“Bike buses”—adult-led group bike rides to school—are taking over neighborhoods.
With the leading of adult volunteers, many students ride to school instead of driving. The effort is a call to protect environment, encourage exercise and reduce school drop-off traffic. And, parents and kids both say, it just makes the children happier.
Devin Olson is one of the volunteers. He is a father from Minneapolis. He made a bike bus to help students at two public schools six years ago. The number of the students in his bike bus was about 60 at first, and now it has increased to about 150.
“We meet at 8:00 a. m. to play soccer and eat some food,” Olson said. “Then we review safety measures (措施) and start our ride. We talk something interesting along the way. Children are interested in their bike bus experience because they can get lots of fun.”

A TV play named Shanhe Jinxiu was on show in November, 2022, getting good reviews. The play is about China’s poverty alleviation (扶贫). It tells a story happened in a village in Qinling Mountains in Northwest China’s Shaanxi Province. It describes the changes in Chinese country over thirty years.
