Students will be given lessons on how to sleep in Scotland for the first time. Schools will get materials to teach students how to get enough sleep. The teaching created by the charity Sleep Scotland is used to be part of the school course. Its aim is to help people realize the importance of sleep for young people's bodies and minds.
The charity said watching TV and using computers and mobile phones at night can prevent children getting the nine hours of sleep they need. Sleep Scotland, which also offers a sleep advising service, said getting enough sleep can improve grades and physical health. However, less sleep can lead to be heavy and have a greater risk of feeling hopeless.
Jane Ansell, leader of Sleep Scotland, said, “I don't think any parent would send out their child without enough food in the morning, or beautiful clothing, and they know how important exercise is, so why should you send your child out without enough sleep?”
The charity hopes to tell young people why they need a full night's sleep and how to develop good sleeping habits. Kate Pearce, a teacher of guidance, said, “We’ve studied it for more than three years. Students often find it very difficult to get up in the morning and pay attention to their study. Sleep is surely a problem for them.”
Research shows that sleep time for children around the world has decreased over the past 10 to 20 years. A report said young people often believed they could make up for sleep time by sleeping late at weekends. However, by going to bed later at weekends they were actually forcing a change in their body clocks, and it may influence their study on Monday mornings.
60. What can we learn from the first two paragraphs in Scotland?
A. All children have nine hours of sleep. B. Children can't sleep well at night.
C. Schools used to have no lessons on sleep. D. Many people feel hopeless.
61. Which part can the passage be usually read in a newspaper?
A. Culture. B. Health. C. Sports. D. Business.

A. Few children go to school with breakfast. B. Parents think sleep is less important.
C. It's helpful to sleep more at weekends. D. Less sleep may make children heavy.

In modern society there is a lot of disagreement about competition. Some welcome it, believing that it is good for social progress. Others say that competition is bad. It sets one person against another. And it leads to unfriendly relationship between people.
I have taught many children who believe that their self-worth depended on how well they did at tennis and other skills. For them, playing well and winning are often life-and-death matters. In their single-minded dream of success, the development of many other human qualities is sadly forgotten.
However, while some seem to be lost in the desire to succeed, others take a different attitude. In a culture which values only the winners, they are strongly against competition. Among the most vocal are youngsters who are under competitive pressures from their parents or society. They are always told to be the top ones, but they think it’s really hard. When I teach these young people, I often find them in a desire to fail. They seem to search for failure by not trying to win or achieve success. By not trying, they always have an excuse: “I may have lost, but it doesn’t matter because I really didn’t try. If I had tried and lost, that would mean a lot.”
Clearly, this belief is the same as that of the true competitors who try to prove themselves. Both are based on the mistaken belief. They think one’s self-respect depends on how well one does compared with others. Both are afraid of not being valued. Only as this fear begins to dissolve ( 消 除 ) can we discover a new meaning in competition.
63. Why do some people welcome competition according to the passage?
A. It pushes society forward. B. It improves one's abilities.
C. It develops human qualities. D. It builds up friendly relationship.
64. The underlined phrase "the most vocal" in Paragraph 3 means .
A.those who try their best to win
B.those who value competition most highly
C.those who depend on others most for success
D.those who are against competition most strongly
65. Which of the following may the writer agree to?
A. Every effort should be paid back.
B. Competition should be encouraged
C. Winning should be a life-and-death matter.
D. Fear of failure should be dissolved in competition.
66. What does this passage mainly talk about?
A.Competition helps to set up self-respect.
B.Competition is bad for social development.
C.Ideas about competition are different among people.
D.Failures are necessary experiences in competition.
D
It might be strange to wear clothes made out of plastic bottles. But in fact, some clothing companies are already making such clothes.
Fashion brand JUMA recently showed its newest collection at a workshop in Shanghai. Eighteen clothing items from the collection, including jackets, shirts and dresses, were made from recycled plastic bottles.
“We realized that billions of water bottles were being thrown into landfills and oceans every year and that these bottles take hundreds of years to decompose(分解). We thought we should use them to create our clothes and help the environment,” said Alia Juma, the company’s design director.
Many other fashion companies are finding similar ways to save our planet these days. The process is rather simple. First, the plastic bottles are washed and cut into small pieces. Then they are melted and shaped into small balls. The balls are melted again to form thread(线). People can then use the thread to make different kinds of clothes.
According to Juma, it takes 67,000 bottles to create 1 ton of thread. This reduces carbon emissions by 4.2 tons and water use by 6.2 tons compared with the normal way of making thread.
“Four bottles can make one pillowcase(枕套). Five can make a shirt, 10 a dress and 20 a short coat,” Juma said. Some people might have doubts about wearing something made out of plastic bottles. But according to Causeartist, a website that focuses on innovation, clothes made from plastics could be even better than nylon and polyester(聚酯纤维). Plastic thread can be made into different textures(材质), such as cotton, silk or even wool. It seems that this innovation may lead to a greener future of fashion.
67. Why did JUMA make clothes out of plastic bottles?
A.To compete with other companies. B.To create a new fashion.
C.To help the environment. D.To meet the needs of their design director.
68. How to make clothes out of plastic bottles? Choose the right order.
①they are melted and shaped into small balls.
②people use the thread to make different kinds of clothes
③the plastic bottles are washed and cut into small pieces
④the balls are melted again to form thread.
A.③④①② B. ③①④② C. ②③①④ D. ②③④①
69. According to Causeartist, clothes made from plastic bottles____.
A.will cause doubts B.are strange to wear
C. are of better quality D.need to be greener
70.What’s the best title of this passage?
A. Clothes made from plastics. B.The process of making clothes.
C.The reason for making plastic clothes. D. Save our planet.

What’s the first thing that pops into your mind when you think of wheat straw(麦秆)? Most people would probably just see it as a pile of waste in a farmer’s field. However, Wu Cui, an intangible(非物质的)cultural inheritor(传承人), can turn the straw left over from harvested wheat into beautiful and eye-catching functional artworks.
The earliest straw-weaving(草编的)products were discovered at Hemudu Cultural Ruins, a Neolithic cultural site located in eastern China’s Zhejiang province. The Book of Rites, one of the classical works of Confucianism, also records that there were already mats made of cattail grass and professional straw-weaving craftsmen during the Zhou Dynasty (1046 BC-256 BC).
Straw weaving is a method of producing daily items or artworks. It was listed as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2008.
Wu explains the process of straw weaving: selection of materials is the first step of a complicated, time-consuming and labor-intensive process that can take weeks, or even months, to complete. You need to sketch(素描)the piece on paper, which requires drawing skills. Next comes weaving, shaping and protection of the work. Even by finishing that process, it does not mean that you will always create a good piece of work, and the hardest part is to make it lifelike.
In the past, woven straw items could be found almost in every household in the countryside, such as straw hats and straw shoes, because they were practical in everyday life. But due to the impact of industrialization, manufactured goods have replaced such products, which yield low profits, and there are only about 100 individuals engaging in the work across the country. “The world has changed, and craftsmen need to transcend practicality and pursue the beauty and artistry of straw culture to help the craft survive and thrive,” Wu says.
In her opinion, straw weaving should respond to people’s needs and preferences, while still drawing inspiration from traditional culture. “Craftspeople should make a great effort to grasp the trends and opportunities of the times to create new and related products,” she says. When asked about her plans, Wu says she wants to dig deeper into local traditional culture and create cultural creative products by developing the straw-weaving technique.
71. What does paragraph 2 mainly tell us about straw-weaving products?
A. Their major uses. B. Their cultural value.
C. Their historic origins. D. Their productive process.
72. Which is the most difficult part for straw-weaving craftsmen according to Wu Cui?
A. Making the artworks lively. B. Drawing sketches on paper.
C. Selecting suitable materials. D. Protecting finished products.
73. What does the underlined word “transcend” in paragraph 5 probably mean?
A. rely on B. turn to C. throw away D. go beyond
74. What can we learn from Wu Cui’s opinion according to the last paragraph?
A. Straw-weaving products are unpopular with customers.
B. Pursuing fashion should be the first priority for craftspeople.
C. Local people benefit a lot from the straw-weaving techniques.
D. Craftsmen should innovate the craft based on traditional culture.
