The Online Safety Activity
Last Saturday afternoon witnessed an activity themed online safety, aimed at helping students stay safe and have better experiences online.
It began with a speech made by a victim of cyberbullying, who attempted to increase students’ awareness of self-protection and translate this awareness into action with his own experience. Then Mr. John, a professor, made a lecture, calling on bystanders and victims to have the courage to speak up. Lastly, a question and answer session is arranged where relative experts enthusiastically solved students’ personal questions.
The activity is a great success. Not only did it help students realize the dangers hidden online, it also enabled them to enjoy more freedom online.
第二节:读后续写(满分25分)
续写参考范文
Version 1:
Para 1. I told grandma that she had taken sixteen years off her life from smoking. “What”? she exclaimed. I began explaining the math seriously, waiting for her praise in smug self-satisfaction. To my greatest surprise, she didn’t give the reaction: you’re very clever—that’s really good math. What came into sight was her unbelievable expression, which gave way to her disappointment and finally she murmured tearfully, “ How could you say this to your grandma?” Not until then was I keenly aware of the effect of my words on her. I felt terrible. I sat quietly in the backseat, motionless and speechless, at a loss what to do. My grandfather, who had been driving in silence, carefully pulled to the side of the road.
Para.2 He got out of the car and asked me to follow. Was I in trouble? Seeing his serious face, I had no alternative but to follow him, not daring to make any sound. I had no way to judge how severe the consequences would be. I nervously waited for what might happen next. After what seemed like a century, my grandpa looked into my eyes, put his hand on my shoulder and said,“My dear, do you know what made your grandma so sad? Yes, your calculation was correct, but the words were too harsh and cruel. Think about it, and your are bound to find a better way to help your grandma. Sometimes it’s much harder to be kind than clever.” With both his words and the gentle way in which he delivered them, my grandfather taught me an essential lesson. With breeze fanning my face, I guessed I found something that I would always work on from then on.
Version 2:
Para 1. I told grandma that she had taken sixteen years off of her life from smoking. “What”? she exclaimed. I began explaining the math seriously. To my greatest surprise, She burst into tears. It was not the “you’re very clever-that’s really good math” reaction that I was expecting. It was more like unintentionally stepping on a landmine to make you keenly aware of your effect on those around you. I felt terrible. I sat quietly in the backseat, unsure of what to do. My grandfather, who had been driving in silence, carefully pulled to the side of the road.
Para.2 He got out of the car and asked me to follow. Was I in trouble? My grandfather had never said a harsh word to me, but this incident was unprecedented. I had no way to judge how severe the consequences would be. We walked a few places back and stood beside the trunk of the car. I nervously waited for the rebuke (blame/lecture) I knew was coming. After a minute, my grandfather looked at me , put his hand on my shoulder, and said “ you‘ll learn one day that it’s much harder to be kind than clever.” With both his words and the gentle way in which he delivered them, my grandfather taught me an essential lesson. With breeze fanning my face, I guess I found something which I would always work on from then on.
