Most 5-year-olds are just learning their ABCs but one little girl from the UK has actually written a book that was published in January 2022. Bella-Jay Dark from Weymouth, is the world’s youngest female to be published and was awarded the title by Guinness World Records Her book, The Lost Cat tells the story of Snowy, a cat who got lost after going outside alone at night. She hopes the book will teach children not to go outside at night alone.
While many adult writers find inspiration for their books from life experiences, Bella’s creative vision actually came from one of her drawings. “It started off as a picture. My daddy said I could make a book and a story came from the picture,” Bella said.
Her mom, Chelsie Syme, was surprised that the book turned out as well as it did. “I am just really proud of her; I did not think it was going to go this far so I’m just proud and want to see her get the acknowledgement she deserves.”
But how do you get a child’s homemade book published? According to Syme, they took Bella’s book to a book fair and found a publisher willing to take a chance on it. Syme helped Bella with proofing copies (校对本) and making necessary changes. To earn the Guinness World Record title of The World’s Youngest Published Author, female, the book has to be published by a commercial publishing house and have at least 1000 copies printed and sold. Bella’s book met the criteria, so she was awarded the title.
Besides being an accomplished author, Bella is just a regular kid who enjoys reading, swimming, and playing on her tablet. In her free time, she is currently working on a sequel (续篇) to Snowy’s story. Who knows what pearls of wisdom will come next?
4. Who is Snowy?
A. A lost child. B. Bella’s pet.
C. A talented female writer. D. A cat in Bella’s work.
5. What is the inspiration of Bella’s book?
A. Bella’s life experiences. B. Bella’s interest in animals.
C. A picture Bella drew herself. D. A storybook bought by her father.
6. What does the underlined word “criteria” probably mean in paragraph 4?
A. Records. B. Standards. C. Guesses. D. Difficulties.
7. What can we infer about Bella?
A. Her father is a painter.
B. Her mother is strict with her.
C. She wants to help children with her book.
D. She pays much attention to protecting animals.
D 5. C 6. B 7. C

根据第一段“Her book, The Lost Cat tells the story of Snowy, a cat who got lost after going outside alone at night.(她的书《迷路的猫》讲述了一只名叫Snowy的猫的故事)”可知,Snowy是Bella书中的角色,一只猫。
根据第二段“While many adult writers find inspiration for their books from life experiences, Bella’s creative vision actually came from one of her drawings. “It started off as a picture. My daddy said I could make a book and a story came from the picture,” Bella said.(虽然许多成人作家从生活经历中寻找灵感来写书,但Bella的创意灵感实际上来自她的一幅画。Bella说:“一开始只是一张照片。我爸爸说我可以根据这幅画写一本书和一个故事。”)”可知,Bella写书的灵感来源于Bella自己画的一幅画。故选C。
【6题详解】
词句猜测题。根据文章第四段“To earn the Guinness World Record title of The World’s Youngest Published Author, female, the book has to be published by a commercial publishing house and have at least 1000 copies printed and sold.(要想获得吉尼斯世界纪录“世界上最年轻的出版作家”的头衔,这本书必须由一家商业出版社出版,并印刷和销售至少1000册)”和“so she was awarded the title(所以她被授予了这个头衔)”可知,Bella的书符合标准,所以她被授予了这个头衔,因此划线词criteria的意思是“标准”,和standards意思相近。故选B。

The world is drowning in plastic waste. The huge piles in landfill sites are growing fast. Therefore, it is most urgent to move away from the traditional linear economic model and change to a fully circular economy. To help this transformation, Igus, a Germany-based manufacturer of high-performance plastics, has been developing and investing in the work of recycling plastics for many years. The company is now showing the world a new product, the “igus: bike”, which is the world’s first urban bike produced almost entirely from recycled polymer (聚合物) .
Igus CEO Frank Blasé first got the idea while vacationing on a Florida beach. A conversation with employees at a rental company made him aware of the challenges of maintaining beach bicycles. The continuous exposure to sand, wind, and saltwater caused the bikes to rust (生锈) rapidly. Many had to be replaced in as little as three months. The igus: bike is zero maintenance and rust-free. It can be left outdoors in all weather and does not require lubricant oil to reduce friction between parts. Since it does not attract sand, dust, or dirt, the bike can be cleaned with a garden hose in seconds.
The igus: bike will also help relieve the world’s plastic pollution problems. The company says a single adult bike gives new life to about 35 pounds of single-use plastic that would otherwise block our landfills or waterways. For example, the first prototypes were made of material from old fishing nets. Currently, 90% of the igus: bike is made using plastic. Igus believes future versions will be made entirely from plastic.
The plastic bikes are expected to come to market in early 2023. An adult model, made entirely from recycled plastic, will cost about $1430. A slightly cheaper version made using new plastic is also in the works. Igus also plans on sharing its technology with other bicycle manufacturers. “We want to enable the bicycle industry to produce plastic bikes,” says Blasé.
8. Which statement is true about Igus?
A. It developed popular bikes in Germany.
B. It is devoted to recycling plastic waste.
C. It follows the model of a traditional linear economy.
D. It appeals to companies to invest in the bicycle industry.
9. What highlights the Igus: bike according to paragraph 2?
A. It is safer to ride. B. It will not rust rapidly.
C. It is easier to maintain. D. It consumes less energy to produce.
10. What does paragraph 3 mainly tell us about the Igus-bike?
A. Its huge market. B. Its complex design.
C Its multiple versions. D. Its environmental value.
11. What is the purpose of the text?
A. To introduce a newly invented plastic bicycle.
B. To stress the importance of technological innovation.
C. To raise people’s awareness of environmental protection.
D. To provide some advice on how to produce a new kind of bike.
B 9. C 10. D 11. A

根据第二段最后三句对于igus: bike优点的描述“The igus: bike is zero maintenance andrust-free. It can be left outdoors in all weather and does not require lubricant oil to reduce friction betweenparts. Since it does not attract sand, dust, or dirt, the bike can be cleaned with a garden hose in seconds.(igus:自行车是零维护和无生锈。它可以在任何天气下留在室外,不需要润滑油来减少部件之间的摩擦。由于它不吸沙、灰尘或污垢,用花园软管几秒钟就能清洗干净)”可知igus: bike不吸沙、灰尘或污垢,用花园软管几秒钟就能清洗干净,所以它的亮点是很容易维护。故选C项。
【10题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第三段中“The igus: bike will also help relieve the world’s plastic pollution problems. The company says a single adult bike gives new life to about 35 pounds of single-use plastic that would otherwise block our landfills or waterways.(igus: bike还将有助于缓解全球塑料污染问题。该公司表示,一辆单独的成人自行车给大约35磅的一次性塑料带来了新的生命,否则这些塑料会堵塞我们的垃圾填埋场或水道)”可知,本段主要讲述了igus: bike的在保护环境方面的重要意义。故选D项。
【11题详解】
推理判断题。根据第一段中“The world is drowning in plastic waste. The company is now showing the world a new product, the “igus: bike”, which is the world’s first urban bike produced almost entirely from recycled polymer.(世界正淹没在塑料垃圾中。 故选A项。
D
When the explorers first set foot upon the continent of North America, the skies and lands were alive with an astonishing variety of wildlife. Native Americans had taken care of these precious natural resources wisely. Unfortunately, it took the explorers and the settlers who followed only a few decades to decimate a large part of these resources. Millions of waterfowl (水禽) were killed at the hands of market hunters and a handful of overly ambitious sportsmen. Millions of acres of wetlands were dried to feed and house the ever-increasing populations, greatly reducing waterfowl habitat.
In 1934, with the passage of the Migratory Bird Hunting Stamp Act (Act), an increasingly concerned nation took firm action to stop the destruction of migratory (迁徙的) waterfowl and the wetlands so vital to their survival. Under this Act, all waterfowl hunters 16 years of age and over must annually purchase and carry a Federal Duck Stamp. The very first Federal Duck Stamp was designed by J.N. “Ding” Darling, a political cartoonist from Des Moines, lowa, who at that time was appointed by President Franklin Roosevelt as Director of the Bureau of Biological Survey. Hunters willingly pay the stamp price to ensure the survival of our natural resources.
About 98 cents of every duck stamp dollar goes directly into the Migratory Bird Conservation Fund to purchase wetlands and wildlife habitat for inclusion into the National Wildlife Refuge System — a fact that ensures this land will be protected and available for all generations to come. Since 1934, better than half a billion dollars has gone into that Fund to purchase more than 5 million acres of habitat. Little wonder the Federal Duck Stamp Program has been called one of the most successful conservation programs ever initiated.
12. What was a cause of the waterfowl population decline in North America?
A. Loss of wetlands. B. Popularity of water sports.
C. Pollution of rivers. D. Arrival of other wild animals.
13. What does the underlined word “decimate” mean in the first paragraph?
A. Acquire. B. Export.
C. Destroy. D. Distribute.
14. What is a direct result of the Act passed in 1934?
A. The stamp price has gone down. B. The migratory birds have flown away.
C. The hunters have stopped hunting. D. The government has collected money.
15. Which of the following is a suitable title for the text?
A. The Federal Duck Stamp Story B. The National Wildlife Refuge System
C. The Benefits of Saving Waterfowl D. The History of Migratory Bird Hunting
A 13. C 14. D 15. A
根据第一段“Millions of waterfowl were killed at the hands of market hunters and a handful of overly ambitious sportsmen. Millions of acres of wetlands were dried to feed and house the ever-increasing populations, greatly reducing waterfowl habitat.(数百万只水禽被市场猎人和一些野心勃勃的运动员杀死。数百万英亩的湿地被抽干,以养活和安置不断增加的人口,大大减少了水禽的栖息地)”可知,数百万英亩的湿地被抽干用作农地或者修建住房,导致水禽的栖息地减少,水禽数量下降。故选A。
根据第一段“Native Americans had taken care of these precious natural resources wisely. Unfortunately, it took the explorers and the settlers who followed only a few decades to decimate a large part of these resources.(美洲原住民明智地保护了这些宝贵的自然资源。不幸的是,仅仅几十年的探险家和定居者就decimate这些资源的大部分)”可知,前后句形成转折,前一句陈述美洲原住民保护这些宝贵的自然资源,所以后句表示探险家和定居者破坏了这些自然资源,推测划线单词表示“破坏”,与destroy同义。故选C。
【14题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“Since 1934, better than half a billion dollars has gone into that Fund to purchase more than 5 million acres of habitat.(自1934年以来,已有超过5亿美元投入该基金,用于购买500多万英亩的栖息地)”可知,自1934年通过法案,政府获得超过5亿美元,已经筹集了很多资金,以购买水禽栖息地。
根据第二段“Under this Act, all waterfowl hunters 16 years of age and over must annually purchase and carry a Federal Duck Stamp. (根据该法案,所有16岁及以上的水禽猎人必须每年购买并携带联邦鸭章)”以及第三段“Little wonder the Federal Duck Stamp Program has been called one of the most successful conservation programs ever initiated.(难怪联邦鸭票计划被称为有史以来最成功的保护计划之一)”可知,本文主要讲述了联邦鸭票的故事,所以“联邦鸭票的故事”可以作为文章标题。故选A。

Although my father is often exhausting after work, he attentively listens what my brothers and I say. Sometimes, he gives us his advices, too. On weekends, we like to go hiking together. Nature reserves are when we often go. Our parents are energetic so they have no difficulty keep up with my brothers and me. My father once said he’d take ourselves overseas the next year. And the spread of COVID-19 in the world has made it impossibly. I hope the epidemic will end soon.

4. listens后面加to
5. advices →advice
6. when →where
7. keep →keeping
8.ourselves →us
9. And →But/Yet
10. impossibly →impossible
根据“My family is a close one.”
故删除have后的the。

结合句意可知,“My father once said he’d take ourselves overseas the next year.”与“the spread of COVID-19 in the world has made it impossibly.” 故将And改为But或Yet。
