Since you're away in Britain是Since引导的原因状语从句。
②句Would you please recommend one for us?
③句when necessary是when引导的时间状语从句的省略句,其中省略了it is。

Dear Chris,
I know that you want to participate in the Chinese club in our school, where you need to show talents with characteristics. And I am writing to advise you to take up a cooking course full of the Chinese taste. Such a choice can arouse Chinese people's great awareness to Chinese food. As we all know, our Chinese people attach great importance to eating. If you can introduce a dish, I believe they can be attracted a lot. Moreover, learning to cook is an amazing thing for all of us.
Best wishes to you! I hope you can achieve it successfully.
Yours,
Li Hua
I am a doctor, so I love my job. I always have, but I feel particularly proud to do it at the moment.[悬念1] With COVID19 sweeping through the world, people are avoiding hospitals as possible as they can.
However, pregnant women still need to come into the hospital. Babies still need to be born.
Right now, it is even scarier for these women, as they have to come in on their own, often feeling frightened. Their families are separated from them due to safety measures. We've always provided physical support, but now we are doing so on a different level — we also have to keep them company and offer emotional support. Unfortunately, some of the women have caught coronavirus, and being at the hospital puts me at risk. Personally, I feel protected because we have full personal protective equipment, which we wear all through our 13hour shifts. You don't know if someone is carrying coronavirus or not.
I didn't want to put my family in danger by bringing the virus home and possibly passing it on to them. As a single parent to my children, Xiaohua, 12 years old, and Xiaoyong, 9, I realised I had to make a very tough decision about my family's safety when the country went into lockdown. Giving up work wasn't an option for me. I wanted to be able to look after the women who were feeling poorly and very scared, but I could not leave my little children behind either.[悬念2]
At this point, my sister suggested that the children stay with her and her husband for the time being and leave me to my hospital duties. I thought it was a great idea, so we set a date for her to pick them up. When I explained the situation to my children and told them they needed to stay with their aunt for a while, they both seemed upset, but agreed to go. On the day I saw them off, they kept looking back at me until they were too far to be seen.[悬念3]
After that, my workload increased because some of my coworkers fell ill.
A week later, it came to Xiaoyong's birthday.
Who: a doctor
Where: in the hospital
When: while COVID19 sweeping through the world
What: During the epidemic period, the author had to make a choice.
How: The author left her children to her sister.
After that, my workload increased because some of my coworkers fell ill. We had to work double shifts and my life was dedicated to nothing but work. Every day I came back home completely exhausted and fell fast asleep. As soon as I woke up, I needed to go to the hospital. I poured all my efforts into my patients, which was very rewarding. However, it troubled me that I didn't have time for my own kids. Xiaoyong was going to celebrate his birthday soon. I had to do something to make up for him.
A week later, it came to Xiaoyong's birthday. I made a video call to them from the hospital. I greeted them on the screen with mask and goggles on. Surprisingly, they recognised me at once, shouting excitedly. I took the phone to the hall, where my coworkers sang “Happy Birthday, Xiaoyong!” They also encouraged him to be strong, and a grin appeared on his face. My children's understanding and my coworkers' support gave me a warm feeling, and I believe nothing could ever truly separate me and my beloved ones. We are sure to win.
①be dedicated to是be devoted to的高级表达。
②poured all my efforts into是一个增分点。
④with mask and goggles on是with复合结构,是一个增分点。
As we get older, there are certain gifts standing out in our memories for a variety of reasons.
One gift I was given and treasured most was a doll named Patsy. She wasn't originally mine but was my younger sister's New Year gift, but on holding Patsy I immediately fell in love with her and couldn't bear to part with her. Luckily, my sister was quite happy to exchange dolls. From then on Patsy was my baby and I continued to love her dearly.
Another gift I offered my Mum has been shining in my mind. On a Saturday, I was on my way to the local cinema when I happened to glimpse (一瞥) at the window of the gift shop at the corner of our street. There were lovely gloves, pretty flowered handkerchiefs, and rose patterned teacups and saucers, all in pretty boxes. Seeing all these lovely gifts reminded me that it would soon be Mother's Day and my mother's birthday. Wouldn't it be nice, I thought, if I could give my mother something really special, something I'd bought myself? So I stepped inside the shop and admired a dressing table set, which was a green cut glass with ornamental tray (装饰托盘) and several matching pieces. I was sure my mother would love it.
The lady must have seen my disappointment when she told me the price. But she had a suggestion which immediately lifted my spirits. She pulled out a large notebook and wrote my name in it and the gift I wanted to buy, and in return I paid her a penny from my pocket money. It meant no sweets that day but I didn't care. At the age of nine, I'd made my very first layby (分期付款) ... and felt like a grownup. From then on, every Saturday I dropped in at the shop on schedule and paid a penny, which the lady dutifully recorded in her notebook.
The day before Mother's Day I paid the last two pence.
Too excited to wait till Sunday, I excitedly presented the gift to my mother.
The day before Mother's Day I paid the last two pence. As the lady wrapped the gift in brown paper and tied it with string, I attentively signed the notebook to say I had completed my layby. I thanked her and excitedly left the shop. “Be careful not to drop it,” she called after me. Securely, the gift tucked under my arm, I skipped the short distance home.
Too excited to wait till Sunday, I excitedly presented the gift to my mother. I placed the parcel on my mother's lap and I stood by her side, hopping from one foot to the other, as she painstakingly untied every single knot in the string and slowly peeled away the brown paper as if she were unfolding butterfly wings, to reveal the box. My heart was racing. Then, as I bit into my bottom lip, she carefully began to lift the lid. “Do you like it, do you like it?” I asked excitedly, “Yes, I love it so much and I'll keep it with me,” said my mother. She was delighted, smiling sweetly. The special gift survived many house moves, and it was still sitting on my mother's dressing table.
