The entire country struggled with the never-before-seen heat of the July 2022 heatwave, but for the disabled, the heat hit even harder. The climate crisis is a threat to everyone’s health, but according to a report in 2021, people with disabilities are more vulnerable to the extreme weather events and natural disasters that result from the climate crisis.
Professor Kristie Ebi of the Centre for Health and the Global at the University of Washington, described the topic of heatwaves and disabled people as being an important issue. “Groups at higher risk during periods of high temperature include people with chronic (慢性的) medical conditions, people who take certain medications that can reduce the ability of the body to sweat, and the disabled”, notes Ebi, going on to describe the different threats that heatwaves pose to different types of disabilities. Ebi notes the difficulty people with mobility issues or blindness may have with accessing services, such as cooling shelters. Ebi also comments on the importance of making those with learning disabilities or deaf people know the dangers of high temperatures. “Some studies suggest higher rates of suicide and other mental health issues during heatwaves, requiring targeted help for those with mental disabilities,” she added.
Ailsa Speak, a disability and lifestyle blogger, experiences uncontrollable movements in the heat due to her cerebral palsy (脑瘫). “As you can imagine, when my involuntary movements increase, I get even hotter. It’s just a painful circle really.”
In the absence of a concrete set of plans for people with disabilities during the climate crisis and extreme weather events, people with disabilities continue to be at increased risk of heat-related disease.
To prevent future death and destruction, the Climate Change Committee (CCC), an independent organization tackling climate change, advocates for adaptation planning, as the temperature is set to rise further due to the climate crisis and global warming. The CCC’s 2022 report on the health risks of overheating offers adaptation options to the government to ensure that buildings are fit for future climate change. Nevertheless, the publication does not offer specific advice about people with disabilities and overheating, which thus remains to be discussed promptly and thoroughly.

A. preventive B. delicate C. experienced D. adaptable
9. Which of the following would Professor Ebi most probably agree with?

A. To share a disabled blogger’s painful life.
B. To show what a terrible disease cerebral palsy is

The clumsy and big guy in my pocket--heavy and old-fashioned flip(翻盖) phone, let me salute you.
l can't remember how long we've been together. Seven years or more? Even back then, you were out of date. The salesman in the phone store spoke warmly of your indestructibility, as if that were your prime virtue. He said I could throw you against a wall if I wanted, and you'd just bounce off. But I would never do that.
Why can't l quit you? First, the obvious thing: You are not connected to the Internet. So for me, you are a little brick of privacy. And by privacy I don't mean my identity card number or family information or whatever I mean the fragile sphere of imagination in which I exist when I'm not wandering online. I mean what's left of my non-digital self. When I close your two halves, that's it.
Second, you've become rather talismanic (护身符般的),socially. It's like hanging around with an unsocial friend: l enjoy watching people react to you. When l hold you, wave you around, I get sighs of pity and confusion, especially from the young. "Look at you, man," somebody said to me the other day when I took you out to exchange numbers. "Look at you."
We're out of the dream, you and me. When l have two spare minutes, l don't pull you out and stare at you, attracted, moving my fingertips across your surface. I stand around like a spare part, hands in my pockets. I feel the breeze on my face. I hear the hum of the city and the hum of my brain. Do I have the energy to send a text? l frown when l text. Sometimes I sweat. I smash your noisy little buttons; it sounds like I'm operating a telegraph. Three clicks to get to a C-tack-tack-tack and two more for an E. A decent sentence can take me 10 minutes. Anybody who gets a text from mek nows I mean it.
What will I do when you go? Your name is Kyocera, king of kings. You are a black monument in the desert of Time.
12. What do we know about the old phone in terms of privacy?
A. It can allow the author room for imagination.
B. It may let out the identity information of the author.
C. It features a very reliable network security system.
D. It keeps others from knowing the author's family.
13. How does the author feel when he goes out with his “unsocial friend"?
A. He feels pity for the young people.
B. He feels sad for being the special one.
C. He feels pleased to see others' response.
D. He feels confused about people's behavior.
14. When his friends receive a message from the author, they
A. should take the message very seriously
B. must regard the message as a telegraph
C. will blame the author for his being slow
D. may misunderstand the text's meaning
15. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A. The Friend Keeping Me Connected
B. A Deep Respect for My Flip Phone
C. A Digital World in the Desert of Time
D. The Importance of a Powerful Phone
【答案】12. A 13. C 14. A 15. B

Many Brits firmly believe that no task, from studying to data entry to putting up a shelf, can be accomplished without a good cup of tea.___16___ Tea is the response to various situations: waking up, breaking up, meeting a friend, feeling uncomfortable, or feeling happy. How you take your tea indicates your social class and personality.
___17___ At first, it was popular among the nobles and then the British East India Company began to in much more tea from the Far East, where it had and drunk for thousands of year. ___18___ Tea is one of the few experiences in Britain that cuts across social class race, ethnicity, and income levels. It also gives socially awkward Brits something to do with the their hands.
Tea is traditionally brewed in a pot and poured out into individual cups. Most people, however, could not afford fine bone china. The cups they did have would often crack under the heat of the boiling tea. Milk was therefore added first to the cups to lessen the heat of the hot tea and keep the cups complete. ___19___ In modern times, the “milk first" issue is a hot topic. Friendships have been lost over whether it's correct to add milk to your cup before the tea or after.
Kate Fox, the author of Watching the English, notes that milk in tea also gives off social clues to Britain’s all-important social class system. According to Fox, the strongest black tea is drunk by the working class, who have to reduce the bitter taste with plenty of milk and sugar to make “builder’s tea. ___20___
Tea communicates a lot, from social standing to emotional state, which is useful for the British, who tend to be suspicious of emotional displays. Best just to have a nice cup of tea instead.
A. Many people apparently grew to like the taste.
B. The price fell, and suddenly every Briton had a tea habit.
C. Tea has been an important part of British civilization for nearly 300 years.
D. That's almost 36 billion cups per year, divided among British men, women, and children.
E. Therefore, taking sugar in your tea is regarded by many as a lower-class indicator.
F. Some even measure the length of a task by how many cups of tea are required to finish it.
G. Scientists note that cold milk poured into hot tea heats unevenly and can give tea an awful top.
【答案】16. F 17. C 18. B 19. A 20. E

【导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍了茶的历史以及发展。
【16题详解】
根据上一句“Many Brits firmly believe that no task, from studying to data entry to putting up a shelf, can be accomplished without a good cup of tea(许多英国人坚信,没有一杯好茶,从学习到数据录入再到搭建架子,任何任务都无法完成)”可知此处说的是没有茶,许多任务是无法完成的。所以F项:Some even measure the length of a task by how many cups of tea are required to finish it.(有些人甚至用完成一项任务需要多少杯茶来衡量它的长度) 承接上文,说明茶的重要性。故选F。
【17题详解】
根据下一句“At first,it was popular among the nobles and then the British East India Company began to import much more tea from the Far East, where it had been grown and drink for thousands of years.(起初,它在贵族中很受欢迎,然后英国东印度公司开始从远东进口更多茶叶,远东茶叶在那里种植和饮用了数千年)”可知此处说的是一开始,茶英国贵族中流行。所以C项:Tea has been an important part of British civilization for nearly 300 years.(近300年来,茶一直是英国文明的重要组成部分)说明茶的发展,英国文明的重要组成部分。故选C。
【18题详解】

【19题详解】
根据上一句“Friendships have been lost over whether it’s correct to add milk to your cup before the tea or after.(在现代,“牛奶第一”问题是一个热门话题。在喝茶前或喝茶后往杯子里加牛奶是否正确,这已经失去了友谊)”可知此处说的是为了保持杯子的完整,开始在茶里加牛奶。所以A项:Many people apparently grew to like the taste.(许多人显然渐渐喜欢上了这种味道),其中“the taste”指代上文在茶里加牛奶。故选A。
【20题详解】
根据上一句“According to Fox,the strongest black tea is drunk by the working class, who have to reduce the bitter taste with plenty of milk and sugar to make “ builder’s tea.”(据福克斯称,最浓烈的红茶是工人阶级喝的,他们必须用大量牛奶和糖来减少苦味,才能制成“建筑茶”)”可知此处说的是为了减少苦味,开始在茶里加糖。所以E项:Therefore, taking sugar in your tea is regarded by many as a lower﹣class indicator.(因此,茶中含糖被许多人视为低级指标) 承接上文,对上文进行总结。故选E。
