When I stepped out the plane from Miami into Charlotte, North Carolina, airport for a connecting flight home, I immediately knew something was wrong. Lots of desperate people crowded the terminal. I quickly learned that flights headed to the Northeast were called off because of a storm. The earliest they could get us out of Charlotte was Tuesday. It was Friday. A gate agent stood on the counter and shouted, “Don’t ask us for help! We cannot help you!”

I joined a crowd that ran from terminal to terminal in search of a flight out. Eventually, I found six strangers willing to rent a van with me. We drove through the night to Washington, where I took a train the rest of the way to Providence.

The real problem, of course, is that incidents like this happen every day, to everyone who flies, more and more often. It really gets to me, though, because for eight years I was on the other side, as a flight attendant for Trans-World Airlines(TWA).

I know the days are gone when attendants could be written up if we did not put the lines napkins with the TWA logo in the lower right-hand corner of the first-class diners’ trays. As are the days when there were three dinner options on flights from Boston to Los Angeles in economy class. When, once, stuck on a tarmac (机场停机坪) in Newark for four hours, a planeload of passengers got McDonald’s hamburgers and fries by thoughtfulness of the airline.

I have experienced the decline of service along with the rest of the flying public. But I believe everything will change little by little, because I remember the days when to fly was to soar (翱翔). The airlines, and their employees, took pride in how their passengers were treated. And I think the days are sure to come back one day in the near future.

64.Many people crowded the terminal because ________.

    A. they were ready to board on the planes

        B. something was wrong with the terminal

        C. the flights to the Northeast were canceled

        D. the gate agent wouldn’t help the passengers

    65. The writer got to Providence ________ at last.

        A. by air      B. by van      C. by train     D. by underground

    66.  What can be implied from the passage?

        A. The writer lived in Charlotte, North Carolina.

        B. The writer thought the service was not as good as it used to be.

        C. The writer with other passengers waited to be picked up patiently.

        D. Passengers would feel proud of how they were treated on the plane.

    (D)

AAsk for a helping hand to get you through the tough situation.

BNotice your friends' feelings and find a way to help them.

CDifferent people feel stress in different ways

DAh, it feels so good when the stress is gone.

    E. You need to figure out what the problem is.

    F. And don't forget about your friends.

Kids' health: Four steps for fighting stress

Everybody gets stressed time to time. 67________: Some ways of dealing with stress like screaming or hitting someonedon't solve (解决) much. But other ways, like talking to someone you trust, can lead you to solving your problem or at least feeling better.

Try taking these four steps the next time you are stressed:

    (1) Get support. When you need help, reach out to the people who care about you. Talk to a trusted adult, such as a parent or other relatives. 68_________: They might have had similar problems, such as dealing with a test, or the death of a beloved pet.

    (2) Don't take it out on yourself. Sometimes when kids are stressed and upset they take it out on themselves. Oh, dear, that's good idea. Remember that there are always people to help you. Don't take it out on yourself. 69_________:

    (3) Try to solve the problem. After you're calm and you have support from adults and friends, it's time to get down to business. 70__________: Even if you can't solve it all, you can solve a piece of it.

    (4) Be positive. Most stress is temporary(暂时的).Remember stress does go away, especially when you figure out the problem and start working on solving it.

These steps aren't magic, but they do work. And if you can stay positive as you make your way through a tough time, you'll help yourself feel better even faster. Ah, it feels so good when the stress is gone.

    Summary

Directions: Summarize the main idea of the following passage in no more than 60 words.

    Sales strategies

How can a company improve its sales? One of the keys to more effective selling is for a company to first decide on its "sales strategy." In other words, what is the role of the sales person Is the salesperson’s job narrative, suggestive, or consultative

The "narrative" sales strategy depends on the salesperson moving quickly into a standard sales presentation. His or her pitch highlights the benefits for the customer of a particular product or service. This approach is most effective for customers whose buying motives are basically the same and is also well suited to companies who have a large number of prospects (可能的主顾) on which to call.

The "suggestive" approach is tailored more for the individual customer. The salesperson must be in a position to offer alternative recommendations that meet a particular customer’s needs. One key aspect of the suggestive approach is the need for the salesperson to engage the buyer in some sort of discussion. The salesperson can then use the information gleaned from the customer to suggest an appropriate product or service.

The final strategy demands that a company’s sales staff act as "consultants" for the buyer. In this role, the salesperson must acquire a great deal of information about the customer. They do this through market research, surveys, and face-to-face discussions. Using this information, the salesperson makes a detailed presentation tailored specifically to a customer’s needs.

More and more sales teams are switching from a narrative or suggestive approach to a more consultative strategy. As a result, corporations are looking more at intangibles such as creativity and analytical skills and less at educational background and technical skills.
