It's natural to be skeptical of eco-friendly shoes. With other "green" products not being durable(耐用的), it has to be asked if eco-friendly shoes can hold up to heavy use in a big city.I live in a large city where I walk, bike, and take public transit frequently through all types of wet, muddy, and polluted conditions. This means I require footwear that is not only trendy (because despite my active lifestyle, I do care how I look) but also durable and practical.I've been hesitant to try out the new wave of eco-friendly sneakers — partially because I'm wary of their durability and partially because I don't love how they look — but Cariuma's white high-tops(软底高帮系带运动鞋) caught my eye.
I got a pair to test — and so did a couple other Best Reviews team members — to put these sustainable, fashionable sneakers to the test.Cariuma makes its name on the ethical processes that prioritize(优先考虑) the environment and the people involved, from raw materials to production to design. We decided to test the high-tops, though the brand also makes other sustainable shoes.
Here's what we thought about after about a month of wear.
Appearance: We all gave praise for these shoes. Many of my friends, who are more fashionable than me, gave me praise on my white high-tops.We were all worried about how the white canvas might look after the high-tops were worn in a not-so-clean city, but we've found that they held up well and didn't look too dirty.Plus, this is just part of the territory when it comes to white shoes.Since they're canvas, they can be cleaned as needed with a toothbrush and a tiny bit of detergent in warm water.
Fit and feel: I wore my Cariuma on an 11-mile walk across the city through various conditions, and I didn't develop foot discomfort one would expect after a full day of walking.
We've all found them to be comfortable, and increasingly so with each wear. They seem to be highly water-resistant.I've worn them through wet grass and in rain and my feet have stayed dry.
1.Which of the following can best describe the author?
A.Sensitive to the price. B.Particular about dress.
C.Passionate about "green" products. D.Inactive but hardworking.
2.What does the underlined part in the first paragraph probably mean?
A.Cautious about. B.Confused about.
C.Enthusiastic about. D.Interested in
3.Why can Cariuma become famous?
A.Because it attaches lots of importance to the environment.
B.Because it promotes the product as much as possible.
C.Because it lowers the cost of the shoes.
D.Because it makes fashionable shoes.

Four teenage girls from Minnesota, US.120 hours of non-stop togetherness. No cellphones. This is not a reality show, but an adventure journey.

One morning last week I looked out of my study window and saw that it was a fine day.No, it was a glorious(晴朗的) day: the sun shone down from the sky without even a single cloud.
But later that day, hard at work at my desk, I heard a loud drumming noise on the roof.Turning to the window, I saw that the sky was the colour of charcoal(木炭).Rain was beginning to fall; two minutes later the rain became hail(冰雹); at some point, the hail became snow.Rain, hail or snow, it was all wet, making rivers of water.
This story will give you some idea about weather in Britain. It's extremely variable.Go ahead with your picnic in the local park by all means, but don't assume that because the sun is shining now, it will be when you open your pack of sandwiches; better take an umbrella, just in case.
The weather in Britain is by no means always bad.The weather can just seem a lot like a person who has a lot of mood swings.
This is one of the biggest reasons why the British talk so often about the weather: it's handy.Wherever there are strangers standing or sitting close together, talk cannot be avoided, and the conversation focuses on the weather: "Yes, the weather has been good, hasn't it? Three whole days of sunshine this May!" or "What shocking weather we've been having!" The unreliability of the weather is something that every Brit can agree on.That makes it a safe topic of conversation.
Thus, the weather's unpredictability is actually a plus for the British, a very useful bit of their culture.Even those with different opinions on everything else in the world, such as the argument in the UK about membership of the European Union, can talk about the weather without it leading to a shouting match.Long live rainstorms in mid-July!
8.Why did the writer write this article?
A.To describe his own experience of the different weather in Britain.
B.To remind people to take an umbrella whenever they have to go out in Britain.
C.To prove the uncertainty of the weather in Britain.
D.To describe the weather and the way people talk about weather in Britain.
9.What is the main characteristic of British weather?
A.Changeability. B.Stability.
C.Lack of sunshine. D.Continuous rain.
10.Why do the British often start conversations by talking about the weather?
A.Because they seldom trust the weather forecast.
B.Because the variable weather is a safe topic of conversation.
C.Because they are all interested in predicting weather.
D.Because they like complaining about the terrible weather.
11.What is the author's attitude towards the weather in Britain?
A.Negative. B.Critical. C.Indifferent. D.Positive.
