It was arund this time that Furnel remembered Oli's schl assignment that was returned after he died, which asked Oli t write abut what he wuld d if he gt $100. “He talked abut hw he'd use that t buy fd fr thse in need,” Furnel says. “And we thught, ‘hw culd we cntinue this lve and kind­heartedness?’” The questin led t their expanding the garden and sharing its prduce.
    “It's als a way t shw ur indebtedness. What enabled, I think, us t survive thse hard days was ur cmmunity,” she says. “Peple checked in all the time. I was s struck by what the cmmunity had dne t cheer us up. We want t repay that.”
    The stand was slw at first. But gradually, peple made it a habit t visit. “They cme by, getting smething they enjy.” Sme neighbrs met fr the first time there. “This space ffers us the pprtunity t knw each ther and begin ur wn new stries, which we really need.
