For one overseas student who has been in China for over a decade, learning the moves and culture associated with Chinese martial arts(武术) has been his most valuable experience.
So uley mane Hima Oumarou, a Nigerien student at Hebei University in Baoding, Hebei province, first came to the university in 2012 as an undergraduate, not only for an education, but also to achieve his dream of learning the Chinese martial art of kung fu. He became a fan of kung fu after watching movies starring famous martial artists such as Jackie Chan and Jet Li.
During his studies in Baoding, Oumarou joined the university's martial arts association and studied under Duan Shuxing, one of the association's instructors. Following Duan's instructions, Oumarou began to practice basic moves in 2015, including Eight Extremities Fist, or bajiquan, as well as the associated art of tai chi.
"Learning martial arts has not been easy because I was not young when I started," the 36-yea--old said, adding that he was forced to overcome difficulties and make more of an effort to learn more advanced moves.
As far as his instructor is concerned, Oumarou is hardworking and energetic. "He always trains hard and has made great progress in the past seven years," Duan said.
So far, Oumarou has mastered multiple boxing techniques and knows how to use many traditional Chinese weapons.
Apart from the skills he's learned, martial arts have brought him more. He has made many
Chinese friends through learning kung fu and has been to many places around China to participate in competitions.
Oumarou is now a doctoral student and is expected to graduate this year. In the future, he plans to open a kung fu center in Niger after he graduates, and to become an instructor and teach youngsters martial arts. He thinks that will also help him better understand the spirit of martial arts, and also become a cultural communicator between China and Niger.
24. What can we learn about Oumarou from paragraph 1 and paragraph 2?
A. He went abroad to realize his dream over ten years ago.
B. He came to China only to learn Chinese martial arts.
C. He had a terrible experience travelling around China.
D. He had a passion for kung fu after becoming an actor.
25. Why is learning martial arts challenging to Oumarou?
A. He didn't set out to practice martial arts at an early age.
B. He took a negative attitude toward learning martial arts.
C. He encountered an extremely impatient instructor.
D. He had to deal with too much schoolwork every day.
26. What will Oumarou probably do after graduation?
A. He will compete in more competitions in China.
B. He will become an artist starring in action movies.
C. He will travel in China together with his friends.
D. He will instruct children in martial arts in Niger.
27. Which words can best describe Oumarou?
A. energetic and humorous B. determined and hardworking
C. generous and talented D. selfless and positive
C
It is generally acknowledged that the older we get the more slowly we react. However, the new findings suggest that mental speed—the speed at which we can deal with issues requiring rapid decision-making—does not change substantially over decades.
Under the leadership of Dr. Mischa von Krause and Dr. Stefan Radev, psychologists at Heidelberg University evaluated data from a large-scale online experiment with over a million participants. They came to the conclusion that the speed of cognitive information processing remains largely stable between the ages of 20 and 60, and only deteriorates at higher ages.
In the online experiment, subjects had to press a button to sort pictures of people into the categories "white" or "black" and words into the categories "good" or "bad". According to Dr. Mischa von Krause, the content focus was of minor importance. Instead, the researchers used the large number of data as an example of a response-time task to measure the duration of cognitive decisions.
When evaluating the data, Dr. Mischa von Krause and his colleagues noted that, on average, the response time of the test subjects rose with increasing age. However, with the aid of a mathematical model, they were able to show that this phenomenon was not due to changes in mental speed. They think that older test subjects are slower mainly because they reply more cautiously and concentrate more on avoiding mistakes. At the same time, motor function speed slows down during the course of adult life: older participants in the experiment needed longer to press the appropriate key after they had found the right answer.
Another finding of the study was that average information processing speed only progressively declined with participants over the age of 60. "It looks as though, in the course of our life, we don't need to fear any substantial losses of mental speed—particularly not in the course of a typical working life," says Dr. Mischa von Krause.
28. What is the common assumption about the adults' mental speed?
A. It declines with age. B. It is faster at the old age.
C. It is not affected by the age. D. It is constantly changing with age.
29. What does the underlined word "deteriorates" in Paragraph 2 mean?
A. Stays stable. B. Becomes worse.
C. Changes suddenly. D. Increases rapidly.
30. What does Dr. Mischa von Krause think causes the older subjects' response time to rise?
A. Their emotional stability. B. The decline of mental speed.
C. Their mature and cautious nature. D. The lack of exercise for the older.
31. What is the purpose of the text?
A. To describe an online experiment.
B. To appeal to people to respect the elderly.
C. To tell people how to improve mental speed.
D. To reveal the conclusion of an online experiment.
D
Since 2006, when Corning, an American glassmaker, developed Gorilla Glass to give Apple's first iPhone a scratch-resistance(防划) screen, many other types of toughened glass have also appeared for use in handsets. But as well-made as they are, people keep cracking and breaking them. Jingwei Hou, at the University of Queensland in Australia, thinks he has found a way to prevent that.
Dr. Hou and his colleagues are among a number of researchers working on a group of materials called perovskites (钙钛矿). The original perovskite, calcium titanium oxide (CaTiO3), is a mineral discovered in the Ural Mountains in 1839 and named after Count Lev Perovski, a Russian mineralogist.
Since then, the name has come to be used for a number of materials that share a similar crystal (晶体) structure.
Much of the interest in perovskites comes because those which combine metal atoms with chlorine, bromine or iodine—members of a group of elements called halogens(卤素)—are semiconductors, which are a solid substance that allows some electricity to pass through it. This makes them potentially useful in a variety of electronics. In particular, one promising feature of metal halides(卤化物) is that they can be used to make new types of solar cells which are much better at turning sunlight into electricity than the silicon-based(硅基) cells currently employed. Oxford PV, a British company, is bringing some of the first perovskite solar cells to market.
Dr. Hou and his colleagues have found another important use of the materials. Their study, which was published recently in Science, showed that perovskite screens were efficient light emitters (发光体) able to produce sharp, bright images. Meanwhile, the screens were extremely tough and highly flexible. "Perovskite screens might be unbreakable," believes Dr. Hou. "They can be used not just for phones, but also for products ranging from televisions and computers to lighting." But he does believe it could take five to ten years of development before this will happen. In the meantime, people should take a bit more care with the screens on their devices.
32. What problem are the researchers trying to solve?
A. How to make phone screens tough enough.
B. How to further reduce Gorilla Glass’s weight.
C. How to better prevent scratches on screens.
D. How to lower the cost of toughened glass.
33. What can we learn about perovskites?
A. They were discovered over 200 years ago.
B. They are a class of materials with a similar structure.
C. They are widely available in the Ural Mountains.
D. They were named by an Australian scientist.
34. Which of the following is a use of metal halides?
A. Replacing semiconductors. B. Making solid substances flexible.
C. Producing high-efficiency solar cells. D. Extending the life of silicon-based cells.
35. What does Dr. Hou think of perovskite screens?
A. They break easily in cold weather.
B. They will soon come onto the market.
C. They are highly sensitive to bright sunlight.
D. They may be used in various electronic devices.
There’s a lot to cope with when you go off to university. 36 For most students, a completely new environment is waiting to be explored.
We recently drove our daughter Evie 150 miles to start life as a fresher. It was a struggle to find the car park, let alone explore the huge campus. Although we knew she had flatmates and phone apps to get her to ft in, the challenge ahead was clear- -to find her way in an unfamiliar world. 37
In a recent study, volunteers walked around a virtual forest environment. Then some of them took the same walk again, while others explored a different forest. 38 According to the researchers, that was because exploring the new environment stimulated their dopamine (多巴胺) system—setting up their brains for memorizing things. Thus, they scored higher.
So leaving home to study makes perfect sense. 39 But we may all be able to gain some of the benefits, even if it's just by stimulating our senses and challenging our thinking skills. Here are three things to try:
◆ Go somewhere new to tackle an upcoming learning task—like memorizing a speech in the library, or revising for an exam in a park—and take an unfamiliar route to get there.
◆ 40 To warm yourself up for learning, picture a city you know well, but imagine you’re tapped in a part of it that you've never visited. Then try to visualize exactly how you’ll get out.
◆ Play video games that get you moving through new landscapes. Then see whether it improves your success with other learning tasks, like practising a dance or mastering phrases for a foreign trip.
A. Get lost in your imagination.
B. Prepare yourself for a city tour.
C. But exploring places as such is beneficial to memory.
D. People prove to be more adaptable after new experience.
E. The latter group performed better in memory tests straight after.
F. There are new friends to meet and new responsibilities to accept.
G. Young minds seem to gain most from being in strange surroundings.

There I was stuck AGAIN. This was the same feeling that overwhelms me every year. But this year it was different, because if I failed this exam I would not graduate. I sat there, panic stricken, unable to move. Pressure crushed in on me. What if I could not go to high school? Would Dad and Mum kick me out of their house?
I took two deep breaths and looked up. I could see the teacher pacing up and down. The classroom was dead silent except for the clock. Tick Tock. Tick Tock. I checked the clock for the third time. Ten minutes left! I clenched (握紧) and unclenched my fist in an attempt to calm myself. Think! I told myself. I knew I could do this. My hand couldn’t help trembling. Then I scribbled (胡乱写下) the first few words that hit me.
“It isn’t my fault...”
I stared blankly at those words. At the comer of my eye, I could see my teacher walking towards me. She was checking on our progress! Dread built up within me. Then, I glanced at the four words again. Without any warning, my hand moved to write.
Hair on my arms stood as the teacher leaned in and started to read my work. I peered over to see my teacher’s expression, praying that my work had not brought in disappointment. To my astonishment, she displayed a clear satisfaction! That was good, wasn’t it? I hurriedly looked down at my essay.
I skimmed it through. I felt proud. Now, there’s something I was still worried about. I checked the clock. Two minutes left! I was still writing!
I bit my lip, took a deep breath, and concentrated on writing. I heard the teacher leave.
“There’s one minute left. Please check your work.” the teacher reminded us.

M: The Wildlife Park here in the city.

W: Well, this is my first time producing as well as acting. We also have an all-female cast, so there are no men coming to the rescue.
M: Because in the world of the movie, men no longer exist.
W: That's right. Although it has a lot of action, it's primarily a science-fiction film. It is about what would happen if there were only women left in the world.
M: So not your usual romantic comedies.
W: No, I've done a lot of those, and people associate me with those. So it felt good to break away and try something new.
M: From the short scenes from the film, it looks as though there is a lot of action and fights. How long did it take to make?
W: I read the script about three years ago, and then we gradually gathered together a cast and crew. But once we started filming, it only took 6 months. The special effects took double that.
M: So when can we expect to see it in cinemas?
W: It's coming out on 14th December in America, and then a week later around the world.
M: Well, as I'm from the UK, I guess I'll have to wait patiently for 7 days.

We hope that by 2025, all of our products, including sportswear, bags and footwear, will have zero impact upon the environment. This is our most ambitious project to date. Nike's global strategy is associated with one goal—to save our planet. We are doing this in two ways. First, our manufacturing will only use recycled material while also using 50% less water than before. Second, we will be creating a supply chain that operates with zero impact on the environment. We know that Nike is loved and respected around the world as a quality brand, and now we want it to be a force for good.

56.was included 57.earliest 58.popularity 59.on 60.performed
61.people's 62.holding 63.which 64.have been made 65.and
解析:
故填was included。
New Year's Eve是“除夕”,是在具体的某一天前用介词on。故填on。
分析句子可知, "_____(perform) during the last and first month of the lunar year in many local festive activities"作主语补足语,perform是非谓语动词,与其逻辑主语This type of drum dance之间是被动关系,用过去分词表被动。故填performed。
故填people's。
在when, while, if, as if, though(或although), as, until, once, whether, unless, where等连词连接的状语从句中,常省略跟主句相同的主语和be动词。结合句意,分析子可知,“while _____(hold) the drum in their left hands and a mallet in their right hands.”是时间状语从句,原句为“while they are holding the drum in their left hands and a mallet in their right hands.”,符合状语从句省略条件,省略they are后,应保留现在分词holding。故填holding。
故填which。
故填have been made。
结合句意分析句子,“is being taken up...”和“is presenting...” 故填and。

One possible version:
“One minute left?” I exclaimed. Everybody looked at me weirdly. I looked down, feeling ashamed. But I had to finish the paper. I tried to ignore everything and continue writing. One more word, I said to myself, come on. Just like this, I forced myself to concentrate and willed my hand to scribble whatever that popped up on my mind. “Time’s up! Put your pens down. Please hand in your test paper to me in the front.” the teacher announced. I finished! I put down my pen, breathing a sigh of relief, and then I stood up and limped towards the teacher to hand it in-my legs felt like noodles, thanks to the extreme tension.
A week later, the teacher handed the papers back to us. It was the time for truth! I folded my paper and held it tightly in my hands, shilly-shallying about whether to check the result in front of my classmates. Finally I decided I should face my fate bravely and unfolded it. It was an “A”! I could not believe my eyes. How could it be? It was the first time in my life that I had got an “A”. I turned to look at my teacher. Our eyes met. She nodded and gave me a big smile! At that point, I made a firm resolution: I’d be more hard-working and more confident, so that I wouldn’t be stuck and panic like this again in high school.
