Tea Drinkers Enjoy Possible Health Benefits
The world is full of tea drinkers. ___1___ But new research suggests tea might help those who drink it live longer than those who do not.
Past studies in China and Japan, where green tea is popular, have suggested several health benefits. Now, scientists say black tea may show similar benefits.
___2___ They examined years of data gathered about the tea drinking behavior of almost 500,000 adults in Britain for as many as 14 years. Black tea is the most common kind of tea in Britain.
The researchers adjusted for risks that different persons may have related to health, living conditions, diet and lifestyle choices. ___3___ That is, a 9 to 13 percent lower risk of death from any cause than non-tea drinkers.
The research was published in Annals of Internal Medicine. The scientists said the lowered risk of death held true for study subjects with heart disease. However, researchers said there was no clear finding in connection with deaths from cancer. ___4___
Experts at the U. S. National Institutes of Health say polyphenols (茶多酚) are thought to be responsible for the health benefits that have traditionally been linked to tea, especially green tea. Green tea is reported to improve mental ability and head pain, and help people with weight loss. Green tea has also been studied for possible protective effects against heart disease and cancer.
The study of British tea drinkers was based on observing people’s behaviors and health. ___5___ The study does not offer enough evidence to advise people to change their tea behaviors.
“If you drink one cup a day already, I think that is good,” an expert said. “And please enjoy your cup of tea.”
A.The researchers were not sure why.
B.For many, they simply enjoy the taste.
C.This kind of method cannot prove cause and effect.
D.China has a long history of growing and drinking tea.
E.Many studies have already proved the benefits of drinking tea.
F.The study found that high tea drinking was linked to a reasonable benefit.
G.Scientists from the United States National Cancer Institute carried out the study.

Become a Better English Student with These Study Tips
    ●Study every day.
Learning any new language is a time-consuming process, more than 300 hours by some estimates. Rather than try and cram (临时死记硬背) a few hours of review once or twice a week, most experts say short, regular study sessions are more effective. ____6____
    ●Keep things fresh.
Instead of focusing on one single task for the entire study session, try mixing things up. Study a little grammar, then do a short listening exercise, then perhaps read an article on the same topic. Don’t do too much. ____7____ The variety will keep you engaged and make studying more fun.
    ●Read, watch, and listen.
Reading English-language newspapers and books, listening to music, or watching TV can also help you improve your written and verbal comprehension skills. By doing so repeatedly, you’ll begin to unconsciously absorb things like pronunciation, speech patterns, accents, and grammar. Keep pen and paper handy and write down words you read or hear that are unfamiliar. ____8____ Use them the next time you are role- playing dialogues in class.
    ●____9____
Even advanced students of English can struggle to learn prepositions (介词), which are used to describe duration, position, direction, and relationships between objects. There are literally dozens of prepositions in the English language (some of the most common include “of” “on” and “for”) and few hard rules for when to use them. Instead, experts say, the best way to learn prepositions is to memorize them and practise using them in sentences. Study lists such as this one are a good place to begin.
    ●Write it down.
Repetition is the key as you’re learning English, and writing exercises are a great way to practise. Take 30 minutes at the end of class or study to write down what happened during your day. ____10____ By making a habit of writing, you’ll find your reading and comprehension skills improve over time.
    A.Practise your prepositions.
B.20 minutes on three different exercises is plenty.
C.There are a number of words in the English language.
D.Some words are spelled differently and have different meanings.
E.Then, do some research to learn what those new words mean.
F.It doesn’t matter whether you use a computer or pen and paper.
G.As little as 30 minutes a day can help you improve your English skills over time.

Gardening may be one of the most relaxing hobbies you’ll find, with the excitement of seeing something you have planted actually turn into a flower. But if you’ve been holding back because you don’t have a yard, then you’re missing out a lot.____11____
Container gardening is the most obvious way to plant when you don’t have a ton of space. If you can get a container regardless of its size, you can have a garden.____12____Even a small pot with a brightly colored flower or bushy green plants can give your entryway a pop of color.
____13____Grow climbing plants on a fence or the posts over your doorway to decorate the side of your home. Plenty of plants are happy to grow up instead of out, so you can have some greenery without a traditional garden.
Have an apartment or townhouse? Then consider outdoor window boxes that you access from inside.____14____And they give you plenty of options to plant bright blooms or fresh herbs within reach-plus they give your home some added appeal at the same time.
There’s probably still one room where you haven’t thought of putting some plants: Your bathroom. Even if yours doesn’t get much light, a wall-mounted garden can still grow well.____15____They will give your bathroom a more natural, earthy feel.
A.These require, no ground space at all.
B.When plants get enough sunlight, they grow better.
C.If you’re really short of space, think height instead.
D.They can add some green to the inside of your home.
E.Bigger pots give you space to grow several different flowers.
F.In fact, there are plenty of easy ways to get the joy of gardening.
G.Plants that do well in shady and wet environments are the best choice.

Do you want to raise mentally strong kids? Stop doing the following things.
    Ignoring your child’s feelings
You’re implying that your children’s feelings are wrong, when you say “Don’t worry about it. It’s not a big deal.” ___16___. And the key to living their best life is about managing emotions. A healthier message is to say “I know you feel scared right now, but I also know you’re strong enough to face your fears.”
    ___17___
It’s easy to give in when your children are losing their tempers. But each time you give them what they want, you teach your children that their unacceptable acts are an effective way to get their needs met. If you want to raise mentally strong kids, stick to your limits.
    Spoiling Your Children
___18___. But there’s a lot of research that shows just how unhealthy over-protection is for kids. If they always get everything they want, they miss out on learning valuable life skills like self-discipline. ___19___. Let them know what it’s like to experience disappointment, and teach them how to work for things they want to have.
    Expecting Perfection
While high expectations are good for kids, setting the goal too high is likely to get the opposite effect. Whether you expect too much from your child on the sports field, or your academic expectations are unreasonable, kids who feel they can’t succeed are likely to stop trying.___20___.
    A.Giving in to misbehavior
    B.Keeping to your principles
C.Teach them not to give up dreams easily
D.Kids tend to have a wide variety of emotions

We all know about the health benefits of swimming. It offers a great workout for the body —it builds endurance, muscle strength, and cardiovascular (心血管的) fitness.___21___? Well, many people are trying, based on evidence that it is good for us.
Cold-water swimming involves swimming in natural areas including ponds, rivers, and the sea. ___22___. And research has found it can have much bigger benefits than that for your body and mind. Besides being good exercise, spending time outdoors and in the water improves wellbeing.
___23___. One man who suffered constant pain after surgery claimed he was cured by taking a plunge in cold open water. And another swimmer, Sandria Simons, told the BBC, “the immersion (浸) of your body in cold, salt water, just feeling like you’re at one with nature if you like, just feels amazing.”
But what are people gaining from this chilly experience? Doctors say getting into cold water causes a stress response, but the more you do it, your reaction to stress is reduced. It’s also thought to have a strong anti-inflammatory (消炎的) effect. __24__. Some experts believe cold-water swimming helps “cross-adaptation”, where one form of stress prepares the body for another. For example, it also helps reduce the stress of exercising at high altitudes.
___25___: approach it with caution, swim with a friend, and maybe start in the summer, when the water temperatures are higher!
A.A cold swim wakes you up
B.Want to have a go at open water swimming
C.It can also be dangerous, so it’s important to do it right

F.But there are bigger benefits to this stress-reducing exercise
G.Evidence suggests that cold-water swimming has cured certain health conditions

Conservation is the main focus of most zoos today. Public perception has, to a large extent, not yet caught up with this shift in focus. Zoos put an enormous effort into educating the public about their valuable role as conservation centers.
At the same time, most people come to zoos at least in part to be entertained.___26___The recent addition of a giraffe-feeding platform at the Reid Park Zoo in Tues on, Arizona, has been wildly successful. Most of the program’s profits go to conservation projects around the world.
Zoo professionals put a great deal of effort into tools and activities that provide animals with stimulation (刺激). It has been proven that captive (圈养) animals with habitat enrichment do much better than those without it.___27___Zookeepers may spend months developing a new form of enrichment and then discover that an animal has no interest in it.
Zoo keepers often stimulate natural behaviors by using techniques such as hiding food in enclosures so that animals need to search and reach for it.___28___Some zoos make frozen taste treats for their animals, in eluding rats and fish.
Many zoos do some amount of behavioral training of animals-often as a way to enable staff to provide better care. For example, lions and tigers can be trained to touch a “target” or to put their tails through a fence. Later, they will accept an injection in the same manner. A baboon (狒狒) can be trained to present a shoulder for the same purpose.___29___
A constant concern at all zoos is where money is going to come from. It takes a huge amount of money to keep and care for zoo animals, maintain exhibits, and pay staff salaries.___30___Every zoo has a “wish list” of projects, including updating exhibits and developing new ones.
A.Zoos must always look for ways to pay for expenses.
B.Other forms of enrichment include things that stimulate the senses.
C.Zoos vary greatly in size and in the amount of money they have for expansion.
D.Such training can help zoo vets provide better, and often less intrusive care.
E.Other sensory enrichment may include stimulating the sense of smell with cooking spices.
F.Zoos must keep the public interested, so they are always working to develop new programs and exhibits.
G.The goal of enrichment is to keep animals stimulated for as long a time as possible, and efforts involve a great deal of trial and error.

How to Take to Become a Morning Person
As we all know, early to bed and early to rise is beneficial to health. ____31____ Here are some tips for you to take to become a morning person.
●Seek out as much natural light as possible. The secret to becoming a morning person is exposure to bright light. ____32____ When you wake up, pop outside for a walk around the block, or sit out back while you sip a cup of coffee. Besides, the black-out curtains you might use to foster a very dark sleeping environment isn’t recommended. If the brightness bothers you overnight, consider wearing an eye mask that you take off as you start to wake up.
    ● ____33____ There are two ways to approach your journey to early rising. You could force yourself to get up at your desired time every day, knowing that you’ll feel tired in the first few days but will naturally start falling asleep earlier within a few weeks. You can shift half an hour, wait a few days, shift another half an hour, wait a few days, and then shift another half an hour. Step by step it’s easier for you to tolerate.
●Go to bed early in the evenings. A consistent bedtime isn’t as crucial as sticking to the same rising time every day, but it’s still important to make sure you’re getting enough sleep. Most people should aim for at least seven hours a night. ____34____ Cut back on how much exposure to bright light you’re getting, because being exposed to artificial light in the late evening holds back your body’s ability to generate melatonin (褪黑素), which can interfere with both your ability to fall asleep and your sleep quality.
●Plan something to look forward to. To motivate you out of bed, you should treat yourself to something special you can enjoy the moment you get up. For example, you won’t miss your favorite coffee or pastries when your alarm goes off at 5 a.m... ____35____
    A.Ease in gradually.
    B.Be consistent with your schedule.
C.You’re not fearing it if you think of these.
D.The sun is the driver of our internal clock.
E.Enough sleep will enhance your immune function.
F.However, it really needs dramatic courage to pull yourself out of the warm bed.
G.Thus, you’ll probably need to inch your bedtime forward as you transition to a new schedule.

    You have repressed feelings.
____37____ . This meant that people who cried when experiencing something joyous had underlying feelings of sadness they hadn’t addressed. Many researchers have countered the theory over the years, but it appears to be one of the earliest attempts to understand why we cry when we are happy.
    ____38____ .
Tears contain enzymes(酶), lipids(脂质), electrolytes(电解质), and metabolites(代谢物). But emotional tears might also include other proteins and hormones. It is assumed that release of stress hormones like prolactin(催乳激素) and leu-enkephalin(内啡肽) may help regulate the body’s physical and emotional homeostasis(自我平衡). Stress hormones may help calm you and regulate your mood.
It fosters vulnerability(脆弱性) and social connection.
Crying in any setting could also be our way of showing vulnerability as human beings. When we cry, we signal to others to empathize(共情) with us. ____39____ . Scientists believe that crying is a way of establishing a social connection with other people.
You feel powerless over your emotions.

Modern humans have only existed for a relatively short time, and maybe we’d like to stick around a lot longer. But how can we do that?
    Figure out climate change.
__46__There have been times in the past when it’s been hotter than it is today, and times when it’s been cooler. But there is something different about the past century. As far as we can tell from the record, there has been no time in Earth’s entire history when the climate has warmed so much in such a short amount of time. __47__There are: more frequent and more severe extreme weather events like tornadoes and hurricanes; droughts increasing; more changeable weather, with seasons beginning to lack regularity; and sea level rises. While climate change doesn’t necessarily pose an existential threat to human existence, it surely poses a threat to how we like to live our lives in modern society.
    Figure out nuclear weapons.
A single nuclear weapon doesn’t pose a threat to all of humanity, but the thousands of them in the world right now certainly do. __48__Just consider all the “near misses” in recent history, where nuclear war was avoided thanks only to the quick thinking of individuals. We can only try our luck for so long. And one accident can lead to larger scale nuclear conflict. __49__
    Figure out asteroids(小行星).
If you want to know the terrible consequences for ignoring space borne threats, just ask the dinosaurs how well it worked out for them. Asteroids have the ability to cause massive extinction events, wiping out vast numbers of entire species. __50__ For humanity to make it to the long-term, we need to equip ourselves with asteroid detection and reduction strategies
    A.The consequences can’t be avoided.
B.Countries are joining hands to solve it.

In fact, they are workhorses of the environment as the impact of their hard work carries miles farther than the ground in which they stand.
Trees are the most cost-effective tool in the fight against climate change. Trees clean the air and clear up carbon. They foster biodiversity and support critical habitats. For example, ring-tailed lemurs are considered one of the most endangered creatures on the planet One of the reasons is that half of the forests they depend on were cut down.___53___.
Trees can save our lives too. Reports indicate in 2022 alone, heat waves across Europe caused an estimated 20,000deaths. Scientists point to trees as a way to protect these urban heat islands, saying that increasing Europe’s tree shade by 30% could prevent thousands of deaths.___54___In fact, doctors in Canada are so convinced of nature’s benefits for the mind and body, they started prescribing patients free passes to national parks.
___55___In some communities, trees are an important food source. In others, they’re a symbol of environmental recovery. When planted near streams and rivers, they clean and filter the water. When planted in the right place, trees can help you bring down energy costs for your home.

Finding the Energy to Take Action
Many of us think that the thing that is holding us back from living our dreams most is a lack of time. Thus time management is widely believed to be a crucial skill if we want to be able to achieve what we want and to make real change in our life.
Of course, this isn’t wrong as time management is indeed a very important skill and most of us do need more time to do the things we want to do. ____56____ An even bigger piece that we all too often overlook is energy management. Here we will look at why energy management is such an important aspect of your success and how to start handling it better.
____57____ Perhaps we want to spend some time learning another language. Maybe we want to cook a nice homemade meal. Or maybe we just want to work out or pay some bills. What you’re now experiencing is a lack of energy. Once you’ve had dinner, you may well find that you no longer have the enthusiasm for those bills or that workout. ____59____ So how do you get that energy back?
One simple answer is to go to bed earlier and to wake up later. To start putting sleep at the forefront of your priorities instead of at the back of them. ____60____ Instead of expending energy doing things that don’t really matter—even stressing over what to wear—understand that your mental energy is on a strict budget and that you need to conserve it to do the things you really want to do!

    Minimize illness.
    Reduce heart disease.
Have greater concentration on your activities.
People need different amounts of sleep. It’s generally suggested that the proper amount should be 8 hours. ___63___ But this would not be possible at all if there were no quality elements that provide us with a good rest, the pillow, for example.

Tan Yilan, Zhang Junwei and Cai Yu spent five months building their AR-gamified therapy app for children with autism. Children use the app to scan things around them. ____67____ Then they rearrange the parts to create songs. The songs would be recorded in their music diaries.
“This is actually a kind of music therapy. ____68____ The process also trains their abilities.” said Tan. The app encourages children to scan and identify dolls, animals and plants. They even designed different levels, guiding users from their surroundings to nature.
According to the app’s developers, traditional music therapy is usually taken in hospitals. ____69____ But Starrypia makes the process more like a game. Besides, it can be used anytime and anywhere, making the therapy lighter and easier.
Starrypia will soon come out on the APP Store. ____70____ They will return the income to their families. Start With an Aptitude (能力) Test
____72____ Other people find reading, writing and learning languages easy. Taking an aptitude test, also known as a career test or career quiz, will help you determine where your study skills will help you best.
You shouldn’t pigeon-hole yourself into a profession just because a career test says it’s right for you. ____73____ However, aptitude tests often help you identify professions you might not have considered.
    Take a Personality Test
Personality tests can help you figure out if you’re a natural leader or more of a follower. ____74____ How do you handle conflict? What about dealing with bullies or gossips? Set a study schedule. When you have many subjects to study for, it can seem hard to get through everything. Give yourself a schedule where you set specific times to study particular subjects. ____78____ Besides, change subjects every two hours.A little variety keeps you refreshed and focused.
____79____ If you find yourself distracted from studying by thoughts about everything else, spend 5 minutes thinking about them, but then tell yourself studying is your main task now. If you are tired of study, step away. A short break helps refresh you so that you can stay focused when you come back to studying.

8.上文“Keep pen and paper handy and write down words you read or hear that are unfamiliar.(随身携带纸笔,写下你读到或听到的不熟悉的单词)”提出记下遇到的不熟悉的单词,E项“Then, do some research to learn what those new words mean.(然后,做一些研究来了解这些新单词的意思)”承接上文,说明记下不熟悉的单词后应该怎么做:研究这些新单词的意思,上下文语意连贯。故选E项。
9.设空句是段首小标题,根据段中“Even advanced students of English can struggle to learn prepositions (介词), which are used to describe duration, position, direction, and relationships between objects.(介词用来描述物体之间的持续时间、位置、方向和关系,即使是英语水平高的学生也很难学会介词。)”和“Instead, experts say, the best way to learn prepositions is to memorize them and practise using them in sentences.(相反,专家说,学习介词的最好方法是记住它们,并在句子中练习使用它们)”可知,本段主要讲要练习介词,所以A项“Practise your prepositions.(练习介词)”是本段内容的概括。故选A项。
10.上文“Repetition is the key as you’re learning English, and writing exercises are a great way to practise. Take 30 minutes at the end of class or study to write down what happened during your day.(重复是学习英语的关键,而写作练习是一个很好的练习方法。在课程或学习结束时花30分钟写下你一天所发生的事情)”提出用写作来练习英语,F项“It doesn’t matter whether you use a computer or pen and paper.(不管你是用电脑还是纸笔都没关系)”介绍了两种写作方式:用电脑和用纸笔,上下文语意连贯。故选F项。

    【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章主要就如何进行园艺提出了一些方法。
11.根据上文“Gardening may be one of the most relaxing hobbies you’ll find, with the excitement of seeing something you have planted actually turn into a flower. But if you’ve been holding back because you don’t have a yard, then you’re missing out a lot.(园艺可能是你会发现的最放松的爱好之一,看到你种的东西实际上变成了一朵花,你会感到兴奋。但如果你因为没有院子而退缩,那么你就错过了很多)”结合后文主要关于园艺的建议,故F选项“事实上,有很多简单的方法可以获得园艺的乐趣”符合语境,故选F。
12.根据上文“Container gardening is the most obvious way to plant when you don’t have a ton of space. If you can get a container regardless of its size, you can have a garden.(当你没有足够的空间时,容器园艺是最明显的种植方式。如果你能得到一个容器,不管它的大小,你就可以拥有一个花园)”可知,本句主要针对上文提到的容器进行说明。故E选项“更大的花盆给你空间种植几种不同的花”符合语境,故选E。
13.根据后文“Grow climbing plants on a fence or the posts over your doorway to decorate the side of your home. Plenty of plants are happy to grow up instead of out, so you can have some greenery without a traditional garden.(在门口的栅栏或柱子上种植攀缘植物来装饰你家的一面。很多植物都很乐意向上生长而不是长出来,所以你可以在没有传统花园的情况下拥有一些绿色植物)”可知,在门口的栅栏或柱子上种植,即从高度空间来种植。故C选项“如果你真的缺少空间,那就考虑一下高度吧”符合语境,故选C。
14.根据上文“Have an apartment or townhouse? Then consider outdoor window boxes that you access from inside.(你有公寓或联排别墅吗?然后考虑从室内进入的室外窗框)”可知,上文提到考虑从室内进入的室外窗框来种植,本句主要针对这一做法进行说明:不需要地面空间。故A选项“这些根本不需要地面空间”符合语境,故选A。
15.根据上文“Even if yours doesn’t get much light, a wall-mounted garden can still grow well.(即使你的花园没有足够的光线,壁挂式花园仍然可以很好地生长)”以及后文“They will give your bathroom a more natural, earthy feel.(它们会给你的浴室带来一种更自然、更朴实的感觉)”可知,没有足够的光线,可以选择在阴凉潮湿的环境中生长良好的植物。

16.根据上文“You’re implying that your children’s feelings are wrong, when you say “Don’t worry about it. It’s not a big deal.” (当你说“别担心,这没什么大不了的。”时,你在暗示你孩子的感受是错误的)”可知,这里提到父母错误的引导了孩子的情绪表达。选项D“孩子往往有各种各样的情绪”和上文意思一致。故选D。
17.根据下文“It’s easy to give in when your children are losing their tempers. But each time you give them what they want, you teach your children that their unacceptable acts are an effective way to get their needs met. If you want to raise mentally strong kids, stick to your limits. (当你的孩子发脾气时,你很容易屈服。但每次你给他们想要的东西,你都会教育你的孩子,他们不可接受的行为是满足他们需求的有效途径。如果你想培养心智健全的孩子,就要坚持自己的极限)”可知,这里指出父母向孩子的要求屈服的不当做法。选项A“向不当行为屈服”和下文意思一致。故选A。
18.根据下文“But there’s a lot of research that shows just how unhealthy over-protection is for kids. If they always get everything they want, they miss out on learning valuable life skills like self-discipline. (但有很多研究表明,过度保护儿童是多么不健康。如果他们总是得到他们想要的一切,他们就会错过学习自律等宝贵的生活技能)”可知,这里提出过分溺爱孩子是不对的。选项F“你可能认为在孩子身上多花点钱很可爱”和下文意思一致。故选F。
19.根据下文“Let them know what it’s like to experience disappointment, and teach them how to work for things they want to have. (让他们知道经历失望是什么感觉,并教会他们如何为自己想要的东西而努力)”可知,这里指出,当孩子有需求时,不要总是满足他。选项E“因此,限制你给孩子的东西”和下文意思一致。故选E。
20.根据上文“While high expectations are good for kids, setting the goal too high is likely to get the opposite effect. Whether you expect too much from your child on the sports field, or your academic expectations are unreasonable, kids who feel they can’t succeed are likely to stop trying.

F项“But there are bigger benefits to this stress-reducing exercise (但这种减压运动还有更大的好处。)”
25.下文“approach it with great care, swim with a friend, and maybe start in the summer, when the water temperatures are higher!

符合,其中“repressed feelings”呼应本段标题,且下文“This meant that people who cried when experiencing something joyous had underlying feelings of sadness they hadn’t addressed. (这意味着那些在经历快乐的事情时哭泣的人有着他们没有表达出来的潜在的悲伤情绪。)”对选项作出了具体解释,故选E。
38.此处是本段小标题。根据下文“Tears contain enzymes(酶), lipids(脂质), electrolytes(电解质), and metabolites(代谢物). But emotional tears might also include other proteins and hormones. 42.根据上文“Give a hug. Hugging someone shows your affection and care.(给一个拥抱。拥抱某人表示你的爱和关心)”以及后文“This can make them feel relaxed and open to you.(这会让他们感到放松,对你敞开心扉)”可知,拥抱某人表示你的爱和关心,所以当你对别人这样做时,他们能感受到你的温暖。故G选项“当你对别人这样做时,他们能感受到你的温暖”承接上文,指出拥抱某人的好处,符合语境,故选G。
43.根据后文“Now, go on and say some kind words. Words like “I’m here”, “we are in this together”, “you’ll get over this”, “lean on me” and so on, can help a sad person feel better and know that you’re there to take him/her through the sad moment.(现在,继续说几句好话吧。像“我在这里”、“我们在一起”、“你会挺过来的”、“依靠我”之类的话,可以帮助悲伤的人感觉好一点,让他们知道你会陪着他/她度过悲伤的时刻)”可知,本段主要关于对别人说一些暖心的话语,故A选项“说些亲切的爱的话”符合语境,故选A。

    【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了人类要想在世界上存活更长时间,需要解决三个问题:1.气候变暖问题;2.核武器问题;3.小行星问题。
46.根据空格后的内容“There have been times in the past when it’s been hotter than it is today, and times when it’s been cooler.(过去有过比现在更热的时候,也有过比现在更冷的时候)”可知,过去有很多时期比现在热,也有很多时期比现在冷。由此可知上文应该在说,过去也有气候变化的现象存在,所以D项“The earth’s climate has changed for millions of years.(地球的气候已经改变了数百万年)”符合。故选D项。
47.根据空格后的内容“There are: more frequent and more severe extreme weather events like tornadoes and hurricanes; droughts increasing; more changeable weather, with seasons beginning to lack regularity; and sea level rises.(有:更频繁和更严重的极端天气事件,如龙卷风和飓风;干旱增加;天气更加多变,季节开始缺乏规律性;海平面上升)”可知,这句话列举了很多气候变化带来的影响,所以这句话之前应该是在说,气候变化会带来很多影响,所以F项“And we can see the effects of climate change everywhere.(气候变化的影响随处可见)”符合文意。故选F项。
48.根据空格的前一句话“A single nuclear weapon doesn’t pose a threat to all of humanity, but the thousands of them in the world right now certainly do.(一枚核武器不会对全人类构成威胁,但现在世界上成千上万的核武器肯定会对全人类构成威胁)”和空格的后一句话“Just consider all the ‘near misses’ in recent history, where nuclear war was avoided thanks only to the quick thinking of individuals.(想想近代史上所有的“险些”,核战争的避免都要归功于个人的敏捷思维)”可知文章的逻辑思路是:一个核武器不会对全人类造成威胁,但现在成千上万个核武器一定会造成威胁。 “A single nuclear”对应的是C选项的“one nuclear explosion”。而“near misses(差点爆发)”又印证了C选项的“the chances of one nuclear explosion increase(单个核爆炸的可能性在增加)”。故选C项。
所以G项“We need to disarm as much as possible to reduce the risk of disaster.(我们需要尽可能地解除武装,以减少发生灾难的风险)”符合文意,其中“disaster”指的就是“nuclear conflict”。故选G项。
50.根据空格的前一句话“Asteroids have the ability to cause massive extinction events, wiping out vast numbers of entire species.(小行星有能力造成大规模灭亡,消灭大部分物种)”。E选项中“these kinds of events”指的是这句话中的“massive extinction events”。

52.前文“Rooted to a single spot, they appear still. (扎根在一个地方,它们看起来静止不动。)”可知,树虽然看起来不动,但他们并不是懒惰,与C项“But that stillness has nothing to do with laziness. (但这种寂静与懒惰无关。)”上下文一致,且与空后“Trees are rarely lazy.(树木很少偷懒。)”呼应,故选C项。
53.上文“For example, ring-tailed lemurs are considered one of the most endangered creatures on the planet. One of the reasons is that half of the forests they depend on were cut down. (例如,环尾狐猴被认为是地球上最濒危的生物之一。原因之一是他们赖以生存的森林中有一半被砍伐了。)”可知,动物是非常依赖森林的,但由于森林减少,它们的数量正在迅速减少,与G项“Actually, trees are home to 80% of all animals, plants, and insects on land. (实际上,树木是陆地上80%的动物,植物和昆虫的家园。)”上下文一致,故选G项。
54.根据上文“Scientists point to trees as a way to protect these urban heat islands, saying that increasing Europe’s tree shade by 30% could prevent thousands of deaths. (科学家指出,树木是保护这些城市热岛的一种方式,称将欧洲的树荫增加30%可以防止数千人死亡。)”及下文“In fact, doctors in Canada are so convinced of nature’s benefits for the mind and body, they started prescribing patients free passes to national parks. (事实上,加拿大的医生非常相信大自然对身心的益处,他们开始为患者开具国家公园的免费通行证。)”可知,空处的内容应与“树有益于改善人们身心健康”有关,F项“Being around trees can also improve our physical and mental health. (与树木在一起也可以改善我们的身心健康。)”符合文意,故选F项。
55.根据下文“In some communities, trees are an important food source. In others, they’re a symbol of environmental recovery. When planted near streams and rivers, they clean and filter the water. When planted in the right place, trees can help you bring down energy costs for your home. (在一些社区,树木是重要的食物来源。在其他情况下,它们是环境恢复的象征。当种植在溪流和河流附近时,它们会清洁和过滤水。当种植在正确的地方时,树木可以帮助您降低房屋的能源成本。)”可知本段主要讲述了树木的价值,与A项“Where there’s a need, trees can fill it. (哪里有需要,树木就能够补充。)”上下文一致,故选A项。
