Community service means doing volunteer jobs for the public. It teaches valuable lessons about the duties of a citizen(公民). Today, in the United States, important services are provided through thousands of organizations created to meet needs not provided by government at the local, state, and national levels. These activities help to create a sense of great care for the public.
There are close connections between community service programs and civic(公民的) education in schools. At every level of school, students can be involved in community service projects. Besides, children develop knowledge of their community—its leaders, organizations, social groups, and standards of civic behavior.
Community service programs can provide the chances for students to learn social study skills. These include higher-level processes and skills of information collecting, critical thinking and decision making. Community service programs also teach processes and skills for group discussions, leadership and teamwork.
Through community service programs, children can learn how people play roles in a discussion to work out the local problems. Students can volunteer to teach young children in child care centers or help in senior citizen centers.

Walking in the city is very different from walking in the park. A small psychology study suggests urban environments can slow your step and possibly increase your mental load. 26 It can ease your mind and quicken your pace. The findings show that natural settings may potentially (潜在地) reduce cognitive (认知的) tiredness and improve reaction times straight away. 27
The first of the two experiments in the new study focused on people’s way of walking and cognitive load. During this trial, participants were fitted with sensors and a dozen motion control cameras were set up to watch them repeatedly walk down a 15-metre room at their natural speed. The wall opposite them showed an image of either a nature scene or a city scene. 28 On the whole, when walking in city settings, people reported that they felt more uncomfortable and they walked at a slower pace, indicating a higher cognitive load.
29 In the trial, participants were asked to distinguish (区别) between basic visual shapes on the computer while also in the presence of a natural or urban image (the same ones from the first experiment). Measuring reaction times in both natural and urban settings, the team found results to support their idea. In urban environments, participants were slower in distinguishing between simple shapes. 30 Our brains take longer to process. However, more research is needed to prove that idea.
A.A walk through nature does the opposite, though.
B.They said they couldn’t concentrate properly after walking.

    42.句意:后来,在四处旅行时,沈括惊奇地发现了一块和他梦中的小山一模一样的土地。be surprised to do sth“惊讶地去做某事”,用于要发生的事,故填to find。
43.句意:他非常喜欢那个地方,他在那里度过了他的余生。根据“He loved the place very much, … he stayed there for the rest of his life.”
France“法国”名词,根据“including English, …, German and Japanese”可知,此处表达“法语”应用French,故填French。
    46.例文:
    Dear Max,
Great changes have taken place to a river called “The Lychee River” which lies in my hometown. I’m glad to tell you something about it.
The Lychee River used to be so dirty and smelly because as much as 90 percent of waste was discharged without treatment by the factories. The pollution of the factories was serious. Therefore, the government and local people have already made efforts to make the river clean. Now, the river is cleaner than before, and the air is fresh. There is no pollution. It is a wonderful place to enjoy and relax.
I am glad to the great changes in my hometown. I hope my hometown will be more and more beautiful in the future and people will live a better life.
    Yours,
    Li Hua
