There you are in your favorite clothing store. You don’t really need to buy anything, but everything is so cheap and stylish. Before you know it, you leave the store with bags and bags of new clothes.
On the surface, this doesn’t seem so bad. However, there are a lot of hidden costs behind the cheap price put forward by fast fashion brands. To put it simply, the fashion industry is terrible for the planet. Not only does it use up a lot of resources, but it also heavily pollutes the environment with chemicals, microplastics and unwanted waste.
Fashion is one of the least sustainable(可持续发展的) industries on the planet, commented Michael Stanley-Jones, a program management officer with the United Nations Environment Program.
“We’ve all become our own waste managers, hoarding fashion waste in our closets,” he noted. It doesn’t just take up space in our closets, though. It also ends up in wasteyard, too. In fact, three out of every five garments end up either being burned or sent to wasteyards.
But, thankfully, the fashion trend(趋势) tides are changing.
“People are increasingly examining their own consumption(消费) and what changes they can make to become sustainable,” Jane Fellner, founder and CEO of sustainable fashion retailer Loopster, old the Guardian.
In particular, with its typically lower prices and rare fashion finds, shopping secondhand has become an increasingly popular and eco-friendly choice.
According to online reseller ThredUp, the secondhand market is predicted to reach $80 billion about 518 billion yuan by 2029. And, although fast fashion will continue to grow 20 percent over the next 10 years, secondhand fashion is expected to grow an unbelievable 185 percent in that same amount of time.
Fellner continued, “Secondhand has become more socially acceptable and, for some, cool. The act of saving is now common on TikTok.”
24.What does paragraph 2 mainly talk about?
A.People’s love for fast fashion. B.Reasons why fast fashion is popular.
C.The harm caused by the fashion industry. D.The way people choose clothes.
25.What does the underlined word “hoarding” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A.Storing. B.Destroying. C.Changing. D.Recycling.
26.What does Jane Fellner think of secondhand fashion?
A.It’s not cool but acceptable. B.It is out of date at present.
C.It has defeated fast fashion. D.It is becoming a hit.
27.What is the best title of this passage?
A.We should give up fast fashion. B.Buying cheap clothes should be stopped.
C.Eco-friendly fashion is gaining popularity. D.Jane Fellner is a fashion insider.

Today was my first day at senior high and it was hard. In high school you have 4 minutes to get to your next class. My high school is very big and those 4 minutes to go from one class to another really isn't a lot of time. Today I had to go from one end of the building to the other to get from science class to math class. I wanted to go to my locker first and leave my science book there, but that took time. I was worried about being late, and I was. The math teacher said, “Just be on time tomorrow, or you'll have detention(放学后留校)”
After math, I went to art class. I like my art class a lot because I get to create things. The teacher there showed us how to make portraits(肖像). He explained, “A portrait is a way of communicating with a person. It does not just show how the person looks but what is important to understand the person.” We just did drawings today, but I know it's going to be great. I like drawing.
I like my English class, too. I think the teacher is really supportive. Today we wrote about ourselves. The teacher said to just write what you think, and we'll pay attention to punctuation(标点)later. We could write a paragraph or a poem, and I wrote a poem about myself. I thought it was a good poem, and the teacher said I had used good images(意象)to communicate my feelings.
Lunch was very hurried. I arrived at the dining room with 12 minutes to eat. I sat with people I didn't know, and everyone was eating quickly. After lunch I signed up for a computer club. I need to learn how to use a computer well because my social studies teacher says it is the one skill you need in every class.
28.What happened to the author after science class?
A.He lost his science textbook. B.He got lost on the campus
C.He was late for math class D.He was given detention
29.What did the author think of his art class?
A.Challenging. B.Enjoyable. C.Boring. D.Easy.
30.What did the English teacher do after seeing the author's work?

C.He asked the author to check punctuation. D.He encouraged the author to introduce himself.
31.Which can be the best title for the text?
A.Learn useful skills in high school B.My new teachers in high school
C.Make plans for high school life D.My first day in high school
D
If we were asked exactly what we were doing a year ago, we should probably have to say that we could not remember. But if we had kept a book and had written in it an account of what we did each day, we should be able to give an answer to the question.
It is the same in history. Many things have been forgotten because we do not have any written account of them. Sometimes men did keep a record of the most important happenings in their country, but often it was destroyed by fire or in a war. Sometimes there was never any written record at all because the people of that time and place did not know how to write. For example, we know a good deal about the people who lived in China 4,000 years ago, because they could write and leave written records for those who lived after them. But we know almost nothing about the people who lived even 200 years ago in central Africa. because they had not learned to write.
Sometimes, of course, even if the people cannot write, they may know something of the past. They have heard about it from older people, and often songs and dances and stories have been made about the most important happenings, and these have been sung and acted and told for many generations, for most people are proud to tell what their fathers did in the past. This we may call “remembered history”. Some of it has now been written down. It is not so exact or so valuable to us as written history is because words are much more easily changed when used again and again in speech than when copied in writing. But where there are no written records, such spoken stories are often very helpful.
32.Which of the following ideas is not suggested in the passage?
A.Where there are no written records, there is no history.
B.Written records of the past play the most important role in our learning of the human history.
C.A written account of our daily activities helps us to be able to answer many questions.
D.“Remembered history”, compared with written history, is less reliable.
33.We know very little about the central Africa 200 years ago because_________
A.there was nothing worth being written down at that time.
B.the people there ignored the importance of keeping a record.
C.the people there did not know how to write.
D.the written records were perhaps destroyed by a fire.
34.“Remembered history” refers to_________
A.history based on a person’s imagination.
B.stories of important happenings passed down from mouth to mouth.
C.songs and dances about the most important events.
D.both B and C.
35.The passage suggests that we could have learned much more about our past than we do now if the ancient people had_________
A.not burnt their written records in wars. B.kept a written record of every past event.
C.told exact stories of the most important happenings. D.made more songs and dances.

It’s Best To Just Be Yourself
There is nothing like being young and eager to meet a pretty girl. I was sixteen when it first happened. Her name was Mary; she was one grade ahead and the most beautiful girl in the entire school. I was smaller than the rest of the guys my age but had many friends. I would walk by her locker (储物柜), act cool and do just about anything to gain her attention.
Nothing worked.
I often pondered to myself, How would such a beautiful and amazing girl ever fall for a guy like me? I constantly thought that if I were a “cool guy,” she would eventually have to notice. Once, I “accidentally” dropped my letter jacket by her feet, just so she would note my varsity (校队) pins一and me.
She only laughed.
Then, at a weekend gathering one evening, she was there with all of her frightening friends. I decided that this had to be it; I couldn’t live with myself one second more without at least trying to talk to her. I checked my ego at the door and decided to be myself. She was alone outside for one moment, and all I can remember is that she was so incredibly beautiful it made me dizzy. I walked up to her and said, “Hi, I’m Mark. You seem really nice; can we talk? “My belly rolled with butterflies while my head rushed with anxiety.
Time stood still for a moment.
She replied, “I know who you are; you’re different when your friends aren’t around. “And then she smiled and said, “I’m walking up the street to meet a friend. Would you like to go? “I could hardly breathe: How could this beautiful girl ever talk to a guy like me? Needless to say, we walked and talked, and she was everything I thought she would ever be. We giggled about the world and how stupid our friends and we were.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150字左右;

Most people hate spiders. But few consider that spiders are intelligent, inventive and good friends to people. Spiders have highly developed nervous systems. Their brains are capable of remembering, and they are remarkable engineers. They can be found living anywhere from 22,000 feet above sea level, on Mount Qomolangma, to 2,000 feet below the earth's surface, in caves. The silk that spiders spin for their webs has a stretching strength superior to most flexible products made by people. These webs have been known to catch and hold animals as large as mice. Any insect that gets stuck in the swinging web becomes the spider's next meal. Many scientists feel that without the spider, human life would be in danger. You see, most of a spider's energies are devoted to catching and eating insects. Without spiders, insects would multiply and cover the earth, destroying the vegetation. It has been estimated that each year spiders in England destroy an amount of insects equal in weight to the human population of the country.

故选A。
根据文章最后一段“Fellner continued: “Secondhand has become more socially acceptable and, for some, cool. The act of saving is now common on TikTok.”(费尔继续说:“二手的商品已经变得更被社会接受,并且对于有些人还觉得很酷。节约现在在抖音上是规模巨大的。”)”可知,费尔认为二手时尚被社会接受,同时在抖音上有巨大的市场。由此推知,二手时尚正在成为一个热门。故选D。

This we may call “remembered history”.
根据第一段“If we were asked exactly what we were doing a year ago, we should probably have to say that we could not remember. But if we had kept a book and had written in it an account of what we did each day, we should be able to give an answer to the question.(如果有人问我们一年前到底在做什么,我们可能不得不说我们不记得了。但是,如果我们有一本书,把我们每天所做的事情记录下来,我们就能回答这个问题)”和第二段中“It is the same in history. Many things have been forgotten because we do not have any written account of them. (历史上也是如此。许多事情已经被遗忘,因为我们没有任何书面记录)”可推知,如果古人对过去的每一件事都有文字记录,我们可能会比现在更了解我们的过去。故选B。

Dear Frank,
How happy I am to know that you’re going to participate in the Chinese Idiom Contest. Here is what you are supposed to know about.
The contest will be held in the school library at 8 a.m. on December 20. Characters wrongly used should be recognized in some Chinese idioms. Besides, you are required to say out the idioms by guessing gestures of your partner. And you’d better prepare one story of the idiom in case you are probably invited to tell one.
Expect your excellence in the coming contest!
Yours,
Li Hua

Then, to my amazement, she gave me her phone number: That night, I picked up my courage to call her and we talked happily for hours over the phone. And before hanging up, Mary revealed that it was stupid of me to do something deliberately to draw her attention. I would never forget her words that she didn’t care about how much a guy could show himself off, but only cherished whoever knew what he really wanted to be. Surprisingly, Mary and I quickly got familiar, resulting in our close friendship.
We two close friends later went on to separate world-class colleges and feelings between us faded. Six years later we met again, quite accidentally, as representatives taking part in a conference. She was the same beautiful girl, but more confident and independent, stunning in a black suit. We had a pleasant chat just like before, during which she spoke highly of me, feeling me more mature and determined. I told her one important thing that I learned from her, that is, if you try to act like somebody you’re not, any love or approval you gain won’t mean anything. It’s best to just be yourself.
