A friend sent me an email, asking if I'd consider writing about educational apps for children to watch while on road trips. The email said, "Many are turning to road trips. And often with long car rides comes the use of on-screen entertainment. These educational apps should also develop their art, math and design skills."
While I realize the intention is well-meaning, and doubtless would lead to a quieter car ride for the parents, the thought of sticking kids in front of screens on a road trip makes me queasy. You see, if they're glued to a screen for hours on end, they will miss everything that's going by outside the window. And that means they'll miss out an a major part of the trip and the opportunity to engage in conversation with family members, but to be alone with their own thoughts, or simply to be bored.
There is so much to see on a road trip! Cars, trees, faces, building, markets, airplanes landing-the entire world is out there, and staring at it from the backseat of a car familiarizes a child with what is going on.
I have a theory that paying attention to one's surroundings while traveling by car helps children develop an internal compass. If they don't pay attention during all those years when they're being driven, they'll struggle to know where to go and how to locate themselves once they're independent. This doesn't mean they have to be alert (警惕的) for the entire journey, but not being on a screen naturally allows for a higher level of engagement with one's surroundings. When you listen to music, you'll look up occasionally; you'll pay attention to landmarks.
What can children do on the trip? Actually, there are plenty of off-screen activities.
24.What was the author's friend's intention to develop apps?
A.To make some extra money.

A.Uncomfortable. B.Tired.

27.What can be the best title for the text?
A.Take the Chance of Traveling to Relax Yourself.
B.Say Goodbye to Educational Apps on Your Holiday
C.Learn to Look up from Your Screens from Time to Time
D.Leave the Screens Alone on Your Next Family Road Trip

The future home is something that people have talked about for decades. Because the future home idea inspires our imagination, scientists and engineers have been working hard to develop different systems to make houses “smarter”.
The video camera at the entrance recognize visitors using facial recognition. The facial recognition software of the future home will not only recognize friends, but strangers as well. And the software in the future home will run the strangers faces against a database of criminals.
The future home will also have smart application appliances(家电) as well. There will be a vast networking system connecting them. Ovens, microwaves and refrigerators will be controlled automatically, so remote cooking will be a possibility and meals are prepared for your arrival.
There will also be a green systems in place such as saving and reusing washing water and bathwater. Plants and people may receive pure or mineralized(含矿的) drinking water.
If you think this future home idea is pie in the sky or science fiction, then think again. Most of the systems described here are either in development or already out in the market. Future homes may not be standard yet for the middle class but this is not as far ahead as many people would think.
28. What can the facial recognition software be used for in the future houses?
A.Greeting friends B.Collecting criminals information
C.Recognized visitors D.Following dangerous criminals.

Children love getting dirty, with no regard for footwear or the color of their clothing. “Don’t get dirty!” was once a constant family refrain, as parents despairingly (绝望地) watched their children spoil (糟蹋) their best clothes. Whether they were running through farmers’ fields or climbing trees, it was obvious that children’s whites would turn brown before the day was over.
Today, many parents may secretly wish their children had the chance to pick up a bit of dirt. With the rise of urbanism (城市化), and the attraction of video games and social media, contact with nature is much rarer than in the past. For many, there is simply no opportunity to get muddy.
Many of the psychological benefits of outdoor play are already well established. Our brains evolved in natural landscapes. This means that natural scenes provide the perfect level of stimulation (刺激), which is thought to help recharge the brain when it is tired and easily distractible (注意力分散的). Supporting this theory, one study from 2009 found that children with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) (注意力缺陷多动症) were better able to concentrate following a 20-minute walk in the park, compared to a 20-minute walk on the streets of a well-kept urban area. Being close to grass and trees seemed to have had a beneficial effect on their minds. The authors recommended using such “doses of nature” as a safe and accessible way of supporting children with ADHD, alongside other tools.
Outdoor play can also offer valuable learning experiences. For example, the act of shaping and stretching materials like mud or sand can help children develop the way their senses and movement interact, known as sensorimotor (感觉运动) development, according to the scientists at the University of Palermo, Italy. This allows the child to gradually understand his or her bodily signals.
Given the known psychological benefits, many day-care centers and schools are already encouraging greater contact with nature-with outdoor lessons, regular nature walks and the construction of mud(淤泥) kitchens that encourage children to play in the dirt.
32. What does the underlined word “refrain” mean in Paragraph One?
A. Resolution. B. Decision. C. Complaint. D. Judgement.
33. Which is irrelevant to the reason for getting close to nature less?
A. Living in the city. B. Getting badly ill.
C. Lost in video games. D. Addicted to social media.
34. What is Paragraph Three mainly about?
A. The stimulation to the tired brain.
B. The medicine for children with ADHD.
C. The mental promotion from city walking.
D. The brain restoration from outdoor activity.
35. What will the author be likely to talk about next?
A. More benefits of outdoor plays.
B. Further study on body signals.
C. Many skills of playing dirt.
D. Detailed information on mud kitchens.

More and more research is showing that the key to lifelong good health is what experts call “lifestyle medicine” — making simple changes in diet, exercise, and stress management. To help you turn that knowledge into results, we’ve put together this manageable list of health and wellness tips to keep healthy.
Give yourself a break

____39____
You can do all the right things—but if you have personal relationships with people who have unhealthy habits, it is often a hard battle. ____40____. My father was a professor at Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas, Texas. A student named Emma in his class suffered from a serious back disease. Her family couldn’t afford the operation. Her mother rented a boarding house in Galveston, a seaside town near Houston, Texas. She was cleaning out the roof space one day when she came across an old book. On its top page were the words “By O. Henry”. So she sent it to her daughter who showed it to my father. My father knew that O. Henry had once lived in Houston. So it was possible that O. Henry had been to the beach and stayed in the Galveston boarding house. Maybe he had written the book and left the book there by accident. So my father visited an O. Henry expert at Columbia University. Then my father set out for Des Moines to sell the book. At last, an editor bought it. My father took the money to Emma. It was just enough for her to have the operation that she indeed needed.

根据最后一段“What can children do on the trip? Actually, there are plenty of off-screen activities.”(孩子们在旅行中可以做什么?

be used to do 意为“被用于做某事”;而be used to doing意为“习惯于做某事”。
故删去in。
故将which改为that。
故将is改为are。
修饰介词短语for those living in the city应用副词。
