I bought the most delightful tangerine (柑橘) yesterday. It was plump and firm. At this wintry and white time of year, I wanted color and juice. When I bit into that perfect tangerine, I tasted happiness and an explosion of memory.
Nearly 30 years ago, my family spent several months in India. We were tired during one of our trips and were covered in a fine layer of dust. We quite enjoyed our cheap train meals, but everything looked brown. Even the landscape looked dry.
Suddenly the train pulled into a rare area of green, and colorfully dressed women carrying oranges came aboard. These oranges were covered in a layer of cool moisture (潮湿) and they breathed fresh air into our train car. Immediately, the color and sweetness and the female presence brought life and hope. We bought a dozen and spent the rest of our trip eating the most delicious oranges we had ever tasted.
They reminded me of another orange experience I had had when I was an art student in Toronto. I had caught a glimpse of the grocers (杂货店) and some cooking supply shops in Chinatown, an area I was living close to. And there were navel oranges (脐橙) ... huge, fresh and firm oranges whose peels almost fell off before your eyes. I have never seen oranges like them later again. Maybe these oranges truly no longer exist. In the fish-and-chip shop, they had an old orange juice machine that put orange juice into glass bottles. It was very refreshing when drunk with your order.
    Sigh.
So much has changed since then. I am no longer a young art student. There is a pandemic. Hustle and bustle (熙熙攘攘) don’t exist for the moment. But oranges and fish and chips still do. Tiny pleasures are so good.
20.Why did the author mention one of her trips in India?
A.To tell why oranges in India are tasty.

C.To share one of her good memories of oranges.
D.To recall the happy days spent with her family.
21.How did the fish-and-chip shop in a Chinatown in Toronto impress the author?
A.They sold different kinds of fruits.
B.They added orange juice to their dishes.
    C.They provided freshly-made orange juice.
D.They were equipped with automatic orange peelers.
22.What message does the author want to tell us in this article?
A.Fruit is good for our health.
B.The pandemic has ruined our lives.
C.We have to adapt to changes in life.
D.We should cherish the small joys in life.

Everyone can try his best to achieve something. We don't need to be the best, but to challenge the limits of what we are capable of. I gained this belief from my third grade teacher, the most special, honored, trustworthy, and beloved person in my life.
Mr. Myrus was always perfectly dressed and spoke with the belief that talking to an eight-year-old child didn't mean he had to sacrifice proper statements or grammar. And he was demanding,__but he wasn't unreasonable or cruel. He simply felt that no matter what your best was, you should achieve it.
Luckily enough, I met him again as my eighth grade math teacher. I was not, nor ever will be, gifted in math. I remember my struggles in class. “I don't know the answer,” I would say. “I can't do it!” “Perhaps you don't know the answer,” he would say quietly. “Do you think we might figure it out together? How do you know what you can do if you don't have a try?”
Mr. Myrus lived around the corner, and I would often stop by to talk while he worked in his garden. I knew there was someone who let me know that if I had really tried, that was enough. “Don't be so hard on yourself,”he'd say.“Stop blaming yourself. Did you try your best? Well, then you're not a failure,” he often told me these words.
Mr. Myrus died in 1978. I had never thought about his death. He was too young. I felt sorry. But when I think about him now, I don't feel so sorry. He taught me to be kind, not only to others, but to myself. He taught me my own value. He taught me about honor, about truth, and about doing my best and he also taught me that all feelings and beliefs have dignity and deserve respect. And of all the things I know, I believe that we can't all be “the best”, but we can, each of us, be our best. And I know that's true because Mr. Myrus told me that.
23.What does the underlined word “demanding” in Paragraph 2 most probably mean?
    A.Strict. B.Indifferent.
    C.Critical. D.Careful.
24.Why did the author think he was lucky in Paragraph 3?
A.Mr. Myrus became his teacher again.
B.Mr. Myrus was his teacher for eight years.
C.He became interested in math because of Mr. Myrus.
D.He developed a good relationship with Mr. Myrus.
25.What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A.The author may have become a teacher.
B.The author liked to recall his childhood.
C.The author believed he would be the best of all.
D.The author ended up being a man of self-confidence.
26.What can we learn about Mr. Myrus according to the passage?
A.He is usually indifferent to the students.
B.He is responsible for his students and his teaching.
C.He is a person who isn't particular about what he wears.
D.He is sometimes cruel and unreasonable to his students.

To grow sugary dates in the sand, Siwa’s farmers must first make the desert suitable for farming. An oasis (绿洲) in Egypt, Siwa has been home to humans for thousands of years. Since ancient times, the oasis has hosted farms producing some of the most valuable dates in Egypt, and sugary dates have appeared on Egyptians, tables.
The desert environment in Siwa is not quite fit for plants to grow. For example, the water there contains much salt. However, with local people’s efforts, the Siwa oasis contains complex agricultural fields, where date trees, crops and other plants grow in harmony. That impressed me a lot during my visit to the oasis. To make a new piece of field, farmers first remove the top soil and replace it with a mixture of sand and waste matter from animals. The first plants are medicinal plants. Then, farmers plant date trees and olive trees. These farming skills are passed down from generation to generation.
To grow date trees is demanding. And it takes 10 years for a new date tree to mature, but once it does, the tree produces generous fruit: around 110 pounds of dates per year. Each farmer picks dates with the skilled hands. They climb the trees using nothing more than a belt. In total, Siwa grows more than 25,000 tons of dates from 280,000 trees per year.
The dates can be eaten fresh, or made dry. Every part of the date tree is significant in Siwa, from leaves made into beds and boxes to wood used to build houses. And then, of course, there’s the fruit itself. The dates can be cooked with goat meat or mixed with eggs for breakfast. They can also be mixed with flour, water, and olive oil, and boiled slowly to make a local dessert.
Local farmers once developed many unique date varieties, which their camels carried to Cairo. But later many of those varieties perished. And today only several major varieties remain and some have become quite rare and been at risk. The 1985 construction of a road in the oasis made the survival of local agricultural tradition even tougher.
27.What can we learn about sugary dates from Paragraph 1?
A.They can adapt to tough environment.
B.They have existed for a long time.
C.They’re introduced to Egypt from abroad.
D.They’re the most valuable fruit in Egypt.
28.What impressed the author a lot during his visit to Siwa?
A.The great variety of plants grown there,
B.The hard but happy life of local people.
C.The great complexity of the local agriculture.
D.The local farmers’ wisdom and contribution to farming.
29.What do the figures mentioned in Paragraph 3 show?
A.It’s worthwhile to make an effort to grow date trees.
B.It’s easy for farmers to pick dates from the trees.
C.It costs a lot to grow date trees in the basis.
D.It’s necessary to develop agriculture in Siwa.
    30.What’s Paragraph 4 mainly about?
    A.People’s preference for dates.
    B.The introduction to local food,
C.The usage of date trees’ different parts.
D.The locals’ high expectations of date trees.
31.What does the underlined word “perished” in the last paragraph probably mean?
    A.Died out. B.Spread out.
    C.Got created. D.Became known.

A taxi pulled up swiftly and silently. Derek dropped their suitcases into the boot and joined Shirley in the back seat. “Palm Trees Hotel, please,” Derek said excitedly. “Certainly, sir,” replied the driver, as he turned around with a flashing white smile. Derek and Shirley gave each other a puzzled look as the taxi eased smoothly into the traffic. “Excuse me, er, your face seems very familiar—in fact, you remind us of that famous film star, Rocky Overton... but of course, you can’t be.”
Derek and Shirley sat in silent disbelief as the driver explained that he was not a real person, but a robot made to look like a famous actor. “Rocky” explained that the taxi company had purchased the latest model of robot drivers since they were programmed to be safer and more reliable than human drivers. “So, here I am,” “Rocky” continued, “your first robot taxi driver!”
Derek and Shirley held each other’s hands more tightly. “Relax,” “Rocky” reassured them, “there is nothing for you to worry about. I can assure you that my driving skills are excellent. I’m equipped with perfect vision and superior reactions, and I know every street in the city. I am instantly updated with the latest traffic information so that I can avoid traffic jams and get you to your destination in the quickest and least stressful manner. Please sit back, relax and enjoy the journey.”
Derek and Shirley, feeling a little better, leaned back in their seats and closed their eyes. “And another thing,” “Rocky” added, “my line of robots represents the ultimate in computer technology.
根据第一段的“When I bit into that perfect tangerine, I tasted happiness and an explosion of memory. (当我咬一口那个完美的橘子时,我尝到了幸福和记忆爆炸的滋味)”和第三段的“Immediately, the color and sweetness and the female presence brought life and hope. We bought a dozen and spent the rest of our trip eating the most delicious oranges we had ever tasted.(立刻,颜色和甜蜜以及女性的存在带来了生命和希望。
根据倒数第三段的“In the fish-and-chip shop, they had an old orange juice machine that put orange juice into glass bottles. It was very refreshing when drunk with your order.
再结合最后一段的“But oranges and fish and chips still do. Tiny pleasures are so good.
    23.A 24.A 25.D 26.B

Luckily enough,I met him again as my eighth grade math teacher.
And of all the things I know, I believe that we can't all be “the best”, but we can, each of us, be our best. And I know that's true because Mr. Myrus told me that.
I gained this belief from my third grade teacher, the most special, honored, trustworthy, and beloved person in my life.
    27.B 28.D 29.A 30.C 31.A

根据第一段“Since ancient times, the oasis has hosted farms producing some of the most valuable dates in Egypt, and sugary dates have appeared on Egyptians, tables.(自古以来,这个绿洲就有农场生产埃及一些最有价值的椰枣,甜椰枣也出现在埃及人的餐桌上)”可知,甜枣已经存在很长时间了。故选B项。
根据第二段“However, with local people’s efforts, the Siwa oasis contains complex agricultural fields, where date trees, crops and other plants grow in harmony. That impressed me a lot during my visit to the oasis.
根据第三段“And it takes 10 years for a new date tree to mature, but once it does, the tree produces generous fruit: around 110 pounds of dates per year. Each farmer picks dates with the skilled hands. They climb the trees using nothing more than a belt. In total, Siwa grows more than 25,000 tons of dates from 280,000 trees per year.(一棵新的枣树需要10年的时间成熟,但一旦成熟,树就会结出丰硕的果实:每年大约110磅的枣子。 故选A项。
根据第四段“The dates can be eaten fresh, or made dry. Every part of the date tree is significant in Siwa, from leaves made into beds and boxes to wood used to build houses. And then, of course, there’s the fruit itself.(枣子可以新鲜吃,也可以弄干吃。
根据划线词后面的“And today only several major varieties remain and some have become quite rare and been at risk.(在今天,仅剩几种主要的品种被保留了下来,一些已经很稀缺了,甚至处于危险中)”可推知,划线词所在句意为“但后来这些品种中的许多都灭绝了。” 故选A项。
    32.D 33.C 34.F 35.E 36.G

32.根据空前“Perhaps the first formal and well-known festival to Rock was the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967, which brought that band to the attention of American audiences.(也许最早的著名摇滚音乐节就是1976年的Monterey流行音乐节。)”和空后“It started in 1968 as an event with about 10,000 people.(它始于1968年,有大约1000人参加。)”
33.根据空前“The Summerfest Festival was established in 1968.(Summerfest在1968年成立)”和空后“Interestingly, this festival made cities realize festivals could bring many benefits.(有趣的是,这个节日让城市意识到音乐节可以带来很多好处。)” 符合,且C项中的it指代空前的The Summerfest Festival,故选C项。
34.根据空后“Abled as “three days of love and peace”, Woodstock featured many well-known bands and artists, making Rock music festivals known to many Americans and Europeans.(以“三天爱和宁静”为标签的Woodstock音乐节,以著名的乐队和艺术家为特色,让很多美国人和欧洲人了解了流行音乐节。)”
35.根据空后“Many genres(类型)now have their own music festivals, ranging from Classical music to Heavy Metal. Countries in every habitable continent have music festivals.(很多音乐风格都有他们自己的音乐节,从古典音乐到重金属音乐不等。)”
36.根据空前“Some focus on traditional, folk music.(一些专注于传统、民间音乐。)”

故填who。
结合句意可知,interesting history和culture of the United Kingdom并列作learn about的宾语,应用and连接。故填and。
故填an。
be surprised to do sth.“惊讶地做某事”,是固定短语。故填to find。
    47.Dear Tom,
I’m sorry to hear your feet got hurt. Are you any better now? I’m deeply concerned about you.
We won’t have any lessons this weekend, so I plan to go to the hospital to visit you this Sunday morning. When I announced this plan in class most of our classmates said they would like to go along with me, including your deskmate Tim who you looked after when he was ill. When we visit you, we’ll take the notes we have taken in class during your absence. What books would you like us to take to you? Any other special needs? Please tell me in advance.
Looking forward to seeing you and your recovery.
    Yours,
    Li Hua
第三步:确定关键词汇和短语: got hurt,be concerned about, plan to do sth , visit sb,  go along with, look after ,take the notes ,special needs, in advance。
When I announced this plan in class most of our classmates said they would like to go along with me, including your deskmate Tim who you looked after when he was ill. We won’t have any lessons this weekend, so I plan to go to the hospital to visit you this Sunday morning。
When I announced this plan in class most of our classmates said they would like to go along with me, including your deskmate Tim who you looked after when he was ill. We won’t have any lessons this weekend, so I plan to go to the hospital to visit you this Sunday morning。
    48.One possible version:
Derek and Shirley looked at each other with wild panic in their eyes. The taxi was moving faster and faster, and “Rocky” seemed to be malfunctioning. “Slow down!” Derek shouted, but “Rocky” did not respond. The robot drove even faster than before and narrowly missed a car. Terrified, Derek grabbed his phone. With trembling fingers, he called the taxi company. “Hello?” Derek shouted into the phone, “Our robot driver is having a breakdown and he’s completely out of control. We need help quickly!”
“Don’t worry, sir,” came the calm reply on the phone, “And your taxi is also a driverless car.” The reply continued , “We have the authority to disable the robot driver. Let me switch your taxi to the driverless mode and get you to your destination safely.” The taxi immediately slowed down and continued as if nothing had happened, although its driver could be heard mumbling to himself, “... go wrong ... go wrong ...” . When they finally arrived at their hotel, Derek and Shirley quickly got out of the taxi, relieved and grateful to be alive. As they watched the taxi move away, they agreed that for the rest of the holiday, they would walk everywhere!

    ①出故障:malfunction/fail to work properly
    ②大叫:shout/yell
    ③转换:switch/change/adjust
    ①放心的:relieved/reassured
    ②感激的:grateful/appreciative
【点睛】[高分句型1]The taxi immediately slowed down and continued as if nothing had happened, although its driver could be heard mumbling to himself, “... go wrong ... go wrong ...” .

[高分句型2]When they finally arrived at their hotel, Derek and Shirley quickly got out of the taxi, relieved and grateful to be alive.(由when引导的时间状语从句)
