Everyone has their own way of dealing with heartbreak. Some turn to friends for support, some turn to TV streaming services and some turn to ice cream and sweets. But what if you could check yourself into a retreat for a long weekend of “therapy (心理治疗)” as well as scenic views, all with the purpose of healing your broken heart?
The Heartbreak Hotel, run by counseling psychologist Alice Haddon, is offering just that. Launched in late 2021, the residential retreats, specifically designed for women, are held at Barsham Barns, a private home located on the coast of UK county Norfolk.
The Heartbreak Hotel was dreamed up by Haddon, who had taken a break after the death of her mother, and found herself rethinking the way that therapy is conducted traditionally. Through her personal experience, Haddon realized that there were few services available for women struggling to overcome different types of heartbreak. She began exploring the possibility of a new concept in therapy that could provide what women really needed.
With her friends on board, Haddon put together the hotel with an all-female team. “This space is really a recovery and self-discovery away from the heartbreak and towards a fresh start.”
“We have a specialist working on helping our guests who need professional support,” Haddon adds. “We also encourage our guests with similar experiences to sit together and talk, which we call a group therapy session.”
Aside from that, those who check in to The Heartbreak Hotel will also benefit from a menu of plant-based, heart-healing nutritious and delicious meals, as well as fireside gatherings and walks along some of Norfolk’s beautiful beaches.
According to Haddon, every guest may hold a different story. But whatever their reason for checking in might be, the team ultimately have the same aim for every heartbroken guest who walks through their doors. “Our mission at The Heartbreak Hotel is for our guests to leave feeling strong and free to act according to their own love values and needs,” says Haddon.

A company in San Francisco, California, has found a way to turn used plastic bottles into women’s shoes.
Every day, millions of Americans drink water and other liquids from plastic bottles. More than 60 million of them are thrown away each day. Many of the plastic bottles end up inlandfills or are burned with other waste products.
A San Francisco start-up company called Rothy’s, however, turns this plastic waste into environmentally friendly shoes. Roth Martin, the company’s co-founder, explains how they turn plastic into soft material for women’s feet. They take the plastic, clean it, and break it down into small pieces. Then they press them through a device that makes soft fibers. Those fibers are then combined together. This is done by a 3D machine. It is designed to reduce waste while making the shoes. The processed stuff and the inner part of the shoes are then attached to the shoes’ outer part, called the sole (鞋底). This outer sole is also made fromeco-friendly material.
Rothy’s shoes are sold online. They are flat shoes, with different colors and designs. They cost either $125 or $145 per pair, depending on the design. After American actress Gwyneth Paltrow discovered them last year, the demand for the shoes grew. Martin says there is no shortage of material to fill that demand. “We’re not going to run out of water bottles any time soon, so we have a limitless supply of material, and I think that is a good sign for our future.” When the environmentally friendly shoes wear out, customers can return themat no cost to a company that uses the recycled material to make other products.
For now, the shoes are only available to be shipped in theUnited States. However, the company says it will add international transport in the near future.

Of the many safety measures that Disney Parks had to set up to operate during the Covid-19 pandemic, requiring guests to keep a six-foot distance from the costumed characters must have been one of the hardest.
For kids or kids at heart, running into the waiting arms of Mickey Mouse and other beloved characters had been such a fascinating and essential part of the experience, which makes hanging back terribly tough.
But finally, hugs are back on the horizon at US Disney sites.
As early as April 18, “Disney will start reintroducing traditional character greetings at Disneyland in California and Walt Disney World Resorts, as well as aboard Disney Cruise Line and at Aulani Resort in Hawaii,” according to a new post on the official Disney Parks blog. Getting autographs, shooting photos close up and sharing a laugh face-to-face with characters such as Mulan, Goofy, and Donald Duckwill all be back on the table.
“During the past two years, we’ve taken a very gradual, intentional approach to health and safety protocols,” wrote Shawn Slater, senior communications manager for Disney Live Entertainment, in the blog.“Recent trends and guidance have provided opportunities for us to bring back some of our most beloved magic, like character greetings and dining experiences. While not all locations will be available immediately, we anticipate reopening in stages throughout the spring and early summer.”
It’s not just character interactions that will be returning later this spring. At Disneyland in California, guests can look forward to the return of several nighttime spectaculars, including fireworks and Main Street Parade.
However, Disney still isn’t 100% back in some ways. Take face masks, for instance. Disney asks that visitors who are not fully vaccinated (接种疫苗) continue wearing face masks in all indoor locations. You can click here for their latest safety updates.

W: Hello! Welcome to our online parent teacher meeting. We are so excited to share information about our next field trip for first and second grade class. We will be going to the Hands On Children’s Museum in Olympia where the kids will be able to see exhibits on art and science. The date for the field trip is Tuesday, 28th February. So we will leave the school at 10 am and arrive at the museum around 10:30, and head back to the school around 12:30 pm. We will get a free bus ride, which is awesome because it will save us a lot of money. The cost per child is still not confirmed because we are waiting for the museum to apply a discount, but it should not be more than 8 dollars. The museum requires one volunteer parent for every 5 children, so we will need at least ten of them. Also as a reminder that children need to pack their own lunch. If you wish to attend the field trip and volunteer, please let us know via email, by adding your name to the list linked below as soon as possible.
