On the football field, it doesn't always matter what team you're on. When a fellow player is in need, everyone answers the call.
A Pennsylvania high school football team, parents, teachers and staff showed a great act of kindness for a member of the host team after a recent game. The game was really a fight to the finish, but these people came together to provide encouragement for a greater fight ahead.
The two teams are Avon Grove High School and Coatesville High School. During a Friday night game, both teams came together at midfield to give Gavin Picard balloons and a gift. Gavin.who plays for Avon Grove, was recently diagnosed(诊断)with lymphoma(淋巴癌).
Moved by the kindness of both teams and the community, Rachel Wilson, Gavin’s teammate, shared her thoughts about the support for Gavin online. “Coatesville players and coaches came up to our team after the game to show their support. There were not very many dry eyes in the stadium.”
Rachel added that in sports it's about so much more than the game. This act of kindness proved that. She said the Coatesville team had experienced quite a struggling week, so they understood how things could affect players on and off the field. “Class act all the way. Football is more than wins and losses,” she said. “It's a brotherhood, a strong connection like no other.”
Community support for Gavin continues as a family friend set up a GoFundMe page to help raise money for his treatment. There is a sea of love and support for the star football player in the comments. A latest message was shared online that Gavin completed his first round of treatment.

It's easy to believe that robots are stealing jobs from human workers and badly affect the job market; after all, you've likely heard that they are trackinng and moving packages without the use of human hands.
But there's no need to worry about a robot takeover just yet, says a new study from BYU sociology professor Eric Dahlin. Dahlin's research found that robots aren't replacing humans at the rate most people think, but people are likely to greatly exaggerate(夸大)the rate of robot takeover.
To understand the relationship between job loss and robots, Dahlin surveyed nearly 2,000 people about their views on jobs being replaced by robots. They were first asked to guess what is the percentage of employees whose employers(雇主)have replaced jobs with robots. They were then asked whether their employers have ever replaced their jobs with robots.
The study found that only 14% of workers say they've seen their job replaced by a robot. But those who have experienced job displacement due to a robot overstate the effect of robots taking jobs from humans by about three times.
“Our understanding of robots taking over jobs is greatly exaggerated, “says Dahlin. Those who haven't lost jobs overstate it by about double, and those who have lost jobs overstate it by about three times. Eye-catching headlines saying a bad future of employment have likely overblown the situation of robots taking over jobs.
The finding fits early studies, which suggest that robots aren't replacing workers. Rather, workplaces, where both employees and robots are working together, deliver more value in a way. “An everyday example is an autonomous machine at your local department store,”says Dahlin. “This robot cleans the floors while employees clean under shelves or other difficult-to-reach places.”
28.How did Eric Dahlin carry out his research?
A.By asking people questions.
C.By interviewing employers.
B.By comparing early studies.
D.By studying new businesses.
29. What is the fourth paragraph mainly about?
A.Bad effects of technology.
C.Benefits of using robots.
B.A fall in laid-off workers.
D.The finding of the study.
30.What might deepen people's worry about robot takeover according to the text?
A.Low pay.
C.Physical health.
B.News reports.
D.Fewer workplaces.
31.Which statement will Eric Dahlin probably agree with?
A. Robots can work as human partners.
B.Job markets will be affected seriously.
C.All human workers will be replaced.
D.Work experience matters too much.

Seismometer(地震仪)stations not only sense ground shaking due to earthquakes but also signals at the surface of our planet, such as storms and-as the researchers discovered-also floods. For this research, scientists turned an earthquake seismometer station near the town of Ahrweiler in Germany into a flood tracking tool. Using seismological information from the time of the event, they can tell people about the disaster in a timely way.
As the town of Ahrweiler took the full force of a flood, scientists found the seismometer exactly showed the track of the flood for one hour. By comparing mathematical models, the researchers were able to estimate(估算)thespeed with which the flood moved. In fact, this was the only systematic source of measurable information about how the flood developed
because the three present water level stations in the town were out of service early.
As the research shows, this method can provide information that is valuable to track flood for warning and rescue activities. “If the data from that station is available(可用的)and as our research now shows, real time information on the magnitude and speed of the flood will be available as well.”says Dr Michael Dietze at the University of Göttingen.“As 10% of Europe's surface area is likely to suffer from rapid flooding by rivers, we may want to start thinking about new ways of flood early warning. The present network of water level stations is not enough to be fully prepared for future events,”Dietze adds.
Dietze and his team are working on a plan to discover further areas at risk of flooding and provide them with low cost “watch tower” seismometer pairs-an effort to cut the losses caused by future floods. Dietze says, “The deadly July flood that hit the Ahrweiler in Germany in July 2021 gave a warning to the locals, the government, emergency services and scientists-how much we need to learn to improve the present flood warning systems.”
32.What can be known about Ahrweiler?
A.It saw an earthquake.
C.It's hard hit by a flood.
B.It's turned into a station.
D.It praised these scientists.
33.What do the researchers expect of the seismometer?
A.It'll speed up water supply.
C.It'll be a tool for a family.
B.It'll stop rapid flooding.
D.It'll provide early warning.
34.What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A.People will cut the cost of public services.
B.Efforts should be put into flood control.
C.The government must save its spending.
D. The locals have made a plan of action.
35.Where is this text most likely from?
A.A health report.
C.A short story.
B.A guidebook.
