    1.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写一段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
“If mum finds out that I’m going to the beach, I’ll be in big trouble.” I said to myself softly in a low voice. I went downstairs slowly and tried to walk quietly out of the house. As I was heading towards the back door, Mum asked “Where are you going?” I answered without hesitation, “I am going to the garden to play.” After I got out of the house, I breathed a sigh of relief(松了口气) and ran toward the bus stop at top speed. Half an hour later, I was at the beach playing volleyball happily with my friends, Jim and Bob. Nearby two young men were racing in the canoes(独木舟). Suddenly, Bob hit the ball too hard and the ball fell into the sea. Just as Bob was going to pick up the ball. A wave came in and carried the ball further and further away from the shore. I wanted to show off my swimming skills so I volunteered to help get the ball. I dived into the water and started swimming towards the ball. After swimming for about ten minutes, I became tired but when I saw the ball was only a few feet away from me, I put in an extra burst of speed. “Oh, no!” Another big wave swept the ball further away from me. Just at that moment, I found my feet got tangled(缠绕) by a string of weed(水草) and I couldn’t swim properly.

    2.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Charles Rose lived in the country with his father, who taught him to read and to write. Mr. Rose told his son that, when his morning lessons were over, he might amuse himself for one hour as he pleased.
There was a river near by. On its bank stood the hut of a poor fisherman, who lived by selling fish. His careful wife kept her wheel going early and late. They both worked very hard to keep themselves above want. But they were greatly troubled for fear that their only son should never learn to read and to write. They could not teach him themselves, and they were too poor to send him to school.
Charles called at the hut of this fisherman one day, to inquire about his dog, which was missing. He found the little boy, whose name was Joe, siting by the table, on which he was making marks with a piece of chalk. Charles asked him whether he was drawing pictures.
“No. I am trying to write,” said little Joe, “but I know only two words. Those I saw upon a sign, and I am trying to write them.”
“If I could only learn to read and write,” said he, “I should be the happiest boy in the world.”
“Then I will make you happy said Charles.” I am only a little boy, but I can teach you that.”
“My father gives me an hour every day for myself. Now, if you will try to learn, you shall soon know how to read and to write.”
Both Joe and his mother were ready to fall on their knees to thank Charles. They told him it was what they wished above all things.
So, on the next day when the hour came, Charles put his book in his pocket, and went to teach Joe. Joe learned very fast, and Charles son began to teach him how to write.
Some time after, a gentleman called on Mr. Rose, and said, “Charles did not always amuse himself. I often see him go to the house of the fisherman. I fear he goes out in their boat.”

    3.阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
Crash! The old black pickup truck in front of me stopped. I didn’t. I crashed into its back breaking the fender (挡泥板) and bending the driver’s door of my car. To make matters worse, it wasn’t my car. It was my father’s. I shouldn’t have been driving it, and now I had destroyed it.
A farmer jumped out of the truck, slowly and carefully, and looked at the damage. I sat sobbing (抽噎), my lip bleeding where I’d bitten it. He was in a hurry to leave, but we managed to exchange names and phone numbers before he pulled out onto the highway again. I followed, knowing I dared not go home. I’d be in big trouble.
It was my high school graduation day. I drove to school and climbed out through the passenger door. Surveying the broken fender and the door, tears flowed down my face, which was rapidly becoming swollen. I walked into the gym and joined my classmates to prepare for the graduation party. Bad news traveled fast, and soon a teacher came to me
“You’ll have to go home to get dressed for the graduation sooner or later,” she said. “Sooner would be much better and you have to tell your parents.”
I finally agreed and slowly drove home. The Death March sounded in my ears.
My mother took one look at my face when I got home and screamed, “What on earth happened?”
I hung my head and tears rolled down my face again. “I crashed Daddy’s car.”
She threw up her hands in panic and rushed to the backyard where Dad was making burgers. “Stop cooking, Ted. We’re not going to eat. Jean has destroyed your car.”
Dad looked at her and said quietly, “Is she hurt?”
“No, except for biting her lip.”
“Well, then, what does that have to do with eating dinner?” He put a burger on a plate with the others, then walked across the yard and put his arm around me. “Let’s go inside and hear all about this if you’re sure you’re all right.” I sobbed and nodded.

Last winter, Linda went through a very messy divorce and was very depressed. So she quit her job and left Los Angeles, where she encountered her ex-husband in college. She flew to Boston on the east coast of the US. Later, she settled in a new neighborhood in East Boston. However, shortly afterwards, the company where she worked went bankrupt (破产). Suffering a series of bitter blows, she fell ill, a severe case of flu. She had to stay at home for the whole week, feeling extremely bad and hopeless.
Early one morning, Linda lay in bed, feeling painful all over. Then all of a sudden, there was an upsetting knock on her front door. Struggling out of the bed, she dragged herself to the window. There, outside, she saw a young lady carefully holding some leaflets(传单)and a TV set model. She knew of a large TV set establishment nearby and assumed a message was about to be gently delivered. “This is the last thing I need today.” She muttered to herself and hesitantly opened the door.
Coughing bitterly, Linda stuck her head out. “Excuse me, madam…” the young lady said with a smile. “I’m sorry but I am not the slightest bit interested in any TV whatever.” Linda interrupted her impatiently. “As a matter of fact, I am feeling terribly awful.” “Is there anything I can do for you, madam?” the young lady asked with concern. “No thanks, just leave me alone.” Linda then shut the door in her face. The young lady politely turned and left in silence.

It was Christmas Eve. The small local train was almost empty. It was snowing very hard outside. Suddenly the train stopped and everyone wondered what was wrong.
Then the train conductor walked through the train. “I am very sorry,” he said to everyone. “The snow is too bad. We can’t go forward and we can’t go back. We have to stay here until the snow stops. And then someone will come and move the snow off the train tracks.”
“How long will we be here?” asked Melanie. “We have to get to Leeds by8: 30 pm to catch our train to Manchester.”
“I don’t know,” said the conductor. “But it is7: 30 pm now. I’m sorry. I don’t think we will get to Leeds in time.”
Melanie wanted to cry. When she married Craig in July, they moved to a small village in the Yorkshire Dales. She loved Craig very much, but life in the village was very quiet. She had not made any friends and she missed her family. She had not seen them since the wedding. She wanted to be with her family at Christmas.
Craig put his arms around Melanie. “It will be OK,” he said. “You will see your family tomorrow. The conductor was talking to a family with two children at the back of the railway carriage. The children were crying loudly. “But we have to be at Grandma and Grandad’s! We wrote letters to Santa. We told him we would be in Leeds on Christmas night! He won’t know where to find us. We won’t get any presents!”
Everyone was very unhappy. Everyone was talking loudly. They were shouting at the train conductor.
Then an old man stood up and said, “Everyone! Please calm down. I used to work on this railway line and know this kind of weather very well. I think we will be here until tomorrow morning, or maybe longer. So we must make our own Christmas Eve party. I have a bottle of whisky, a Christmas present for my brother. But I think I will share it with you.”

    6.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
It was a lovely spring morning in the mountains of my home. Here was full of natural atmosphere. The sky was blue, the sun was warm, and the air was fresh. As driving along the winding road, I could see thousands of wild flowers in bloom. When I turned round, I slowed down as I saw some volunteers picking up garbage along the side of the road. I just smiled as I saw them doing some cleaning in spring for Mother Earth and my mind suddenly floated back in time to another spring morning long ago.
When my children were younger, I used to walk along a small route around the lake near my home. It was also on a spring morning that I noticed much garbage lying along the route. The next day, I brought a big garbage bag and started to slowly pick up the garbage along my way. All kinds of deserted objects lay all over the floor. There were pop cans, plastic water bottles, wrappers for candy bars, empty chip bags, pieces of broken fishing line and even an old shoe. Every time I stopped, I picked up a piece of garbage. And I even fished some garbage out of the edge of the water. By the time I circled the lake, the garbage bag had been nearly full.
Tired but happy, I put the bag in an empty garbage can. I stopped before I headed home and took one last look at the lake as the sun set. It looked more beautiful than ever and I felt like the angels were looking down upon it with me and sharing my smiles.
I always think that at times this world’s problems can seem overwhelming and you may wonder what you can do to make a difference. But the truth is that every good thing you do matters a lot! I do believe every time I stop to pick up a single piece of garbage, I can make a difference. As my children are adults now, I decide to spend more time protecting the environment.

    7.阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
The sound of glass breaking is instantly recognizable. I’d been telling my best friend Missi a silly story and had spun (转) around in the living room when I heard that sound and froze.
When I looked down at the carpet, it was covered with pieces of sparkling red, pink and clear glass. Missi said. ”Oh, no, not the vase.”
“Why? What did I do?” My face reddened.
“Abby, that glass vase was one of the few items my relatives brought when they came to America,” Missi replied nervously. “If you’d broken anything else in the apartment, I would have gladly said I did it. But you’re going to have to tell my mom that it was your fault, and she’s going to be really mad.“
I was terrified. I’d destroyed a priceless family heirloom (传家宝). Why did I have to spin around like that?
We gathered up the shattered pieces.I kept saying that maybe it could be fixed, but Missi said gently it didn’t look possible. I insisted we keep the pieces. The glass was so fragile (易碎), like a colorful light bulb had exploded. Some of it broke even more as we tried to sweep it up carefully.
Missi said her mom would be home by six. My stomach was in knots. Would her mom yell at me or punish me? Would she tell me I couldn’t stay in their apartment for the weekend? I couldn’t stop playing the fifteen seconds over in my mind, me spinning fast and the sound of glass crashing. The only thing I could think of to say was “I’m sorry.”
A couple of minutes after six we heard a key turn in the door. Her mom was home. Right from the start, we could see she was in a good mood. “Hello! It’s hot today. I want to treat you girls to that frozen yogurt I know you like, Let’s go!” her mom said. She pointed at the open door.

Alexander sang all the time. He sang in the shower, he sang while he did his homework, and he sang while he walked to school. He simply loved singing. One day during a break, he heard Kevin talking about the tryouts(选拔)for the City Choir(合唱团).
“Yeah, I’m attending the tryouts this weekend,” Kevin announced. “With my voice, I’m pretty much guaranteed a spot. I don’t even need any practice as I am so talented. Imagine they’ll want me to perform lots of solos(独唱),too.”
Everyone knew that Kevin had a fantastic singing voice. Normally, Alexander just ignored him, but he couldn’t help imagining himself as a member of the choir. Wouldn’t it be fun, he thought, to sing with other kids every day and have someone actually teach him about singing?
On the tryout day, Alexander took a deep breath, walked into the building, registered at a large table, and then waited nervously in the hallway. The only one who didn’t look nervous was Kevin. And why should he be? He has performed as a soloist many times. Alexander, on the other hand, had never taken a musical lesson in his life, much less had performed for an audience.
After a while, the choir director, Mr.Robeson, walked in and told the kids that they were to sing a song individually, sing as a group and answer some questions. Soon the individual test began. When Alexander stood on the stage, he tried to calm down and pretended he was singing in the shower. He felt satisfied when he was done, at least until Kevin’s turn came. As Kevin³s confident voice filled the room Alexander realized that he would never sound that good.
Next, Mr. Robeson put the kids into groups of four or five and asked them to sing together. Kevin’s group sang right before Alexander’s, and even with four other boys singing, Kevin’s voice clear and distinct; it seemed to reach the farthest corners of the room.

John and Bobby joined a wholesale company together just after graduation from college the same year. Both they worked very hard. After several years, however, the boss promoted Bobby to the position of manager but John remained an ordinary employee. John could not take it anymore, submitted his resignation to the boss and complained the boss did not know how to delegate and did not value hard working staff, but only promoted those who flattered him.
The boss knew that John worked very hard for the years. He thought a moment and said, “Thank you for your criticism, but I have a request. I hope you will do one more thing for our company before you leave. Perhaps you will change your decision and take back your resignation.”
John agreed. The boss asked him to go and find out anyone selling watermelons in the market John went and returned soon. He said he had found out a man selling watermelons. The boss asked how much per kg? John shook his head and went back to the market to ask and returned to inform the boss of the price —$1.2 per kg.
The boss told John to wait a second, and he called Bobby to come to his office. He asked Bobby to go and find anyone selling watermelons in the market. Bobby went, returned and said, “Boss, only one person sells watermelons. $1.2 per kg, $10 for 10kg, he has a supply of 340 melons. On the table 58 melons, every melon weights about 2 kg and bought from the South two days ago, they are fresh and red, good quality. ” After the careful report, Bobby waited for the reply of the boss. 10.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使其构成一篇完整的短文。
Thick snow covered around my car. Everything around me was blanketed in white. The light was fading as the sun set over the rocky peaks.
I was driving up a mountain and it was supposed to be a four-hour trip from Red River, to Durango. I inched along on a winding, unfamiliar road in a snowstorm. I was on my way to meet my friend Jane, who was visiting her family in Durango. She’d invited me to join them for the weekend. The fastest way to Durango from Red River would be this mountain road. I was so excited about the weekend that I left without checking the weather.
Thirty minutes into my drive, the snow had started. It was gentle snow at first. I thought about turning around. Because it hardly looked threatening, I continued. Now I regretted that decision. But it was too late. The road was too narrow and icy for me to turn around. The snow was getting worse. The only way out was forward, higher and higher into the mountains. The last bit of sunlight disappeared, and I couldn’t see anything beyond the few feet lighted by my headlights.
My cell phone had lost service as soon as I’d entered the mountain pass and was powered off. I couldn’t call for help. I had some bottled water in the car and the clothes in my luggage. Maybe I could find a place to pull over and wear more clothes until morning. Would that be enough to keep me warm all night? How long would it take for someone to find me? “Everything will be fine,” I whispered.
Then I noticed a pair of lights seemed to glow dimly (隐隐发光) through the snowstorm. I opened my eyes wide and then drove ahead. There they were. Tail-lights! There was a car in front of me! At least someone was here with me. “Focus on the lights, not your fear,” I told myself.

    1.Possible version1:
I struggled to keep myself above the water but it was no use. The more I struggled, the more tightly I got tangled by the weed. I shouted at the top of my voice for help but on one came to my rescue. Soon I was out of strength and began to sink to the depths of the sea. The next moment I knew nothing. When I came to myself, I found I was lying on the beach, with Jim and Bob looking at me, worried. They told me the two young men dragged me out of water and gave me first aid.
    Possible version 2:
I struggled to keep myself above the water but it was no use. My feet seemed to be tied up. I tried to pull the weed again and again with all my efforts. Finally I made it. But I was so weak that I could hardly swim back to the beach. Just then, a strong wave came and I lost my consciousness. Waking up, I found myself lying in hospital with my worried mum sitting beside me. Later, I was told it was a passing ship that picked me up. I apologized to Mum and promised never to behave like this anymore.

There a pleasant sight met his eyes. Charles was at the table, ruling a copybook Joe was reading to him, while his mother was spinning in the corner. Charles was a little confused. He feared his father might not be pleased; but he had no need to be uneasy, for his father was delighted.

To our surprise, the farmer declined my father’s offer. Meanwhile, my mother helped treat my lip and swollen eyes with some ice. “Don’t worry about the car. Your safety matters most.” my father comforted me. To my great delight, they decided to accompany me to the graduation ceremony.
I graduated that evening with my family in attendance. With my parent’s company, I enjoyed an unforgettable and meaningful graduation ceremony. Even many years later, the laughter and sweet memory we shared together still lingered in my mind. Had it not been for my father’s unconditional love and encouragement, I would have been sunk in depression and guilt. I finished high school, growing into a loving and confident person. I was so grateful that my dad taught me what’s most valuable in my life.

I thought you may need this homemade chicken soup. Hope it might make you feel a little better. ”

Linda took the chicken soup gratefully, tears blurring her eyes and a lump in her throat. The lady wrapped Linda in her arms and patted her on the back. “It’s OK, dear. Everything will be fine.” Hearing these words, Linda felt a ray of bright sunshine lighting up her life.

I begin to encourage others to develop the environmental awareness. I know that there is power in numbers, and I want to get as many people involved as possible. I’ve convinced my children to take action with me like I did before. We learn to make many cards to hand out to people, with some words about environment protection written on them. We’ve also set up signs around the lake to remind people to pay attention to the environment. Other members of my family also go to the lake to pick up garbage on weekends.
Many days have passed, and the surroundings have improved a lot. Thanks to our efforts, the lake has taken on a new look. The surroundings are clearer and there is no more garbage floating on its water. There is little garbage on either side of the road along the lake. It is surprising that many people take their garbage away. Few people drop garbage here. I am pleased to note that more people actively volunteer to pick up the garbage. This gives us more confidence to protect our nearby environment.

I could feel my voice shaking and tried not to cry. “What is it, dear?” she gently asked, walking closer to me. Our hands almost touched. With her eyes studying me, my heart beat faster. “I’m sorry,” “I... I was talking and laughing with Missi when I spun around and accidentally broke the vase...we tried to fix it but in vain.”
Hearing my apology, Missi’s mother smiled at me. She embraced me, kissing me on both cheeks. “I know you didn’t mean it. Now it’s gone. Put it out of your mind.” Despite feeling relieved, I was still in shock, for this was not at all the reaction I had expected. It wasn’t until I reached my adult years that I realized how generous her mother was in welcoming my apology. Now, when I receive a genuine apology, I always consider the people’s feelings and make sure my response was fully heard and truly appreciated.(172w)

Then came the time for Alexander to sing with his group. He didn’t want to sound too loud. Instead, he thoroughly enjoyed singing with the others, trying his best to integrate his voice with theirs. Finally, Mr. Robeson asked the kids about their performance experience, music lessons and trainings. All Alexander could say was, “I just really enjoy singing, but I want to learn more and practice more.” He knew his answer was not perfect, but he was willing to do whatever it takes to become a better singer in the choir.
Finally, Mr. Robeson told Alexander that he made it, not Kevin. There must have been some mistake. “How did I make it, Mr. Robeson?” asked Alexander in disbelief. “Well, you love singing. Although your voice isn’t the best, with training it will improve.” “But, what about Kevin?” Alexander asked. “Talent alone is not enough,” said Mr. Robeson. “After all, we weren’t looking for soloists.” Alexander now understood that hard work and right attitude made a difference. He couldn’t wait for the choir practice in the coming week.

    9.Paragraph 1:
John realized the difference from Bobby. Shocked by Bobby’s perfect performance, John was lost in thought, unable to utter a single word. It was quite a while before John made his final decision. Instead of leaving the company like a drowned mouse, he decided to stay and prove his ability. “I am bound to make it!” John said to the boss with a determined look, taking back the resignation. After that, not only did John work harder than before, but he also learned from Bobby with an open mind. Thus, John made steady progress in his work.
    Paragraph 2:
John and Bobby were good partners for the company. Thanks to their cooperation and hard work, the company made a rapid development. Fortunately, affected by John’s efforts, the boss promoted him to the position of manager, too. Now it occurs to John that details determine success or failure. As an old saying goes, “No gold is red, no man is perfect.” Only with a humble heart to learn from others, can we constantly surpass ourselves and finally achieve success.

I could see the car’s tire tracks in my headlights. All I had to do was follow the tracks the rest of the way down the mountain. I drove slowly, keeping my wheels within the tracks every inch of the way. Soon I could see the lights of a town twinkling in the distance. The snow started to cover the tracks I was following. But both of us had made it.
After leaving the narrow mountain road, I got closer and the car I followed stopped. As I got closer, I saw it was a SUV. I pulled up beside it and rolled down my window. The driver of the car did the same. “Many thanks. I was really scared on my way. Fortunately, I followed you. It was your car’s light and tracks that gave me hope and encouragement.” The driver looked at me and smiled. “My pleasure. To tell you the truth I was also fearful at the heavy snow, but when I noticed there was a car behind me I felt much better.” In fact we hadn’t been alone on that mountain road at night.
