The Terracotta Army Museum is one of the must-visit attractions for all travelers to China. The attraction is located in Xi’an, in west China’s Shanxi Province.
    What’s special?
The terracotta Army is the buried army of Qin Shi Huang, an ancient Chinese emperor. These ancient sculptures were built and buried over two thousand years ago near the city of Xi’an. They were discovered in 1974 by farmers digging a well looking for underground water. Over a thousand terracotta warriors and horses have been uncovered since then. Each warrior is made of clay (泥土). They are around two meters tall. The sculptures are so detailed that it is possible to guess the age, rank and personality of each one. None of the soldiers are the same.
    The best time to visit
The Terracotta Army is an indoor attraction, which is not likely to be affected by weather, so it can be visited all year round.
As the Terracotta Army Museum is one of the must-visit attractions in China, it is crowded most of the time. We advise our customers to avoid the following periods when the museum is particularly crowded:
l National Day Holiday (October 1-7), when it is fully packed.
l Labor Day Holiday (May 1-3)
Weather in winter is dry, cold and the least comfortable, and it’s also the worst season for air quality; but it’s also low season.
Travel style: private, group or independent?
A private tour means a lot of flexibility, and you will be well taken care of by a private guide and driver. The museum is crowded most of the time, but our guides know how to escape the crowds, and help our customers to enjoy more in the museum. See our 3-Day Terracotta Warriors Private Tour.
Going with a group you won’t get lost, but it lacks flexibility and personal service.
Travelling on your own, you may meet a lot of trouble, such as wasting time on finding a taxi or public bus to the attraction, lining up for tickets, reading maps, making sense of Chinese signs, etc.
    21. What can we know about the Terracotta Army?
    A. It is made of clay.
    B. The soldiers are of the same age.
    C. It is closed on rainy days.
    D. It is usually displayed outdoors.
    22. Which is the best time to avoid crowds?
    A. Summer holidays. B. National Day Holiday.
    C. Labor Day Holiday. D. Clear winter days.
    23. If you want to travel with least trouble, which should you choose?
    A. A private tour. B. A tour group.
    C. Travel on your own. D. A family tour.
    B
Arriving in Sydney on his own from India, my husband, Rashid, stayed in a hotel for a short time while looking for a house for me and our children.
During the first week of his stay, he went out one day to do some shopping. He came back in the late afternoon to discover that his suitcase was gone. He was extremely worried as the suitcase had all his important papers, including his passport.
He reported the case to the police and then sat there, lost and lonely in a strange city, thinking of the terrible troubles of getting all the paperwork organized again from a distant country while trying to settle down in a new one.
Late in the evening, the phone rang. It was a stranger. He was trying to pronounce my husband's name and was asking him a lot of questions. Then he said they had found a pile of papers in their trash can (垃圾桶) that had been left out on the footpath.
My husband rushed to their home to find a kind family holding all his papers and documents. Their young daughter had gone to the trash can and found a pile of unfamiliar papers. Her parents had carefully sorted them out, although they had found mainly foreign addresses on most of the documents. At last they had seen a half-written letter in the pile in which my husband had given his new telephone number to a friend.
That family not only restored the important documents to us that day but also restored our faith and trust in people. Even now we still remember their kindness and often send a warm wish to their family.
    24. What did Rashid plan to do after his arrival in Sydney?
    A. Look for a hotel. B. Find a house.
    C. Buy a suitcase. D. Take a vacation.
    25. Where did the girl’s parents get Rashid’s phone number?
    A. From a friend of his family. B. From a police station.
    C. From a letter in his papers. D. From a stranger in Sydney.
    26. What does the underlined word "restored" in the last paragraph mean?
    A. Showed. B. Sent out.
    C. Delivered. D. Gave back.
    27. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
    A. From India to Australia. B. Living in a New Country.
    C. Turning Trash to Treasure. D. In Search of New Friends.
    C
If you ever visit an English village, make sure to look out for morris dancing. Undoubtedly one of the strangest traditions of English culture, morris dancing is a form of folk dancing that dates back to the 15th century. If you ever get the opportunity, you really have to see it.
Men and women wearing old-fashioned, shabby clothing dance in the streets of towns and villages across the country during the holiday periods. Women wear long, frilly (有褶皱边的) skirts and men wear short trousers with bells attached to them. They dance to traditional folk music which is often played on traditional musical instruments.
Some groups carry heavy black sticks which they beat against each other while they dance. Other groups wave handkerchiefs in the air while they perform. The dances are usually performed near a pub so that when it’s over, the dancers and audience can sing some traditional folk songs over a pint of beer. The celebrations will often continue long into the night, by which point most people are too drunk to think about performing again.
Morris dancing is a great English tradition but it’s facing a big crisis (危机). As the years go by, fewer and fewer young people are joining morris dancing groups. The dancers are getting older and older and eventually, if nothing is done to change this trends, the tradition will die out within the next few decades.
If you’ve ever had the fortune to see morris dancing, you may understand why teenagers aren’t rushing to sign up. Putting it to the point, it’s not exactly the coolest thing for an 18-year-old to be doing. Why dress up in bells and funny costumes when you could be going clubbing, playing sport, or doing anything else?
However, it would be a great shame to lose such a fun and lively part of England’s history and culture. It’s important to look after some traditions and customs especially when it’s something as harmless and happy as morris dancing.
28.What is the passage mainly about?
    A. The history of morris dancing.
    B. The popularity of morris dancing.
    C. The protection of morris dancing.
    D. The introduction of morris dancing.
    29. What do we know about morris dancers?
    A. They dance in pubs late into the night.
    B. Some perform with sticks or handkerchiefs.
    C. Men wear long dresses with bells attached.
    D. They sing folk songs while they dance.
    30. What is the present situation of morris dancing?
    A. It is losing appeal among young people.
    B. It is carefully looked after.
    C. It keeps pace with people’s demand.
    D. It is witnessing great changes in history.
    31. What does the author think about morris dancing?
    A. It helps to stay healthy. B. It is not fun for seniors.
    C. It should be given more attention. D. It is fashionable among teenagers.
    D
You can’t always predict a heavy rain or remember your umbrella. But designer Mikhail Belyaev doesn’t think that forgetting to check the weather forecast before heading out should result in you getting wet. That’s why he created lampbrella, a lamp post with its own rain sensing umbrella.
The designer says he came up with the idea after watching people get wet on streets in Russia. “Once, I was driving on a central Saint Petersburg street and saw the street lamps lighting up people trying to hide from the rain. I thought it would be appropriate to have a canopy (伞蓬) built into a street lamp.” he said.
The lampbrella is a standard-looking street lamp fitted with an umbrella canopy with a built-in electric motor which can open or close the umbrella on demand. Sensors (传感器) first ensure that it starts raining and the motors open up in response to their sensors and then people can protect themselves from the rain under the canopies.
In addition to the rain sensor, there’s also a 360° motion sensor on the fiberglass street lamp which detects whether anyone’s using the lampbrella. After three minutes of not being used, the canopy is closed.
According to the designer, the lampbrella would move at a relatively low speed, so as not to cause harm to the pedestrians. Besides, it would be grounded to protect from possible lightning strike. Each lampbrella would offer enough shelter for several people. Being installed (安装) at 2 meters off the ground, it would only be a danger for the tallest of pedestrians.
While there are no plans to take lampbrella into production, Belyaev says he recently introduced his creation to one Moscow Department, and insists his creation could be installed on any street where a lot of people walk but there are no canopies to provide shelter.
32.What do we know from Belyaev's words in Paragraph2?
    A. His creation was inspired by an experience.
    B. It rains a lot in the city of Saint Petersburg.
    C. Street lamps are protected by canopies.
    D. He enjoyed taking walks in the rain.
    33. Which of the following shows how the lampbrella works?
    A. Motor→Canopy→Sensors. B. Sensors→Motor→Canopy.
    C. Motor→Sensors→Canopy. D. Canopy→Motor→Sensors.
    34. What does paragraph 5 mainly tell us about the lampbrella?
    A. Its moving speed. B. Its appearance.
    C. Its disadvantages. D. Its safety.
    35. What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
    A. The designer will open a company to promote his product.
    B. The lampbrella could be put into immediate production.
    C. The designer is confident that his creation is practical.
    D. The lampbrella would be put on show in Moscow.

How to Avoid an Internet Addiction
While it may seem like everyone surfs the web these days, there is a fine line between casually checking your social media pages and having a full-blown Internet addiction. If you fear that you may lose interest in other aspects of your life because you prefer to be on the Internet, you may be on your way to an Internet addiction. 36
Admit you are at risk of an addiction.
More and more people in the world are becoming addicted to the Internet. You are not the only one with this problem, and it is becoming more and more common and more and more well-known. 37
Set aside limited time for computer use.
Make sure not to turn it on too many times a week. If you have a laptop, make sure to put it somewhere that you can remember but not somewhere that you see every day. Try keeping the lid closed when you are not using it. 38 If you have a desktop PC, try not to go near it or put something over it like a sheet.
Call people instead of sending instant messages or texts.
If you are free on weekends, call friends and ask them to go outside. This will distract you from the computer. 39
Use an alarm clock or timer.
Before using your computer, decide on a time limit such as 30 minutes. Set the clock or timer and make sure that you get off the computer when the time is up. Alternatively create a shutdown timer on your desktop. 40
    A. Internet addiction is very common in our daily life.
    B. When the computer is not looking at you, you are less likely to use it.
    C. This can be programmed to shut down your computer after the set time.
    D. Luckily, there are ways to avoid living your life in front of the computer.
    E. This will stop you from using the Internet so often or going on to another page.
    F. If you have a problem on weekdays, phone your friends or ask for help in person.
    G. Do not be embarrassed but find others with the same problem and help each other to
    beat it.
