    A

Grandparents are sources of extra dollars, hearty hugs. There’s a long history of literary grandparents—passing down wisdom, sharing adventures, being eaten by wolves. Here are a few of our very favorite grandparents from some of our very favorite kids’ books.

Hipple Grandmother (from My Hipple Grandmother by Reeve Lindbergh)

This grandma is a wonderful reminder that not all grandparents grew up during the Great Depression. Grandparents come from a wide variety of backgrounds and time periods, so it’s fun to celebrate a grandmother who “hasn’t cut her hair at all since 1969.”

Uncle Alp (of Heidi by Johanna Spyri)

This children’s classic, originally published in 1881, actually has a surprisingly progressive attitude towards grandparents.

Throughout Spyri’s text, grandparents act as caregivers, and the transformation of Heidi’s grandpa, Uncle Alp, from a bad-tempered hermit (隐士) to a loving parent figure is the emotional core of the book.

Grannie (of Red Riding Hood retold by James Marshall)

Red Riding’s poor Grannie might be the most famous grandparent. Red was able to see past the wolf’s trick, but her grandmother’s fate depends on what version of the tale you read. If you prefer your grandmothers undigested, you’ll love this classic tale told by James Marshall.

Nana (of Last Stop on Market Street by Matt De La Peña)

Young CJ and his Nana are waiting for the bus after church one Sunday, and CJ starts wondering why they have to take the bus, why he doesn’t have as many toys as other kids, and why they live in a “dirty” part of town. His Nana addresses each question with patience and grace, helping her grandson understand inequality with the kind of insights.

    1. What is special about Hippie Grandmother?

    A. She wore long hair. B. She was eaten by a wolf.

    C. She never washed her hair. D. She lived through the Great Depression.

    2. What impresses readers most about Uncle Alp?

    A. His kindness. B. His bad temper. C. His stubborn mind. D. Changes in him.

    3. Who describes a child that always shows curiosity about the world around?

    A. Reeve Lindbergh.   B. Johanna Spyri. C. James Marshall. D. Matt De La Peña.

    B

Do you remember the last time you got excited over a pair of shoes? Sure, you might have appreciated them, but did you jump for joy and act like they were the greatest thing you’d ever seen? You may not think that shoes are something worth going crazy over, but this woman would disagree. After all, she went wild when she put a pair on for the first time in her life.

It’s amazing how often we take advantage of things in life. When we’re used to something, we don’t always appreciate how lucky we are to have it. While we’re here complaining that our WiFi isn’t fast enough and our videos keep buffering, there are people in Africa who don’t even get to eat three meals a day. While most people work hard for the things they own, it’s important to stop and think of what others don’t have every now and again.

That’s what Laura Grier did one day. The woman was in Bwindi National Park, Uganda, when she felt obliged to stop and help someone by the side of the road. The person in question was standing around without any shoes on, and the sight convinced Grier to give up her own footwear. She had more shoes at home, while this woman had never even worn a pair before.

Laura’s generosity was definitely appreciated by the stranger who treated her benefactor to a celebratory dance. The woman couldn’t keep the smile from her face as she went wild in her brand new shoes. Grier was thrilled that her good deed had made the stranger so happy, and she cheered on the Ugandan woman as she danced in the street.

The next time you buy a pair of shoes, remember how lucky you are to have them.

    4. Why did Laura Grier give her shoes to the woman?

    A. To show her generosity.  B. To get permission to pass by.

    C. To offer her help.  D. To reward her dance for her.

    5. How did Laura Grier feel at the woman’s reaction?

    A. Nervous.  B. Excited.  C. Thankful.  D. Lucky.

    6. What does the story teach us?

    A. Never expect too much of life.  B. Try to know more about Africa.

    C. Don’t admire what others have.  D. Appreciate what we already have.

    7. What can be the best title for the text?

    A. One Woman Overjoyed by Her First Pair of Shoes

    B. One Lady Forced to Offer Her Pair of Footwear

    C. Ugandan Woman Dances to Welcome Her Guest

    D. Grier Greatly Thrilled at Beautiful African Dance

An advance in electronic publishing could make the e-book you are reading seem as dated as a silent film. Publishers hope to explore the growing success of e-books by releasing versions with added soundtracks(电影配音)and musical accompaniments.

The noises in the first multimedia books — released in Britain on Friday - include rain hitting a window in a Sherlock Holmes tale. When the plot of a book reaches the most exciting part, background scores will create tension.

Supporters argue that sound effects are the next logical development for e-books and will add excitement for younger readers. Critics, however, will argue that the noise will ruin the simple pleasure of having the imagination stimulated by reading.

Caroline Michel, chief executive of the literary agency, said the new generation of computer- literate readers was used to multiple sensory input. She said, “Young people have split computer screens where they may be watching television and replying to an email at the same time. If that's what the market wants then we should respond to the market.”

Book track's sound effects work by estimating the user's reading speed. Each lime you turn a page, the software reassesses where you have reached in the text and times the sounds to switch on accordingly. If the soundtrack becomes out of synch (同步),a click on any word will reset it.

Some authors fear that a soundtrack could destroy the peace and quiet of libraries and ruin the pleasure, of reading. David Nicholls, author of Our Day, the bestseller now released as a film, said, “This sounds like the opposite of reading. I have enough trouble reading an e-book because I'm constantly distracted by emails.

Stuart MacBride, the crime writer whose novel Shatter the Bones was an e-book bestseller, sells 18% of his books as electronic downloads. He said, “If I'm reading, I will do the noise in my head. I don’t need someone to tell me what lea cups clinking sounds like. That would irritate (激怒)me.”

    8. What do publishers expect an e-book soundtrack to do?

    A. Help to release an e-book as a film. B. Help readers improve reading speed.

    C. Add tension at a book's exciting point. D. Get readers familiar with the background.

    9. Who is in favour of added soundtracks for e-books?

    A. Mr. Darcy. B. Caroline Michel.

    C. David Nicholls. D. Stuart MacBride.

    10. What do we know about Stuart MacBride?

    A. He was a person who was easy to get angry.

    B. He knew a great deal about tea and tea culture.

    C. Eighty-two percent of his books described crime.

    D. He imagined sounds related to the story when reading.

    11. What's the main idea of the passage?

    A. Opinions about e-books with soundtracks.

    B. Response to the need of the book market.

    C. Reasons for traditional e-books becoming outdated.

    D. Suggestions on encouraging readers’ imagination.

Art therapy(治疗)involves the use of creative techniques such as drawing, painting, coloring, or sculpting to help people express themselves artistically and examine the psychological and emotional undertones. With the guidance of an art therapist, clients car "decode" the nonverbal messages in these art forms, which lead to a better understanding of their feelings and behavior so they can resolve deeper issues.

Art therapy helps people explore their emotions, relieve stress. improve symptoms of anxiety and depression, and cope with a physical illness or disability. No artistic talent is necessary for art therapy to succeed, because the therapeutic process is not about the artistic value of the work, but rather about finding associations between the creative choices made and a client's inner life. The artwork can be used as a springboard for reawakening memories and telling stories that may reveal messages and beliefs from the unconscious mind

As with any form of therapy, your first session will consist of your talking to the therapist about why you want to find help and learning what the therapist has to offer Together, you will come up with a treatment plan that involves creating some form of artwork. Once you begin creating, the therapist may, at times, simply observe your process as you work, without interrupting. When you have finished a piece of artwork—and sometimes while you are still working on it-the therapist will ask you questions of how you feel about the artistic process, what is easy or difficult about creating your artwork, and what thoughts or memories you might have had while you are working. Generally, the therapist will ask about your experience and feelings before providing any observations.

Art therapy is founded on the belief that self-expression through artistic creation has therapeutic value for those who are healing or seeking deeper understanding of themselves and their personalities. Art therapists are trained to understand the roles that various art media like color can play in the therapeutic process and how these tools can help reveal one's thoughts, feelings, and psychological disposition.

12What is the author's main purpose in writing the text?

ATo teach people to be art therapists.

BTo explain the origin of art therapy.

CTo praise the devotion of therapists.

DTo popularize knowledge of art therapy.

13Which of the following matters least in the therapeutic process?

AThe style of the work. BThe emotions of the client.

CThe memories of the client. DThe artistic value of the work.

14What does the art therapist's conclusion mainly depend on?

AThe client's questions. BThe client's explanations.

CThe therapist's feelings DThe length of the artistic process.

15What can we infer from the last paragraph?

ALittle training is needed to become an art therapist.

BChoices of art elements reflect people's inner world.

CArt therapists need to have strong belief in themselves.

DClients are required to use different tools to show themselves.

    第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)

    阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。

Food waste is a huge problem, especially in grocery stores. Americans waste about 40% of their food every year. 16  There are several factors that contributed to  this colossal amount of waste.

    Misleading labels

There is a big difference between a sell-by date and a use-by date. When a sell-by date passes, it doesn’t mean that the food is unsafe to eat. However, many people still think that they have to toss it. Grocery stores sometimes throw away food simply because it’s getting close to the sell-by date.17 The Daily Table is a non-profit grocery store in Massachusetts that collects food from other grocers that is close to its sell-by date and sells it at a deeply-discounted price. This both provides food to people at low costs and keeps it from being thrown away.

18  Denmark has a volunteer-run food waste supermarket and is planning    on opening two more. The Real Junk Food Project in the UK just opened its first food waste supermarket, where items have no set prices. Shoppers are allowed to pay what they can for the food.

    Imperfect produce

19 Yet  in grocery  stores  most produce looks identical.  Some food in   grocery stores gets thrown out because it’s imperfect, or it doesn’t “look good.” The food is still fine to eat, but often ends up in the trash. The non-profit End Food Waste has a list of retailers all over America that sell imperfect produce. They also have a petition that you can sign which asks major grocery stores to consider selling imperfect food.

There are also subscription services where you can get “ugly” produce delivered to your door. Imperfect Produce and Hungry Harvest are both organizations working to recover food that would otherwise be thrown away.20Consumer action

Not all the blame for food waste belongs to grocery stores. As consumers we can help to influence the type of food that stores sell. By buying food in less excess, food that is close to the sell-by date, and imperfect produce, we can help reduce food waste.

AThis idea has been gaining ground in Europe, as well.

BProduce rarely grows in a way every plant looks the exact same.

CThere are several companies working to recover out-of-date food.

DIn 2008, 43 billion pounds of perfectly good food were thrown out of grocery stores.

E.This is a great way to reduce the waste of short-lived foods, which food banks often can’t accept.

F.A new law passed by the Senate makes it illegal for supermarkets to throw away or destroy unsold food.

G.Just one quarter of all wasted food could feed the 795 million people around the world who suffer from hunger.

What's the saddest moment you can think about in your life right now? I know mine. That day was one of the saddest days of my life. It was a Sunday in the year of 2020. I arrived at my class that morning. As soon as I walked in, the mood immediately felt depressing and uncomfortable. I knew exactly why the mood felt this way. The classmates around me were controlling their sadness. Today was the day when our head teacher would leave and move to another school. Mr. Smith was finally leaving our school after five years teaching here.

Mr. Smith was an extremely likable guy. He was very easy to talk with and to have fun with. He was cool, relaxed, and was always friendly when you would see him. He watched us grow up. He taught us knowledge and to love others. I couldn't even imagine how things were going to be without him. These thoughts flooded my mind, and I became discouraged.

“Hey, are you alright?” My friend interrupted my thinking.

“Yeah, I'm alright. I'm just kind of sad that Mr. Smith's leaving,” I replied.

“Yeah, me too. I had so many good times with him when I was younger.”

“I wish he were our teacher forever,” as I sighed, all happy moments flooded my mind.

“Hey, can you stop talking please?” my deskmate politely asked.

My friend quickly leaned back to his spot, and I began to think again.

“Thank you everyone for my times here. I will forever keep these memories and friend-ships I've made in the past five years.” He took a deep breath and announced, “As a gift for my leaving, please look under your seats.”

Confused, I slowly checked under my seat to see a yellow block of wood that read “LOVE” on it. I quickly grabbed it and began to study it. After seconds of analyzing this strange rectangle, I realized that it was a Jenga block (积木块).

    注意:

    1. 续写的词数应为150左右;

    2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

The Jenga block was freshly painted bright yellow
