feel I must do. I believe that I’ll become a good soldier.” I knew then that he had made the decision for the right reason.
The reason why I’m sharing this today is to share tips on how to respond to this kind of announcement. The encouragement from family and friends is important. Those friends who backed Jimmy’s decision gave us strength. And we could share our struggles with them.

    A.Influenced. B.Doubted. C.Recommended. D.Supported.

A team of Chinese researchers have recently developed a new type of self-powered flexible and transparent(透明的) electronic skin to monitor human activities, shedding light on the future of wearable electronics. This new e-skin integrates a flexible transparent supercapacitor(超级电容器)as an energy storage device with a stretchable transparent strain sensor(应变传感器). Thanks to its mechanical softness, the integrated e-skin can be directly attached to various parts on the body.
As the largest organ of human body, skin is responsible for multiple major functions such as protection, perspiration (出汗) , regulation of body temperature, and sensory stimulation(感觉刺激) . It forms the basis of people’s physical interactions with the outside world.
The ideal e-skin should be highly sensitive, self-powered, and suitable for the human skin. “Inspired by sensory functions and performance of real human skin, we have made the new e-skin both flexible and transparent to serve multiple functions. After charging, it is capable of monitoring of people’s subtle physical signals and multi-scaled activities in real- time. It can measure a person’s pulse, tell when they are swallowing, and detect other body movements,” said Lan Wei, a professor at the School of Physical Science and Technology of Lanzhou University and the leader of the research team.
E-skin is the core of future wearable electronic devices. The new invention can be applied in smart health care, human-machine interaction, virtual reality and artificial intelligence. For example, it could help surgeons control surgical robots more precisely(精确地), enable people to “touch” over long distances, and create more immersive(沉浸式的) gaming experiences.

70.细节理解题。根据第三段中的“I asked him how he felt about that. He faced me with his answer. “These responses didn’t bother me. I know that not everyone can get what I’m doing. But there is something that I feel I must do. I believe that I’ll become a good soldier.”(我问他对此有何感想。他看着我答道:“这些回应并没有打扰我。我知道不是每个人都能理解我正在做的事情。但我觉得我必须做一些事情。我相信我会成为一名优秀的士兵。”。)”可知,当作者问Jimmy对那些评论感受的时候,Jimmy没当回事儿,而且还坚信自己将来是一名好士兵,由此可知,Jimmy确定自己当一名士兵。故选B项。
