How do you feel about bees? Do you get irritated when they buzz (嗡嗡地叫) around you and do you fear their mission is just to sting you? Love them or loathe them, these little insects are extremely important creatures, and without them we might starve.
Bees deserve some respect— they give us honey, and they play their part either in pollinating (给……授粉) the many vegetables and fruits we eat directly or pollinating the food for the animals that we then consume. In fact, they are the world’s most important pollinators. That’s not all— a study by the University of Reading in the UK, found bees and other pollinating insects have a global economic value of around & 120bn and contribute around & 690m to the UK economy every year.
So, bees are worth protecting, and although a small number of bee species are vital for crops such as oilseed rape (欧洲油菜) , apples and strawberries, experts say we should be taking care of all our bees. Researchers say conservation efforts should be aimed at a wide number of species— even those that currently contribute little to crop pollination— in order to maintain biodiversity and ensure future food security.
Unfortunately, in recent times, bee populations have been declining due to pesticides (杀虫剂), disease and habitat loss. It’s something we should be worried about because, as Gill Perkins, chief executive of the Bumblebee (大黄蜂) Conservation Trust, told BBC Future website: “They provide a whole ecosystem service.” The recent lockdowns caused by the coronavirus pandemic seem to have given bee populations a little boost because they faced less human disturbance, traffic and polluting fumes.
Conservationists hope, going forward, people will appreciate bees more and encourage them to thrive as they reconnect with nature. Gill Perkins says, “They are beginning to realize how their mental health and well-being are supported by nature— particularly by bumblebees, which are so iconic, beautiful and buzzy.” So, it really seems time to give bees a second chance.
24.What do bees do to the fruits and vegetables we eat?
A.They store them. B.They pollinate them.
C.They destroy them. D.They consume them.
25.What reason might contribute to the fall-off in bee populations?
    A.Habitat loss. B.Natural enemies.
    C.Heavy weather. D.Crop pollination.
26.What does the underlined word “thrive” in Paragraph 5 mean?
    A.Grow. B.Plant. C.Decrease. D.Shrink.
27.In which section of a website can we probably find the text?
    A.Tourism. B.Sports. C.Business. D.Science.

You're stuck in a sea of standstill traffic when it begins: hunger pangs, the kind that release a steady stream of fast food fantasizing. With your grumbling stomach growing louder, your options are limited: You can wait a few hours for the roadways to clear or pull a Michael Douglas in the movie Falling Down, leaving your car idling on the freeway while you set off on foot (please don't do this).
Now Burger King, is betting that hungry drivers will welcome a third option: a direct-to-driver; delivery concept the company has labeled the "Traffic, Jam Whoopper."
Reached by email, Gustavo Lauria, co-founder of the advertising agency We Believers, which developed the vehicle delivery concept, said the new approach allows the burger chain to capitalize on a time of day in which the city's terrible traffic typically slows business. "This was an opportunity for Burger King to generate new profits out of those hungry drivers," Lauria added.
Lauria claims Burger King is the first fast food brand to deliver food to people in the middle of a traffic jam. In Mexico City, the company said, delivery drivers are already receiving an average of 7,000 orders per day, mostly to homes and offices. To make the traffic jam delivery process possible. Burger King's Mexico app activities the service after identifying crowded areas in Mexico City during periods of high traffic. Customers can only place an order if the app determines that the driver will be locked in traffic for at least 30 minutes and they are within a 1.8-mile distance of a Burger King restaurant, the company said.
Early on, Lauria wrote, the initiative was met with skepticism. The challenges were complex: making sure real-time geolocation data was accurate enough, and the creation of a hands-free way to take orders on cellphones in a country that has adopted serious punishment for drivers who use cellphones behind the wheel.
Though the company did not offer a timeline, Burger King says it expects to roll out the Traffic Jam Whopper in other overcrowded cities, such as Los Angeles, Sao Paulo and Shanghai.
28.What does the "Traffic Jam Whopper"(paragraph 2) refer to?
A.A proposal intended to ease the traffic jam during peak hours.
B.An initiative which allows drivers to have food delivered directly to their cars.
C.A platform which makes it convenient for drivers to order food via cellphones.
D.An association supervising whether drivers are observing traffic rules.
29.Burger King is launching the Traffic Jam Whopper mainly to ________.
    A.promote its corporate culture
B.make a shift in its sales pattern
C.achieve an increase in its profit
D.expand its business into more cities
30.What can be inferred from the passage?
A.The Traffic Jam Whopper poses a threat to the safety of pedestrians.
B.Drivers will be allowed to type on their cellphones during traffic jams.
C.Technological barriers may block the traffic jam delivery process
D.Drivers can instantly choose to activate Burger King's app.
31.Burger King is ________about the Traffic Jam Whopper.
    A.cautious B.ambitious
    C.doubtful D.concerned
    D
Fikiri Kiponda’s path from accountant to marine (海洋的) conservationist was sparked by a chance encounter. After securing his dream job, Kiponda decided he wanted more. He wasn’t quite sure what he was looking for until he ran across some turtle hatchlings.
He didn’t know it was turtle. Fortunately enough he got the right person to ask and he got motivated. That person was Nkindi, a staff member at the Watamu Conservation project who later invited him to volunteer on the project. He later left his accounting job and fully devoted himself into the world of sea turtles. Now, he runs and spends his time nursing critically endangered sea turtles back to health.
Sea turtles have been around for nearly 110 million years and are now considered highly endangered. Their preservation rests on activities of conservationists such as Kiponda as these turtles face numerous threats and signs of their extinction in the next 50 years.
Local fishermen traditionally catch them to supplement their own low catch rates and sell them for their oil. As changes are made to accommodate more hotels for tourists, there is less available beach land for turtle nesting.
Kiponda’s passion has now spread to his community, changing their attitude towards sea life preservation with his “by-catch release programme.”
Through this program, fishermen are now paid for returning turtles accidentally caught in their fishing nets. The healthy ones are tagged and released into the marine park while he takes care of sick and injured turtles back to health.
Before the launch of pioneering spirit like this, turtles caught by fishermen were used for their meat and their oil extracted (提炼) for its medicinal properties.
“Releasing the turtle back into the ocean is a very good feeling, like, you feel like you’ve done something concrete and I guess everybody would love to do that...so I guess it’s unique work.”
32.What was Fikiri Kiponda’s dream job according to the text?
    A.An accountant.
    B.A marine conservationist.
C.A guide to the Watamu Conservation Project.
    D.An advocate for turtles.
33.What may be the main threat to the turtles?
A.The rising sea level. B.Being caught by tourists.
C.Overdevelopment in the tourism. D.The reduction in their nesting place.
34.Which of the following words can best describe Fikiri Kiponda?
A.Energetic but conservative. B.Enthusiastic and caring.
C.Arbitrary but considerate. D.Ambitious and knowledgeable.
35.Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A.The man saving endangered sea turtles.
B.An unique job of protecting sea turtles.
C.A pioneer project protecting sea animals.
D.The current situation faced by sea turtles.

Andrea Penaherrera and Marielisa Romo had no idea that their lives were about to change forever when they walked into a restaurant in the Southern Ecuadorian town of Milagros on a significant day in March 2007. Yet, that important day marked the start of the opening of countless mysteries behind their existence. They discovered for the first time that they were twin sisters.
The two first met accidentally when they were fifteen, which seemed like a movie plot. Andrea remembered going into a Milagros restaurant with her single mother, Petita, to eat out. Shortly after settling into their seats, their eyes went across the room, where an impressive teenage girl was seated. The two were shocked to realize the stranger looked exactly like Andrea, with shared features like hair, eyes, and height. How could there be such two very similar people in the world.
The stranger’s name was Marielisa, and she was accompanied by her parents, Roberto and Isabel. Naturally, the two girls got talking, deciding to get to the bottom of their similar appearances, which seemed too much of a coincidence (巧合). They later realized they had lived together and worn the same clothes for some time. However, they lived in different fam-ilies without any overlap (重叠). They had never seen each other before, let alone know that there was another person who looked like themselves around them.
The story of the twin sisters who met accidentally soon became widespread, getting media attention. Before long, several media companies joined the girls in their seeking to discover the whole truth.
While the coincidental meeting of the two was already mysterious, further discovery proved the story behind their separation more of a mystery. Different available versions of the separation story have made the rounds over time, so much that what happened twelve years ago remained unclear to date. More and more mysteries were waiting to be solved.
    注意:
    1.续写词数应为150左右;
    2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Finally, half a month later, the girls’ mother, Petita told a sad story.

When you have a pet dog, it is necessary to care for it very carefully. The most important part of dog-care is cleanliness, such things like bathing, care of the teeth and nails, keeping them from insects as much as possible. Not only does the dog have to be kept clean, but his environment should also be clean. The bed he sleeps in can be made with a carpet as long as it is kept clean.
Proper feeding is also important to your dog’s health. A dog should be fed in the same place and on a regular schedule. Food should never be left before a dog for more than thirty minutes on any conditions. Remember to keep flesh water available to the dog during hot weather. Another important thing that many dog owners forget is exercise for their dogs. Active exercise helps build strength and keeps the dog healthy. A regular walk at a fixed time of the day is enough to help a small dog live a healthier and happier life. Large dogs, though, require a run in an open field.

    My Unforgettable Experience
During last su mmer holidays, in order to do something meaningful instead of staying at home, I got a job at a fast food restaurant as a cleaner. I worked eight hours a day for four weeks.
Every day I started off for work early in the morning and got home late in the evening. The job was hard and boring and seemed endless, which made me so tired that I nearly gave it up halfway. However, I finished it with determination. Although I met with a lot of difficulty in the work, it helped me understand better what labor means. I think it’s really an unforg ettable experience.

Finally, half a month later, the girls’ mother, Petita told a sad story. One sunny spring morning, she took the twins to a faraway park. The two girls were excited to visit different sections separately. About an hour later Petita found Marielisa lost. The upset mother crazily searched but without luck. She was then poor and had to stop hunting a month later. Marielisa knew the story and soon forgave her mother. In fact, she wanted to contact her twin sister and mother.
The girls were glad that fortune eventually led them to each other. They were pleased to treat each other as sisters and friends. After school, they had long chats on the telephone. Ten days later, they agreed to go to the same park they visited twelve years ago. This time they demanded Petita, Roberto and Isabel to go with them. The two girls bridged the gap between the two families. Soon they decided to meet every two months.
