Head to Mozambique for your holiday? This southeast African country is filled with beautiful beaches and interesting architecture. Here are some destinations to add to your Mozambique timetable.
    The City of Maputo
The capital city, south of the country, is famous for its architecture, with one of the most popular buildings being the train station. Because this country was colonized (殖民) by the Portuguese, there is an almost southern European feel to the city and its structures. Tour the open-air markets and take advantage of the unique culture and plentiful accommodations Maputo has to offer! The city is currently experiencing a period of growth and renewal, as many overseas businesses are opening up locations here.
    Ponta do Ouro
With such a beautiful coastline, you can’t just visit Mozambique and stop at its beaches. Take a trip under the sea in Ponta do Ouro and get an up-close and personal take on this country’s underwater life. This town also offers dolphin watching tours, the most favored event, as well as a wonderful beach to get sunbathed.
    Mt. Namuli
Most of the area surrounding this granite (花岗石) dome is dominated by heavy forests and tea plantations. The view of Mt. Namuli is breathtaking. It’s difficult to get to the mountain, but there are trails nearby that are pretty to walk. If you are determined to climb Mt. Namuli, hire a local guide who can detail local customs and act as a go-between for you.
    Lake Malawi
Located near the northern border of Mozambique is Lake Malawi, which is shared with another two African countries, Malawi and Tanzania. As this is a destination for locals and international tourists, you can expect to find all the usual water sports and easy access to accommodations.
21.What kind of style does Maputo’s architecture probably have?
    A.British. B.European. C.Polish. D.American.
22.What activity in Ponta do Ouro attracts tourists most?
A.Walking under the sea. B.Hiking along the beach.
C.Having a look at dolphins. D.Taking photos underwater.
23.Which of the following borders with different countries?
A.The City of Maputo. B.Ponta do Ouro.
    C.Mt. Namuli. D.Lake Malawi.

Szczecin, an ancient city in northwestern Poland, has plenty to offer to visitors. Without doubt, the Pomeranian Duke’s Castle and Kasprowicza Park are two of its most popular tourist attractions, but when it comes to online reviews, both pale in comparison to a fat cat named Gacek.
Gacek, whose name means “long-eared bat” in Polish, has nearly 2,600 reviews, more than any other attraction in Szczecin. According to a local woman, Gacek first appeared on Kaszubska Street in downtown Szczecin about 10 years ago. He stuck around and people started feeding him, so from a skinny feline (猫科动物), he soon turned into a thick-fleshed boy, which only made him more adorable. The cat rose to fame in 2020, after a local news site featured it in a video that then went viral on social media, and people have been showering him with positive reviews ever since.
Also known as the “King of Kaszubska Street”, Gacek, the city’s online influencer, now lives in a roofed wooden box outside a shop on Kaszubska Street, and even though he doesn’t technically have an owner, the people who run the shop act as his caretakers. There is a sign outside his house that tells passers-by to leave whatever treats they have for the cat in a sealed (密封的) container and not to pet him when he’s sleeping. Most people who posted a review awarded the feline the maximum 5 stars, making him the top-rated tourist attraction in the city. Most of those who have interacted with Gacek claim that he is a “fantastically handsome and superb fellow”.
But Gacek does have a few one-star reviews, mostly from people who criticize his caretaker or express worry about his weight. Some even complained that he scratched (抓伤) their hands or stole a sausage. “Gacek seems to have become their envy now,” a citizen jokingly commented.
24.Why are the two tourist attractions mentioned?
    A.To illustrate the city’s history.
    B.To present an online influencer.
C.To display comments on the city.
    D.To show their rising popularity.
25.What contributed to Gacek’s sudden fame?
A.His Polish name. B.His past experiences.
    C.A featured video. D.A local woman’s care.
26.What can be inferred about Gacek from the text?
A.Szczecin citizens are considerate to it.
    B.He now lives in a well-furnished room.
C.Many people are envious of his fame.
D.Tourists are not allowed to disturb him.
27.Which word best describes the author’s attitude to Gacek?
    A.Sympathetic. B.Worried. C.Objective. D.Favorable.

You are walking down a busy street on your way to work. You pass a busker (艺人) playing a song you haven’t heard in years. Suddenly, you’re mentally reliving the first time you heard the song. The music takes you right back to where you were, who you were with and the feelings associated with that memory. This experience is known as a music-evoked autobiographical memory. It’s a common experience and it just comes to mind spontaneously. Amazing, isn’t it?
Research has recently begun to explore the connections between music and evoking memories. First, music tends to accompany many distinctive life events, such as celebrations, graduations, weddings and funerals, so it can play an important role in reconnecting us with these self-defining moments. Music also often arrests our attention, due to the way it affects our minds, bodies and emotions. When music draws our attention, this increases the likelihood that it will be encoded in memory together with details of a life event. And this then means it is able to serve as an effective reminder of this event years later.
Another recent study found that more familiar music evokes more memories and brings memories to mind more subconsciously. And the reason is that we typically reengage with songs more often over our lifetime compared to films, books or TV shows.
Indeed, the power of music to connect us with our past shows how music, memories and emotions are all linked—and it seems certain songs can act as a direct line to our younger selves.
“It seems then that music appears to have the ability to reconnect us with more emotionally positive moments from our pasts. This suggests that using music therapeutically may be particularly fruitful. That will be great news for some patients.” says Kelly Jakubowski, Assistant Professor in Music Psychology, Durham University.
28.What does “spontaneously” underlined in the text probably mean?
    A.Naturally. B.Consciously. C.Slowly. D.Temporarily.
29.What is the second paragraph mainly about?
A.What music can do with one’s well-being. B.The process of music arousing memories.
C.The links between musicals and memories. D.Why music can bring back memories.
    30.What does Kelly Jakubowski imply?
A.Music can strengthen people’s memories. B.Music is only linked to a certain occasion.
C.Music functions better than anything else. D.Music can be used for medical treatment.
    31.What is the text?
A.An online survey. B.A science report.
C.A book review. D.A diary entry.

The atmospheric level of carbon dioxide (CO2)—a gas that is great at trapping heat, contributing to climate change—is almost double what it was prior to the Industrial Revolution. This presents a challenge to researchers attempting to design artificial trees or other methods of capturing (捕获) carbon dioxide directly from the air. That challenge is one a Sandia National Laboratories-led team is trying to solve.
Led by Sandia chemical engineer Tuan Ho, the team has been working on a project using powerful computer models combined with laboratory experiments to study how a kind of clay can take in carbon dioxide and store it. “These fundamental findings have potential for direct-air capture; that is what we’re working toward,” said Ho. “Clay is really inexpensive and rich in nature, which should allow us to reduce the cost of direct-air carbon capture significantly, if this high-risk, high-reward project ultimately leads to a technology. What’s more, it can be used like sponges (海绵) to absorb carbon dioxide, and then the gas will be ‘squeezed’ out of and pumped deep underground.”
Carbon capture and storage is the process of capturing extra carbon dioxide from the Earth’s atmosphere and storing it deep underground with the aim of reducing the impacts of climate change such as more frequent severe storms, rising sea levels and increased droughts and wildfires. This carbon dioxide could be captured from fossil-fuel-burning power plants, or other industrial facilities or directly from the air, which is more technologically challenging. Carbon capture and storage is widely considered one of the least controversial technologies, to deal with climate change.
“We would like low-cost energy, without ruining the environment,” said Susan Rempe, a Sandia bioengineer on the project. “Direct-air carbon capture is important for reducing the amount of carbon dioxide in the air. We can live in a way that doesn’t produce as much carbon dioxide, but unfortunately, we can’t control what our neighbors do.”
32.What problem is presented in paragraph 1?
    A.The constant change of atmosphere.
    B.The design of artificial trees.
C.The rising amount of carbon dioxide.
    D.The storage of carbon dioxide.
33.What does “that” underlined in paragraph 2 refer to?
    A.A computer-aided model. B.High-reward investment.
    C.Some low-risk technology. D.Clay-based carbon capture.
34.What can be inferred from Susan Rempe’s words?
A.We need joint efforts to reduce carbon release.
B.Carbon dioxide holds the key to air pollution.
C.Human activities have ruined our environment.
D.Our neighboring countries should take the blame.
35.Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A.To Capture Carbon Dioxide or Not?
    B.Can Clay Capture Carbon Dioxide?
    C.What Carbon Dioxide Can Create
    D.How Carbon Dioxide Traps Heat

Motivation is the driving force to do something meaningful in life. No greatest thing is ever achieved without motivation. In this sense, our kids need to stay motivated in all walks of life that can interest them. Admittedly, parents are a child’s first and most outstanding mentors (导师), whose role is to inspire this internal drive to go beyond the comfort zone, beyond the undoable and unimaginable. 36
Speed up their ideas. According to the famous quote, “Ideas are like chessmen moving forward: they may be beaten, but they may start a winning game.” 37 Make them feel fueled about this.
Applaud curiosity. “Curiosity is the spark (火花) behind the spark of every great idea; the future belongs to the curious.” Children need to be extremely curious and inquiring. 38 The more kids get curious, the more the spark strikes in them to do something creative. The purpose of education should not be collection of facts rather should be formation of mind.
39 Praise is a bridge that carries us over everything. It’s the basic human instinct to like to be important. So, always praise kids with full recognition. Even a sincere praise can build a child’s confidence.
Consider their abilities. How good would be a lion in a tree climbing contest? Parents should identify the abilities of the child and educate it. 40 Let them feel the enthusiasm of building their own future. Every one of us is born with a spark. A spark to make a difference, a spark to create an identity. Parents should identify this very spark in their children.
    A.Be full of acknowledgement.
B.Guide the child to discover themselves.
C.Seed in the kids our deep-rooted values.

F.Therefore, always appreciate and encourage children to share their ideas.
G.Accordingly, something must be done to excite this internal driving force.

One afternoon, after Willie came back from school, he called his best friend, Caper, a well-trained shepherd dog and said, “Come, Caper! Let’s go out and have fun.” They went to the pasture field (牧场) to catch the butterflies and there they found a shaft (通风井), which seemed to be deserted for a long time. Willie sat down on the edge of the shaft, bending over to see how deep it was. Suddenly, he lost his balance and fell in. “Help! Help!” Willie called desperately. But no response at all. He was so far away from the house. He made several attempts to climb up the shaft but again he failed! Now Willie was exhausted and frustrated. When Caper saw his master falling into the shaft, the little good companion ran round and round, reaching down and trying to pull him out. Unfortunately, a piece of rock gave way under his feet, and he fell in the shaft too!
It was getting dark. When Willie’s mother, Mrs. Lee came back from work and found there was no one at home, she was anxious and worried. Without any clue at home, she decided to look for Willie outside. She went to all the trees under which Willie was in the habit of playing, but he was nowhere to be found.
M: When I think about my best travel experience ever, so many things jump out at me: Diving in the Great Barrier Reef, feeding elephants in Thailand, and even teaching kids in Cambodia, But one experience stands above the rest. And that was my trip to Myanmar with my best friend. We knew that Wi-Fi would be a struggle. For our entire trip, we had to be in the moment, with no social media, no work, and completely focus on what we were doing and where we were. This was a challenge for someone who is continually working and always connected, But I do think it forced us to present in a way that we wouldn’t have been if we were constantly checking our phones. The highlight of the trip was the hot air balloon ride over the temples at sunrise. We were lucky to get a clear day, and many other rides had been cancelled due to poor weather. 25. 根据第二段“The cat rose to fame in 2020, after a local news site featured it in a video that then went viral on social media, and people have been showering him with positive reviews ever since.(这只猫于2020年声名鹊起,此前当地一家新闻网站在一段视频中对其进行了专题报道,该视频随后在社交媒体上疯传,此后人们对它的评价一直很高。)”
根据第三段“ Gacek, the city’s online influencer, now lives in a roofed wooden box outside a shop on Kaszubska Street, and even though he doesn’t technically have an owner, the people who run the shop act as his caretakers. (Gacek是该市的网红,现在住在Kaszubska街一家商店外的一个有屋顶的木箱里,尽管严格按照事实讲他没有主人,但经营这家商店的人充当了他的看护人。他的房子外面有一块牌子,告诉路人把他们给猫的所有食物都放在一个密封的盒子里,不要在他睡觉时抚摸他。)”及第四段“mostly from people who criticize his caretaker or express worry about his weight.(主要来自那些批评他的看护人或对他的体重表示担忧的人。)” 故选A项。

根据划线词上文“This experience is known as a music-evoked autobiographical memory. It’s a common experience and it just comes to mind”可知,这种经历被称为音乐诱发的自传式记忆。 故选A。
根据第二段“Research has recently begun to explore the connections between music and evoking memories. And this then means it is able to serve as an effective reminder of this event years later.(最近有研究开始探索音乐和唤起记忆之间的联系。
根据最后一段“This suggests that using music therapeutically may be particularly fruitful. That will be great news for some patients.(这表明用音乐治疗可能特别有效。

根据第一段“The atmospheric level of carbon dioxide (CO2)—a gas that is great at trapping heat, contributing to climate change-is almost double what it was prior to the Industrial Revolution. This presents a challenge to researchers attempting to design artificial trees or other methods of capturing (捕获) carbon dioxide directly from the air.”(大气中二氧化碳(CO2)的含量几乎是工业革命前的两倍。
根据第二段“the team has been working on a project using powerful computer models combined with laboratory experiments to study how a kind of clay can take in carbon dioxide and store it. “These fundamental findings have potential for direct-air capture””(这个团队一直在进行一个项目,利用强大的计算机模型和实验室实验相结合,研究一种粘土是如何吸收并储存二氧化碳的。)
根据最后一段““Direct-air carbon capture is important for reducing the amount of carbon dioxide in the air. We can live in a way that doesn’t produce as much carbon dioxide, but unfortunately, we can’t control what our neighbors do.””(直接空气碳捕获对于减少空气中的二氧化碳量非常重要。 故选A。
第一段提到了目前关于二氧化碳含量加剧的问题,第二段第一句提到“Led by Sandia chemical engineer Tuan Ho, the team has been working on a project using powerful computer models combined with laboratory experiments to study how a kind of clay can take in carbon dioxide and store it.”(在桑迪亚化学工程师Tuan Ho的带领下,这个团队一直在进行一个项目,利用强大的计算机模型和实验室实验相结合,研究一种粘土是如何吸收并储存二氧化碳的。)

39.根据后文“Praise is a bridge that carries us over everything. It’s the basic human instinct to like to be important. So, always praise kids with full recognition. Even a sincere praise can build a child’s confidence. (赞美是一座桥,带我们越过一切。想成为重要人物是人类的基本本能。所以,一定要充分肯定地表扬孩子。即使是真诚的赞美也能建立孩子的信心)”可知,后文提到了赞美和肯定孩子,说明要认可孩子。故A选项“充满认可”符合语境,故选A。
40.根据上文“Consider their abilities. How good would be a lion in a tree climbing contest? Parents should identify the abilities of the child and educate it. (让他们感受到建设自己未来的热情。我们每个人生来都有火花。一个改变世界的火花,一个创造身份的火花。父母应该在他们的孩子身上发现这种火花)”可知,后文提到了让孩子感受到建设自己未来的热情,说明要引导孩子发现自己的潜能和能力。故B选项“引导孩子发现自己”符合语境,故选B。

    67. “Why are you here, Caper?” Mrs. Lee swelled with confusion and couldn’t help asking more. Suddenly, the dog-ear in the notebook attracted her attention. She took the notebook and quickly opened it, only to find a message from Willie, which said, “Mum, come to me! I am in a shaft in the pasture.” “Caper, can you take me to find your little master?” asked Mrs. Lee anxiously. The honest friend wagged his tail, seeming to understand her words. He turned around and ran forward fast, Mrs, Lee followed him to the far corner of the pasture and there was Willie, alive and well, in the shaft. How glad he was when his mother caught him in her arms and lifted him out!
Willie told Mum how he came up with the idea after he was success fully rescued. After he and Caper both fell into the shaft, he tried to calm himself down and think of how to get out. A good idea occurred to him when he touched the notebook in his pocket. He took it out, wrote down the message, dog-eared the page and said to Caper, “Caper, I will help you out! Remember you have to go home and give the notebook to Mum!” Then he bent down, lifted the dog up with all his strength, raised himself upon tiptoe and helped him out. Having heard this, Mrs. Lee gave the clever boy a warm hug, praising, “Well done, Willie!”
