Li Shizhen (1518— 1593) was a famous medical scholar who enjoys sort of the same fame as Leonardo da Vinci in painting.
Both his father and grandfather were doctors, and he grew up helping his father in his practice. His father had wanted his son to enter the government by passing the Imperial Examinations, but failed after a few attempts. However, when he was 27, he cured a prince and was invited to be a doctor in that court. A few years later, he became an official at the Imperial Medical Institute in Beijing. During the years he spent there, he had access to rare and old medical texts. He also saw that the available medical texts were not exact and different from each other and that the medical knowledge of his time was not well defined. He wanted to produce correct information in an organized system.
He is mainly known for devoting most of his life to medical articles and for publishing a very long encyclopedia of natural medicine called the Compendium of Materia Medica (《本草纲目》). This long text is the product of decades of studying rare books and medical texts. He added his own understanding coming from his own medical practice and his family’s medical tradition. To research for his book, he travelled around and gained first-hand experience with many herbs and folk cures, and he searched for information from hundreds of books.
He wanted his book printed by the court, but they didn’t publish it. After he died, a poor quality printing was carried out by a private printer. Finally, an edition with good drawings was published just before the Manchu arrived in 1644.

It is common for most Chinese to carry their smartphones with them when they go out. But the more powerful they become, the less their batteries can last. Charging has become a problem outside home. Can shared power bank (共享充电宝) help people out?
Anker, a brand of sharable chargers, offers six to twelve portable power banks at some restaurants, hotels and shopping malls. Once mobile phones have to be charged, users only need to make a deposit (押金)of 100 yuan to use it. If their Alipay-based Sesame Credit score (芝麻信用积分) is over 600,they can also use it without a deposit. It is free for the first hour and will cost l yuan per hour after that. Most businesses in China are conducted through online payment platforms such as WeChat and Alipay. Travel routes and information are mostly checked through online maps. Families and friends are linked by online social networks. In short, Chinese need their mobile phones to function, especially during the period when they aren’t at home.

On Wednesday, a search team called Endurance22 announced that it had located the wreck (沉船) Endurance. The Endurance was found 1. 87 miles below the ocean’s surface, about four miles south of its last known location.
Over a hundred years after it sank near Antarctica, the ship has been found. The ship sank after it got trapped in the ice in the Weddell Sea in 1915.
The discovered ship is still in excellent shape. The name can be clearly read on the back of the ship. Its wheel looks ready to be turned. Even though the ship is made of wood and is over 100 years old, it has survived with little damage. Scientists say that the small organisms (微生物) that normally break down wooden objects underwater don’t live in cold water around Antarctica.
The Endurance22 is led by the Falklands Maritime Heritage Trust. The team ran the project from an ice-breaking ship which was able to handle the difficult conditions of the Weddell Sea. To locate the Endurance, the team used two underwater robots called Sabertooths.
For the last two weeks, the Sabertooths robots have been scanning the seafloor in a 150-square mile area around the Endurance’s last known location. The Sabertooths were especially useful, since they could travel under the ice and go where the ship could not.
The robots were looking for anything sticking up above the seafloor. Last Saturday, the ship was found. After the ship was located, the Sabertooths used high-quality cameras and scanners to record the Endurance in detail.
The Endurance is expected to remain untouched. Antarctica’s waters are protected by an international agreement, which means the ship can’t be disturbed. The Endurance22 team plans to create a digital 3D model of the wreck site, using a careful scan they made. This will allow scientists to study the ship in detail without disturbing it.
32. What helped to keep the Endurance in good shape?
A. Special wood. B. Sea sand. C. Fine weather. D. Cold water.
33. How did the robots locate the Endurance?
A. By searching the seafloor. B. By breaking ice for researchers.
C. By picking up signals from the ship. D. By diving undersea with scientists.
34. What plays the most important role in finding the Endurance?
A. Patience. B. Weather. C. Technology. D. Luck.
35. What is the best title for the passage?
A. Study the Endurance. B. Explore the Weddell Sea.
C. Locate the Endurance. D. Scan the seafloor.

When your dog is under the sheets, he feels surrounded. Feeling firm pressure can calm down anxious dogs. Some kinds of dogs even like to dig holes to relax. The pressure of the sheets probably makes his brain produce happy chemicals that give him a sense of safety and maybe even fun.

Dogs know that their choice of sleeping places is of great importance. 40 And the sheets give them a sense of security. Most of all, your dogs want to be under the sheets because that is where you are and the safest place is always with your family.

C. In the same way, your family love you as well.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段话,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Deep Love
As the economy was in decline, many families in our city were struggling to make ends meet. Our church had a way of assisting those who had financial difficulties without making the receivers feel ashamed or guilty. Money was dropped into an offering box with only the name of the receiver on the envelope. The envelopes were then sent to those members without them knowing the name of the giver.
There came a time when my husband and I were among those in need. We did not talk about our financial difficulty with anyone. The only reason why our children knew it was that we had to cut down on many things. Still, we hoped they were not aware of the extent of our need, nor of how much their father and I were suffering because of it. We did not want to burden them with a problem they couldn’t solve.
Our situation became worse and worse. My husband and I knew that we would have to look for outside help. Just as we reached the point of despair, our church gave us a gift envelope that had been left in the offering box. We were overjoyed to receive a large amount of money, enough to bring us through that hard time. We were extremely relieved and very grateful. We were wondering who had given us such a generous gift.
Ten months later, our seventeen-year-old son was applying for a student loan so that he could attend university. It was then that we discovered that his savings account was almost empty. His father and I were very worried about this. We had trusted him to put part of his wages from his part-time job into the bank towards his education. From the time he was nine years old, he had been a newsboy for The Star, and he had worked very hard for his small earnings.

Hello everyone. I’m a senior high school student. Today I want to blog about the power of music over words.
Sometimes words cannot describe what we are feeling, but music can. Music is like a special language that everyone can understand.
Have you ever heard a piece of music and remembered an important time in your life? I feel this way about a piece of classical music--Yesterday Once More. It reminds me of my grandmother. It is like an old friend comforting me. It helps me remember all the great times we had. Music helps me be grateful for that time together. If you struggle to find the words to help you, music can be your guide.
What is your opinion about music? Welcome to post your comments below.
读后续写:
“Where has the money gone?” I asked him anxiously. At first, he would not tell me. Hesitant and wordless, he didn’t dare to look directly into my eyes. He lowed his head, which made me even angrier. Countless doubts roared in my mind. I asked the question repeatedly. He still stood there without saying a word. “Tell me the truth!” I shouted, determined to find out where the money had gone. After a while, he moved his lips as if to say something.
Finally, with great reluctance, my son told us what he had done ten months ago.“I sent it to the offering box with your names,” he murmured. His words suddenly hit me like lightning. I was glued to the spot speechless, tears filling my eyes. It had taken my son many years to save that money. He had given it to us willingly—without telling us what he had done. I drew my son into my arms, sobbing and apologizing. Never in my life had I been aware of my son’s love, silent but pure and deep. It was at that moment that I felt I was the happiest mother in the world.
